Madara swallowed a few gulps of cold water and wondered what she was in for today. She needed some more money which was surprising since she had earned a lot of it as of late. Apparently, she had booked a very expensive hotel so a lot of what she’d earned over the past week or so was basically gone. She didn’t blame herself though, this was her first beach vacation that she could remember, though her parents definitely told her she’d been to the beach before. She had to make it a time worth remembering so that she wouldn’t forget, again. If only there were some more interesting missions around here that would occupy her time!
Then suddenly, some lifeguard ran up to her and said that she had to help fill in for him. Something about there being a shortage of lifeguards so Madara shrugged. Money was money. She ran over to one of the tall lookout chair thingies and started watching people. She didn’t expect rain however. The sudden rain had something aesthetic about it. It drizzled and created a pleasing pitter patter sound out on the water. While it rained Madara looked at what she had in the equipment box at the side of her massive chair. There was something there that said it could stun a shark. That was different and could’ve been helpful on her last mission. It was merciless. Brutal and completely aimed out to kill. As much as she refused herself to learn this one. Madara knew that she could already do it. For a moment she cursed her curiosity for making her look at it.
The beach was pretty crowded with people that didn’t want to swim anymore. The rain put people off of their mood so lots of them were hiding under umbrellas or running to the nearest store to get out of the rain entirely. “So I get paid to sit around and do nothing I guess,” Madara said as she relaxed. She thought of her last days of stay within the temple she repeated and refined her techniques. Even tested her abilities on the last one, tasting the power to extinguish life at a moment’s notice. Watching objects crush within the command of her palm. To the full satisfaction of the guy who helped her with the shark mission. The news of a storm brewing had made Madara curious and she was handed a makeshift map that had all the important pointers for her if she ever dared to leave her chair. She was kind of betting on it being useful if she actually had to go rescue someone. There were some dangerous rocks here and there that were marked by buoys but the storm could mess them up.
Madara made her way down to the waters when she did see one buoy wash up to shore. Leaving behind both her innocence as much as her youth as a Genin. She knew her days as a beginner were about to be over. She was about to become something else. Something stronger. But she had yet to make her way into the water first. It made her feel a little sad thinking about leaving the comfy chair behind. But it didn’t seem to mind. Making her wonder exactly how many hours she had spent sitting there. As she didn’t wish to return to it just yet, Madara would once more make her way over the waters. But after experiencing the weight of the buoy, she didn’t fear to break it anymore. At a large speed she would use the slippery nature of the water to her advantage. Sliding over it like she was skating past the waves. And whenever the surface dared to try and become too uneven for her. Madara would stretch her palms forth and using her new powers to command the water in front of her to bend itself to her very whim. Giving this way back, over the buoy, a completely different feeling compared to when she first stepped on the surface of the water, many days ago.
After a good hour of water skating, which was certainly a fun sport and completely underestimated. Madara would find her way right to where the byou needed to go. She dived down and grabbed the rope and tied it to the buoy so it would stay put this time. She would stick to the rocky areas on her way back as they somehow allowed herself to keep the desired orientation stable. But it wasn’t too difficult. Some of the wasteland-markings soon came to be familiar again. Reminding her that she had travelled past here before. She could use the sight of the beac, as long as it remained within view, as a point of navigation too. The position of the sun. The sun during the day if snow and clouds wouldn’t bother her and of course by using her compass that would always point into the direction of where she needed to go. On her way back she found a dog that was swimming along frantically so she scooped it up in her arms and also brought it back to the shore.
The storm was making her wonder what kind of special power she should learn next. Or if she should lay off the basic ninjutsu for now. Temples usually weren’t just built for vanity. Each of them had a specific meaning or purpose. But she’d have to find out another day, if she ever dared to return to the top of that place. But for now, she had to find shelter which… would, of course, meet as usual a wonderful coincidence. Madara once more came past the spot she sat at. She chuckled as the platform where she decided to look from.
The chair was blown away by now but giving her newfound powers it would take but a few seconds for her to find a new one this time. Confident within her powers she had to show a little vanity at least and made the chair dig into the ground quite a tad more this time. Forming some little funny details including an odd smiley into its surface. But once she jumped inside and reached into her backpack, Madara had to realize that something crucially was missing. Food.
