Training Montage: Life of an Academy Student Empty Training Montage: Life of an Academy Student

Mon Nov 07, 2016 8:59 pm
Morning Training:

Taking a deep breath, Senshi started out on his run around the training grounds. It was five am, and he had woken early in order to get some training done before the academy. He couldn’t afford to be weak anymore after all. With these thoughts in his head the young boy continue to put one foot in front of the other, pushing himself to run at a decent pace. His speed needed to be increased, but he was far more focused on making his stamina better. He needed to be able to keep up with the older students he was constantly paired with. Senshi focused on his breathing, making sure to inhale through his nose as his foot hit the ground.

He continued the inhale until he felt like he would burst and then slowly released all the air out of his lungs, before repeating the procedure. He had to make sure to focus hard on his breathing as he ran or else it would get out of hand. He had read in a book that it would help him last longer if he could get this breathing thing down. Continuing to run, Senshi could feel the wind passing through his hair, the chill of the morning setting into his bones. He could feel the cold air burning his lungs, Kumogakure was known for being quite cold in the winter after all. Though as he continued to run he could feel warmth beginning to creep into his arms and legs as he continued to pump them at what he considered half his best speed.

The point was stamina, not speed training. Though he would definitely need to work on getting much faster if he wanted to survive very long in the ninja world. Speed meant nothing if he couldn’t maintain it for a long time. Upon completing his fifth lap the young boy threw himself into the snow starting to crank out push ups. By not giving himself a break he could continue to work on his physical endurance while also building up some strength. As his chest pressed against the snow and then he forced himself up groaning as he did so, his only thought was how he couldn’t, wouldn’t ever be a failure again. He needed to get better, and his age and small stature was against him when it came to strength and stamina.

He would have to work twice as hard to outperform the people he was hoping to graduate with. With this in mind the young boy rolled on his back, his arms shaking from the push-ups as he started doing sit ups. Pulling his body up with simply his abdominal muscles and force of will, the boy was gasping. Air condensing in front him so thick it was actually obscuring his vision a little. Senshi continued pushing himself, he had barely been working out for thirty minutes, how could this ever be considered acceptable. As he completed his last set of a hundred sit ups the young boy jumped up proceeding to jog again.

The dull thud of his sandals hitting the snow covered track was aggravating to the shinobi in training. He needed to be silent even in his exhaustion. With this in mind he focused on correcting his stride so his feet would hit silently while he ran. His breath coming out in short gasps as he could feel the stitch in his side. With his second set of five laps complete Senshi jogged over to the wooden training posts, gasping as he started stretching out. He didn’t want his muscles to seize up while he started practicing the technique his father had shown him.

Senshi stood in the academy training grounds glaring at the wooden post that he was attacking. Drawing his hand back again he launched it forwards in what could only be called a slap. His father had shown him once, he called it Discipline. Frankly it was just a very reinforced slap, but it did require him to channel the chakra to his arm muscles and send them forward with everything he had. Something he was currently having trouble with. Drawing back his left hand he struck the post again wincing at the feeling of the wood against his hands.

He repeated the slap alternating hands every time, it would do him no good to learn the technique only to be able to use it with a single handle. The dull thump of the flat of his palm striking the post was the only sound that could be heard throughout the training area. Being as it was only five am and class didn’t start for a while Senshi hoped to get the technique down before class started, so he could use it in a taijutsu spar. He continued slapping the post, wincing as his hands struck it. They were clearly already showing the wear of striking the solid wooden training post.

Senshi wondered how the older shinobi did this so often without constantly braking their hands apart. Senshi winced as a splinter from the post cut into his hand leaving a bloody smear but strove forwards ignoring the pain. He couldn’t be a failure again. He just couldn’t’. His hands blurred forwards continuing to strike the post. The dull thump, thump, thump of his hands striking it were becoming a sort of rhythm for the boy. He tried to bring his breathing in tune with his hands striking. Trying to make it so he exhaled just has he launched his hands forwards, then inhaled as he drew them back for the next slap. He could feel the chakra in his muscles striving to push them forwards and maintain his pace.

