The Scholar becomes a shinobi

Masato had trained hard to learn the 2 jutsu needed to become a shinobi. It had been difficult for him, learning all of this stuff so late in his life, but he had somehow managed it. He walked into the class room, which was empty except perhaps for a proctor. Not being an actual student of the academy, Masato had to set up a private examination to see if he could obtain his head band. He'd wait patiently for the proctor to speak if one was there, or arrive if one had not, ready to perform the jutsu needed to be a Genin.

It seemed that Masato had beaten his proctor to the exam room, which made sense as he had arrived a few minutes early, he had wanted to make sure he wasn’t late for what would be one of many important tests that Masato had to pass to continue on his new path. He sat in a chair near the front of the room and looked out the window, missing his books, the tales of the great assassins in his clans. He had always admired them, and even the greats that were still around like his uncle, but he hadn’t desired their positions, the dangerous situations they were put in, and the willingness to give life that they had to have, that now he would have to have.

Masato’s head turned as he heard the sound of a rhythmic tune, his mind brought back to reality as he got out of the chair, dark eyes looking at the jolly proctor as she entered. She gave him a smile, which prompted a nervous one in response, though the cheeriness of the smile at least helped him feel less concerned and nervous about everything.

He always felt awkward meeting new people, it was one of the reasons he liked keeping to his books instead of going out and about. That, coupled with his feeling of being nervous due to the exam had made the whole ordeal rather stressful for the poor introvert.

Composing himself, Masato knew that he couldn’t let such things get to him, he had to pass the exam, so that he could learn how to be a shinobi, so that he could eventually learn how to kill them…

“Alright.” His voice was quiet, but there was no one in the room so despite its low volume his words could be easily heard.

Taking a deep breath, Masato performed the hand seals to activate the clone technique. He brought his hands together and formed the Ram seal first, before changing the positions of his fingers to that of the snake, then finally the tiger seal. Two puffs of smoke would appear about half a meter to each side of Masato, obscuring normal eyes to what had been created within that space.

As the smoke passed, it revealed two clones looking exactly like Masato standing next to him. All 3 of them were wearing a simple outfit consisting of well-fitting pants and a Tee shirt, a somewhat normal outfit for Masato when he wasn’t busy. He wore the outfit now because the clothes were somewhat old, and he wouldn’t mind performing demanding acts such as jutsu while wearing them.

“Is this fine, or do you need to see if they can move?” All 3 Masato’s opened their mouths, but words only came from the one in the center. Masato had forgotten that they automatically copied his movements. Deciding to further demonstrate that they could though, he raised his left hand, his hand and some of his forearm disappearing from view as it went through the arm and torso of one of his clones, the clones copying the movement and extending their arms out as well, the one on his right’s arm disappeared In his torso as well, the clone just being optical illusions.

Hoping his demonstration sufficient, Masato released the technique. Masato had only started learning how to mold chakra recently, and didn’t have much of it at that time, just performing that jutsu had been somewhat tiring. He didn’t let it show though, he didn’t want to appear weak and perhaps jeopardize his chances of passing. He had a decent amount of chakra left anyway, at least enough to perform the next jutsu, the transformation.

He performed the needed seal and another puff of white smoke appeared, this one encompassing him rather than appearing to his sides. He performed the same transformation he had when he had first successfully performed the technique, changing into an elderly man that looked completely identical to his father. His clothes had changed into robes, and his hair had become grey. Masato’s face looked ancient compared to before, he looked nothing like himself.

“Is this.. *cough*.. good enough? Masato’s voice matched his fathers as well, though he imitated the cough sort of badly. He would spread his arms out to show that he had imitated the clothes perfectly, letting the proctor see that he had indeed performed the jutsu correctly. He would stay in the form a moment before releasing the jutsu, a little bit more tired than before. He reached up to wipe his forehead and felt a single bead of sweat, and he restrained a frown as he realized even such basic jutsu like this were difficult for him to perform.

Composing himself, Masato looked at the proctor and asked the obvious question, “So, did I pass?

Masato would pick the headband up and stare into it, seeing his own eyes in the reflection of the metal. Tying the fabric around his head, Masato left the building a shinobi of the leaf.
