Feeling the ruthless still
I'LL TAKE
Y O U ↓

† Standing outside of the local tofu shop, with his back pressed against the wooden panels that comprised the building's exterior, Kurokawa Hanzo found himself counting down the minutes until his appointment with the physician. He wasn't the kind of man that shirked away from a proper diet and a healthy lifestyle, but he wasn't the sort of fella that enjoyed the grandstanding that came with being physically fit. Especially, when you were already a member of a military village. Everyone was hot, in good shape and ultimately had talents and skills that set them apart from their peers. Big fucking whoopity doo. These things hardly caught his attention. He knew that later in the day he'd go to a mandatory training program and one of the pre-requisites was to attend a medical check-up. He hadn't ever needed to take one in the past, so to say that he was wary of the whole affair would be an understatement. Last thing he wanted to do was be poked and prodded. Especially since there was no way of knowing if this village was legitimately ran or not. Maybe these fucks wanted to harvest his cells for some nefarious purposes. It was a possibility.

He remembered getting a missive that expressly warned the youth that he should attempt to be inconspicuous. Which was a direct violation of his personal belief system. Hiding like a coward wasn't exactly what he envisioned himself doing and he was starting to realize that being a ninja was a hell of a lot more of a hassle than being a bandit was. Perhaps that was why he went out of his way to dress in attire that he thought suited him far more than the clothing he had been delivered yesterday. Wearing black pants that were loose fitting but not baggy, with a long, flowing teal sash around his waist that would hold his sheathed katana if he had remembered to bring it. Yet again, he just didn't think it would be required. His upper abdomen was covered entirely in bandage wraps, stopping just underneath his biceps. This was exposed due to the black short-sleeve shirt that he wore over his body that was plain in nature. It was an open shirt, however, with a zipper that allowed it to be closed. But he liked to show off whenever he could, even if he had no direct audience. He wore sandals that were made of cherry wood that had black cord ties.

"Might as well head inside." He stated with a roll of the eye, tossing the kebab skewer he had been chewing on to the ground. It was the start of his heel turn, being the serial litterer whose legend would consume the world. Dramatization aside, he had lifted himself off the wall and made his way across the road, entering the medical center with a huff and a look of annoyance plastered all over his face. He knew that physical exams were invasive, at least that was what he had gathered from all of the chatter he had heard the night prior. Still, he was more than willing to get it over with if it meant that he'd be allowed to see some action finally. So far, the only thing that he had done of note was graduate that ninja academy. Which was embarrassing since he absolutely creamed those little snots in his class. Not that it was an issue that he threw hands with literal children. It was more that he didn't enjoy the fact that he had to prove himself from the very bottom. But he digressed. If that was the only way to secure himself a future worthy of himself, then by all means he'd achieve it.

He'd wait at the receptionist's desk for a moment, looking upon how empty the lobby happened to be, not that it was a large lobby by any stretch of the imagination. One thing he learned about Tanbogakure early on was that it hadn't yet become the large-scale monolith like some of the greater villages. But size didn't equate to quality. Though he personally had both in spades. At any rate, that aside, he didn't say much when the receptionist called his name. He merely approached her and nodded as he headed into the back room. His physician was a woman with bright green hair and the body of a mature bombshell, but her age was one of the primary reasons that Hanzo failed to register her. It wasn't that he wasn't interested in older women, he just wasn't at the age to appreciate them yet. Still, he'd begin disrobing as soon as he had entered the room, which caused the physician to speak up quickly. "Whoa there, no need to rush darling. We will just run some quick tests first and then you can continue." This interjection was enough to stop Hanzo, who had only removed his shirt at this point. He'd remove his eyepatch, revealing his eye was perfectly fine.

He'd been in the room for approximately thirty minutes. His physician had said her name but he had been so far into his own head that he didn't listen for it. Over the course of his time in the room, she utilized a variety of tools and instruments to conduct her experiments. Shining a light into his mouth and checking out his dentistry, keeping a keen eye out for any irregularities or signs of disease. Every time she finished a motion she'd jotted down on her clipboard notes. Not that Hanzo bothered to look at the results. She'd make him follow her finger and look at a board of letters and symbols to make sure that his eyes were functioning properly. Shortly afterwards she'd check his ears, nose, and throat as well, being rather thorough in her experiments. The entire ordeal should have made Hanzo uncomfortable, especially once he was finally allowed to disrobe. But he had no flaws in his own opinion. Even the scars that sat on his torso were perfection in his mind. By the time that she had finished up the last of her tests, including one where he was told to cough, she had a large grin on her face.