The burn was something he was quite accustomed to, but not for this length of time. Taking a breath the boy forced his hands forwards. He couldn’t believe how much it hurt to continue striking the post, it was frightening to think that Genin level shinobi could completely destroy these wooden posts without trying. That it barely hurt them, yet here he was hoping to graduate and these posts were tearing his hands apart. The bloody smears on the post were becoming more pronounced and Senshi was having difficulty convincing himself it was smart to continue striking forwards. He would need to visit the nurse after this. Taking a deep breath Senshi launched his hands forwards at his fastest speed. He could feel the chakra in his muscles having leveled out, it didn’t burn as much. He could see the small indents into the wooden post that he was creating and it brought a smirk to his face. Once his hands healed this Discipline technique would be insanely useful against his fellows.

Having finished practicing the technique, Senshi quickly and efficiently wrapped his hands up with the gauze he had brought. He’d learned from his instructor that there was a chakra control exercise that would both assist him in learning the basic academy techniques and improve his chakra amount overall. It was called tree climbing and he was going to at least get the basics down before class started, he had an hour and a half afterall. With that in mind the young moved over to one of the smaller trees standing before it he delved deep into his mind pulling on the spark that was his chakra.

As he felt the warmth from his chakra begin to envelop him he smiled and directed it towards his feet, he needed to have enough there to stick to the branch, but not too much the instructor had said. With that in mind he stepped forwards placing one foot on the tree. He could feel his chakra trying to grasp it, but it just kept slipping, only his muscles were holding his leg up. He increased the amount of chakra he was flowing to his foot until he could feel it grasping onto the tree without using his muscles power. Now that he finally had a foot attached he focused hard on it bring his other foot forwards and up until his was standing perpendicular to the tree.

His muscles were straining as he placed his second foot against the tree trying to increase the amount of chakra there without messing with the amount in his left foot. He failed. His chakra spiked and then dropped in his right foot as he tried to increase the amount in his left foot and he fell the short few inches to the ground. Rolling in the snow Senshi growled before trying again, it took three more tries before he finally had both feet attached to the tree. He grinned sweat dripping off his body as he hung perpendicular to the tree. He was panting as he took his first real steps in the tree walking exercise. Three steps later though and he found himself falling, just barely managing to twist his body so that he landed on his feet.

A grin threaten to split the boys face however, he had a good idea how the chakra needed to flow through his body now and he could easiy focus on bringing it back up. Taking a quick ten minute breather to catch his breath and restore at least some chakra he started working again. He quickly took his first step onto the tree focusing hard as he took subsequent steps. Ten steps later, and it wasn’t his chakra that was having trouble holding him to the tree but his own muscles. They just weren’t developed enough for this. He needed to work harder.

Ignoring the burn in his abs and leg muscles he forced his legs to move taking several more steps, he was taking too long in between steps though. On average he took a step every fifteen to twenty seconds. He needed the chakra to flow smoother, but if he allowed his concentration to waver too much he found it incredibly difficult to maintain the flow of chakra. Focusing he continued to climb the tree trying to cut down on the amount of time between steps. Halfway up the tree his chakra slipped and he fell, spinning his body around he landed in a crouch panting while he wiped the sweat from his face.

Looking up at the sun the boy frowned he only had about thirty more minutes before he had to be in class for the day. He needed to cut down the time of his tree walking to at least one step every eight seconds before then. That was an improvement of four seconds per step right now but if he could do that he knew he’d get the rest of the technique down later in the day or tomorrow at the latest. Settling his face into a neutral expression Senshi took a deep breath before trying to stick to the tree again. He could feel how it was simpler to move, pushing his body to climb the tree, his feet were less likely to slip. And since he was so focused he really wasn’t in any danger of putting too much chakra into each step.

A fierce grin split the young boys face as he continued walking up the tree, at while a slow pace, he considered an achievement. Nothing would hold him back from graduating and bringing honor to his family and village. Least of all some silly chakra technique. Senshi continued walking until he was at the second lowest branch the tree had, and he continued walked under it. He could see how this was going to build his strength up eventually until he could do sit ups, upside down. Letting the chakra flow decrease Senshi flipped landing confidently and smiling. Thinking about how he had used his feet he focused on the chakra on his hands, finding it much easier before pulling his body up by his hands.

