early-morning reverie (p, solo, etc etc etc)

The morning was dark, weary, and cold. She’d awoken early- it was the only time she could find enough quiet time to focus on her own interests rather than a slough of missions. The training ground loomed tall above, but she didn’t make her way to the normal ground. Instead, she found herself reclining in the front lounge. Lachesis just… Wanted to exist, for a bit. No guts and gore, no back breaking labor- just a warm cup of tea on a pleasant morning. The appropriate beverage was grasped gently with both hands, a strong wooden smell wafting into the air. Lachesis had an odd hobby in fermenting tea leaves. The current brew was fermented a bit longer than normal, and as such the normal fruitier scent had been accompanied by stronger, eartheir tones.

It had been brewed Gong Fu style, and kept warm with a light circulation of chakra. Although throwing in tea bags and letting it all steep all at once was more efficient, the jounin liked the former style better. Letting the leaves steep themselves gradually, different notes of flavor became evident that wouldn’t ordinarily be shown. The leaves themselves were difficult to come by in Konoha, only being grown in a specific province of Tea Country, but- with weapons maintenance out of the way, a little indulgence wasn’t so bad, was it?

She’d definitely feel guilty for it later- her self esteem was never the highest. But for now- with a cup of warm tea, the products of her labor were evident. Life was short, but also terribly and insufferably long. Having a cause to die for was one’s own business- but wasn’t it just as important to have something to live for? She still struggled to find that reason, sometimes. But the small things- rare as they were- made it worth it.

It was a delicate process, to be sure. But if it made her happy, was it really a waste of time? There were multiple times in which hot water must be added at specific moments, times in which to watch the leaves… Stronger teas could last upwards of ten different infusions. Before she knew it, the cup was empty. She stirred it half heartedly, watching the last drops and a couple bits of leaves she didn’t manage to scrape out, and disposed of it in the proper bin.

She stretched. Inhale, pause, exhale. She had a lot of work to do, and the day was still young. Onwards and upwards, she supposed…