The bag she had filled with food from the temple had ripped on her skating fun time, without her noticing it. That was kiiiind of bad. Cause Madara was obviously starving to the point her belly growled. But she was a native. A predator now of sorts. Nothing she’d have to fear anymore right? So, before she even set the umbrella up she picked up her stuff and went towards the part of the beach where there was food. Passing the spot where she had watched the swimmers. She was wondering if she could do the same. Madara was jumping past the various entry points of the seemingly large covered area. She didn’t really dare to enter it. But at some point, her curiosity was picked up by something else anyway.
Barks, howls, squeals and other noises. Madara quickly followed the ruckus. Finding herself soon within a rather mean situation. A single female, heavily wounded, was being pulled up from the shore by some civilians. Some nefarious looking large crabs were coming for her. Five more were already lying dead by her feet. But she was bleeding. Heavily so. But within all the growls and roars. There was a noise Madara couldn’t really put her finger on just yet. But having a weak spot for the majestic creatures of this land, while not being a big fan of the crabs. Madara would quickly move forth.
She was casting but just a few hand signs, while her sudden presence would catch the attention of the crabs. But before they could move much, Madara’s palms had already been pointed forth at them. Unfortunately for them, they were basically caught in an illusion already. Making it rather easy for the kunoichi to make them sink into the surface below and become trapped, remaining as nothing but seafood. The injured woman was startled. She seemed blind. Having taken too much damage by the crabs and the waves. Madara knew there was nothing left for her to do. She wouldn’t be able to heal it. Not without the extent of medical knowledge she possessed. The few band aids in her back pack wouldn’t have helped. She was even wondering if a healing technique could have helped here.
The female was far away from the nearest hospital. Madara knew this wasn’t exactly the best weather for travelling either. Making herself seriously wonder what had happened here. As at last, again this squeaky noise she heard before would echo into the emotion-stricken situation. A kid. A young cute kid also washed up on the shore. Stuck within the clutches of ice against the beachfront. But whenever Madara tried to move in to get a proper look. The mother would feel Madara’s motion against them and scream her fiercest roar. Making clear. This kid was to be off limits. The situation was sort of heart breaking. Madara wasn’t exactly sure what to do. But then again, she was reminded, she could do one thing… especially now. With a few motions she could command the water around the kid’s leg to slowly move away from the wound.
By the way the mother was breathing, Madara knew she was already far past the point where she should be alive. She was bleeding so much. Even as Madara would slowly cover her wounds in she wouldn’t move. Her blind eyes were staring scared into the void. Her nostrils flaring. Completely and utterly confused as to what was happening. The little kid would slowly crawl. Her leg was sore, probably hurt as mommy must have tried to push and tug her kid out of its lock. She could literally feel the despair the mother had gone through. They should have known not to venture too far from the shore when there was a storm a brewin.
“Survival of the fittest” would Madara say, remembering the words she had learned from school. Nature was a cruel thing. Madara would slowly reach her palm again forth. This time not to try managing the wounds. But to make sure she would calm herself. The mother seemed unsure. Hearing her kid shout in a happy noise as to mark her own freedom. Madara didn’t have any more time to waste. She scooped up the kid and mom and ran them as fast as she could to the hospital where they would get adequate medical attention. There was no point in waiting at the beach for help to arrive, not with the storm going on at least.
She ran back to the beach and noticed a new smell. This stranger to her. Was she another danger for her to deal with? The kunoichi contemplated her options. She knew that more people might be dying. Whatever happened hence forth would probably remain on sheer luck that people caught in the storm might survive. Madara’s lips were shaking. She had a pretty large stomach for seeing cruel things by now. But people within the display of utter selfishness, to sacrifice themselves for their own kin. It had something pure and beautiful to it that she couldn’t but cry in sympathy for the poor peoples’ fate.