Writing in an aggressive manner as Hanzo put his clothing back on. She'd inform him of the success of his examination. "Looks like you're the perfect picture of health. Let's keep that in check alright, darling? If you do anything reckless you might end up on a milk carton." She was clearly joking, but there was wisdom in her words. This was a hard life that led to a lot of bloodshed, missing limbs and harvested organs. The fact that he was perfectly fine was something that he appreciated. One thing that she noticed, however, more so than anything else, was that he'd be a perfect candidate for keeping his blood pure. She'd impart this thought onto him. "You should truly think about dedicating yourself to your training. You have a lot of physical potential, Hanzo." There was a pause before he finally spoke, "I suspect you may be onto something. The Kurokawa have always been a loose knit group of farmers. Never had the talents to make it as warriors, so we never became a clan. I'm the last one now, so I should preserve what I got." She was taken aback by how quickly he came to agree with her. But it didn't phase him all that much.

He'd peer over towards the medical professional and looked at her with suspicion and intrigue. "What do you suggest I do in order to maintain this... purity as you put it?" He was genuinely curious to learn how to improve himself. Not only for his own sake, but for the sake of the village. If he was seen as useful to this new home then he would finally have a family worthy of himself. If a village was capable of rising up during this period of turmoil, then there was no doubt that those in charge were monsters. The kinds of people whom didn't bend the knee to the greater nations, nor lend their strength to others that followed a similar path. Hanzo didn't want to take on the responsibility of the world. He'd never cut it as a leader, but what he did have was the tenacity to become more than the sum of his parts. If he could master the one thing that he knew how to do, if he could become the ultimate killing tool then all of his struggling in life would not have been for nothing. He'd raise his hand over his chest, feeling his own heartbeat in his palm.

"For starters, you should never undergo any genetic transplants, not even if the potential benefits seem worthwhile. To be pure is to keep only your cells in your body. It would be a tragedy should you go through all that effort only to have the miniscule benefits it would provide you fail." Hanzo watched the woman as she moved away, heading over towards a bookshelf to remove something from it. "Furthermore, you'll find that your body will undergo rigorous changes should you dedicate yourself fully to this. The process isn't exactly well known or defined, it seems to be a mental thing. Here... read this guide. It should aid you in the basics of meditation." She'd waltz over and hand him the slender book, patting his shoulder before heading towards the door that led to the lobby. "But should you focus hard enough I am sure you'd achieve the desired results. I'll give you a moment to think on it, try meditating a bit and when I come back I'll see if you figured out the process." With a wink she was gone, leaving Hanzo to his own devices, at least for now. With a huff he'd take his time looking over the information in the book.

To be honest it sounded like complete and utter nonsense. Nothing she had said made him feel as though he'd achieve anything through meditation. But he had recalled that numerous individuals around the village could be seen in deep contemplation from time to time. Perhaps this whole meditation thing was in his best interest after-all. He had to simply focus on a goal and fixate on it to the point in which it manifested. It was pretty clear to him now what he had to do. He needed to expel all of the impurities from his body. Anything foreign or strange that didn't belong there had to be ousted out. He'd need to close his mind and his body, segregate his self from the world. To become completely whole, he needed to reject the notion of inclusivity. At least when it came to his physical form. He'd breathe in deeply, repeating the action until he felt like he lost track of time. His heart-rate cooled and entered dangerous levels of slowness. He was lost in a world of his own mental creation, until he could feel his body moving on it's own. His eyes snapped open, the physician was standing in front of him, taking notes. A grin on her face.