He soon found his shoulders couldn’t hold his weight for that long so he started channeling chakra into his knees as well and crawled up the tree. He could feel the strain in his muscles from the exercise, but he wasn’t having any trouble using his chakra to attach to the tree. Deciding that he was good he released the chakra and returned to the ground panting and feeling the quiver in his muscles. He had plenty of new exercises to increase his strength, stamina, and chakra to focus on for now. Taking a quick break the boy took off at a jog to make it to class on time. Hopefully his training would start paying off and he could move from being one of the bottom in the class to at least average.

The Class from Hell

Senshi arrived at the classroom with barely three minutes to spare before he would have been considered late. The Chuunin instructor was already at the podium at the front of the class and he gave the young boy a stern glare as he came jogging in. Senshi looked down apologizing as he hurried to his seat and pulled out his writing utensils. As he settled in the teacher began to speak; “All right for the new students, welcome to the graduating class, for the returning students who failed their exam I fully expect you all to commit yourself to training with far more vigor than before. Wouldn’t want to fail again would you?”

Senshi began to copy down the instructors lecture on Kunai and Shuriken throwing his face an intense mask of concentration. He had heard this lecture already, albeit, from a different instructor but that didn’t mean he couldn’t use the refresher. After a half hour of lectured the group finally was led outside to put the lecture to practice, every student was handed twenty shuriken and twenty kunai to practice with. Senshi grinned as he received the weapons, he knew his father could make more but he didn’t mind he just enjoyed the feel of the kunai’s handle into his hand. -200 filler words-

Senshi moved to the target he was assigned and drew back his hand letting loose the weapon with as much strength as he could bear watching as the Kunai flew towards its target striking hard enough to go in almost half the blades length. Senshi smiled again as he drew more Kunai and let the small knives loose to fly towards their targets. Nothing felt so good as the feel of weapons in his hands, sending them flying towards targets as fast as he could.

It only took thirty seconds for the boy to send all forty of his Kunai flying before he switched to the shuriken. His accuracy was reduced slightly with the throwing stars but still well enough that all forty hit the target. He was by no means an expert at throwing weapons but they were his specialty. If an academy student could have a specialty. The boy quickly rushed down the range to collect his weapons before starting back again at throwing them trying to increase the speed with which he let them fly. If he could maintain accuracy while throwing the weapons then he knew that he would become a more deadly foe.

His eyes finished tracking the remaining shuriken headed down range before he collected them and proceeded on his third round of throwing them. He was so involved with his task that he missed the instructors orders to move to the moving target range. It was only when he received a light cuff o the back of his head, forcing his remaining shuriken to go off target that he realized his mistake. As the Chuunin verbally berated him for his lack of attention, dropping him and forcing him to complete fifty push ups for his failure.

Once Senshi had finished knocking out the push ups he rushed to collect his loaned weapons before running to the moving target lanes. Once he was set up and began throwing his weapons again he noticed a significant decrease in both his accuracy and the speed with which he threw them. Adopting a focused look the boy tensed as he tried to ensure at least all his targets were hit. Even if it was in non lethal areas he needed to at least be able to knick a foe. Some poison on a blade would make even a tiny cut dangerous to a foe.

Moving to collect his weapons the young boy continued to repeat the actions trying to increase both accuracy and speed with his weapons. His father was a blacksmith and he figured he should be at least decent if not above average when he handled weapons. After a half and hour on the training range the class was gathered up returning the weapons to the instructor before being led on a light warm up run. Once they arrived at the taijutsu training area they were put through their paces, doing various exercise to warm up their muscles before being led through general Katas. Senshi was squaring up against one of his larger classmates moving through the correct blocks as his opponent. When the instructor yelled to switch Senshi took the offensive, moving through the katas kicks and punches with as much vigor as he could.

The boy he was facing caught each of the blows in the correct blocks before they switched again, it was on the fourth block that Senshi mistimed it and received a sharp blow to his ribs. Gasping for breath the shinobi in training rushed to make his next block just barely managing to deflect the blow away from his shoulder. Taking a deep breath to center himself, Senshi began focusing harder on his opponent looking for the tells that indicated where he was going to strike next. After forty more minuets of running through the kata’s the instructor allowed everyone a fifteen minute break while he lectured on how to perform the clone technique. –words 870-

Senshi focused hard on his instructors words, this man was giving a far more in-depth explanation on how someone needed to move their chakra to ensure that they could create the clone. Once he was finished the boy stood up creating some distance from the other students who were also working on the technique themselves. Senshi could see a few students already had the basic idea for it down, he could see them creating the hand seals and vaguely feel the flow of their chakra as the influenced the world with it.