Back at the hospital, within the angsty flares of the mother’s nostrils. The doctors would hear the human sob softly for her own pain. A confusing construct for the scared blind creature. But she was getting tired. Sleepy. She wanted to close her blank eyes and rest. The docs could see how the few strings of energy, that were left within the beautiful creature, were slowly leaving her, fading away. Leaning forth the doctor placed their hands against the mother. She was too weak to speak anymore. Allowing herself to breath the doctors’ scent in deeply.
Madara made it to the beach and ran along to find that no people were in danger but there were some animals. She found some kind of seal and its kid that were also injured. What was with moms and kids getting hurt today? It would escape Madara if the mother was able to grasp what she said to her. She could only hope that her empathy allowed the mother to sooth her worries. After all. She was breathing calmly. Madara could feel how pain and fear had left her body. A soft lick from her tongue would scrape over Madara’s cheek and taste the woman’s tear. Slowly sinking down to her paws as if to give her child one last hug while the little cub squeaked cluelessly as what was happening. Until she finally fell asleep. Madara couldn’t get herself to remove the cub from her mother’s embrace. Not just yet. Both were hugging against the still warm body of the mother seal. Madara drug them both to the shaded area where they would stay.
Madara woke the next morning, the squeaking cub was crawling about with its paws prancing against the film that Madara had draped over them to protect them. It was ignorant to what happened to her mother, even though she had enjoyed to sleep in her embrace this night. She didn’t know yet what it meant to die and leave this area for the next. The cub was confused. Maybe she did know after all? Alone and still scared as she had no idea what was happening. Madara would yet be once more reminded by her stomach that she originally set out to get food. The idea of eating the food at the seafood market disgusted her. No some other creature would have to do. Opening a little hole to slip and make sure that the cub wouldn’t, allowed her to search together the remains of the storm had left on the beach. How a small storm could cause this much damage was pretty frikkin impressive.
Well the storm passed and from what Madara could tell she had lifeguarded the shit out of it. She got back up on the chair, after putting it back in place of course, and then started looking around. It didn’t look like many people wanted to go back in the water after that. It was almost as if they were scared of what another sudden storm would bring. The lifeguard game up to Madara and told her she might as well be done. She was only supposed to help out for like eight hours and by now it’d been almost a whole day. Madara had basically been working for free for some time now and that really bugged her. Not that she cared all that much but she thought that they might as well throw in some extra cash since she had done so much to help out around here. She guessed that it was asking too much for overtime pay since there was likely a cap set on this kind of job.
“Okay, well I guess there’s still some work to do out on the beach. It looks like a mess,” Madara replied as she hopped down.
“I might as well start clearing up all these animal corpses,” she thought as she walked along the beach. A surprising number of animals had gotten killed apparently. Madara returned with the meat she had gathered from the wolf corpses and some firewood. She had cut out some rather large part, knowing she had to cook for two this night. She spotted the seal cub that had cuddled itself back against mommy. Madara was wondering how long she was going to endure the heart break in front of her. But she had a responsibility to take care of, as well as an empty stomach of her own. The campfire was quickly built. The meat was cooked, even for the cub who was used to eat this meat rather cold or raw, it’d be good for her stomach to have it processed like this for once. As they were all filled up with fresh yummy wolf, warmed by the fire, Madara would use the remains of her broken food package to create some sort of carriage baby-platform for the cub. Once she had placed the little thing in there and practically bound her to her chest. She’d gaze into the cute little monster’s eyes and watch it until it started to lick at Madara’s face, curiously sniffing her scent. Since Madara had slept all night against the warmth of mommy bear, her mother’s scent remained on Madara’s own body. Making the cub feel right at home. The heavy little beast would wiggle a bit but remained contained in its baby holster. It was time to leave.
Madara had seen enough. She was exhausted from this journey. Her limbs would eventually become heavy. She didn’t leave without collecting a few strands of fuzz from mommy seal. It’d eventually come in handy someday. With a few hand signs she turned the water beneath the large seal somewhat rapid, the corpse would slowly vanish within the ocean below. She would be preserved like this. At least for a while. But her spirit has already left the plane. Her physical body had no meaning anymore.
