Oh, my. The missions were getting more interesting now. Hysterio was assigned to find 5 missing cats from an old woman’s home, and bring them back. Fortunately, the cats were not of the ninja variety, so… yeah, he should not get any serious injuries. Hysterio memorized the pictures of the cats in his mind, and ran into the village from her doorstep.

He wandered the village searching everywhere, as cats tended to be good at hiding when they wanted to. He saw one of the cats up on one of the fences between apartment blocks, and jumped it from behind. He held the cat by the scruff of the neck, turning it away from him so that it could not attack him, and brought it back to the old lady, the cat calming down and glaring at Hysterio as he let go of it.

The next two cats were asleep, it was a simple matter to stuff them into thick sacks and drag them back as well.

The fourth cat was very agile, and seemed to be able to dodge Hysterio’s every move, always managing to stay the same distance away. Hysterio was getting frustrated, after 15 minutes of that dance, he attempted a jutsu he had been trying to learn over the last couple of missions – the Genjutsu Shibari. He waited until the cat looked at him in the eye and then attempted to use his chakra to mess with the cat’s, hopefully keeping it from moving.

It worked. The cat was paralyzed for a moment, but not nearly as long as it should have lasted. Hysterio was still lacking apparently. However, at least Hysterio had gotten a lot closer. He tried again, tossing a rock so that it landed in front of the cat as it tried to run away. The cat shied away from the rock and Hysterio used the Taijutsu version of the Body Flicker to move right in front of the cat, once again attempting to paralyze it with the genjutsu, his eyes meeting that of the cat’s, again. The cat was paralyzed briefly again, for only part of the duration of the genjutsu, but that was more than enough time for Hysterio to grab the cat by the scruff of the neck and begin hauling it away back to its owner.

The genjutsu, he suspected he was just not used to trying to change other people’s chakra flows, nor cats for that matter. He would probably improve with time, so for now he would just keep practicing until he was able to cast the genjutsu successfully, consistently.

The last cat was on top of the training towers. Hysterio was exhausted, having climbed up literally hundreds of flights of stairs to get there. Hacking and wheezing, he slowly approached the cat, which appeared to be laughing at him, having woken up upon his entrance to the roof. Hysterio groaned as the cat approached the edge of the training tower.

Determined to not let the cat suicide rather than be grabbed, Hysterio looked the cat in the eye and attempted the genjutsu again. This time the cat was paralyzed all the way down the training tower, thankfully for Hysterio, the old lady did not mind the two paralyzed cats, as it made everything more… quiet for a time.

His mission complete, Hysterio left to go report back.
