Missions:

Kai had taken on several missions to earn some money and help keep the village as was expected of an academy student and personally he found it a nice break from training and to show that he would not back down from a challenge. He had heard many whisper that his dreams was a foolish one and he could understand their viewpoints even if he disagreed. Being a ninja  was dangerous at the best of times, let alone a blind ninja, they were likely few and far between or perhaps had lost their vision during the course of mission. Kai didn’t know about any other ninja in the village with similar vision restrictions applying to join the Kiri nin. He knew the whispers and comments were not meant in any malicious way and often they were spoken so quietly that anormal person could not have heard them. Kai had never advertised the true extent of his enhanced senses following the loss of his eye sight and as a result of his constant training. He preferred to keep his strengths close to his chest in case word of his abilities spread and his advantage of surprise would be lost.
He manoeuvred through the village along the main paths, gently sweeping with a broom as he walked forming small piles to the side of the walk way every 15 meters or so.

Kai had gotten up before sunrise and started to work the obvious and heavy build ups of sand from the main paths in the centre of the village before it got too busy, before proceeding to the smaller pathways stretching out that he was working on now. He had been at the task for several hours yet time did not seem to drag for him as he focused on every broom stroke, timing it and trying to make it as perfectly efficient as possible. He had completed the job many times, the first few had left his hands in bloody tatters as the skin was stripped bare from the repetitive motions. Now he had developed enough callus on his hands that it no longer seemed to effect him and the painful first attempts were but faded memory. Kai had found it took a resounding amount of effort to keep such precise control over his movements during the course of even basic work and the various jobs he carried out in the village had become another form of training for him. Geared more towards control and rhythm it provided a physical outlet that allowed him to drift into the rhythm of the task, each new step and movement with the broom being his only reality. As he worked in the darkness he would hear the occasional footfalls and feel the soft displacement of air or mist that announced passing ninja on the roof tops or in the street.

Kai’s favourite time in the village was when everyone seemed to slowly creep to life as shops opened and the village itself woke up with the dawn light, or at least with the brightening of the mist light that pervaded over the village. By the time the village had fully awakened the main roads to and from the central area of the village had been swept almost entirely free of sand and piled up in tied of sacks that Kai had stacked neatly to the side of the paths. The build up of sand was a constant problem for the village with requests being made every few weeks or every few days if a particularly nasty storm had rolled through. It was common for missions only to be issued once they reached a certain amount of complaints so as to prevent a small army of genin and academy students from clogging the centre of the village. Kai used to wonder why the villagers simply didn't clean their own shops and allow the genin and students that frequently accept these kinds of missions to simply clear the roads. He had since reflected that it appeared to be a time honoured tradition and simply accepted the fact. He just wished the shop keepers would not complain so audibly (to his ears) about it all the time. Inevitably the sand would be cleaned so it seemed a waste of good air and energy to Kai but then he had long since given up on understanding some people in the village.

Once the main streets had been cleared of sand he ferried the bags of sand to their designated area before retrieving a mop and bucket and getting to work on cleaning the first Mizukage’s monument. Kai began by picking up and rubbish or detritus that had been left at the base of the statue, using the broom to sweep the lower levels before collecting it into a basket Kai carried on his back for the purpose. Once the base was cleared he began washing the statue itself, guided by his sense of smell and touch to locate the areas that required the most attention, slowly scaling the monument itself with careful practised movements before locking his legs around the statues head and shooing away the birds with the broom. He at cleaning the head of the statue with a rag and cloth after pulling up a  small bucket of water on a rope he had tied around his waist as he climbed. He found it silently amusing that he knew the face of the first Mizukage almost as well as his own, providing the statue was an accurate likeness, than most people in the village, each ridge and angle of the statue clear in his mind as his own face Kai vaguely wondered how much clearer everyone’s shapes in his head would be if he had a miniature replica of each one. It was however very unlikely that many such statuettes would actually exist and he certainly had no interest in touching everyone’s face. He continued his cleaning and was eventually satisfied with his work and scurried his way down the statue with more grace than might be expected.
Kai double checked he had all of the equipment he brought with him before returning to the mission office and claiming his rewards for another days work.