"I think that may have done the trick. Do that once a day, every day, and you should be able to maintain your gift. From what I can see and the bloodwork we took while you were under, you seem to be a fine specimen. No impurities of any kind." She'd smiled before resting her right hand upon her hip before gesturing towards the door. "We'll let you know when you're due for another check-up. Have a lovely day, Mr. Kurokawa." With that Hanzo, in a daze of sorts, rose up from the table and finished dressing himself properly. Making his way over towards the entryway with a look of sheer confusion plastered on his face. One that melted away the moment he saw a familiar figure in the lobby. A figure that was oh so satisfying to behold. Clearing his throat, he'd smirk and look upon the Yamanaka woman that he had met a few nights ago. "Just couldn't stay away, could you? How have you been, bombshell?" He had called her that, the blond bombshell, nights prior. He liked the ring of it, so he continued to address her as such.

With his hand on his hip, he'd look her over. "Don't tell me you're here to get a check up for the Patrol Training as well? How fun. I assume you just finished, we can head over there together." He moved over towards the exit, leaning against the door. Gauging her.

My friends don't walk they run
MYBRAINIS SCATTERED

Izumi felt as if the entire idea of needing a ‘check up’ for the purpose of being able to go on patrol was entirely silly. As she sighed, even after forty-five minutes of arguing trying to get out of it – she ended up heading towards the doctors regardless. It wasn’t a battle she was about to win. As frustrating and annoying as it was. As she entered the plain looking building, she glanced about – no faces she recognized yet, thankfully. She knew that Kunika would scold her about arguing with the woman giving out jobs; but at the end of the day, how did this woman not know that she was in perfect health? It simply didn’t make any sense at all. It was rather frustrating all in all.

Knowing that Kunika would eventually catch wind of these transgressions, and when Izumi would return to their small home – she would hear all about her ungratefulness towards the people helping them get money. Which was entirely the truth, and she knew that; even in the moments of the argument herself – but still she did it anyways. It was entirely her own fault for causing the pain she would endure later on. She would speak to the receptionist, she was instructed to wait a few moments for the doctor, which she would. Sitting in the waiting room, tapping her nails against her knees as she sat, impatiently. Izumi wasn’t dressed as she normally would be, as she assumed that she would be out on missions. She wore a simple white tank top, that was cut at her mid-drift, with black shorts cutting off at her thighs.

She would have her hair pulled back in a mid height pony tail, her bangs and a few strands hanging around the frame of her face. The receptionist would come towards her, “He is ready for you know.” She would note, Izumi would nod and get up, walking towards the door she had pointed at, sitting down in the empty room, as she looked around; scanning it carefully… Doctors were such a bore, and she already knew she was in perfect health… The doctor would come in at this point, sitting down across from her. “Welcome…” He would glance down to the sheet of paper, “Izumi. I see you’re here for a full physical in order to start going on patrol.” She would simply nod… He would stare for a moment, before nodding, “Alright, not much of a talker I see.” He would stand, turning his back to her, grabbing several vials and a needle, as well as other instruments and tools. “I’ll make this as quick and painless as possible. We’ll run the simple tests together, then a female nurse will come in and check the rest to make sure you are comfortable.” She would nod again.

Sighing as she zoned out of the situation happening before her, she simply didn’t want to be bothered… In all reality, she hadn’t ever had a good experience with doctors, and to keep herself from slitting the throat of the man poking and prodding at her, she needed to zone out. She would focus on her breathing, keeping her eyes closed, “Alright. We’re done with this half. The nurse will be in shortly.” Izumi would nod, the door would open then close… A few minutes would pass – then it would open again, a small woman maybe the same heigh as Izumi but far older would come in and greet her, “Hello Miss!” Izumi would smile towards her, she wasn’t a doctor, so the warmth that the girl normally held towards people would shine out, as the older woman explained things, Izumi would get undressed and go through protocols and do as she was told.

After several awkward minutes, the exam was done and Izumi would dress once more, the male doctor would return to the room with the nurse beside him, “Well we have great news. You are within perfect health… I don’t have any previous records to go by, but we are impressed. You are in peak physical condition. We’re going to go ahead and clear you for patrol duties. We recommend getting an exam every year, and if anything changes, we make it less or more. Just depends.” Izumi would nod, she knew this already and nothing came as a surprise to her. “Thank you.” She would state, taking the paper he held out for her clearing her for patrol. She would head out of the room, back to the reception area.

