Komon and The Chidori Katana Empty Komon and The Chidori Katana

Tue Dec 27, 2016 3:11 am
Komon’s sword glistened in the moonlight his reflection peering off of it, as he looked into the reflection he saw a broken version of himself. he had just finished his first hand to hand combat exam and he had suffered heavily in it. His towering opponent had dislocated both of his arm’s and claimed to have killed Jiyo because of him, a woman had suffered because of his arrogance and a man’s need to teach Komon a lesson. Of course the lesson was effective. Komon would never step foot in that library again… after what he had done to that place he didn’t deserve it. Komon couldn’t even avenge her death, all he had gotten on the man was a single kick that Komon had suspected the man had let him land. Komon had never felt more hopeless in a fight in his entire life. He never wanted to be in a situation like that again, Komon relied on control and order, in all honesty he was envious of the man, he had beaten Komon almost effortlessly. The man demanded a form of obedience, albeit in a way Komon strongly disagreed with and resented. But it was effective, and seemed to keep Kumogakure safe. So Komon would respond to this by training even harder than before, it’s what Jiyo would have wanted, she had always supported Komon in his shinobi training and wanted to see him become strong. Komon would honor her memory by doing just that.

“I’m sorry Jiyo...” He thought to himself as he looked back to his reflection on the sword, before standing up to face himself and the new day ahead of him.

Komon knew what he wanted to learn, he had proven himself ineffective in close combat and wanted to master more techniques, he knew not many situation would rely solely on hand to hand combat, but that in most close range combat situations he would be able to use his sword. Komon wanted to find a way to bring his ninjutsu skills into play in close combat and felt he could do that by combining both his lightning chakra and his Kenjutsu. With that in mind he reached for the katana in front of him placed on two metal rods sticking out about an inch from the wall parallel to the floor. As he gripped his hand around the base of the sword he picked it up into the air and placed it into the sheath on his back.

After the sword was in its right position Komon walked to the front door of his room and opened it so that he would find himself in the hallway before traveling downstairs and to the front room of his apartment. The door was wooden and masterfully made, Komon often wondered how his parent’s had afforded it along with the rest of the apartment in all honesty, but he would then remembered they were high ranking ninja and paid well for their services to the village. Finishing his line of thought he saw nothing more to do than to open the wooden door, gripping his hand out to do so he peered into the streets of the village hidden in the clouds to check the weather. The sun was shining brightly and the weather was a little hot but not by too much, it was a perfect time to train.

Komon began his journey to the training ground’s that he had taken so many times before in the past, Komon had recently sought medical attention for his injuries in his exam, but the arms still ached, he was hoping that his kenjutsu training would help them to get back to their former strength. Curious to how much they still hurt Komon stretched his arms above his head as he was walking feeling a sharp pain in his right shoulder as he did so. He quickly yanked his right arm back down while using the left to grasp and comfort the right shoulder. Komon wasn’t fond of his arm’s newfound softness and wanted this weakness to go away as soon as possible. He was no doctor but figured working them out couldn’t be anything but beneficial.

As he continued walking the training grounds began to come into view, he could see the training dummy’s lined up in the grass, and a thought flashed to the front of his mind. “Those will be perfect for kenjutsu training” As he drew his sword from its sheath, while walking onto the grass field. Komon had spent a lot of time on this field training ninjutsu, he had never once practiced his swordsmanship since abandoning it to study ninjutsu long ago with Gorami’s help. He thought back to how he had wanted to learn ninjutsu so badly he had completely neglected his swordsmanship. The thought made him cringe… How dumb had he been in the past, today he would make up for it however by combining the two techniques both kenjutsu and ninjutsu.

But first I have to pick up some practice with my sword, and get a feel for it like I used to have” Komon thought to himself as he neared the dummys. Komon had gotten decently strong in his now almost year of training. He figured he should be strong enough to slice a wooden dummy in half with a metal sword and was about to put the theory into action. Komon gave a wide swing with his right arm, his right arm was his main hand and the one he had the most skill in, which allowed him to strike with precision at the dummy’s neck. He was caught by surprise when the sword failed to pierce it however, this confused Komon, he had shattered trees with his hands yet he couldn’t slice a wooden dummies head off with a sword.