Madara had packed all her things. Seal cub included. Snuggling the little meaty squeakiness as she made her way back to her hotel. It wasn’t far from here anymore. It was time to get a proper replacement of clothes. Time to get a proper warm meal that wasn’t necessarily of wild hunt. To linger with her fellow shinobi. To tell them about her adventure, about the icy island, this storm, the strange village, the lifeguarding, the old man at the temple. Not to forget about the little snuggly seal either. All in all, a tale that’d change her life forever. In so many ways she couldn't possibly foresee it just yet.

But she had a responsibility to take care of, as well as an empty stomach of her own. The campfire was quickly built. The meat was cooked, even for the cub who was used to eat this meat rather cold or raw, it’d be good for her stomach to have it processed like this for once. As they were all filled up with fresh yummy wolf, warmed by the fire, Madara would use the remains of her broken food package to create some sort of carriage baby-platform for the cub. Once she had placed the little thing in there and practically bound her to her chest. She’d gaze into the cute little monster’s eyes and watch it until it started to lick at Madara’s face, curiously sniffing her scent. Since Madara had slept all night against the warmth of mommy bear, her mother’s scent remained on Madara’s own body. Making the cub feel right at home. The heavy little beast would wiggle a bit but remained contained in its baby holster. It was time to leave.
Madara had seen enough. She was exhausted from this journey. Her limbs would eventually become heavy. She didn’t leave without collecting a few strands of fuzz from mommy seal. It’d eventually come in handy someday. With a few hand signs she turned the water beneath the large seal somewhat rapid, the corpse would slowly vanish within the ocean below. She would be preserved like this. At least for a while. But her spirit has already left the plane. Her physical body had no meaning anymore.
Madara had packed all her things. Seal cub included. Snuggling the little meaty squeakiness as she made her way back to her hotel. It wasn’t far from here anymore. It was time to get a proper replacement of clothes. Time to get a proper warm meal that wasn’t necessarily of wild hunt. To linger with her fellow shinobi. To tell them about her adventure, about the icy island, this storm, the strange village, the lifeguarding, the old man at the temple. Not to forget about the little snuggly seal either. All in all, a tale that’d change her life forever. In so many ways she couldn't possibly foresee it just yet.

With a sigh, Madara pressed her thumb into the black seal binding the scroll. It flared as it recognized her identity, releasing a beautiful orange glow before dissolving, allowing the scroll to be opened. She was terrified of reading the contents within, for she already knew the nature of its words. her time had come to be inaugurated by doing menial tasks around the beach. With no small amount of anxiety, Madara slowly opened the scroll. It contained details of a teen. A young prodigy, like many shinobi. According to the file, if she wasn't put down early, she could grow to be one of if not the strongest shinobi in the area. This guy was apparently an easy target. A perfect time to strike, if you were a bad guy. She read on to see that he had recently washed up onto shore with amnesia. Madara read that he had been on a mission to kill a girl, remove her from her home, deliver the body to the designated area and the cleanup crew frames another shinobi. Two birds, one stone. Pressing her thumb into the small seal at the base of the scroll, a second burst of orange light consumed her vision, and the text dissolved, rendering it nothing more than a simple blank scroll.
Dropping the now worthless heap of parchment at her feet, Madara rested her hands atop her knees, digging the tips into her kneecap. She could barely contain her confusion. I mean, sure, she had taken lives. She’d killed men before, and been sent on missions against enemy agents. This, however, was a different kind of mission entirely. There was a killer with amnesia out on the beach and there was a reward for anyone who helped him regain his memories. The mere thought of having a violent encounter on the beach around a bunch of civilians sent a chill down Madara's spine. Sure, she was a shinobi, but she was still bad at controlling collateral damage. She would probably just as terrified as she is now if she awoke in the night to see him looming over her, knife in hand. Still, she didn't have a choice in the matter. Money was money.
The walk to the address the man was staying at was a somber one to say the least. It was a cloudless night, and the moon was bright to say the least. It made stealth harder, but it also made it easier for her to see if anything went wrong and she was forced to fight in the streets. Taking a quick glance at her watch, Madara struggled to make out the hands ticking silently against the clock face. It was 2:30 am. The target would almost certainly be asleep. Looking up, the roof of the house in question was beginning to come into view. Approaching the house with cautious, Madara took a moment to ensure nobody was watching her before looking for a point of entry. As the file had indicated, the second floor had a balcony with bay doors, and apparently the residents didn't bother to lock them. Madara silently climbed the wall leading up to the balcony, the chakra coating her hands and feet acting as an artificial suction cup, helping her cling to the surface.
