Time to Earn that PhD

It was a beautiful day outside. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and Zunair didn't give a damn. He was too busy with a corpse. Some job, eh? Zunair put his hands down onto the table; his gloves stuck to the cold surface as he tapped his fingers to the beat of the song playing from an office across the hall. The morgue was an uncommonly quiet place and so the usually annoying shoujo anime openings were rather pleasant from the unseen radio as he looked down into the chest cavity of the woman from room 103; an oddity to see and feel something so cold while his own was functioning. The basement area of Konoha Hospital reminded Zunair of catacombs. Dank, dark, and overall creepy. And this is coming from the tough-as-nails Hyūga. Considering that he hated dead bodies, it's impressive the profession he's in.

The part he disliked the most about working in the morgue was the moment before deciding if he needed to open the person up if their death was suspicious, or straightforward. Then of course if he did, he'd have to put them all back- the organs. Honestly, Zunair didn't know why people didn't sign themselves up for being a donor, or why families even wanted to bury their loved ones with everything intact. Zunair knew what happened to bodies that were buried: nothing. The bodies took up space in the earth that people didn't even have the decency to think about, purely because they wanted to stand above something, not just see a grave.

Looking up at the clock that was positioned high on the north wall, it read 12:53. Good. His shift was basically over, which he was thankful for it. Closing the bag that the dead woman was in, he put her back into her freezer compartment. A sigh of relief left his lips as he exited the morgue and headed up the stairs towards the south. Now, he has the opportunity to teach a freshly appointed genin: Nakama Uzumaki. She is one of few strivings to become a medical ninja for the leaf. He was actually excited to pass on his knowledge to those just starting out.

Zunair had a letter sent to the female instructing to meet him in room 304 at 1:00 PM. As he entered the room, he looked to see if everything was left just like how he left it. A realistic dummy laid in the center of the room, books containing all the information needed to practice medical ninjutsu laid on the counter. That was the only thing he really needed to start his lesson. Now, he just patiently waits for her arrival.

Daylight, something so commonly enjoyed by those to be awake within its rays, this wasn't the case for Nakama unfortunately, she had been sleeping in later and later after that incident with the tendrils and what not, almost like she was sapped of energy due to it, sure it left scarring on her back but that could be fixed once it properly healed completely, whatever this was however must of been psychological, cause it had in most cases just put her is a mood similiar to being depressed though without all the grim and edgy thoughts, more so just the less sleep and less energy, she hadn't even really left the house in a day or two, though as her dreams of which could only be described as setting a house on fire while cooking were shattered apart from a curled up newspaper bonking her on the head she woke up, to 1 the curtains wide open sending a enormous amount of light into her eyes all at once, only too recoil into another smack from the newspaper from her mother, who was trying to wake her up. "Wake up already you lazy lazy girl!" Her mother would yell and at that rate Nakama had completely awoken covering her head. "Ow ow! quit it! I'm up I'm up!" Nakama had replied rolling to the side away from her mother's reach, falling out of her bed still in her night gown with a groan, seems like it was time to start the day whether she wanted to or not. Getting up as her mother continued to berate her with how lazy she was Nakama just shuffled across the room to her dresser.

Grabbing a simple hoodie among other clothing she quickly made her way out of the room away from the nagging voice of her mother into a bathroom to change, after doing so her mother would end up being right outside the bathroom. "You also got a letter, who would send you a letter with how lazy you've been lately I've no idea." Her mother had simply handed Nakama the letter to read. After skimming over it she couldn't help but be rather surprised, after all very rarely did she ever get a chance to practice, even less in a professional environment, who was she to refuse such a offer. She could only think of how she'd get there in time considering it was already 12:40. 20 minutes... could she cross town in that amount of time, she'd best move now if she wanted to even try.

Exitting the house via a balcony she'd jump down to street level simply booking it down the street, maybe she could of jumped from building to building, she'd seen others do it but always found it moderately rude and dangerous, not that booking it at mach 2 down a road is any safer, she was mostly just doing her best not to barrel over people but to be it simply, her run went without issue for the most part, besides one or two accounts of tripping she made it to the hospital with 5 minutes to spare, quickly entering she had looked around for a clerk, though with little luck she just went for it, at this rate she had already ran across town she didn't want to be late just cause she waited for a clerk, walking down the hallways it didn't take much time to get to room 304 at exactly 12:58.

