Humming a tune Empty Humming a tune

Eliwood walked barefooted along the bank of the lake. The feel of the soft loamy soil under his feet made him feel even more connected with nature. The breeze here carried all manner of scents. The life in the water mixing smells with the life above water. Beauty like this was rarely found in this blood soaked world.

As he walked he strummed his guitar, playing a simple song of only a couple chords. He hummed along to his rhythmic strumming and took the moment to be thankful for the peace and tranquility this place provided for the kind monk.

He hoped the other patrons of the country club were just as grateful for this escape from the daily toils of life.

Humming a tune Empty Re: Humming a tune

The fishing tournament had made it into full swing, inviting plenty of foreign folks into the land of rivers. Though the turnout from the invited Shinobi villages had been a little lackluster, it had still been a success based on the regular folks who had opted to grace the often forgotten land. As for himself, Maku had spent much of time he early morning prepping for the day to come.

His interview the day prior had gone well, and now it was time to show them what he and his comrades could really do. They’d been given full run of the kitchen, and they’d made as much a good use of it as they possibly could have. Cooking with the fish already caught, and the abundance of easily acquired produce in the lush land had proven to be a fine break from their normal island home.

Once breakfast and lunch had been prepared for, he’d taken to leaving the club for a chance to throw his hat into the tourney as well. Though in reality, a nap would suffice just as well. Making his way to a remote side of the lake, he was pleased to find a spot unbothered by others. Setting up his supplies, and forming a place to sit, he lounged back and prepared for his little break. The bobber had been in the water for only a couple minutes however, before the world went dark, and the call of the birds and wildlife turned into a lullaby.

The gentle strumming of a guitar was the first sound he heard coming back to the land of the living. Having fallen asleep with a line in the water Maku jerked awake, staring wildly around. The pole was still firmly gripped by the stump he was sitting on, the bobber comfortably bouncing in the water. The sun shone, and the lake reflected making it almost to bright to look at. Outwards there were numerous boats and people spending their time and competing in the ongoing contest. Their voices just barely heard as the winds carried them over to the little beach.

Looking around he found the person playing and saw as they walked closer to where he sat. His ninjutsu made stump and rod holder had taken him but a minute, and he had perhaps made it to comfortable. Though there were no signs he’d created it, he did imagine it would look very odd for a stump to have just formed this way.

As the boy made it closer Maku would shout out to him, “where’s that song from?” He’d forgo a greeting for the question. He considered himself a decent musician, and to hear a tune that was unfamiliar didn’t happen all to often. Better to investigate, and maybe pick it up for his own establishment.

As the guitar playing fellow was about to answer Maku’s bobber dropped beneath the crystal water, almost pulling the pole from its holder. Gripping the pole, he’d give it a pull back.

Humming a tune Empty Re: Humming a tune

Completely loosing his balance, he’d fall face forward into the sandy beach, thankfully avoiding anything to hard.  Knuckles white however, he held onto the pole while sitting up and planting his feet.  Standing shakily, he’d move all the way into the water, still trying to reel it in.  Completely forgetting the stranger he’d called to, his eyes pierced the lake, a singular focus now involved.

In all when he told the story later at the bar it had been a tough fight, lasting nearly 20 minutes with the fish on the line.  Though I truth, the stranger only had to wait another minute and a half before Maku had managed to pull the lake dweller forth and get it on land.

In all though, he didn’t have to exaggerate much on the size.  Around 40inches long, and weighing just over 17 pounds he’d managed to accidentally catch a pretty decent prize.  It’s scales reflected all colors of the beating sunlight, and when it flipped its scales seemed to shudder and click with it.  Holding it by the mouth, he made his way back over to a large cooler filled with water, dropping it in and closing the lid.  Letting himself flip on top of it, he’d wipe the sweat from his forehead.

Looking up he’d have a shocked look, completely forgetting another person was there.  “See that?”  He’d day with a proud smile.  Reaching down he’d pick up one of the bottle that he’d placed there and take a drink.  Looking at the newcomer he’d tip the bottle as if to ask if he wanted one.

As for Maku, he thanks to the fish, still had disheveled black hair having let it grow out some, and still the same black beard covering most of his face.  Blue eyes looked at the newcomer, and his clothes matched the fishing gear kit sold at the bait shop.  In truth, there wasn’t a thing on him that made him appear to be a ninja.  In this moment, he could be just anyone.

Humming a tune Empty Re: Humming a tune

It had not taken long for Eliwood to lose himself in his own playing. The tune he played brought him back to a time where he had a place to call home. The monastery he grew up in was from from the land of rivers, but listening to the sounds and feeling the rhythm pour from his hands, made all the distance melt away. With his eyes closed he felt as though he were wandering down the wide wooden halls of the temple.

The feeling quickly evaporated when Eliwood heard a voice call out to him. He shook the daydreams away and looked in the direction of the voice where he saw a young man, though older than him, resting on a stump. He appeared to be lazily fishing in the lake. There was a fishing tournament going on after all so there was nothing strange about this activity. What was strange was the oddly shaped growth of wood on which the stranger and his rod were perched. Eliwood thought nothing more of it than that nature was full of wondrous surprises.

This stranger appeared to pose no threat to the daydreaming musician and Eliwood felt immediately comfortable talking to the man. He was always a trusting person, possibly to a fault.

As he went to answer the stranger's question, their rod seemed to pull. While the now fully awake man wrestled with whatever had tugged his line Eliwood would respond, "I sadly do not know of this tune's origin. It is a song I often heard the other monks playing in the temple grounds." The monks of the Burning Monastery seldom left the temple walls so he figured it must have originated from somewhere in the area. "If I had to guess though I would imagine it would be a tune hailing from Haven Country."

As he spoke he began to fashion some bait to the end of his own fishing rod. After all he couldn't think of a better place to start. And though he felt no desire to gain monetary wealth, he knew he would need some money to replace the simple wooden guitar he carried slung on his back. This tournament provided the monk an entertaining way to possibly achieve this goal. Eliwood's true instrument of choice was the Sitar. Though similar in design, he felt that the hypnotic sounds a sitar produced were unmatched in the stringed instrument world. He settled on his current guitar because he needed to have some way of filling the void of lonely silence. But that was not a train of thought that would bring Eliwood joy and so he pushed those invasive thoughts from his mind. He cared little for winning and losing but there was no harm in having a good time.

"I hope you do not mind if I try my luck here as well," He would say to the stranger, "My name is Eliwood by the way. Pleasure to meet you."

With that said he would cast his line into the water and sit cross legged on the soil.