Izumi would make her next appointment exactly one year to date, she would nod as the receptionist would give her a card with the date and time on it. She would then hear a familiar voice… At first being unable to place the voice as she turned to look at the familiar figure… It was one of the men from the bar at the Tea House a few days ago. She would smile, a half smile, but a smile none the less. “How could I possibly stay away from such a delicious company like yourself? I am well. Yourself?” She would lift her brow, she didn’t enjoy the nickname she seemed to have acquired from the man, but she would play the game none the less… Of course she could feel her sister almost breathing down her back, the fumes from Izumi being with this man once again…

I certainly did have to. As stupid as it was.” She would state, sighing as she rolled her eyes lightly, “I suppose if we’re both heading in that direction, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to accompany each other.” She grinned towards him, her amber eyes staring at him carefully… He was interesting to say the least, her interactions with this man from the last time were… Eventful to say the least, from what she could remember of that night. She had been quite deep in the sake. She would walk towards the door, stopping just in front of him, just on the side, had she been directly in front of him; they would have been chest to chest, “If you can keep up, of course.” She smirked, biting her bottom lip gently as she walked past him and out the door, her heart rate having increased significantly from her own comment.

She was a bolder character, sometimes even outlandish with her comments… Usually only when she wanted something from someone, but this was just simply fun… She didn’t mind it either. As she entered the streets of Tanbogakure, the small village scenery would bring another smile to her face, she had lived in larger more major villages most of her life, she didn’t often get to see a peaceful outlook on life, like she did here. It brought happiness so to speak, something she enjoyed quite a bit… “How was your exam?” She would ask, unsure if he was actually behind her or not, but simply assuming the man would follow step as she left.

Feeling the ruthless still
I'LL TAKE
Y O U ↓

† He could tell by the way that she spoke that she didn't like her check-up, though from the sound of it she didn't have a bad test over-all. He didn't respond to her provocations immediately, however, instead choosing to grin while watching her exit the building. Making sure his eyes got a perfect eyeful of the curves that she had on fully display. He was defenseless to this kind of woman, he knew that much. He wondered if she was related to the ginger woman by blood or not. Both were attractive, but they could have been step-siblings for all he knew. Still, this was the one that caught his attention the most. This Izumi. He had wondered how she planned to fend off all of the goons they were likely to come across while on patrol. It wasn't exactly rocket science, but he was still intrigued by the prospect. He'd catch up to her, walking beside and began to engage in small talk. Nothing too serious, mostly filling her in on the conversation he had with his doctor. But soon enough the pair would find themselves at the Patrol office, where they had to take their test before becoming official.

"Looks like the instructor is waiting for us." Hanzo stated as he moved ahead of the gorgeous kunoichi and opened the door so that she could enter first. Was he being a gentleman? Hardly, he just liked having an excuse to get behind her. Still, he'd resume watching her figure as he'd entered after her should she have entered first. If she didn't then he'd entered first. Either way, he'd interlaced his fingers atop his head as he looked at the back of a muscular yet bald-headed man. His chrome dome shimmered with light. The man turned around, revealing he had a vertical scar on his left eye, both of which were brown. He seemed to be on the taller side and was fairly muscular. He held a cigarette in his mouth, which he dragged on for a moment before looking up at the pair. "Hanzo and Izumi-chan, the last two for classes. Perfect, follow me inside and we will get you both sorted." The man was cold in his voice as he turned once more, heading to the left of the receptionist deck and pushing open two large double doors. He'd walk for a short while until he opened up another, smaller door.

The man would begin to instruct the classroom of about seven people on proper procedure and protocol. Stressing the importance of apprehending suspects and prioritizing that to killing them, though relaying that in more dangerous areas the likelihood of taking in a suspect alive shrunk in margin by several magnitudes. He was serious, and stern, but his lesson plan was rather thorough. By the time the class had been going up until it's halfway point, he'd had several men enter with their faces covered. "Alright, each of you will apprehend the suspect using any method you deem necessary. The crime committed, theft." He'd call each of the individual students up one at a time before it was Hanzo's turn, who seemed to be chosen before Izumi. Slipping his hands into his pockets, he'd walk up to the front of the classroom and approach the target with a smile on his face. Without saying a word his fist would find itself plunged into the stomach of the assistant, who'd crumple from the sheer force of the hit itself. "Neutralize the potential threat before they have the option of fleeing or resisting arrest. Conduct the investigation once the target is captured." Hanzo smirked.