Taking a deep breath, Senshi drew on his chakra finding it exceptionally easier than he usually did with all the training he had put into the surface walking technique earlier that day. Pulling on the chakra and visualizing the outline of his body Senshi focused on projecting his chakra outwards to create the basic illusion next to him. With a small puff of smoke a hazy image of his own outline began to appear. Senshi frowned as it quickly faded out of existence. He clearly had not given the technique nearly enough chakra, then again he had only used about a quarter of what he did for the tree walking technique.

With that in mind Senshi drew on his chakra again, forcing it outwards and increasing the output at the same time. This time however only a larger puff of smoke appeared, he had forgotten to visualize his outline for the illusion and thus It had not had anything to draw on. Gritting his teeth at such a basic mistake Senshi pulled on his chakra much harder than before, visualizing his form as he did so. This time the puff of smoke wafted out obscuring his vision as it appeared. Letting loose a few coughs from the smoke and panting at the exertion Senshi was both relieved and heavily disheartened by what he saw.

Before him was clearly and illusion of himself, however it was very pale and sickly looking. The instructor who had been watching as Senshi continuously tried finally spoke to the boy. “You placed entirely too much chakra into the construct. Reduce the amount and you should be able to accurately do the technique. You’ll need to continue working with it so that you can create them immediately with no build up but at least you’ll have the basic concept down.” Senshi nodded before bowing slightly in thanks, as he continued to gasp for breath. He really needed to work on his chakra reserves, he tired out entirely too fast.

So many things to improve before he could graduate, and so little time. Focusing back on his task Senshi brought his hands up pulling on his chakra but this time taking the time to meter out the amount he pulled forth. Sweat beaded his brow as he focused on his task, finally he felt he both had the right amount of chakra and enough detail in his head for the technique to draw from that he released the hold he had on his energy. A moment later and a small puff of smoke and a single clone of himself stood next to him, a slight grin on its face. After a few seconds the clone disappeared and Senshi had to contain the woop of excitement that wanted to escape his mouth.

Taking a breath Senshi began to focus on doing the technique faster. He still had a good thirty minuets of practice left before they would take a break for lunch and Senshi was determined to get the technique down to at least a fifteen second build up in that time. As he pulled on his chakra and brought the image of himself to his mind he focused on making sure the construct was as detailed as possible. As another clone of himself appeared Senshi was pleased to see this one didn’t have as many blurs around its edges that the previous one had contained. Several tries later and Senshi could feel the chakra flowing easier through his system.

With fifteen minuets left on the training Senshi met his goal of creating a perfect clone in fifteen seconds. Now he needed to focus on making at least two. It took several tries before Senshi finally found the correct amount of Chakra to create the two clones, and then another five minuets of practice before he finally managed to create two perfect clones. He then focused on speeding up the pull on his chakra until he could do it just as fast as he had been creating one. With sweat dripping from every pore on his body Senshi, continued to heave great breaths of air as the instructor led them on a light job back to the classroom to take lunch and listen to another lecture.
Once they were seated in the classroom Senshi focused on the instructor listening as he detailed the proper way to conduct after training stretches and perform several exercises to improve their bodies for the rigorous lifestyle of a shinobi. Thirty minuets later, and on a full stomach the class was moved outside being led through the stretches first before they started into physical training. Senshi continued to push himself through the push ups, pull ups, and sprints they were doing.
The various ab exercises that they were run through both left the boy gasping for air and whishing he was stronger so it didn’t hurt as much. Many of his peers were doing much better than he was, their older bodies and longer times training becoming easily evident in how they handled the exercises. Senshi was often left gasping after they completed a circuit. An hour of harsh training later and the entire class was being handed bokken, or training swords. It was a common occurrence in Kumogakure to see swordsmen after all. They prided themselves on it, and thus every student was at least taught the basics of how to handle the weapons.

