Nature's Pastime

Today was the day of the Fishing Tournament that was held for the village to bring everyone together and this year it seemed they were allowing visitors to enter which was uncommon but it just meant that more people could compete and Shin was more then excited for the opportunity to face more people in any kind of competition even if it is just seeing what you catch on your hook.

Some people chose to charter boats to go out farther into the ocean and the rest just fished off the shore to see what they could get lucky with and that was what Shin was going to do starting out since he was joining into this competition later then everyone else. Shin blamed his own desire to continue his training over joining in stuff that the village did together, he did wonder if he siblings would join the tournament and if they did it just meant that he needed to do better then them and if they didn’t join he just needed to show he did better then everyone else, so he made his way to his favorite place to fish from which was just by a outcrop that after some climbing would bring you to a nice little spot to sit and wait for a nice little bite.

Shin put together his rod and baited his hook and with the strength he could muster without throwing his rod into the water he launched his hook into the water and sat down and waited to see  if he would be lucky or not.

Shin’s patience was still going strong as it was needed as he had hardly any kind of bites or nibbles he even thought of changing where he was fishing from but he wanted to give this spot a bit more of a chance as he knew that in the past it had done wonders for others just in general so he reeled in his hook and noticed that his bait had been snatched without so much of a snag on the line. “Alright so they are here but they are much smarter than me.” Shin laughed at himself and rebaited his hook making sure it was properly put on this time and got up from his sitting position.
 
Standing up Shin looked for a nice place to launch this hook into and randomly choosing a spot that was being shaded by a nearby rock he figured there might be some fish hiding in the shadows staying out of sight and if he was lucky he might be able to hook one of those cautious creatures. Flicking the line out with precision that came with his countless times hanging out here fishing for some free food when he didn’t feel like waiting for his sister to make food or his mother to call them in for dinner. His hook went into the water with a slight splash from the weight of the bait and Shin got back down into his sitting position and waited to see if this attempt would be better or if he would need to call it quits for the day.

Feeling a snag and after a slight bit of work but not enough to make Shin think he was going to win any awards out popped this overly armored Fish with sharp fangs and orange in color. He laughed to himself as the little fish though vicious wasn’t anything more then over a pound in weight Shin held it in his hand clenching the fish so it wouldn’t move and removed the hook from its mouth and tossed it gently back into the water to return to where it came from, “Maybe someday you will be worth eating.” Shin said to the little fish as he watched it swim out of his view and back into the water’s deep.

Sighing to himself he figured he would keep going as he at least caught something that time though it wasn’t anything of worth now he was getting fired up on the possibility of winning he dug into his container of bait and throw on a couple of extra taking the catching of the last fish that he was finally getting the nearby fish interested in the food. “You guys better get caught on this hook so I can go home to brag to the family.” Shin said as he stood back up from his sitting spot and looked a bit farther out away from the two spots he had already attempted and launched his hook into the distance it going as far as its small weight would carry it. “If this one isn’t good maybe I’ll move places.” Shin said to himself as he settled in.

It seemed the fish had learned to avoid Shin’s hook this time around because as the Uchiha sat there without a nibble or snag he reeled in his hook once more and just like the first time he had tried the bait was gone. “Maybe I’m tossing it to hard and the bait is falling off.” Shin sighed to himself as he stood up and grab the container he was using to hold his bait and made his way back down to the beach to travel a bit down the shore to find a new spot looking for any rocks that stood out for him to sit on and cast from.
 
It took some time but Shin did find another outcrop to fish from and he was just that much farther away from the main group so he was a bit more hopeful for this spot then the others. “So far I’m one for three attempts if I can end the day with at least a fifty percent catch rate I’ll be happy.” Shin attempted to himself after all if he wanted to he could just tell the family he was out training or running they would accept that since it was something he typically did. The more he thought about it Shin’s family would be surprised to find out he was doing something that wasn’t eating, sleeping or training.
 
Chuckling to himself Shin baited his hook as normal and sent the hook flying into the ocean letting it sink a bit to see what luck he had here.