It would be fair to say that over the last few weeks, Madara had been interacting with a lot of people from different walks of life and almost all of them had grown to like her. Whether that was because she'd taken care of their troubles and was the one that had taken care of their moral problems, or because she’d done favors for free. She was slowly becoming more and more of a woman of the people. She was not as popular as she would like, but she was definitely overcoming the people who disliked her for being an Uchiha member. However, that might not be able to last after tonight. Tonight was going to be one of the most awkward jobs that she'd ever had to undertake. It was almost like the people around here had asked her to stomp on the dreams of the common people. Tonight, apparently, there was a minor protest in the Market District of the beach town and it was slowly becoming a threat to law and order. It was supposed to be a peaceful protest about how much control the shinobi had over the village but one of the people there was corrupting it and turning it from something beautiful and intelligent to something violent and disturbing. Now she was having to disagree with her own beliefs simply to avoid having to fight the people who couldn't fight back. Damn that man, and damn everything he stood for.
Dropping soundlessly onto the balcony, Madara approached the doors. They were made out of brass, and as such provided a clear view into the room. It was a living room, completely void of life. The room was pretty generic, with a coffee table, a television and a sofa. The walls were covered in bookshelves and pictures. The only ways out of this room were a set of stairs leading to the ground floor and a single shut door. Madara moved slowly, her every step calculated to be inaudible. It took her nearly a minute to reach the door. Placing her hand gently against the cold brass handle, Madara began to turn ever so slowly, taking several minutes to complete the revolution, ensuring the metal contraptions moving within the door would be as silent as possible. Taking special care to ensure the hinges didn't creak, she pushed the door open just enough to slide her head through the gap. She could hear someone breathing, and, given the amount of time she had spent in the darkness, her eyes had adjusted enough for her to see a vague picture of the scene. It was a double bed, with a man and a woman sleeping in each other's arms. Not the target. Slowly shutting the door, Madara turned her attention to the staircase. The memory loss guy had to be downstairs.
Madara walked down the staircase with no small amount of caution, ensuring each stair didn't creak and give away her existence, until finally she reached the first floor. The silhouette of a person could be vaguely seen on a mattress laid out on the floor of the living room. Taking a moment to calm her nerves, Madara slowed her breathing, trying to silence her rapidly beating heart lest it give her away. She took no less than fifteen minutes to approach the guy, ensuring that not a single drop of noise was emitted, until finally she could see his face. It was who she was after. Madara's hand approached her pocket slowly, withdrawing a knife, taking special care to not accidentally brush it against the other objects in her pocket and as such create noise. Raising the blade in front of her face, Madara brought her other hand up to help her keep her grip on the knife, her shaking so intense that she could barely control herself. Taking a deep breath, Madara steeled herself; now was the time.
Right before Madara finished him off she remembered that she wasn’t here to kill him but to help him regain his memories. It took everything in her to stop herself. She let out a deep sigh then kicked the guy gently until he woke up.
“Huh?” he said, “hey what are you doing in my hostel room?”
Madara said, “I’m on a mission to help you regain your memories. You were on a mission to kill a girl and I guess whoever requested this mission wanted you to get back to it as soon as possible.”
“What? That doesn’t make any sense,” the guy said. “I’m no shinobi. I’ve told you, and I told the authorities. I just… went for a swim and here I am. My past is fuzzy but I’m not strong at all and I don’t even know the names of the weapons you people use.”
Madara shook her head, “well, be that as it may, you’re going to carry out your mission. You were a sick fuck too, you were paid to kill a little girl.”
“That doesn’t… sound like me at all…” the boy trailed off.
“Remember damnit I don’t have all night!” Madara shouted as she kicked the guy to the floor. His body was muscular enough, Madara was certain that he was a shinobi. She activated her sharingan and locked the boy in a genjutsu where he would see himself using various shinobi weapons. It didn’t seem to be working all that well because he just started crying which was a sad sight.
