poachers and what not Empty poachers and what not

Mission Link

Seeing as this village seemed in serious need of help, Den decided he would start taking a few more higher ranked missions. He wasn’t feeling up to performing anything actually dangerous though, partially due to the strange condition he seemed to have that caused his appendix to randomly spam and hit his other organs, and the motion of his stomach moving causing him to vomit. So when he found a mission where he just had to deal with simple poachers, Den was fine with that. It paid half decently too, way more than most of the D-rank missions he had performed.

Den decided to bring Natsumi and Hiroko with him on this mission, Hiroko because she seemed interested in how poachers behaved, and Natsumi because if he started to feel ill while in the middle of apprehending the poachers he figured it would be nice to have her around to kill them if needed. Even though Den was ignoring this strange mutation for the most part, he didn’t want to die or anything. He valued his life over the poachers, especially seeing as he wasn’t hunting them down with the intent to kill, so if they attempted to end his life they had what was coming to them. Den would still try to capture them alive, but if he was sick he’d rather Natsumi just kill the bastards than risk her life, Hiroko’s, and his.

Den dressed in his gear for this mission, dawning his black cloak as well. He didn’t know if the poachers would have dogs, or if they’d even respond to another human approaching, but he’d rather not risk it. Both Natsumi and Hiroko were wrapped around his torso, underneath his cloak and hidden for the most part. Den still didn’t feel a need to bring a sword, so both remained in Sanctuary where they couldn’t be stolen. Removing his door from the doorway for a moment so he could pass through, Den put the broken door back on what remained of its hinges so that hopefully anyone walking by would think the door simply closed. Den didn’t keep anything valuable in the apartment but still he didn’t want to see it ransacked when he returned, he had just finished dusting and sweeping yesterday.

With the two female snakes wrapped around his torso, Den quickly headed towards one of the villages walls, thinking it easier to leave the village by going over one rather than simply exiting through the gate/waterfall. Den noticed a few guards look up at him in surprise as he jumped onto the top of the wall 5 meters away from them, but they didn’t move to stop him. Either Taiga had informed them that Den was an ally, or they had managed to sense his chakra and decided it best not to fuck with him. Even though it was likely the former, Den liked to think that the latter would have also stopped them from attempting to assault him as well.

Other than briefly wondering which of the two stopped them from telling him to stop in his tracks, Den ignored the guards and continued over the wall, leaping into the air and away from the village. He felt Hiroko tighten her grip on him beneath his cloak, perhaps afraid she would fall off due to the speed they were moving at.

Den landed on the first branch without making a noise, though the sound of the branch bending beneath the force of his landing was somewhat audible. While Den could control the amount of noise he made for the most part, he couldn’t control a tree enough to make it silent. Even Den’s cloak silently fell back around his form, having been whipped behind him by the wind as he fell towards the forest.

Den took a mental note of his location in relation to the village, and recalled as well the location of each instance these men were caught ‘poaching’ before they managed to flee the scene. Den was east of the village, and if he was correct most of the instances in which poachers were spotted were northeast of the village. So heading on a primarily north, somewhat east vector, Den quickly began to head towards the areas where the poachers were spotted.

Natsumi and Hiroko remained quiet for the most part on the trip, as Den told them he would try and approach this mission stealthily. At least in the sense that he didn’t intend on appearing directly in front of the poachers with no plan and asking them to surrender, he wasn’t sure exactly how many poachers there were or if they had some sort of base of operations, so he didn’t have a concrete plan.

It didn’t take long for Den to smell blood and an abundant number of animals, it seemed that he had found one of the areas where the poachers had been caught in the act and been forced to flee the scene without their prey. Den found what he assumed was the carcass of some animal, though with all of the chunks missing from it he had difficultly identifying more than just the bones of the creature. Maggots were already growing inside the body, and what was left of the meat was rotting. T one with enhanced scenes like Den, the smell was repulsive. He felt the heads of Natsumi and Hiroko move their heads towards Den’s back, away from the smell, they didn’t seem to like it either.

But Den was searching for clues, so he remained for a bit longer. It wasn’t long before he discovered the tracks of the poachers, about 4. One was either really heavy with small feet, or was forced to carry a lot of gear. The other 3 seemed to be about average size, though after he found the tracks from where they started running he noticed that one of them had a much longer stride than the others, and if Den was correct he seemed to have also quickly outdistanced his ‘friends’ when they begin their escape. The one who seemed to have been carrying all of the gear had gone off to a decent start, but more than a few times it seemed that he had stumbled.

