Mission specs::

Ryusei set off on his first mission in a long time, perhaps the first he could remember. It was simple, really, all he had to do was follow a dog that looked rather distressed, and see why, what the matter was.

It seemed the only reason this was a mission, perhaps instead of a polite request, was that the Hokage got tired of hearing the dog outside barking loudly and whining, attempting to bury its face into everyone who came in or out of the office, occasionally gently tugging on someone’s clothing in a certain direction (always the same one). It was smart enough to try using the big soulful puppy dog eyes, on anything female, getting its nose scratched by a cat once. This looked cute at first but by the third day, was getting a little annoying, as people would occasionally feed the dog, encouraging it. Of course, nobody could be bothered to see if the dog was up to anything, so this task was delegated to a genin who could not really complain, since the pay was fairly good for this kind of mission.

The dog set off through the village, starting to run at top speed, Ryusei scrambling to keep up. Several times, the dog would pause, sniffing at the ground, and Ryusei would hurriedly catch up, gasping for breath. This dog was pretty fast and large too. He wondered what it was that the dog wanted. Eventually the dog picked up the pace, barely stopping, running through the convoluted alleys of the village. Ryusei followed as best he could, stumbling over boxes, or leftover timber. A couple of times, he fell, one time face down in the mud. Each time, he would groan, getting up, wiping himself off, and looking around for paw prints to follow. Fortunately, the dog would notice, about 20 meters or so after he fell, and would turn around and come back, poking or sniffing at him, sometimes wagging its tail.

Eventually, the dog burst out of the village gates, Ryusei in hot pursuit. He yelled to the guards that he was on a mission and would be right back, barely audible over the guard’s laughter. The guards paid no mind to his struggle, and waved him through, the dog disappearing into the forest already. Ryusei ran as fast as he could, and eventually nearly ran into the dog. The dog was barking loudly, making it easy to find it, and was standing on the edge of a small clearing. Ryusei ran into the well that was just behind the dog he successfully avoided.

“Woah!”

He grabbed the edge, and caught himself before he could fall, and got a good view of why the dog was so insistent before. A boy was slumped in the bottom of the well, which fortunately was dry. The well was a little tight and it would be hard for a civilian to climb out of there, since it was a little slippery. Ryusei clambered down, and checked the kid. The kid still had a slight pulse and a shallow breath, so he would not have to head to the morgue. He breathed a sigh of relief, it appeared that the kid had been looking for water, and had fell into the well. Unfortunately he had no water on him, or he would give some to the kid. At least he could get the boy out of there and into a hospital.

Ryusei used his tree climbing technique, and a kunai, to haul himself up the side of the well, using his free hand to hold on to the kid. He had a slight struggle at the top, attempting to hoist the kid over the side. After that it was a quick jog to the village hospital, with the kid slung over his shoulder.

When the kid was safe he left to report back to the Hokage that the dog would probably not bug anyone else for the time being.