Madara switched up the illusion. She put the boy in Madara’s body. She painted an image of herself standing over the girl he was supposed to kill. In one rapid movement, Madara's left hand covered her mouth while her right brought the blade to her throat. She pressed the sharp edge against her Jugular, staring into her eyes as she awoke to realize what was going on. The terror in her expression was palpable. Madara held this position for a few seconds, staring into her large green eyes, her hand shaking, the blade pressed against her throat so firmly that a single bead of blood was working it's way down it's surface. They stayed like this for the better part of a minute before Madara realized a simple fact: she couldn't do it. She couldn't bring herself to kill a beautiful young woman in her bed, orders or not. "I'm going to remove my hand from your mouth. Don't scream." Madara whispered to her, her hand slowly rising, the blade remaining firmly pressed against her skin. "Please god don't kill me. I'll give you whatever you want" she pleaded in a hushed whisper. Her terror was deafening, even worse than what Madara felt it seemed. "Calm down. I'm not going to kill you." As she spoke, Madara removed her knife from the girl’s throat. As she started to get off from on top of her, she quickly took advantage of the window of opportunity to form the bird hand seal. From the ground at Madara's feet, two thick branches rose from the floor, rapidly binding Madara's arms at the wrists. The branches had a vice grip, forcing Madara's hands to open. her knife dropped to the floor, landing tip first. The terror Madara had felt preciously tripled as she realized she was now at the whim of a person she had just tried to kill.
Madara abruptly ended the illusion and looked at the amnesia dude. “Does any of this make any sense to you? I’m just putting you in illusions until you start to remember.”
“I think I’m starting to remember… ugh, I’m so fucking confused,” he said. Madara sighed and put him back in the illusion.
In the illusion the girl to be assassinated crouched down, touching the ground with her fingertips. Where she touched, a shaft of wood began to sprout, rapidly taking the form of a long, sharp spear. Holding it in both hands, she pulled it free from the ground and aimed it's tip directly at Madara's heart. Madara's heart was pounding violently in her chest as she squirmed to break free. "I won't be as merciful as you were" she growled at Madara, the tip of the spear digging into the skin above her heart. In an act of pure desperation, Madara channeled all her chakra to the spot where the spear was, and in a state of pure hysteria, managed to create an explosion. While it wasn't much, the blast timed itself perfectly with her thrust, knocking the blade off course and causing it to dig into her left shoulder blade. Sinking her teeth into her lower lip, Madara forced herself to repress her scream, forcing all her attention on freeing her arms. Using her free arms, Madara kicked off the ground, sinking both her legs into her opponent’s chest. She was knocked back several feet, losing her grip on the spear that was lodged in Madara's left shoulder in the process. While her opponent was out of reach, Madara hooked her feet back, locking each foot against the base of the branches that were rising up to bind her. Pushing against the base of the branches with her feet as she pulled with her arms, the branches began to splinter, losing their stability and eventually shattering, freeing Madara's arms.
Collapsing onto the floor in a heap, Madara fell onto the spear, shattering it along it's shaft but driving the tip further into her shoulder blade. Looking up, Madara saw the girl thrusting a knife towards her face. Her movements seemed painfully slow, and she could see with a new found clarity the path which her attack intended to follow. rolling to her right, Madara dislodged her knife from it's resting place in the surface of the floor, rising to face the girl. She threw a Shuriken with her left hand, but it's movement seemed labored and slow to Madara's eyes. She could tell she had activated her Sharingan, though she didn't remember consciously doing so, yet her eyes were never so... precise. Shoving the tip of her knife through the hole in the center of the shuriken, Madara flicked her wrist, sending the shuriken flying back towards the girl. She let out a pained groan as it lodged itself in her right shoulder, dropping the knife in her right hand as the pain overwhelmed her. Exploiting the opening, Madara lunged forward, shoving her knife through the soft flesh under her left armpit, straight into her heart.