What the hell?”
Komon thought this was odd and pulled his sword out of the dummies now partially pierced neck. He had cleared about a fourth of the neck with his strike which left ¾ of the wood left to be destroyed. Komon was hell bent on breaking this neck before he advanced into training the next phase of training for his new technique so he raised the sword again this time striking from the left hoping to meet the cut from the unpierced side. He watched the metal blade pierce into the wood only to be stopped at about the same distance as his last strike. He now had two even length cuts on each side with about a 3 inch gap of wood between them. Komon frowned as he pulled his blade out once more and put it into his sheath. His next hit had to hit in between a strike he had already made and he was way more worked up about this than he should be. His last fight had left him wild and irritable, he was having a hard time keeping his focus and breathing on track.

So he took a minute and sat in the grass indian style, he then began to breath inwards slowing his breath and listening to the sound of nature around him. The hidden cloud was home to many species of birds and they all seemed to be talking today, he could hear their chirps throughout the woods, this sound calmed him and allowed him to center himself. He couldn’t help but notice his chidori technique made a very similar sound as well and decided to tuck that information away in case he ever needed to calm himself mid combat. Confident in his ability to keep his focus and breathing steady komon placed his hands against the ground as he unfolded his legs and stood back up with his feet planted firmly on the ground facing his target.

Komon drew his sword while keeping his eyes on the two slots he had created with his prior slashes, accuracy and momentum would be the most important factor in making this sword slash through twice the length of wood it had done in the past two attempts. But he was determined to make this next strike count. He took ten steps back ensuring that he would have a running start to afford him some extra force. With determination in his eyes he pushed off the dirt sprinting forward towards the dummy as it got closer and closer to his blade. He could see the slot and began to predict the swing trajectory and path he would have to create as he dashed forward.

He timed the swing to happen about 2 seconds before he came into range spinning as he did so to give it the maximum amount of momentum he possibly could before sliding it flawlessly into the gap he had already created with his prior strike. This time he watched his sword splinter through the wood crashing into it and slow down slightly almost to a stop as it went clean through the wooden dummies neck and thus decapitated it. While Komon was happy with the result he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder as he finished his swing and was beginning to worry about this energy. He only had a week until his next chuunin exam and odds where it was going to involve combat. If his injury hadn’t healed by then he was concerned about his overall ability to fight with it.

Shaking his head of the troublesome thought he decided that it was ridiculous to worry about such a thing so early on. He had a whole 7 days to heal after all, “Well more like 6” Komon thought to himself as he saw that the sun was beginning to set. The time of day meant nothing towards his training however as Komon would actually prefer it to be dark for his next part of the training, it would make it much easier to see his results. Komon wanted to learn how to infuse his chidori and his kenjutsu together. He had read about it a couple weeks ago in the library and figured it would be an easy enough jutsu to master without the book as he already knew both chidori and chakra infusion from his training with gorami.

Komon decided to start the training by just using the chakra infusion he had already learned to slash a dummy in half and raised his sword once more this time stepping to the side and activating his byakugan. He knew his technique would be invisible to the naked eye, as base chakra often was.. Just like in his 64 palms techniques. So it was a good thing he had byakugan, a technique that could see even the most faint glow of chakra. “Byakugan” He thought to himself while not saying it aloud, remembering how his opponent had mocked him in his exam, and learning from it.

With his byakugan he could see the chakra manifesting in his palm as he began to activate his chakra infusion technique, and then watched it slowly creep onto the handle of the blade as it continued to spread until the chakra had completely enveloped the blade. This technique increased his blades effectiveness in combat and Komon planned to use it to slice the new dummies head off with more ease than his last attempt with no chakra.

With a bit more confidence than when he had started he aimed his chakra enhanced blade at his new target, the second wooden dummies neck. As he stood in front of it his blade formed a wide half circle before hacking into its wooden surface. Komon was met with surprise however when the thick wood prevented him from being able to cut through the entirety of the wood with even his chakra infusion. The village hidden in the clouds built reliable training dummies that were apparently more durable than trees and it was beginning to show against Komons attacks, he had only made it halfway through the wood which in comparison to the fourth of the wood he had made with a normal blade was definitely an improvement, was still not what he wanted.