Senshi felt himself relaxing as his hands formed the correct grip on the hilt of the bokken almost completely of their own accord. Kenjutsu was one of the more relaxing things he had ever been taught, and his Uncle had often taken to showing him basic forms to use with it. As they performed several high slashes in a row, Senshi could feel himself relaxing into the training. His body was exhausted, pushed to the limit from the days training but it didn’t seem to matter. Senshi moved to making mid slashes through the air alternating every ten to get practice on both sides. Every fifty he would switch his grip so his opposite hand acted as the dominant in case he ever needed it in the future.

After two hundred mid slashes, the class moved to low slashes, making and upwards arc with them. It was far more awkward than the high or mid slash but equally important in that it could easily catch a foe off guard. Senshi continue moving his arms on auto pilot while his body flowed through the slashes. Once they had completed another two hundred they moved to practicing against each other at half speed. One student would perform a slash while another student would perform the corresponding block. A hundred repetitions of each before they switched roles until every student had practiced against another with high, mid, and low slashes and blocks. Senshi smiled as he managed to handle every slash his opponent threw against him.

It was amazing the ability chakra gave unto muscles. The boy felt a pang of loss as he turned the bokken back in and the class moved back towards the classroom. It was time for some first aid training to ensure all the students could get through at least minor bandaging. But first they would have to complete five cool down laps at a third of their best speed. As Senshi ran, he continued to focus on his breathing, he needed it to become second nature so that he didn’t have as many problems pushing himself in combat. He was looking forwards to the end of the academy day, even though he would still need to do some training by himself he had a good plan to continue pushing himself on wards.

Senshi stood quietly in the training grounds, it was his fifth day at the academy after his failure and he was focusing on his chakra. He had been training diligently every day since he had restarted and now it was time to make sure he could perform the Substitution Technique. With a deep breathe Senshi’s hands flashed through the hand signs tiger, board, ox, dog, and finally ending on snake. He took care to form the hand seals slowly and push his chakra out searching for an item to switch with. Once his chakra latched onto the large block of wood he had set up five meters from his body he released it. Instantly he felt a squeezing sensation and a puff of smoke. When he opened his eyes he was slightly disoriented seeing that he had only moved three meters over.

Frowning Senshi moved his hands through the handseals again, taking even more time than before to form each seal and form the chakra behind it. With a thirty second build up the boy pushed his chakra out grabbing onto the wooden post with it and waiting several seconds to ensure his mental grip on it before releasing the chakra. This time he was transported with the log successfully. A fierce grin split his face as he turned to look at the log that was now sitting on its side. Senshi then proceeded to try the technique again and again. He needed to increase the speed with which he could use the technique, but now that he knew how much chakra and how to form it successfully it was just a matter of practice until he managed to get it down.

Pulling his chakra out the boy let his entire focus onto the block feeling the squeezing sensation as he was pushed through the air his chakra had made and switching with the log. Now that he could perform the technique at five meters in just under three seconds Senshi decided that it was time to increase the distance. He walked until he was ten meters away from the log and then proceeded to pull on his chakra and form the hand seals. It took fifteen seconds before he felt he had an accurate grasp on the log and then he switched with it. Landing with a light thud Senshi felt exceptionally more disoriented then he had the previous times. Practice would make that go away that was for sure.
Forming the hand seals and drawing on his chakra again Senshi focused on trying to speed the time up again. Once he had managed after several more tries to get to the point where he could switch in under five seconds he walked another ten meters away from the log, increasing the distance to twenty meters. He continued practicing until he could successfully perform the technique in under five seconds. His disorientation with being switched was lessening as well. While it had doubled the first time he had increased the distance his sense of placement was starting to level out allowing him to switch at the twenty meter mark at the same level as when he had initially started with the five meter switched.

Senshi grinned as he jumped from twenty meters to fifty meters, he felt he had a strong enough grasp of the technique in order to start switched from what most people considered the max distance for the technique. He knew it would require more chakra but running through the hand seals and sending his chakra out Senshi pulled his first full distance switch with the log off at fifty meters in just under ten seconds. Five more minutes of practice, and after an hour of training Senshi had finally managed to get the substitution jutsu down to at least a graduation acceptable level.

