Typically, when the mind of a user of Yamanaka hiden techniques leaves their body to perform a technique, their body faints and they are only able to act on one target. This is not very effective in practice. This technique was developed by the Yamanaka clan to enable wielders of their hiden jutsu to be more useful in combat.

The user splits their own mind. This action alone is not detectable by Chakra Sensory techniques, as the cloned minds overlap in the user's body. When one or more branches of the user's consciousness leaves their body to advance towards a target, the clones are detectable in identical manner to the appearance of the particular technique that is used along with them.

What it does:

This technique by itself is useless. The technique can only be used in tandem with other Hiden techniques of the Yamanaka clan that involves the transfer of the user's consciousness out of their body. Mind Clone Switch Technique may be used on the same turn as another technique, or in advance. In order to make the use of their hiden techniques more feasible, the Yamanaka clan developed the Mind Clone Switch Technique which enables its user to split their mind into two or more mind clones, thus allowing the user to cast their hiden techniques on multiple targets and retain a piece of their mind in their body to maintain their own consciousness within their original body while using them.

This technique can be used either with a single other Yamanaka hiden technique or with different techniques. If it is used with a single technique, the user may then pick an additional target for their technique per mind clone that the user has active. The user will not pay additional AP beyond the AP that was paid to make the clone and the AP for the technique in question, but should the technique have an upkeep cost, said cost will be doubled for the duration of the technique if the user attacks multiple targets simultaneously.

This technique can also be used to perform different hiden techniques with different minds. The user may use a different hiden technique per mind clone that is active, and pay the needed AP to perform the specific techniques as per normal and perform the necessary hand seals for the particular techniques in question one after the other, after paying the cost to create the clones.

A maximum of three 'minds' including the original may be sent into one target at a time. This will not add any additional power to the technique.

The number of mind clones that the user can create depends on the level of mastery that the user has over this technique. Without mastery, the user may create a single mind clone, allowing them to retain their consciousness when attacking a single target. At this stage, the user can also attack up to two targets at the same time in which case the user's body will lose consciousness. If this technique is mastered once, the user may create up to two clones. Finally, if this technique is mastered twice, the user may create up to five clones.
