There was a very, very interesting aspect to jutsu, a certain kind that was inexplicable and amazing. The ability to control space and time was a fascinating one, an idea that had enraptured Roku since he had first learned of them from his mother’s particular way of storing her puppets along with all kinds of supplies they could not continually carry; it was like the woman was pulling them out of thin air, creating whole somethings where once was absolutely nothing. This was explained away with talk of pocket dimensions, realities that were just pockets compared to the one shinobi lived on, but even the explanation had intrigued the young child.
What Roku sought to figure out now was not the same technique, but some way to make himself even faster than he had before. It was reasonable to practice with the time he had to spare because it was inevitable that something terrible would happen soon, and the boy was well aware that without much durability, he would need to become exceptionally quicker than he was at present.
He needed speed through the manipulation of reality itself, of course.
It must be done through either changing space around his body, which sounded dangerous, or changing his status with regard to time. The latter did not sound as though it could end in too horrible a fashion unless he was powerful enough to age himself very much, which seemed implausible. If people had figured out aging that quickly, there would be much more notice, or such a thing seemed reasonable to infer.
The boy started by throwing together seals and deciding what felt most conducive to his chakra flowing properly, and after that he began meditating on how to change his flow of time to bring himself more velocity. Clearly, he had to be either faster in time or slower in time than everyone else. But if time passed faster around him, everyone else would be made faster by virtue of the ninja’s lack of keeping up, so to speak.
Slowing down time around his own body… That seemed somehow feasible.
Chakra began to exude from his form, hazy and hardly visible; in fact, it was not meant to be seen at all in the proper context of the jutsu, but that was the point of practice. It had began attaching itself to the hypersurface of the present, and attempting to weigh it down in a strange metaphysical way because time has no concept of gravity or weight given its immaterial nature. ANd everything around Roku became peculiar to perceive. It was like the world had sharpened, changed to a higher resolution. Or that he had only just found a way to see the truer fineness of his existence. What made it truly disorienting is that it was only a partial effect, leaving some parts to stay less than optimal.
And so he spilled his lunch and dropped what figment of a jutsu he had.
As most setbacks, it was very temporary for the boy. Stomach still burning and rolling, he threw the hand seals back together and tried again without fifteen seconds to recover. If the head injury had been no excuse, this certainly was not close. This attempt was with much more oomph, a shroud of blue enveloping the boy before winking out as though it had never existed, and from an objective point of view, it would appear that the small figure was a hazy blur. Taking his mind off the full efort of the technique resulted in a lapse, shorting out the shroud of time manipulation as it existed around him. Roku, unprepared for the utter end to the rather intense perception warping effect, almost fell into his own vomit as his head swam like a great white shark on the hunt. That is to say, fiercely. When his balance had returned in full, a few meters were put in between himself and his discarded meal before he gave it another shot.
There were a few easily diagnosed issues with what he had been working with, starting with the hand seals he had been utilizing. Originally, his idea had been for Rat, Boar, and Tiger, but it appeared that the Tiger seal offset the exact qualities the energy would need to uphold the jutsu; it was causing the chakra to rush out too intensely and leaving it unable to self sustain the desired effect. Rat and Boar, though, they made sense to be on the right track. It would help him meld the chakra into time and then metaphorically weigh it down.
With that part out of mind, the thoughtful child turned his perpetually moving mind to the way he was actually controlling the chakra as it exited his body. Quite unsurprisingly, it was difficult o maintain the constant stream outward, and it did make sense that the energy would have to remain attached to the universe on its own power in order to produce the lasting changes that would be necessary for any kind of combat application, or even any practical use at all. But if he pushed out so much and it all stayed in its own system, slowly burnt out to power the jutsu, while sticking itself to the flow of time around him and slowing his own flow, he would be essentially moving through it faster with a cloak that did not rely on his constant fueling.
On what would be the final attempt t the jutsu, Roku slowly formed the seals deemed necessary thus far, and followed through exactly what had been anticipated as the successful method. Without so much as a flicker of raw chakra on the outside of his form, the haze set in place around him, and the world came into the same whole clarity it had beforehand. A swift leap into the nearby tree tops demonstrated a remarkable differece in his former movement and current potential. What wildlife he saw hinted at another remarkable improvement deduced by what appeared to be a change in their movement.
The jutsu made him see even faster, for lack of proper terminology, than he had expected.
Now it was a true delight. Not a world shaking jutsu, but exactly the kind of thing he was looking for; a good way to get the hell away from whatever danger sought him.