In fact Den found a few objects near some of the places he stumbled, a few arrows that may have fallen from a quiver, some wrapper that once contained food before some animal got into it. He also found kunai from the shin obi who had attempted to apprehend them, embedded into trees and dirt around their footsteps.

“Most of these guys were inaccurate as hell.” Den noted quietly, picking a kunai off a tree that was 6 meters away from any footprints he found. He quickly dropped it onto the ground though, hearing a slight thump as the tip of the blade pierced a root.

Den noticed that the quicker poacher went off on his own, and the two seemingly equally fast ones as well. The heavier one seemed to take a sharp right around a corner, perhaps hoping that the shin obi had lost visual on him. Den didn’t think such a strategy would work, as there were apparently 5 shin obi in this squad, so at least one of the must have….. Nope, the pack mule had gotten away because no one had paid attention when he took a different direction in an attempt to lose his pursuers.

Sighing, Den continued to follow the heavier footprints, wondering how long they went. Den was surprised when a few dozen meters latter he found a giant backpack, one that was seemingly full of supplies and even had a quiver poking out of the top. Den reached down to pick it up when he heard a noise. Multiple noises actually. The sound of men a few hundred meters away loudly plowing through the forest, so loud that Den hardly needed his advanced senses to detect them.

“Is that them?” A whisper, apparently Natsumi heard it too.

“what’s them?” Hiroko hadn’t but she had picked up on her sister’s tone and knew to be quiet. Den didn’t answer them, instead performing a hand seal with one hand. Two branches seemed to form from his shoulders, going upwards before turning down, growing towards the ground. They took shapes, a form near identical to that of Denkiteki’s. In mere moments the branches had removed themselves form den and become perfect clones of himself, minus not having snakes wrapped around his torso.

One went to the left of the noise, the other the right. Den quietly jumped up into a tree, making sure to use surface walking to attach himself to the trunk rather than a flimsy branch. Den knew his clones were also hiding, as he had made an assumption as to these men’s purpose of returning before making the clones. They’re here for the backpack.

As the men approached closer Den could also make out voices, angry whispering between 3 men, though he heard the footsteps of four. One seemed to be extremely angry at the man who had been carrying the backpack, as Den made out a few curse words directed at him as well as the words useless, no good, and the man also saying that he shouldn’t have brought his idiot brother. The younger brother seemed to be trying to defend himself by explaining that the backpack was to heavy and he was being chased, while the third man seemed to be trying to get them both to shut or before they get heard. The fourth man, who Den also sensed an unusual amount of chakra from, remained quiet. He was also farther away than the others, seemingly not within their group. Den didn’t have a visual on them yet, but he could hear that they were far apart.

The fourth man was the first to draw close to Den’s position, though fortunately Den was shrouded by a large amount of leaves, and he didn’t believe that the man would spot him even if he looked up. That was when it happened. Den felt a spasm, much worse than most he had been getting as of late. He didn’t puke, but he fell, landing on his side on a branch. He used his right arm to cushion the fall, so that Natsumi and Hiroko wouldn’t be hurt, it gave way and Den nearly fell off the branch. The man heard, and fairly quickly scaled the tree. Den’s back was to him when he managed to reach the same elevation as the former kage, and Den heard the sound of a kunai being removed from a sleeve.

Den tried to make a one handed seal, but a spasm of pain interrupted his concentration and he wasn’t able to do it. Was this the end of him? The man brought the kunai back so that he could bring it crashing down and through Den’s back. As the man brought it down Den wondered how disappointing it would be for his dad to hear he got killed by some weak ass ninja because he was to sick to fight back.

Then Natsumi and Hiroko burst into action. Hiroko moved out of Den’s cloak and made herself clearly visible to ninja, freaking him out as a brightly colored snake revealed itself from Den’s clothes. Natsumi on the other hand, went down Den’s leg and grabbed at the ninja’s leg, wrapping around it and pulling him. The ninja fell, and due to Natsumi not letting go he swung down and slammed headfirst into the tree. There was a loud crash as his skull hit the tree, and shouts from the 3 other men as they heard the sound.

Den was regaining control of his body when he heard his clones finally make a move on the other 3, forcing them to surrender. After interrogating them for a few minutes and reading they’re minds they found the other 3 men were related and the fourth was a missing ninja. So, deciding that it was time to turn the guys in Den and his clones knocked the other 3 men out and dragged them back to the village to get paid.
