Asami vs Hayate

Hayate howled out in pain as the kunai bit through his sandals, blood gushing from his foot. It caused a warm, slick, unpleasant layer to be trapped against the soles of his feet. He fell forward onto the ground, hands catching his fall so he didn't slam his face into the ground. He had to face the harsh reality. He had lost. Hayate had known it was a possibility, but as the exams went on, and as this fight went on, he secretly gave himself more and more of a chance at actually winning.

But now things came to.... this. Hayate had cut a deep gash across asami's face and taken part of her ear. He tried to tell himself he hadn't meant to, but.... it was combat. He was doing what he was trained, what always worked out fine in practice. But... in a real fight, what else would a giant spinning blade do?

And in return he had received deep punctures to the feet, real wounds. God it hurt. It hurt so much.

Was chuunin really worth all this? Did this Konoha villagers get their fill, seeing the mist ninja beat each other up? The cheering of the crowd seemed to indicate so.

"I yeil...... ARGH... I yeild."

His body sagged to the floor, laying flat. The med ninjas would be there soon, to patch them up. And he and Asami would have to deal with the very real change this would bring to their dynamic, whatever that may end up being. They'd get to go home again, and leave this land of fire and pain. But for now, Hayate was done.

Asami’s eyes rolled back in her head and her whole world went black. The last thing she saw was the clear blue sky devoid of clouds. However, only Hayate’s cries came to haunt her unconscious mind and follow her off the field of battle all the way to the hospital. The whole fight became a blur of violence and emotion, but her friend’s anguish remained in sharp focus.

As the two Mist ninja were being carted out of the arena, the speakers crackled to life declaring Asami Miyamoto the winner of the chuunin tournament. Two shinobi from Kirigakure had bested all Konohagakure had to offer and then given the village a finals match to remember. Today the Mist village could be proud because it once again towered above the Village Hidden in the Leaves.  

But at what cost?