Catching her falling body with her right shoulder, Madara lifted the girl’s now lifeless body into the air. The taste of her own blood flooded her mouth. When she had bit her lip to stop herself from screaming, he'd bitten straight through part of her lip. Trying to ignore the searing pain from both her shoulder and her lip, Madara began to carry her out of the house. It was a minor miracle nobody had woken up, probably due to the fact that she had avoided screaming, lest her friend and her family get dragged into the crossfire. She was a smart girl. It was a shame her intelligence had got her killed. If she had just trusted him, she would be alive now. Admittedly, Madara felt bad for killing her, but it only confirmed what her sensei had taught her. This girl was not to be trusted. Giving them any leeway would simply get her killed. Hell, it almost did. If it weren't for the fact that her opponent was less experienced than she was, she would be a dead woman.
Madara could see that the illusion was starting to build into more of an impactful one to the teen with amnesia. He was visibly shaking and a look of realization dawned on his face to the point that he started having flashbacks to stuff in his past. Madara knew that if she could just keep the illusion going on a little longer that it would be enough to push him to remembering who he really was.

It wasn't easy to carry another human being at the best of times, let alone while you're trying to avoid detection in a crowded village where the earliest of workers are beginning to wake up. Glancing down at her shoulder as she made her way through the various shrouded alleyways and back streets, Madara could see that the spear head was still lodged in her shoulder. The burning sensation was unlike anything she had experienced before. Something about it was just... overwhelming. Still, it kept her focused, and after a few minutes hurried walking, Madara reached the drop off point. Madara's sensei was waiting for her there, as well as two other individuals she hadn't met before, though their presence implied they too were Uchiha. Madara's sensei was grinning as her son approached; until she saw the blood. Hurrying over, he took the girl away from Madara and handed her off to one of her comrades before examining her wounds. "You were sloppy, you fool." he barked at her, locking eyes with her. A sudden look of surprise washed over her face as she stared at Madara, which slowly turned into a smile. Madara was in too much surprise to be shocked at this revelation, her attention completely locked on her shoulder. Still, it explained how she managed to see the boy’s movements.
With an abrupt shout the illusion ended. The boy finally burst out of Madara’s genjutsu and the intricate illusion that Madara had built faded to nothing. “I remember now,” the boy said. “I am a shinobi and I have a mission to do but… fuck I’m still exhausted from the sea. You paint a really convincing illusion by the way. I actually felt like I was you… Did you actually live through all that?”
Madara shook her head, “nah, I just wanted to paint what I assumed your mission was going to be like. I’m glad you’re feeling better though. At least I get paid for all my hard work.”
“That’s true,” he said with a short chuckle. “Okay what do you need from me to get you out of here?”
Madara shrugged, “I have no frikkin clue. I guess you should come with me right now. I guess you can take a few minutes to get prepared for your mission. I got the feeling that you’re expected to finish your mission like… tonight.”
“Ugh oh my god I can’t believe they expect me to recover from amnesia and do a mission all in one night. Fuck. Take me to the hospital at least, I need some kind of stimulant if I’m going to get through this.”
Madara shrugged. She had to go by there to pick up her payment anyways. “Alright, lets go!”

Holding it in both hands, she pulled it free from the ground and aimed it's tip directly at Madara's heart. Madara's heart was pounding violently in her chest as she squirmed to break free. "I won't be as merciful as you were" she growled at Madara, the tip of the spear digging into the skin above her heart. In an act of pure desperation, Madara channeled all her chakra to the spot where the spear was, and in a state of pure hysteria, managed to create an explosion. While it wasn't much, the blast timed itself perfectly with her thrust, knocking the blade off course and causing it to dig into her left shoulder blade. Sinking her teeth into her lower lip, Madara forced herself to repress her scream, forcing all her attention on freeing her arms. Using her free arms, Madara kicked off the ground, sinking both her legs into her opponent’s chest. She was knocked back several feet, losing her grip on the spear that was lodged in Madara's left shoulder in the process. While her opponent was out of reach, Madara hooked her feet back, locking each foot against the base of the branches that were rising up to bind her. Pushing against the base of the branches with her feet as she pulled with her arms, the branches began to splinter, losing their stability and eventually shattering, freeing Madara's arms.
