Komon Hyuuga vs Asuma

Asuma nodded.

Words would have sullied the moment beyond repair. He nodded, took one last drag on his cigarette, and flicked the butt into a fast-growing puddle to his left. Like tears of joy, the rain once more began to trickle from the sky in fits and starts. There was nothing more that need be said between the two honorable shinobi.

Following Komon's directions with long strides, Asuma took his first steps towards home. However, somewhere between his tenth and eleventh stride, something strange happened. His thoughts, which had rested on Kurenai, became muddled and incoherent. In his mind's eye, he saw a spiky-haired youth with eyes of red and bangs of black, Mirai Sarutobi. Then, nothing, nothing at all save for the cool familiar embrace of the abyss. If Komon stayed to watch Asuma leave he would be forced to watch the man fade from existence like a memory of days long past until it was as if the man had never existed in the first place.

For Asuma Sarutobi, the fight was over.

He would never make it home.
