There and Back Again. Again. Empty There and Back Again. Again.

Wed Aug 28, 2019 12:53 am
Denkiteki wasn't sure how far he had fallen, or where he was. But man did his back hurt. Granted, when compared to the pain of an 8 year old girl possessed by a dolphin-horse demon smashing your spine against a tree this wasn't bad, but if Den compared all of his pains to the worst ones he'd experienced he'd never get to complain. With a groan Den got into a sitting position, wondering where the hell he could have landed after Sanctuary's collapse. He felt grass beneath him, the air was rather warm. His nose ended up being the most useful of his senses here, he could smell trees and flowers and small animals all around him. So he was in a forest, and thankfully one that didn't seem to have much foot travel from humans. At least, not within 50 meters of Den at least. Wanting to ensure that he was alone the man who once claimed to be a Kage would activate Minds Eye of the Kagura. His chakra sense would move out to 250 meters around him, showing him just about every living thing within the vicinity. Squirrels and rabbits were foraging for food all around him. To his left a couple meters, an army of ants was mobilizing its forces against another. Birds were flying through the air. No shinobi seemed to be nearby.

Spring then, or perhaps summer. Or maybe he was just in some country that was permanently temperate, he didn't know. At least  he hadn't fallen into the middle of a tundra. In this weakened state he was in, he would have actually been at risk of dying if he had been subjected to those conditions. Here, he might survive. But what would he do? He hadn't intended on coming back. He had thought that releasing Kokou would kill him. Was this world not done with him yet, even as broken as he was? Was this place really his home after all, even if the Kirigakure he knew didn't exist anymore, even if everyone he had ever cared about was dead? Perhaps that was the case, but Den hadn't asked for this miracle. What use could a blind fool be to this world?

Blind fool..

Den's thoughts drifted to his left hand, which was still clenched around Toma's... no... Kaim Hyuuga's eye. He could try and implant it, see if he could harness the power of the brother of the Sage of Six Paths. Kokou had told him that the Sage and his brother had been some of the most powerful beings ever to exist, and that those with their bloodlines were often more powerful than a normal shinobi. He already knew that the Uchiha clan's Sharingan was derived form the Sage himself, perhaps he should claim the doujutsu of his brother? No, that would be hubris. To think himself capable of harnessing all of the powers of the gods. If he ever got another opportunity crimson eyes he might consider it, but he wasn't about to alter himself even further than he already had.

Standing up, Den would let the eye fall to the ground. He didn't have anywhere to put it, he'd never developed any easy to use space time techniques for this sort of situation because of Sanctuary. And walking around with an eye in your hand, especially a Hyuuga eye, just seemed like an invitation for trouble. He'd have to find some other way to regain his vision. For now he had other matters to concern himself with, such as the fact that he needed clothes.

Hoping that even without Sanctuary he still had this one power, Den would focus on a village he hadn't been to in a long time. A port village to be exact, in a country where he had met an odd but interesting Kumo ninja. There hadn't been to many, if any, shinobi there last he checked so he hoped he wouldn't run in to much trouble.

A bright white light would appear around Den as he teleported himself to the Fang Country, draining a significant of his chakra as he did so. He appeared just a bit outside the village. Thankfully there wouldn't be anything there for him to accidentally bisect or kill himself with by teleporting in to it. Standing a top a cliff overlooking the port, Den silently laughed at himself as he couldn't appreciate the view and actually didn't know how close he was to the edge. He was going to have to plan these teleportations with his current predicament in mind.

For how long he had been travelling, the blond Tau was unable to answer with certainty, the only thing he would be able to say for sure was that he had been travelling for “the longest time”. He did, however, make good progress. Even as a Tau, lacking any muscle or bone, his black tendrils instinctively formed powerful thighs for the Tau to walk with, and by all the gods, old and new, did he walk. Now in the Moon Country, off the Snow Country, the more temperate climate allowed respite: Kaworu even healing the scabs and cuts in his hands formed when the low temperatures dried and cracked the skin open. He had met some gigantically formed fellas over there, it was entertaining to see how someone could’ve grown so tall and strong in such a cold and desolate environment, but there they were, enduring the cold without sleeves, their arms almost as big as his thorax. He had shared sake with them, and they liked it.

But, now, he would need even more to visit the Moon Country. Ingredients for his apothecary recipes and his mulled sake recipes could be found almost around all of the world, but it would sometimes require him to travel. Today, he came looking for star anise, usually extremely expensive due to how rare it was abroad, relatively cheap in the Moon Country, but otherwise free… if you knew where to find them. Luckily, the old lady Kaworu learned from had taught him the best spots where to find the multiple ingredients one might need, and he expanded on that listing when he took the profession for himself. And today, he would find Illicium verum trees, where star anise grew, so he could bring flavor into his mulled sake.

As he approached a nice section of the forest, a bright light could be seen shining through the trees, a very difficult thing to be seen since the forest was dense, but it was bright enough to be detected by Kaworu. It wouldn’t be weird to see a light during the day, however, it was night right now, and sudden bursts of light weren’t supposed to be common. Some people claimed bursts of light took them from their fields and into metallic cylinders in the skies, but those stories were too weird even for Kaworu. Still, the blonde felt like investigating.

He walked for a few minutes, trying to find the source of the light, however, he saw nothing. The ground looked at him, and he looked at the ground. A cold sweat covered his entire body and he almost shouted, the ground was literally looking at him: a disembodied eye on the floor stared upwards at the Tau, and he almost didn’t recognize it as an eye due to the beautiful shade of lavender, making it an almost entirely marble-y ball of goo. Kaworu carefully knelt in front of it, and hesitantly picked it up. As he looked at it, his medical training came in handy, as he realized what kind of eye he was looking at: it was a human eye, but more specifically, the eye of a Hyuuga. A Byakugan, to be precise.

Feeling it gently, it wasn’t cold, and not even dirty, so it must’ve been left here recently by the shining light. Tearing through the palm of his hands, his tendrils cupped the eye and collected it inside of his body, travelling up his arm, and getting closer to his internal organs, being connected to his system to be kept fresh. He wasn’t, however, able to connect the optical nerves, and as such he wouldn’t be able to use it in any way. “Maybe one day I’ll be able to use this in any other way.” He turned back, and resumed his hunt for star anise.