The instructor rubbed his temples "Good enough, go sit down ya muscle-brained idiot." The insult made Hanzo grimace, but he went back to his seat without issue. Smirking at Izumi as the instructor spoke again. "Your turn." He called out as he looked across the way towards Izumi. His eyes narrow and his finger pointing at her. A different assistant came forward while the one who had been struck in the stomach found himself removed from the immediate area. The instructor watched what Izumi did carefully and responded negatively if she had chosen to use violence over diplomacy. Though if she managed to do diplomacy, she'd get praise instead. By the time that her actions were finished, however, the Instructor rubbed his temples again. "Congrats, you all are certified. Come get a paper. Remember the patrol routes. We will not assign these to you, it's your duty as a shinobi to patrol when you can. Now your first assignment, before we let you cut loose, go to the Ninja Headquarters and patrol it then report back here. Izumi and Hanzo, I need you both to go to this address and slap an eviction notice on their door." He had a serious look on his face that showcased just how done he was with this entire class. He then exited the room entirely. Hanzo on the other hand rose up from his desk, waiting for Izumi before he walked down to pick up the paper.

He'd make small talk with her about the class, but nothing important was really said about the entire affair. "Looks like the best option is to comply for now. I'll tag with you, I'm good protection." He was in the literal sense but his intentions might have been elsewhere. Though once she was ready to head out, he figured she would be given the fact that she seemed to be playing a game with him. It was clear he was on the hook so why let him off now? Especially, when you were going to end up at the same place regardless. It was a thought at the very least. One that he was very aware of. On the way towards their destination he'd make a bit more small talk with her.

He didn't tell her anything dramatic about himself, he didn't reveal anything too sensitive. He was still trying to impress her. Which was the primary reason that he made sure to tell her that he was a blacksmith, or at least had training in it. It explained why he was so muscular at any rate. Though not as muscular as he could have been. He could have truly been a beast in terms of his appearance. The first place they made it too was the location that the instructor had given them. It didn't take long to get them out of the house though. All Hanzo had to do personally was stand there and look intimidating while Izumi did whatever she did. But eventually the family figured it was far too much trouble than it was worth and they vacated the premises without much of a hassle. To that end, there was nothing that could be done about it now. In the end, they did their pit stop and though Hanzo felt bad evicting people, that was the power of landlords. He'd have to make a note to go and beat the shit out of that landlord later. But hey, if you didn't pay your dues you don't get to just mooch off other people. No matter how bad you struggled.

Again they left the residence that was along the way towards their final stop. The feeling of guilt he had was long gone by the time they started walking again. At least he didn't have to hurt anyone.

Once getting to the destination proper, he kept talking to her, but kept a look out for any disturbances. It looked like it was going to be an easy going night. Still, he was a bit of a chatty Cathy. Discussing nothing of importance once more. He was really good at holding a conversation about nothing. He told her that his favorite food was lamb chops and that he bulked a lot to sustain his muscular look. He even told her that despite how he looked he hadn't been in too many fights in his life. To the point in which it made him nervous to actually go one on one with others.

"Whelp, we should go turn in this report... and then maybe get a drink if you're down for that." There weren't many people in this village that he felt comfortable being around all things considered. He needed to make sure that things didn't get too out of hand. Right now she didn't seem as though she was annoyed with his presence. Even though he had talked a lot, he didn't talk so much that he'd come across as annoying at the very least. That wasn't his style at least.

But hey, shoot your shots. Regardless of if she said she was interested or not, he'd head to turn in the report. If she was down for that drink he'd wait for her and then go to Taika's. It was a good spot to get wasted and personally, it was a fitting hangout spot for Tanbogakure shinobi.

