Practice and a test

Shinoskay had heard of a few Konoha ninja leaving, apparently most of them left in broad daylight and through the front gate. It wasnt a widely spread rumor, and the details were pretty hush hush, made sense considering no one wanted to encourage the behavior. In fact, most of these rumors mentioned how the deserters were all pretty much stopped, though no details were available on how or who.

Shinoskay took these rumors though, and mulled over them... always mulling over things, he would.

He became curious over how well secure the Village gates were, how many counter measures had the village put in place to make sure to not only secure the village from invasion but from spies or domestic threats like these deserters. Readers shouldnt misunderstand this, by the way, he didnt actually care that someone had deserted as he was still on the fence about his permenant placement in Konoha. He wanted to fit in, be accepted, and make his place in the Shinobi world but he felt like he was always ready to leave because the village was already once over invaded. He chose them for there values but now that they where the territory of another village, reaped of what ever remained of their treasures, the upcoming chuuning exams could be different from traditional Konoha exams... The new village dominators could dictate it would be like there own... a blood game...

Sure, a blood sport made a certain amount of sense for the shinobi world but he didnt want to die... he didnt want to face down a fellow genin who felt like if they didnt kill him then they would be killed instead... the stress, the despair... the chaos... if he discovered that this was what he would be facing, he felt like it would be better to leave and try his luck elsewhere.

This wasnt why he wanted to test the gates, granted it would be good knowledge if he did decide to leave and so it was probably somewhere in his subconscious. However, his active thought was that he wanted to learn more about what held back the others that left and how well secure the village was from invasion. If there was need for improvement, it could be to his benefit to be part of that improvement... this would, also, serve to better allow him to know how to leave of course.... but again, that was more a subconscious concern.

Shinoskay started by walking along any road or path on the inner side of the wall, closest to the wall, in his mind he would be patrolling the inner side of the wall. He would observe anything that fell within his line of site as he made his way through... From shifting around bushes to see how dense they were, if one could hide in them or not, how plausible some spontaneously grown bush would go overlooked or if one could hide inside any of the present brush. any buildings near the wall, how high or low the rooftops were, even going so far as to jump on top of them to get a direct view from the roof top to the wall. He would stop at the inner part of each gate, watching any traffic in or out of the gate for a solid ten or so minutes. Finally he would tap, periodically, along the wall to test density and material... as well as to investigate any cracks or apparent wear in the wall.

It pleased him to see the path he took was relatively clear of bushes, there wasnt any brush a person could naturally hide in and as such any sudden or spontaneous new bushes would likely stand out. He took a mental note to try and place a few fake bushes to see how any patrol would react to them. He also enjoyed how well maintained the wall was, overall, though the density was strange and the walls material itself felt and smelled like some kind of mixture between clay and what may possibly be lead.

The roof tops, however, seemed curious, the village was designed for shinobi to travel around the roof top, fashioned much like an urban forest, to allow one ease of travel around the village whether going up, down, or across any of the buildings. the windows had sturdy ledging above them, you could just as easily land on them as you could stand on them while the roof wasnt so much shingle as it was more a platform so that a loose shingle wouldnt give way under a shinobi even if the ninja was using something like surface walking technique. Perhaps he could suggest something to help with the roof top security here, it certainly was something to think about. It wouldnt be so easy to jump from the roof top to the wall though, sure the buildings were some two or three stories but then the wall was well up some five stories and the color used allowed almost any point on the roof tops, or from another point on the wall to notice a person jumping from the roof tops to onto the wall.

As a final test, there was now the concern of under ground... Shinoskay had started practicing more earth style jutsu so he was developing his understanding of that which all things existed upon so he knew just under our feet existed a whole extra ocean and skies worth, combined, of space to be used. The fact that the earth held the ocean further was testament to just how much earth there was available and what someone can use it for. For instance, Hiding like a mole technique, a recent practice of his, allowed one to slowly sink into the earth and move through it omni directional so long as there was earth to move through.

Shinoskay took a few breaths to brace himself before, he had made a full route around the village and the brisk walk, not to mention all the searching around, had left his system quite clear but he needed to amp hismelf up so he would have his wits about him if his test was passed. First, he would take one more glance around him to scan the area for anyone watching... since he had been actively looking around he would see anyone who had been following him in his erratic movements around the wall and then to where he was and in his glance around he would also see whoever was actively watching him now. While standing a few houses away, towards inside of Konoha, the young boy would slowly begin to sink into the earth, his concentration intent on focusing the chakra around himself to fuse and infuse it with the earth so that it would give way for him almost as easily as water would while at the same time moving him in the direction he wanted to go rather then just perpetually sinking into the earth.