Zunair found himself shifting through the pages of a book that titled: The Basic Principles of Medical Ninjutsu. The pages of the book were bound in a thick cover that was shaded in blues and whites. While the book was a couple years old, it was still in perfect condition. He remembered when he first got this book, so enthusiastic to learn what his mother did for her to garner the name, the healing flower of the Hyūga. Now, here he was, excelling in his craft and passing his knowledge down to another inspiring medical shinobi.

A shift in the door and a subtle creak from the hinges alerted Zunair to the presence of the Uzumaki. Shifting his body towards the entrance to the room, he gave a warm smile as she entered the examination room. Moving his fingertips towards the edge of the book, he gently shut the book before maneuvering his body closer towards the red head.

"So, Nakama Uzumaki is it? How are we doing today?" The Byakugan user asked as crossed his arms and positioned his hip against the counter, using it to lean on.

"I'm Zunair Hyūga," Zunair continued, concluding introductions with her.

"I'm glad you got my letter and decided to come here," he said as he uncrossed his arms before moving back towards the stack of books once again.

"I heard through the grapevine that you are also a practitioner of medical ninjutsu, well, a beginner at that." Zunair turned around and looked upon her once again. He didn't mean any judgment for that last part, everyone had to start out somewhere. Even he had too. Luckily, he had Anima to show him the ropes, and this is what he was going to do with Nakama.

"Since the lack of medical shinobi, I have decided to take you under my wing and teach you everything you need to know. You know the art of medical ninjutsu can be very difficult and rigorous, it may take some time to get a thorough feel for it. Although, I did read in your report about how you have excellent chakra control and are able to already perform the chakra scalpel technique, you might master this in now time. So, shall we begin?" Zunair said with a smile before turning back away from her and turning towards the table before grabbing the blue and white book.

Turning to the page that listed the instructions to perform Basic Medical Ninjutsu, he waved Nakame over to give her the book. "We are going to start with the basics, the parent technique to all the jutsu's that lay on your path ahead." Zunair said as he took out a scroll from his rear pocket. Opening the scroll, he placed his hand on the center of the paper and in a poof of smoke, two fish came forth and landed on the operating table.

"You will be using basic medical ninjutsu to revive one of these fish. Watch me first." Zunair said as he performed the hand signs, his palm radiated a light green glow as he pressed his hand on the fish. In a mere second, the fish come back to life, gasping for air. Taking the fish by its fin, he sent it back into its domain.

"Now, your turn," Zunair said as he took a step back to watch Nakame.

Nakama had just sprinted across town, the cold chill getting to her a bit, maybe she should of put something other then shorts on, she left her stockings in her dresser cause she wasn't thinking about that at the time what with her mother beating her head in, coming back to reality looking at the person who summoned her they were... gosh what were they called... was it a Uchiha... no no that was Izuna, and they had those dark edgy red and black eyes, Hyuuga! they were a Hyuuga clan member, how interesting, from what she knew they were mostly specialized in taijutsu among other things, their Byakugan allowed them those luxuries of chakra point viewing and what not, very typical things taught to those with special dojutsu, in other words not her, rather disappointing. Back towards what was happening however she was greeted by the Hyuuga clansman being asked how she was doing. "Well... in all honesty not the best, had a incident in the training fields a few days ago, haven't been feeling great sense." She'd comment, referring to when her Chakra betrayed her releasing a very wrong version of Chakra Chains that simply tore her back to shreds, but that was a week ago, she needed to get over it she figured, thats what her mom would say at least, the hospital couldn't really help her either so.

Upon being given a name to address him as she gave a small bow towards him. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Zunair, i appreciate you taking the time to contact me." She'd state, finally getting back into the swing of being formal, she may look like a typical street kid at the moment but she was taught manners, or more, they were beaten into her, having a mother who was a bit too caring might of been bad in some ways but in that way she would never not have manners to those who were definitely above her, be it in rank or simply age.

