Tsubasa, The Help Empty Tsubasa, The Help

Sat Dec 07, 2019 5:10 pm
The first mission a young shinobi embarks on should be an important moment for their career, as even though the lower-ranked missions were generally easy and not memorable on their own; the fact that the first of them would represent a milestone in the shinobi’s career allows it to forever stay within their memory. Tsubasa’s first mission would stay within his mind for a different reason. This mission would stay because it would come in the form of total failure and defeat. Tsubasa was a sight for sore eyes, staggering through the misty forest outside of his village, breathing heavily and covered in all sorts of cuts scratches and fur. A sneeze from the young man would echo through the night, causing a flock of nearby birds to fly off in fear.

Tsubasa had been tasked with finding a lost cat, a task that was very commonly asked of genin. The difference between Tsubasa’s situation and that of the average genin embarking on a similar task was that the cat he had been assigned to bring back had come directly from the depths of the underworld. The events of his encounter with the cat flashed through the young man’s mind, causing him to shudder slightly:

The two locked eyes, the man and the beast, staring each other down. Neither of the two was willing to show any signs of weakness to their opponent. Tsubasa was the first to break eye contact, though it wasn’t of his own volition. During the 2-minute long stare down, droplets of sweat begin falling from Tsubasa’s forehead, one of which got into Tsubasa’s eyes and caused him to shut them quickly. The young shinobi hadn’t even realized he had begun to sweat, but once he shut his eyes he noticed an accumulation of moisture on the back of his neck as well as beneath his arms. This was no ordinary opponent; Tsubasa was beginning to realize that he was up against a force the likes of which he had never come up against in his entire life. Even in times where he had pissed off older, much stronger shinobi, Tsubasa had never felt so sure that he was outmatched by his opponent.

This though was confirmed a moment later, as the demon cat took advantage of his opponent’s lack of attention and temporary blindness; hurling its 20-inch, 12-pound grey frame directly into the face of the shinobi. As the beast from hell began scratching and clawing at the face of Tsubasa, he’d fall onto his back with his legs flailing wildly. After a few moments of this assault, the young man finally got his senses together enough to realize that he should probably counterattack. Cocking back his fist to ensure that he used as much power as possible, Tsubasa swung with all his might towards the cat, failing to remember exactly where the cat was located. So, due to his failure to think ahead, Tsubasa had to deal with a powerful punch swung directly into his face as the cat nimbly jumped away from Tsubasa allowing him to knock himself nearly out cold. Rolling over from the pain, Tsubasa watched through starry eyes as the cat walked away from him. Tsubasa blinked rapidly, with each opening and closing of his eyes seeing the cat get further and further away. As the cat got to the edge of his vision, Tsubasa rolled over onto his back to instead look at the sky above him. Tsubasa couldn’t believe he had just done that, how had he been so stupid. Tsubasa took some time to reflect on his actions before getting up to begin walking back to the village.

Tsubasa, The Help Empty Re: Tsubasa, The Help

Tsubasa still had his encounter with the cat fresh on his mind as he walked back in the direction of the village. It made no sense to him that he had lost so soundly to what appeared at first to be a common house cat. Lost in thought as he walked, it took him a while to notice just how far his enemy had led him away from Kirigakure. The area around him only looked more unfamiliar as he walked further. "Where the hell am I?" Tsubasa wondered aloud as he began to realize that he was lost. He stopped where he was and looked around, taking in his surroundings and trying to find any landmark or familiarity that would allow him to figure out where he was. Finding nothing, Tsubasa would stop and sigh to himself, "How is it that I manage to not only get my ass kicked by a house cat but also got lost trying to get to my village?"

Then, almost as if by fate, Tsubasa noticed a small trail to his left. It was a narrow, rocky strip of land, but it was enough for Tsubasa. Taking this sighting as a sign Tsubasa would begin to follow the path. The rocky path was a long one. The young man found himself walking over it for a long time; as by the time he reached a set of 3 large stones, the sun was beginning to rise again. Ignoring his exhaustion, Tsubasa stepped closer to examine the stones. The stones were around 5 feet tall, and each of them had a different image carved into the face. One of the images was of an Anbu, specifically of a Kirigakure hunter-nin; the second image was of a large man wielding an equally large blade that appeared to be one of Kiri's 7 greatest blades. The final rock showed an image of a small child, who at first glance appeared to be completely normal. Once Tsubasa looked closer though, he noticed that the child was seemingly draped in an outline of sorts. He couldn’t really tell what it was meant to represent as the image was carved into stone but outline was the word that closest fit what he was seeing. “Freaky,” Tsubasa would say to himself.

A small part of Tsubasa wanted to reach out and touch one of the statues, specifically the one of the sword wielding character, but he decided to retrain himself and continue walking the path; those stones and the images carved into them stayed at the front of Tsubasa’s mind as he walked though. As Tsubasa walked farther and farther along the narrow path, he began to hear the sounds of moving water. “Oh god yes, some water would be perfect right now.” Tsubasa received exactly what he wanted soon after, as he turned on the path and found himself now walking directly parallel to a small river; off to the distance the young shinobi could also see what appeared to be a small village, but at the moment he was consumed by his thirst and was much more interested in dipping his face into the water. The path ground Tsubasa had been walking on was fortunately only a few inches above the water’s surface, so by dropping to his knees, he was able to quickly and easily submerge his entire head beneath it.  After gulping down water for a few seconds, the newly rejuvenated boy lifted his head out of the water before immediately rising to his feet. “Now, I believe I saw a village off in the distance?” Since his thirst was quenched, he was finally able to focus and realize how lucky he had been. “Thank goodness I found a village out here because I have no idea how to get back to Kirigakure.” With that he began walking into the village, hoping that someone within it would be willing to help him.