Training Montage: Life of an Academy Student Empty Re: Training Montage: Life of an Academy Student

Senshi stood up from his brief respite from training in the substitution jutsu, it was time to really put forth the effort to master the final jutsu he needed to graduate as a Genin of Kumogakure no Sato. The transformation technique was generally considered a simple technique to perform especially if someone could already perform the Clone Technique. Keeping the lectures he had been receiving in the academy in mind the shinobi in train pushed his hands through the hand seals slowly. Dog, boar, and then rat, as his hands flashed into the rat seal he pushed his chakra out keeping the image of one of his classmates in mind. He had been warned that it was easier to transform into someone who was generally the same size, weight, and gender as yourself.

As he progressed with the technique he would hopefully be able to achieve more complicated transformations. With a puff of smoke Senshi frowned, he could see just by looking at his own hands that he had not performed the technique correctly. His hands were blurry around the edges, and obviously too skeletal to be the hands of the student he had been visualizing. Not to mention that the skin was mottled with his darker tan versus the lighter skin color of the student in question. Senshi released the hold he had on the technique this time making sure to visualize for several seconds the image he wanted to transform into. With the image firmly in his mind he moved through the hand seals slowly, holding each for several seconds and allowing his chakra to flow appropriately through them.

After he reached the last seal he allowed his chakra to release, feeling it wash over his body as the tell-tale puff of smoke engulfed him he looked down smiling as he saw his hands were at least correct this time. He took several seconds inspecting himself in the small mirror he had borrowed from his mother. He had gotten the hair color and length correct, as well as the eye color but he could see that in the shape around the eyes he still held his own. He would need to work on that. The clothing was correct, though he could see in some places that the brown of his own clothes was showing slightly. Releasing the technique holding the chakra, Senshi formed the hand seals again taking his time as he released the technique. This time as he inspected himself he was unsurprised to find that he had managed to correct the initial flaws he had spotted last time.

Now it was time to work on his speed with the technique, he couldn’t rely on it taking forty five seconds. With that the boy moved through the hand seals, he knew how his chakra should flow through the technique and that was making it easier to perform faster and faster. After half a dozen tries he had managed to reduce the time to thirty second build up, it seemed as though he was having more difficulty visualizing than he would like. With that accomplishment made however he started practicing with other forms. Gradually going larger and larger with each success until he could perform a henge of his instructor. With this accomplishment he decided to start reversing it, working his way to a smaller size. Initially he started using himself as the image since it would be simpler, but then he began to visualize his siblings as they had been when they were younger. After fifteen minutes of practice Senshi moved back to working on his speed, surprised to see that he was down to a ten second build up for the technique.

He shouldn’t be considering he now had a far more in-depth knowledge to how his chakra should flow and form around the seals. Taking this as a good break point the boy sat down wiping the sweat from his brow as he did so. A short while later he was jumping back up, it was time to get in some more physical training. He was a shinobi and as such he needed to have the stamina to work through difficult scenarios. Taking the determination he drove from those thoughts Senshi began with a light warm up run. He continued to focus on his breathing knowing that I was helping to increase his stamina. With his five laps complete, the boy was pleased to note that not only was he a little bit faster but he was also not tired from the actions.

He a marked improvement over where he had been before. With his warm up lap complete and his muscles themselves warmed up he led himself through fifteen minutes of dynamic stretching. Forcing his body to become more limber, and hopefully more flexible. A quick turn during one of his stretches and he was cranking out push-ups at an accelerated rate. He would lead himself through a circuit training of push-ups, sit ups, pull ups, a sprint, mountain climbers, planks, and then another short sprint. Ten rounds of his and the boy knew he would be exhausted. As he pushed his body through the exercises he kept his mind as focused on his breathing as he could. A slow, steady inhale, and then a strong exhale until all the air was out of his lungs.

He continued through his circuit forcing his breath out as evenly as possible, he could feel a stitch forming in his side as he continued to run through the circuit but knew he had to push himself onwards. In combat if this happened his enemy would not be likely to afford him the chance to rest and catch his breath. As he finished his final round of the circuit the boy collapsed to the ground breathing heavily as he did so. A five minute break and then he would work through his stretches to cool his body down. After the stretches he forced himself through the five lap cool down, letting his muscles stretch out and work out the lactic acid that would be building up there. It would hopefully help prevent at least some of the soreness that was bound to crop up from this training.