Now simply listening to the man he commented that he was glad she had came, as well as that he had heard about her through... the grapevine, its a saying though she's never actually heard of any sort of grapevine in Konoha, perhaps it's simply something the higher ups know about only, but she really didn't know or have the energy to question it, he had began to talk about the lack of Konoha's medical ninjutsu practitioners to which all she could really give a frown, it was hard to believe people getting hurt with almost no one out there to properly treat them, perhaps the other villages had medical ninja but if you were hurt in konoha's borders you'd probably have some awful issues due to the lack of medical ninja around here, she had simply given a soft. "Mhmm..." In response to that topic.

Moving on the Hyuuga had stated that he had intentions to 'take her under his wing' and show her the ropes, which was honestly very nice, no one in the training field seemed to understand medical ninjutsu at the fundamental level. It was always either Taijutsu or Ninjutsu, or whatever other jutsu she didn't exactly care about, but if she was able to practice with a proper partner, she could probably learn far quicker then before which was simply something that made her rather happy, though she simply kept a straight face, maybe a soft smile but not much else, she didn't want to look like a giddy child, even if she was still only a teenager.

Going over the fact he had supposedly read her file, which she was moderately unaware of he stated surprise in her already knowing Chakra Scalpel, in truth it's something she picked up on her own, wasn't very easy all things considered but she managed anyway, though it definitely felt draining to do, why wouldn't it, expelling chakra out of your hand and arm and making literal chakra blade, it was something very strenuous of chakra so learning it took her a while. Before moving on to that she might be able to master some of this stuff in no time and asked if she was ready to begin. With a nod she would say with some underlying hope. "Yep!" Only for her to be walked over to the operating table.

As Zunair explained about the book he was holding he had slipped some scrolls from his pocket only to bring two dead fish out of the scrolls onto the operating table, waiting to see why he summoned them he had explained that he was going to show her a very basic medical ninjutsu, looking down at his hands watching him perform it his hands seem to glow green, though she wasn't entirely sure what he was doing, she didn't have some magical eye that would allow her such a power. He then stated for her to give it a try.

Doing her best she would try to replicate the hand signs, thinking carefully and performing them slowly, before attempting to do the same as her did, her hands likely didn't glow the first time, so she'd try a second, performing the hand signs a bit faster, though still slowly, then a third performing them fast enough to cause the jutsu to work, pressing her hands on the fish only for it to flop to life trying to flop off the table only for her to catch it. "I did it right, right...?"

Zunair watched closely as Nakame began her attempts on bringing the fish back to existence. It only took her a couple tries on being successful, which amazed the Hyūga to an extent. It might be a small first step in some people's eyes, this foundation the Uzumaki is building on, can, and will make her one of the most successful medical-nin's in the Leaf Village in his eyes. Small steps make up for giant leaps in the future.

"Very good!" Zunair gave a small clap in response to Nakame's triumph over the technique. Walking forward, he summoned the creature back into its scroll.

"If it comes by you this natural, you might catch up with me, sooner than later, in medical expertise." Zunair gave an approving nod towards the redhead.

"While that is one of the most basic steps regarding healing capabilities, it is very fundamental moving forward," The two-toned shinobi said as he picked the book once again, moving it a couple pages forward. Almost like it was perfectly timed, a knock rang from the door, which alerted the Hyūga to chime, "come in."

With the turn of the doorknob, in walked Zarina, who closed the door behind her. "Hello, Zarina. Thank you for joining us," Zunair said with a grin as he turned towards Nakame. "Zarina, this Nakame. Nakame, this is Zarina." He introduced the two as he went back to shuffling through the pages.

"Hello, Nakame." Zarina said with stoic expression.

"Anyway, I ask Zarina, here, to help us as for the next steps for today. While the fish was for starters, I figured you would pass already, we would move to the next topic." Zunair said as he finally found the page he was looking for. "This next technique is similar to basic medical ninjutsu; however, instead of requiring contact on the individual, it casts from afar." He stated as he placed the book in front of Nakame. "There will be times our comrades are fighting our enemies and we can't get close to heal them. This technique allows us to heal them from the distance, while they battle. A technique that is vital during group missions and, I hope not, in times of war." The golden-eyed Hyūga concluded as he pointed to the title of the page, which is called, Healing's Reach.

"Zarina, will you stand on the other side of the room." Zunair asked.

"Of course," Zarina responded as she walked from around the table and stood against the wall.

