Training in the forest (NK) Empty Training in the forest (NK)

Sat Jan 26, 2013 6:39 am
Itami was headed for the forest. He had the whole day ahead of him and he decided to use the free time to train. Not being in the mood for company, he steered clear of the training area and instead decided to go for a run to warm up.
Reaching the brinks of the forest, he fell into a light jog. Keeping his breathing slow and steady, he continued on, passing the shrubs and soon entering the thicker parts of the forest. The roots sticking out of the ground didn't pose any problems for him as he easily evaded and jumped over them. The day was beautiful. The sun was shining bright and the high trees offered just enough shade to make it enjoyable. Itami closed his eyes for a moment, still running lightly. He had good instincts and didn't need to rely solely on sight. He often did this, challenging himself and trying to beat his previous record of how long he can keep on running without tripping or bumping into something without looking. He felt extremely good, surrounded with trees and being in the company of no one but himself.
Speeding up a little, he opened his eyes. He had a lot of energy and even though he was going to need it throughout the whole day, he couldn't help but to keep speeding up until he was running so fast, eveything else was a blur. He heard nothing but the wind whistling by and the almost silent cracks and shuffles as he stepped on sticks and leaves.
He kept on running and time didn't seem to matter. All that existed was his shallow breathing and his body moving forward. He didn't feel any pain or strain. Everything felt natural and right. He was in his element.

After what seemed like eternity, Itami gradualy started to slow down. He began noticing his surroundings again. The shifting colours began to take shape once more. In a slow run, he jumped up and landed on a sturdy branch, comming to a stop. He breathed in and out. Now that he was still and the adrenalin subsided, he began to feel the slight burning in his chest and in some of his muscles. He sat down, his legs dangling from the branch. 'So far, so good' he thought and smiled, feeling proud of the distance he covered in such a time. If he kept this up, he was sure to improve daily. His speed seemed better than ever.

Training in the forest (NK) Empty Re: Training in the forest (NK)

Sun Jan 27, 2013 10:15 am
After a brief rest, Itami stood up again and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt. He looked up to find a sturdy branch near him. Spotting a good one not far away, he climbed up the trunk of the tree and reached for it. Once he was dangling from it, he started his lift ups. The muscles in his arms pleasantly clenched and released. He could feel the warmth of energy surging through them, making them stronger. Breathing steadily to give them enough oxygen, Itami continued his lift ups, feeling the beginnings of sweat drops form on his forehead. He was starting to miss the pleasant swish of air that accompanied him while he was running. As much as he loved workouts and training, he hated the heat that came with them. That was why he often trained high among the trees instead of on the ground. Deciding not to give up just yet and bear with the heat, Itami continued to lift himself up and down, panting slightly. His shirt stuck to his back because of the sweat but he tried not to mind.
When he was satisfied, he pulled himself up on the branch and jumped up. Staying on each branch for a mere second, he quickly ascended higher and higher, until he was sure the wind was present and strong enough to keep him cool. He pulled a kunai out of the holder and marked four individual branches in front of him and then returned to the spot he chose. Two of the marks he made were hidden by leaves.
Focusing his eyes and crouching softly, he made a plan of how he was going to move. He pulled the other kunai out of the holder so he was now holding both with his right hand. Then, bending his knees even more, he pushed from the ground, jumping quite high and making a sort of a somersault. Everything happened in a split second. He threw both kunai in the direction of the marks he made, choosing a path for each of them, and then landed back on the spot. Moving the ever-messy hair from his eyes, he observed his work.
One of the kunai reached both of his targets - grazing one and hitting the other hidden from sight, as planned. The other was stuck in the middle of the first mark, never having the chance to reach his second. Itami cursed mentally. He wasn't specific enough when throwing the second one, and so it didn't go the exact way he wanted it to. His throw and focus still weren't good enough.
He went to pick up both of the kunai and then jumped back to his spot. Deciding to continue this exercise until he hits all four spots, he crouched down and jumped up again in a salto, his hand shooting forward and releasing the kunai.
Landing with a soft thud, he looked up, noticing the exact same thing happened once more. He closed his eyes in irritation, putting two fingers on his forehead and tapping lightly, as was his habit when trying to calm down his nerves.
Then, wiping the sweat off his forehead, he pulled the kunai out of the trunks and branches and tried again. He put the index finger in the hole of the first kunai as before, but holding the second one with his ring finger instead of the middle one.
He repeated the exercise but somehow managed to lose the second kunai. He threw it too much to the right. It grazed the first branch but then swished on and got lost among the leaves. Itami irritably sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. He moved forward, eyes focused, searching for the gleam of metal. All he saw was the green of leaves and the solid trunks and branches of trees. The wind was rustling among the leaves and a bird landed a few meters away, chirping sweetly. Itami calmed down a bit, smiling at the bird. Then, just a few steps behind the bird, he spotted his kunai. It was stuck in a branch.
He went to retrieve it fast, and then returned to his exercise.

It took him nine more tries to get it right. When he managed to do it at last, he put the kunais away and stretched. He felt pleasantly warm and a little bit tired. Grateful for the wind, he turned his head slightly, letting it mess up his hair even more. He stretched his arms, rolled his shoulders and bent over to stretch his back. Then he found a sturdy wide branch and jumped on it, moving towards the trunk of the tree. He was going to do some punches. His hands weren’t bandaged for protection, but he didn’t mind.
Standing in the right form, his legs shoulder width apart and his hands at his sides, he faced the trunk. Then, moving his arms in a swift quick motion, he started punching it, making sure he inflicted damage on the tree, letting just enough power into his punches and focusing his energy solely onto his exercise. He took 5 second breaks every 50 punches but when he reached 300 he didn’t stop anymore and just punched and punched. He was still in control of the power he inflicted but with each punch, he added a bit more and soon the trunk was visibly damaged just from his hands. He didn’t mind the blood gushing from his knuckles. He was focused on his training and forgetting to buy new bandages wasn’t going to stop him from getting the training done.
After he felt like he did enough, he wiped the blood on his shirt, hissing involuntarily at the pain the contact with the shirt created. He ascended to the ground, deciding to take a lunch break and clean his hands to prevent an infection. Training usually made him super hungry and he looked forward to making some instant ramen to replenish his energy and strength.