Once completed he settled into his taijutsu stance running through them slowly making sure everything was placed as perfectly as possible. His instructors constantly harped on how important it was to ensure the muscle memory of these things so he made sure to do fifty repletion’s as slowly and perfectly as he could of each of his kata. Once that was complete he began to allow his body to speed up through the repetitions performing fifty of each at a quarter of his best speed. He continued to run through the kata until he was at three quarters speed. A Hundred repetitions of each kata at that speed and he pulled himself to a stop gasping for air while trying to cool his body down from the sweat he had worked up. He again led himself through several cool down exercises before moving so he was several feet away from one of the training logs.

He could rest while he practiced throwing his borrowed kunai and shuriken at the log. He would work slowly just as he had before to ensure his body knew the movements as instinctively as possible. Each thunk of a kunai or shuriken landing in the log relaxed him even further. He loved the feel of the weapons in his hands, even as they left and he drew the next focusing on slow controlled movement. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. A mantra his father had taught him when he was very young, something the blacksmithing family lived by. After ten repetitions of emptying his kunai and shuriken pouches and then collecting them again he started to speed himself up. Moving at the same increments as he had with his taijutsu kata he started at first going at a quarter speed. The repetitive thunk, thunk, thunk of his weapons landing had lulled the boy into a trance of sorts.

So much so that he completed fifty at the speed before realizing he needed to start speeding it up a bit more. He could already see that his weapons were hitting exactly where he wanted them to every time. Now came the speed portion, enemies couldn’t be allowed to see his hands move to draw the weapons and throw them or they would be more capable of dodging them. He quickly sped through the half speed and quarter speed points until he was throwing them as fast and strong as he possible could. He could already see the accuracy he was losing, but then as he pushed himself to continue throwing he could also see his own improvements. This time he completed two hundred repetitions at max speed before stopping. He really shouldn’t have focused so long on his weapons, but really they were his favorite thing.

Taking a quick breather the boy decided he had regained enough chakra to start working on his tree climbing again. With that and a focused look he began walking up and down the tree at a sedate pace. It was easier to make sure his chakra was focused and controlled when he walked like this, though he knew he would need to get faster at it. After several minutes to warm himself up to the exercise he steadily began to increase in his speed. Noting how occasionally his sandals would slip as he ran but the momentum was assisting him in stay stuck to the tree. It took well over thirty minutes before he felt he could reliably run up the tree with no slippage. He wanted to be an asset to whatever team he ended up on and thus he knew he needed to be good at tree running. It would make it easier to move through the lands once he finally began taking c rank missions.

Coming down from the tree he bee lined for the training posts beginning to practice his punches against them. He only struck with half the strength he was capable of knowing that he didn’t want to damage his hands too much. He focused first on throwing five hundred jabs with each hand, ensuring to strike the trunk as squarely and evenly as possible. Once that was completed he then moved to feinting blows, five hundred for each hand again. Then came the upper cuts, and the haymakers. By this point his hands were hurting incredibly from continually striking the post and he could see where his blood smeared along it. He had one final thing to practice before he could move on from his punches however.

He drew his hands back and began to rain a steady if slow amount on Taijutsu: Discipline slaps upon the log. The open handed slaps contain slightly more force than his punches as they help a bit of his chakra into them. He forced himself through 1000 hits on each hand, as he progressed his wincing at the pain of striking the log and his fatigue were readily apparent. He may have learned the technique but he wanted it ingrained into his muscles so during a fight he could easily call upon the move and continue using it. After he finally completed Senshi moved immediately into leg kicks. He started first with mid height kicks, the pleasant sound of the thunk as he landed each kick on the log was offset by the pain it set off in his shins. Five hundred mid height kicks later, and he moved to low kicks. They required him to drop low and swing his leg around quickly with slightly less force than the mid kicks held.

More of a delaying tactic than anything else, once he was complete with the five hundred repetitions per leg he moved to high kicks. The strain on his groin that these poised limited him to only completing two hundred and fifty per leg, but once he was done he could feel the bruising already starting to form in his shins. Gritting his teeth he moved onto the last part of his training for the day. He began to kick at the log randomly alternating between mid, low, and high kicks. Ensuring he followed no set patter and switched his legs up often, he kept this up for a solid ten minutes before he was forced to finish, a tired grin spreading across his face. He had easily met his father’s requirement to train for at least two hours now he could go shower and then rest at home while enjoying going over some of his academic books. A nice hot bath would certainly help his sore, tired, and abused muscles that was for sure.