Slightly frustrated Komon swiftly exacted vengeance on the other half of the dummies throat by pulling his sword out and sending a symmetrical strike to the left as well, this caused the head to pop off and wobble on the ground making a distinctive thud. As Komon could tell chakra infusion was significantly more powerful than his normal blade, but what if he added lightning. Komon knew the technique existed but he had no idea how much it would help him. However wanting to topple a dummy's head in one strike he figured it would be a good option.

He remembered that the technique was a B rank which meant it wouldn’t be particularly easy to learn. So he knew striking the dummy at the moment was not the priority, keeping that in mind Komon moved to the center of the grass field he had been training on and raised his sword with his byakugan still active to inspect it. Chakra Infusion was an essential part of the technique so Komon began to pour his chakra into the blade like he had been trained to do. This part came easy to him, as he had already learned it.

The challenging part however came next. Komon had no idea how to incorporate his lightning chakra into chakra infusion, he knew Gorami had been capable of doing it with wind nature, but had never asked how. Base chakra was much easier to manipulate than Komon’s lightning nature so this part would take some improvisation on Komons part. Frustrated at his lack of progress Komon put his blade back in its sheath before raising his hands and slamming them together.

He was beginning to weave the eleven signs for the chidori technique, his reason for doing so was that he figured if with his byakugan active he could the flow of his lightning chakra it would be much easier to manipulate with his chakra infusion in the future. All this was in theory of course and the only way to find out was to actually do it. So Komon weaved the final sign of the chidori technique, The monkey seal. And watched as lightning surged forward from his elbow bouncing erratically from vein to vein. The lightning didn’t seem to care about a path as long as it reached a destination, this would make Komon’s goal of manipulating it much easier as he wouldn’t have to plot an extremely specific course in his mind.

With a new understanding of the technique Komon let his most powerful ninjutsu fade back into nothing until his palm was empty. Then he used that same palm to pick his sword back up this time surfing the lightning forward without weaving signs letting it blast from the center of his chest to the handle but was quite literally shocked, when his lightning hit the metal blade of his katana he suffered an electrocution by his own hand. He had not maintained control of his chakra which was a vital part of chakra infusion, he had focused to much on the aspect of chidori and not enough on infusion.

Komon took a second to pat down his hair and put it back into place, as his unintentional attack on himself had made it stand up. After doing so he pulled himself back onto his feet and grabbed his katana. This time the technique would work, Komon carefully called forth his lightning chakra paying special attention to the amount he was applying so that he wouldn’t electrocute himself and had the lightning hover just above the metal so that it made no contact with the blade, this kept it from backfiring and allowed him a more stable control of the jutsu. Curious to see if you could see the chakra without byakugan Komon deactivated his.

He was hardly surprised when he saw electricity jolting off his blade, it made the sound of his chidori like birds chirping in the wind, which let Komon know his technique had succeeded. Komon had just learned the Chidori Katana technique created long ago by a legendary shinobi. But learning it wasn’t enough… Komon wanted to see it in action, and the poor wooden dummies were waiting for him. Komon imagined if they had voices they’d be begging for their wooden lives right about now as he began walking towards them menacingly.

Komon was now within 10 feet of the wooden dummy and stuck his arm that was holding the katana parallel to the floor pointing the sword outwards as he walked. When he reached 5 feet he began to swing the sword straight at the dummies throat like he had done so, so many times before today. As he watched the blade crash through the wood and pierce its way to the other side he could easily notice the difference as it seemed to swipe through the entire thing like a knife through butter. The sword made a clean cut and a third dummy was decapitated. Its head joined it’s two friends on the grass ground beneath them.

Komon was excited to see his katana cut through the tough target so easily and wanted to see if it could do the same with the same dummies torso which was about 3 times as wide as the neck. So when his sword passed through the neck komon quickly used the momentum to turn it striking at the dummies torso on the same side he had crushed through the poor things neck and his blade made it about halfway through the things torso. The technique definitely increased Komons effectiveness with a blade that was for sure.

Komon spent the rest of the day trying to figure out how to unwedge his blade from the dummies torso as he had hit it with quite a bit of force, the thing wouldn’t budge until Komon used his chidori to shatter the dummy to pieces and picked his sword up from the rubble. Once more satisfied with his training he headed home to get a good night's rest.
