Humming a tune - Page 4 Empty Re: Humming a tune

Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:50 pm
The buoyant dipped a little, and Kaito's heart became agitated with excitement; was this his time? He gripped the cane and lifted it, then tentatively reeled the line in, careful to not scare potential fish that had not bitten yet. However, as he tried to reel, the lime pulled back into the lake: a bite!

He pushed the cane against his leg, and gripped it as well as he could; he started reeling it in carefully, and it was surprisingly easy, the fish offering little resistance to his pull, thus informing Kaito that it would be a small fish. He didn't let that hamper his excitement though, as it was still a catch. So long as he was able to cook the pesky bugger, he would be fine with it.

As Kaito reeled it off the lake, the golden brown scaling of the fish glimmered in the sunlight, water dripping down and splashing as the fish thrashed. The genin grabbed the cold fish, feeling the slipperiness of it. "Nice", he quipped. It had a nice weight to it, it would make a decent meal.

As he swung the hook off of the fish's mouth and set it down on the bucket, he couldn't wash off the grin on his face. He reached down to the worms bucket and drew a new worm, impaling it into the hook and swinging it back into the lake before drinking another sip of beer. "Dinner's caught, now for that prize catch."

Humming a tune - Page 4 Empty Re: Humming a tune

“Just call me Taki Maki!  Executive Chef!”  Maku would say striking a pose while sitting, an impressive feat to be sure, but one he was more than capable of. “Don’t worry about my pretty lady my guy, she’s harmless less you harm me.”  He’d say noticing the new guys apprehension.  Winking he’d laugh at his own joke, it wasn’t even a joke but he laughed anyway.

Wiggling his road he’d continue in his life story that wasn’t really his life story.  In truth telling a lie was as easy as truth telling so it all ended up being the same.  Call it the side effects of being a ninja and a genjutsu user.  “Takigakure was my home, till it fell........now I just Travel about.  Been a little bit of everywhere.  Chef by trade.  Got a restaurant in the land of Fangs, and hoping to strike a deal at the country club.  Figure winning this thing would only help make a bigger impression.”  He’d say watching the water eagerly.

Ok, well those all were pretty much true.  Just leaving out the missing ninja S rank thing.  Which, he really had to think of a way to remove such a title.  It’s not like he was a murderer anymore, it was a shame the Shinobi world had such a long memory for small things like village destructions.  Hadn’t he let most people go after all........or maybe he hadn’t.  He couldn’t remember anymore, it was all in the past anyway.

If the other lad wanted to talk anymore about his own past or self Maku would allow it before cutting in.  He’d down another bottle and trade it out with a new one.  He was starting to feel a little tipsy,  but in a good way.  Fishing, friends, and brews......yes this was the life, more so than any deadly combat mission that didn’t even pay well.  “Actually, why don’t you lads join me tonight...”. He’d say diving into his pockets.  He pulled five tickets out that offered one a seat at the executive table.  One of course was for himself.  “Find yourselves a pretty girl and bring them too.” He’d laugh and hand each of the boys two tickets before grabbing his pole and giving it a small tug.  Yes he was in a good mood.

“Fishing village huh?”  Maku would turn to the new guy having already got the kids story of temples and deserts.  “I’ve been to Kumo, place stinks these days.  Where about is that at?  You must have some good fishin tales.  Give me and my friend here a whopper while you catch a whopper!”  Again Maku would laugh, and it was possible with the others keen ninja senses they could tell he was starting to have a bit to much to drink.  Though, Maku hadn’t noticed yet, for better or worse.  “Who’s running that graveyard these days anyway?  Haven’t been back for a bit.  Fellow named Kyson isn’t it?”  When He’d left he’d left Kyson in charge, he wondered if the lad was still keeping the place in tip top shape.

Humming a tune - Page 4 Empty Re: Humming a tune

Apparently the fish wanted to know if Kyson was still the Raikage too, cause at those words a couple things happened. One, a fish bit the hook, two said fish didn’t like it, third Maku wasn’t prepared.

Instinctively he’d grip the pole at the suddenly pull, but he hadn’t been prepared, and he was getting drunk. Pulling him up he went ass over head into the shallow end of the water straight from where he’d been sitting. Bubbles would flurry out around where his head was underwater as he got drug a further couple feet before regaining his balance. Finally planting his feet in waist deep water he’d shake his head and beard sending water everywhere. “Help me boys!” He’d should still trying to pull the pole.

With the hopeful help of his two friends he’d struggle and get the fish up on dry land. Grabbing it he’d hoist it into the massive cooler for the two massive fish to toil about. After which he’d promptly fall into the sand, noting and soaked. His beer bottle spilled into the lake. “Beer me boys, that girl done got the best of me.”