"Alright, will you do what we talked about," Zunair said with Zarina giving a subtle nod before she pulled a kunai from her pouch, lowering he sleeve, and cutting her forearm enough to draw blood while holding it up for them to see. Performing the hand signs for healer's reach, a chakra line extends from Zunair's palm towards Zarina before finally reaching her. In a matter of seconds, the wound closed up.

"Now, your turn. Go ahead, Zarina." Zunair said as the events unfolded like before.

Nakame had looked up to Zunair after raising the fish back to life, a look of hopefulness, that she did well, did it properly, she waited for that reassurance, wanting to know she had done it properly, sure the fish was alive, that should of been enough, but she just wanted that affirmation she supposed, she did eventually get that. A simple good job and a clap, it was nice to have, though she definitely wasn't sure what was next, placing the fish back down she was guided through the room to a door, as Zunair talked about progress and potential, she didn't personally think she had too much of that, but who knows, maybe she could become a great Medical Ninja, she has the will and the perseverance, or so she thought she did at least, what could be past this door she had been lead too was something only Zunair knew, as she looked back to him with mild confusion she expected he had a explanation for the door. Only to open it revealing, a person she assumed, it looked like a person at least, as Zunair explained the person's identity and introduced them to herself she just greeted the person with a small wave, not really knowing much about them, though they did creep her out for some reason.

As Zunair continued to explain what they were doing, now it was time for a new technique it seemed, a basis of medical ninjutsu that could be used at range, that did make sense, though she wasn't entirely sure what to think of it, it was safe for medical ninja to be in the back away from the danger, but at the same time being close allowed for more concentrated techniques as far as she knew, maybe this was simply for something smaller, though as she looked at Zunair who ordered Zarina to walk across the room before doing something that they supposedly talked about Nakame gazed at Zarina she could really only cringe as she saw them slice their forearm open, it made her even take a double take, she just didn't expect for that kind of stuff on her first lesson, watching Zunair the best she could while blocking Zarina from her sight with a hand, Zunair had done the handsigns for a technique she wasn't entirely familiar with at all, watching them the best she could she tried to make a mental note of them before seeing a string of Chakra go from Zunair to Zarina to bind the wound, Nakame sighed moving her hand down to watch it heal, it looked like a mess, she didn't like seeing it one bit, unfortunately for her, she was next.

As Zunair had stated her too Zarina had once again cut her arm open once again getting a cringe reaction out of Nakame, did he really have to have a live person cut their arms open for this lesson doesn't that hurt like a whole lot, as she tried to remember the hand signs she slowly began to do them, the first time she simply did them wrong, with them in a bit of a jumbled pattern, though not that jumbled, the second time she did it her hands moved slowly in a attempt to make sure she was doing them properly causing her not do them them quite fast enough, which annoyed her, those two attempts taking a good minute, the longer part being during the second attempt, before on the third she had managed to get it, a thread of chakra leaving her hand moving towards Zarina, it wavered a bit in a unstable manner before stabilizing enough to bind the wound yet again. The entire time Nakame was unfortunately forced to just look at it and make sure the jutsu didn't go haywire.

Zunair watched closely at Namake's body language. He could tell she was becoming rather uncomfortable. This is something she is going to have to get used to in the long run. More gruesome and unsightly operations will take place and she will have to be a part of it if she wants to be a medical ninja. She'll learn soon enough. However, more so into her comfortability. It is beginning to reflect in her ability to maintain the jutsu. Slight surges could be seen echoing out through the tethered chakra line. She needs to maintain focus. Not too little, not too much. Those things could cause discrepancy throughout the technique.

The golden-eyed Hyūga was about to cut the jutsu short until it seemed that the red head started to smooth out the jutsu enough to heal the wound. Unlike the jutsu before her, she seemed to struggle a bit to get this one right. She needs more practice developing this technique.

"Hm. Decent enough." Zunair said in a stern like matter. "Moving on to the final lesson today. While the technique's you've learned are about healing your comrades and patients, the next one is utilizing those technique's inwards. There will be times when you are injured but you cannot stop as for you have more pressing matters to attend to. Or even if you're locked in the heat of battle. This will help." Zunair stated as walked over towards the book and turned the pages till it stopped on a page that was titled 'Bodily Restoration'.

