As they turned into a dark, suspicious looking alley, Isaribi found herself remarkably unwilling to answer Toran's next probing question. He really had to go straight for the jugular, didn't he? She pointedly avoided eye contact with him as they passed a dumpster, and she covertly dropped the bag next to it. In about two or three minutes, the guy who looked ostensibly homeless would cross the street, pick up the bag, and bring it to whoever needed it. It was just the way things worked. Trust was the basis of networks like these. When the system failed people, when normal structures couldn't hold up the ones who needed it the most, trust had to do.

For a brief moment, she once again considered whistling some agony directly into Toran's fucking skull. It was only a flash of rage, but she couldn't deny that directionless anger like that was still something she was capable of. There, then gone in a fraction of a second, replaced by a sudden exhaustion. Was this why teachers always looked like they had been dragged through a fucking gauntlet? Was it because they had to deal with these newfrog gremlins all the goddamn time? it kind of made sense to her.

"You could ask", she began, brusquely, "but you won't." And she would leave it at that, making it clear that it was something she did not want to discuss. At all. She was tempted to ask him if he ever got outside much, but resisted once again. Had his experience been the kind that he wanted to talk about? After what he'd just said, she wasn't sure of the answer anymore, and she wasn't sure she wanted to find out. It didn't take much for her to figure out that the various stages of the sharingan awakened from trauma, more closely associated with the loss of loved ones.

As for her being a shinobi, well, she pointedly ignored that question as well. If it wasn't fucking obvious what she meant by "in the force", it wasn't worth addressing at all. Man, and here she thought SHE was stupid. Mood soured, she moved from the other side of the alley onto another large street.

"Listen, kid, my ocular prowess works in ways I didn't really expect it to, you know what I'm saying? I guess it fits me pretty well, but it took a while to get used to, and using it in the first place brings back bad memories."

Toran stood there, waiting for a moment with his questions probing her into telling him something, anything about her experience with them. It was that calling, the kind to relate to someone. He felt alone, in the darkness with these eyes constantly shrouded in mystery, the only person he had for reference was Isemori, who had disappeared it seemed from the world itself. It made him not even notice that she had dropped the bag, his eyes directly focused on the forward end houses beginning to blot out the candles along their porches. Some of them still use that over the electricity that Hoshigakure had run through the village. He thought that the village had done somewhat well after the attack, people and things were beginning to get back to normal. He awaited anything of an answer, it was meant to be a clue into what these eyes were. The name of the eyes that it seemed no one would know about or talk with him about. Yet again, he was met with only that he dare not talk about the eyes. Just like his father, just like his mother. No, he couldn’t expect anyone to know besides anyone who was higher up within the village. They’d give him the answer, he’d simply have to go ask them about what these eyes were, and how he could use them to help the village.

Toran didn’t get confirmation on her being a shinobi, assuming that she was a part of the force based on the answer, he could only continue to walk with her for a moment. Right as they were about to hit the center of the village. The brisk winds hit him once again as the festivities were beginning to be set up all around. Massive flags and banners hung around the walls, paper spherical lanterns hung along tapered ribbons strewn across shops and sales carts shaded with the moon and fire’s light. It was here when the two would begin to separate, Toran turned his head towards her as he kept on walking back. His eyes focused dead on her for a moment, hearing how she explained her own ocular powers towards him. Giving him at least somewhat of a clear answer that it was probably not similar to his in any way. Yet referring to him as simply a child, when both of them have killed for some reason or another. It spoke volumes of how far he needed to go.

“I understand. Mine worked in some way that I couldn’t even begin to describe. Bad memories… Understood. I’m sorry.”

Burning, the smell of smoke. Fire, hitting his eyes in a blazing inferno. Flowing, his blood tainting his sight as he had passed out after using it the first time. Yet it was here when he had noticed she had somehow dropped the bag… Turning his head back towards where they had walked, before his eyes retained their gaze upon her. Only for a moment, his eyes bore back towards her, before closing and giving a small wave.

“It was… nice to meet a fellow Uchiha Isaribi-San. I hope to see you again.”