Humming a tune - Page 4 Empty Re: Humming a tune

Kaigure appeared to be not so fond of his birthplace, going as far as referring to the place as a toxic wasteland. Eliwood made a mental note to steer clear of Kumo, at least for the time being. A place with such a reputation most likely held little beauty within its borders.

Eliwood smiled and happily took the two tickets being handed to him, although he had no idea who he would bring with him, and put them in his satchel. "Thank you very much Taki. What a lovely gift, you truly are too kind."

As he spoke another fish bit the line of the chef. It must have been a big one because he called for the help of the two around him. They would struggle for a moment together before the fish was securely on land. Though not as big as his first catch, Taki had pulled in another giant of a fish.

"You must have the devil's luck, the fish cannot seem to stay off your hook." Eliwood laughed while handing over a drink from the cooler.

The monk looked out at the water and thanked the Flame for the beautiful weather and biting fish. He himself tired of struggling with the lake's denizens and wedged his pole in the soil so it would not fall into the water while he wasn't holding it. Instead he felt like hearing some music. Leaning his back against the stump that the chef was sitting on, he decided to play a tune he'd heard in many taverns on his trip. It was a simple song that made Eliwood's heart flutter when he heard it. The upbeat rolling chords emitted a sense of frolicking through a field of wild flowers.

Humming a tune - Page 4 Empty Re: Humming a tune

Tue Oct 01, 2019 11:15 am
The devils luck.......Maku reflected on how true that might be, though it had very little to do with fish. Well, he hasn’t known any devils but he did have acquaintance with a demon. “Beginners luck my friend.” Maku would say smoothly pulling in his hook. Putting it over his shoulder he looked out on the lake, pristine and beautiful. Once again his mind drifted to the places he’d been, the beauty along with the horror. It all flowed together just like these waters.

Talking a drink and finishing off his beer, he’d let it fall back into the cooler, still laden down with food and drink. “All yours boys. Catch a couple more for me. Time to get back and prep for that dinner.” He’d give them a wink and set to packing up his belongings. Hoisting the still jostling cooler with his prize fish he’d make a quick whistle sound causing the skunk to walk by his side. “If you ever make it to the land of fangs look me up, Chortling Chunin, best restaurant that side of Konohagakure!” With that he’d make his way back towards the country club.

It had been a nice outing, an escape from an escape. Yet, that’s all these were, escapes. He remembered being like them, but only vaguely. It seemed so long ago now, and he wasn’t sure where he fit in. Maybe the two boys hadn’t either, but they seemed well more on their way than he.

Making it back to the country club he’d turn his fish in for the official weighing, watching his name take over the first place spot. Smiling at that, he’d grab his second place fish and take it to the kitchen. Working on it, he’d have it made into one of the plates for his own table. Sighing he watched as his sous chefs acclimated with the club chefs. Different places, it still they worked together remarkably well. Soon they wouldn’t even need his guidance, but wasn’t that the point of all teachers to their students. His mind briefly moved to the three genin he’d taught in Yukigakuri, and the corpse of the poor boy whose eyes he once wore. Now shades of blue hiding stains of red.

The remainder of the day moved quickly, he kept to the kitchen, and prepared for his final interview with the head of the club. All passed without to much incident. It wasn’t until later in the night that his heart beat a little quicker.

It had happened fast, and even looking back he couldn’t tell if it was real or just clearing paranoia. Nothing the eyes of several guests, he could see how they watched him. They saw their eyes scouting across his face, watching his movements and mannerisms. To an untrained eye it would have been harmless, though many things he was untrained was no longer part of it.

A familiar thrill, and the urge to confront cane across him, but just that fast it was gone, and so where the eyes. He’d counted three individuals, but how many had he missed before noticing. The thoughts of Ming occurred, and his failed assassination attempt. The same tactic wouldn’t work twice, the man would return if the cut was big enough. Risk was well worth some rewards after all as he well knew. It’d been sometime since he’d checked what his own bounty was worth, or perhaps it had been expunged. Though, that was impossible. How had Ming even known it was him, and how did he find him.....his payor must be connected, connected enough for a country club event even? The question was asked, answers to follow. Perhaps another missing ninja was after the secrets his body held, dojutsu traffickers, glory, revenge, all where reasonable assumptions. Yet, perhaps it was something else. His kind once again drifted to Akihana, not because of her in this instance, but because of the words she had not yet said. There were things unsaid, and he was starting to wonder how deep it all would go.

The event left a bad taste in his mouth that had nothing to do with his caught fish. Leaving early he returned to his room, sitting on the bed he worked on breathing. Searching and looking. Reaching out he picked at stars in the sky.......knowing if he wanted he could be with them in a flash. It made him smile, and he did not indulge, but the comfort for knowing it was possible was more than enough.