Performing the set of hand signs, Zunair could feel the rejuvenating chakra flood his entire system. Not wasting any time, he took up his kunai once again, and proceeded to slash his cheek, arm, and leg. Immediately, Nakame would be able to take notice on Zunair's wound begin to close up rapidly as he walked around the room.

"See. While it is basic. It is also a necessity." He said before he came to a stop beside Zarina on the other side of the table. Looking straight at Nakame, he could feel a small smirk come to fruition. 


"Now, you're turn."

Truthfully the methods certainly made Nakama's entire body cringe to look at, they were horrific in nature at times, but, medical ninjutsu could be horrific in many ways, and she'd need to get used to it, she just didn't know how to toughen herself up, would she be as cold as this man when she grew older and more skilled, she didn't want that for herself. But she also was dead set on the path she had chosen, she wanted to be a medical ninja, even if it was only to effectively live in this hospital. As she looked at Zunair he seemed less then impressed with her ability to do this technique, she thought it was alright for a first try, but oh well. Watching as he had walked across the room towards his book he began to speak about how this next technique would be used for self healing, something she honestly hadn't thought much of, considering how little self healing techniques she's actually seen.

"Something to heal myself... I don't like where this is going..." The girl would simply mumble, knowing what she'd be required to do if she were told to do the technique. Although she was hesitant she watched the man take a simple knife to slice himself a few times, she just watched with facination on how you don't flinch on your own when you leave a cut deep in your flesh, what the hell do they teach you as chunin. Too neglect your body is all she could think when she saw what Chunin were more then fine with doing, watching the man walk back across the room she could visibly see the wounds start to heal after he did some hand signs, made sense. Looked easy enough, but it definitely wouldn't be with all the self doubt she was suddenly feeling now that he said it was her turn.

She half wanted to just not do this one, who would want to cut themselves open just to practice something, perhaps she just needed to not think about it, sighing she just tried to think of a way to do this that would be done while not thinking about doing it, a stupid concept really how could one do something without thinking about it, she didn't even have any ninja tools on her right now, she didn't think she'd need them, sighing her hands weaved a soft pattern before a hand became coated in chakra, a scalpel like incision being made down the length of her arm, she seemed to be trying to keep herself from gagging or throwing up at the thought of cutting herself open by just closing her eyes, though a tear did noticeably stream down her face, it hurt, why wouldn't it.

Now with her arm half way open she attempted to do the hand signs only to struggle due to the arms injuries, perhaps she went too far in cutting into it, but for once she managed to get the hand signs on the first attempt as her arm slowly closed back up, it did unfortunately leave a bloody mess on her hoodie, she hadn't really anticipated that, but for now she just wiped her face with her other sleeve before commenting quietly. "There..."

Zunair looked upon the girl as she showed signs of grimace. He understood how she felt. One of his first lessons was using the chakra scalpel to open a dead cat and the smell was horendous, or when he works in the morgue and has to do autopsy. Those were jobs she was going to have to do, well, maybe not the cat part but the autopsy; especially, if the individual was poisoned.

"I know this is very unfamiliar to you, but I advise to quickly get used to it. The things you will see. Be exposed too, will be a lot worse than just barely cutting yourself and healing that wound. If you need a trashcan, there's one in the corner over there."

Zunair pointed across the room into the corner. The Hyūga spoke nothing but facts, plus how would she learn this technique and how to properly execute it if she didn't practice on herself. Unless she would want the male to cut her up instead, which he would very much oblige to that transaction. Well, it doesn't look like she doesn't know how to properly cut herself. Did the marks Zarina or himself caused their persons go that deep, or bleed out like that? No. It was almost as if she was trying to kill herself. Oh god, now she's crying. Zunair wonders how she would handle herself in a fight. Hope she doesn't expect her river of tears to drown her enemies. Welp, that calls for another lesson from the byakugan user to teach the Uzumaki. To toughen her up. To build her pain tolerance, and apparently get her to be released from her fear of blood.

"Alright, that is good enough for today. If you don't have anything plan, I want you to continue practices these technique's until they basically become muscle memory for you. Tomorrow, meet me in the training fields at the same time. The next lesson we will have to be out in the air to do. Great job, today. You're gonna be great." Zunair said with a warm smile and a thumbs up before her ushering her out of the room and teleporting him and Zarina back to his home.