His natural element was earth, and so the concept came relatively easily to him, and before long he had sunk down into the soil, obscured by been further into the village. With that, he would consider any suspicious activity and begin to once more skirt his way around the whole wall. He had made sure to sink all the way, the the point that he was completely submerged underground, before moving in any direction. Further, as he moved along, he would slowly sink himself till he had passed another few few downward. He could gauge how deep he was through the sensory aspect of the jutsu as he could feel, through his chakra, how far above him the buildings where as his chakra reached up and around him. He took note of this as well, that his chakra was spreading so far out from his location. He knew there were those who could see through objects and then there were those who could just sense chakra, and finally further more the great village of earth had fallen and this was one of there iconic jutsu so it was likely that shinobi had some other means even still to sense someone conducting themselves in this manner.... another mystery he wanted answers to.

As previously mentioned, the boy made his way around the wall once more, this time focusing more on the ground aspects as well as what he could sense while underground. It was interesting to sense things in this way and he felt if he was going to become a better shinobi then he would need to expand on this ability but also to simultaneously develop a means to counter it so that he couldnt be sensed. That must be what most shinobi strive for, or he hoped anyways, to be able to achieve mastery and greater proficiency in something over his peers and opponents while also becoming immune more so then the same. Conceal, yet see past concealment, it was as basic as two plus two but then he was already so late in the game on so, so, so many levels. There were even great clans and houses that went so far as to even develop inherent genetic abilities to enhance their prowess at such feats while others just hyper specialized in forms of jutsu. He was some nobody orphan who had just entered into the world of Ninjutsu so if he was going to even become proficient let alone superior in anything then he would need to work hard, harder, then anyone else.

His scan around the wall revealed nothing new, he had a small idea of how deep the walls went but it almost seemed to seamlessly turn from wall to the rest of the great earth, at least through his presented, limited, sensory abilities. Nothing was different about the path he took around the inner side of the wall from shrubs or buildings but he did notice someone else was walking along the trail now. They didnt stay within his sensory range for long but for at least a moment he could 'see' that someone else was walking along the path with more intent then just enjoying the path based on the slightly erratic movements they made. He probably drew some attention, but that was fine, it just showed that the walls security was likely doing there job so at least that was a successful test.

It now came time for the last test, Shinoskay would sink further down into the earth, while directing his facing towards the outside of the village, until he could no longer sense the surface. He figured, and hoped, that if he went deep enough that he couldnt sense anything on the surface with his chakra then his chakra so too wouldnt be able to be sensed from the surface... that it would bleed out into the earth as per the jutsu but then would stop or become absorbed by the earth before it reached the surface... but then his understanding of chakra was still limited so who knows.

For good measures, he went deeper still for a few minutes even after he could no longer sense the earth surface. He was slightly worried about his facing as this would be important for been able to make it past the wall. He had a small recollection of how far out the clearing beyond the wall was so he had a small idea that at the least he needed to clear that before he even thought about surfacing so that he wouldnt just pop up in that clearing and get caught right away.

It wasnt his intentions to leave after that... he wasnt going rogue... he intended to return the way he left, if this worked, and only wanted to see if he would get stopped on his way out.... or even on his way back in. If he could pull this off then it would present a huge security risk for the village because then basically anyone could just slip into the village through the ground. He had hoped this was already considered, but who knew what state the village was in since it was invaded.

If he wasnt interrupted then he will slowly pass through the soil to outside the village... past the wall... past the clearing.... and out a little past the forest that sorrounds the village till he is about 100 meters into the forest... once there, he will leave the soil and look around... wait for about 10 minutes... and if he sees no one... or no one shows up... then he will sink back into the earth and make his way back into the village the same way he left it.

Now fully standing in Konoha without interruption was disappointing, people were eager to rush in and catch others sneaking into the kage's office and other people when they left the village but not Shinoskay who just proved he was able to not only sneak out of the village but then he was able to sneak right back into it again without getting stopped. What if he had chosen to just keep going when he was out? what if he chose to leave right this moment? What if someone else decided to sneak in?

Clearly, the boy now needed to decide what he was going to do with this new information. Choices, choices.
