Grunt Work

This couldn't be where his career was going. Grunt work?! He had dozed off more than a few times on his shift before and now that he was scheduled for another shift, he was better prepared. You wouldn't think that sitting around patrolling the Gates was as annoyingly boring as it sounded -- ah who are we kidding, it even sounds boring. But he was prepared alright. The others on the shift were a bit surprised that he had brought a bag with him. 'You're not going to need heavy artillery buddy, not unless someone attacks...' was what one of them said, but he shrugged it off. The less they knew the better.

You see he wasn't a complete invalid. He could manage to focus and concentrate during his shift for the first... half an hour. It was after that period that the clouds started taking shapes and the trees started having attitudes. His eyes became fuzzy and his thoughts drifted in different directions, based on the wind. So when the shift manager came strolling down to make sure all of the patrol-men were up and alert, Asura had to get nudged by the guy sitting next to him into alertness. He was having such a great dream too. Fuckin' stiff-necks.

He was lucky that the other guy was around, or else he'd probably take a pay cut for the shift. The good Samaritan didn't fail to rub it in and the Demon offered as many thank yous as he could be bothered to before shooing the guy away. He was alone now, without someone to wake up him... But when the manager left, that's when he enacted his plan. He opened the zipper to his bag and pulled out the first magazine he got his hands on. His grin widened into a sheepish one. No one was around now. 'Suna Sluts and Taki Tamales 12.' This would do just perfectly.