My friends don't walk they run
MYBRAINIS SCATTERED

Izumi would continue to engage in small talk with the man, her eyes carefully inspecting the streets of Tanbogakure as the pair moved along. She could feel his eyes on her, but she didn’t want to make it so obvious that she also had her eyes on him when she could. She had a feeling that this man was already very interested in her, from their meeting in the tea house, to now it didn’t seem as if anything had changed. The conversation between the two flowed rather easy. She would make note, as he moved in front of her to open the door; the instructor, as stated was waiting for them it seemed. A smirk climbed across her face as she studied the man and his words. “Thank you, and I apologize for keeping you waiting, sir.” She would state, as they moved through the double doors. She made note of his bald head, and scar that went along his face… He was taller and muscular; they would reach another door after walking for a short period of time, it was smaller and singular.

As the classroom of seven would take their seats, and the class would begin, Izumi would listen to every word, studying it carefully… The different options, and situations that were brought up, she would carefully take mental notes, and watch as each student went through their practicum. As Hanzo would be called before her, she would watch him carefully… Brute force, she couldn’t help the smirk that crossed her face once again – she figured as much. He didn’t seem much like a reasoning type of person – however chatty he was before. The instructor however made his insults, Izumi would cover her lower face, hiding the smirk. Her amber eyes gleamed as he would state it was her turn… However this time the ‘assailant’ was different. This one, yet again seemed to be ‘brawny’ and almost acted as if he was unwilling of communication. Izumi knew that getting information, as well as getting people to do what she wanted was something she became quite a master at. Izumi walked up, her eyes focusing on the man before her. She would inhale, her eyes staring almost dead center at the man as she moved her hands in front of her, a single hand seal – ease. She was a Yamanaka after all, getting into peoples heads was their thing.

For a few moments everything was silent as she ruffled through his head, the power struggle was there for sure, he tried to resist her, but in the end, his attempts were unsuccessful, it lasted all of maybe ten seconds. “I think it will be best, if you get on your knees, and put your hands behind your back.” She would state, and the man would follow her orders as she took a medium length red ribbon from her pocket. Tying it around his wrists, she would then order him to lay on the ground, he would comply. “Good?” She would turn her gaze towards the instructor. He would narrow his eyes and nod, although it wasn’t directly diplomacy; out right where everyone else would hear, it was a form. She didn’t quite use any mind control, but rather hidden secrets she had found from searching inside of his head.

And with that, the instructor would inform everyone that they passed, as she assumed they would. Their first assignment; an eviction notice. A small sigh, simple but grunt work. But money was money; and she certainly loved money. “You got it.” She noted, as Hanzo would grab the paper before she could, the small talk about the class was inconsequential; but they still referred to discussion about it for a short period of time. She would nod towards his statement. “I’m sure you are good… Protection.” She would glance towards him, her smirk was quite small but still there… She wouldn’t mind some… Protection from him.

As they would begin their walk to the house requiring the eviction, they would begin their small talk once more, she would learn somethings about him, such as his favorite food, as well as some other things of importance. She would tuck this information away for safe keeping, as she wouldn’t know if they would come in handy at a later point. She did find the fact that he had training in blacksmithing slightly impressive, it was in fact quite hard work, and the muscle needed for it was… Entertaining for sure. As they finally reached the house, as they walked up and Izumi went to give them the notice; they would begin their protests. Of course the blonde hair’d woman felt bad for them… She couldn’t help it, a family with children… This was their home… Izumi knew the dangers of not having a home for the kids, having been herself an orphan. Izumi did make sure to let them know of different options they could go about and different places that were far cheaper for them to live. After a while their arguments died down, and they would agree to moving out without a struggle. As the family left, Izumi would slip the last of the ryo she had on her person to the mother, wishing them the best of luck.

As they walked along to their final destination Izumi felt the guilt of having to kick them out begin to dissipate, it was a sad situation to say the least, and she did attempt to help in anyway she could, offering them advice and giving them some financial easements, it still didn’t feel like it was enough. But for now, it was all she could do, and she learned to accept the fact that you can’t help everyone a long time ago. She would nod towards his statements about his life, and the different things about him. Making note of the different styles and foods and everything else. She found the conversation able to flow between them rather easily. She enjoyed it, whereas others might get annoyed. She found comfort in his words. “Yes… We should.” She would agree, her eyes looking towards him once again, “Another drink? All this time alone; might get a girl thinking that you have other plans.” She would smirk, nodding as they would drop off the reports of the day and head out towards Taika’s, she did enjoy the place for sure.