Collapsing onto the floor in a heap, Madara fell onto the spear, shattering it along it's shaft but driving the tip further into her shoulder blade. Looking up, Madara saw the girl thrusting a knife towards her face. Her movements seemed painfully slow, and she could see with a new found clarity the path which her attack intended to follow. rolling to her right, Madara dislodged her knife from it's resting place in the surface of the floor, rising to face the girl. She threw a Shuriken with her left hand, but it's movement seemed labored and slow to Madara's eyes. She could tell she had activated her Sharingan, though she didn't remember consciously doing so, yet her eyes were never so... precise. Shoving the tip of her knife through the hole in the center of the shuriken, Madara flicked her wrist, sending the shuriken flying back towards the girl. She let out a pained groan as it lodged itself in her right shoulder, dropping the knife in her right hand as the pain overwhelmed her. Exploiting the opening, Madara lunged forward, shoving her knife through the soft flesh under her left armpit, straight into her heart.
Catching her falling body with her right shoulder, Madara lifted the girl’s now lifeless body into the air. The taste of her own blood flooded her mouth. When she had bit her lip to stop herself from screaming, he'd bitten straight through part of her lip. Trying to ignore the searing pain from both her shoulder and her lip, Madara began to carry her out of the house. It was a minor miracle nobody had woken up, probably due to the fact that she had avoided screaming, lest her friend and her family get dragged into the crossfire. She was a smart girl. It was a shame her intelligence had got her killed. If she had just trusted him, she would be alive now. Admittedly, Madara felt bad for killing her, but it only confirmed what her sensei had taught her. This girl was not to be trusted. Giving them any leeway would simply get her killed. Hell, it almost did. If it weren't for the fact that her opponent was less experienced than she was, she would be a dead woman.
Madara could see that the illusion was starting to build into more of an impactful one to the teen with amnesia. He was visibly shaking and a look of realization dawned on his face to the point that he started having flashbacks to stuff in his past. Madara knew that if she could just keep the illusion going on a little longer that it would be enough to push him to remembering who he really was.
Madara focused more chakra into her sharingan genjutsu. The walk from the house where the battle had occurred to the designated drop point was a difficult one to say the least. It wasn't easy to carry another human being at the best of times, let alone while you're trying to avoid detection in a crowded village where the earliest of workers are beginning to wake up. Glancing down at her shoulder as she made her way through the various shrouded alleyways and back streets, Madara could see that the spear head was still lodged in her shoulder. The burning sensation was unlike anything she had experienced before. Something about it was just... overwhelming. Still, it kept her focused, and after a few minutes hurried walking, Madara reached the drop off point. Madara's sensei was waiting for her there, as well as two other individuals she hadn't met before, though their presence implied they too were Uchiha. Madara's sensei was grinning as her son approached; until she saw the blood. Hurrying over, he took the girl away from Madara and handed her off to one of her comrades before examining her wounds. "You were sloppy, you fool." he barked at her, locking eyes with her. A sudden look of surprise washed over her face as she stared at Madara, which slowly turned into a smile. Madara was in too much surprise to be shocked at this revelation, her attention completely locked on her shoulder. Still, it explained how she managed to see the boy’s movements.
With an abrupt shout the illusion ended. The boy finally burst out of Madara’s genjutsu and the intricate illusion that Madara had built faded to nothing. “I remember now,” the boy said. “I am a shinobi and I have a mission to do but… fuck I’m still exhausted from the sea. You paint a really convincing illusion by the way. I actually felt like I was you… Did you actually live through all that?”
Madara shook her head, “nah, I just wanted to paint what I assumed your mission was going to be like. I’m glad you’re feeling better though. At least I get paid for all my hard work.”
“That’s true,” he said with a short chuckle. “Okay what do you need from me to get you out of here?”
Madara shrugged, “I have no frikkin clue. I guess you should come with me right now. I guess you can take a few minutes to get prepared for your mission. I got the feeling that you’re expected to finish your mission like… tonight.”
“Ugh oh my god I can’t believe they expect me to recover from amnesia and do a mission all in one night. Fuck. Take me to the hospital at least, I need some kind of stimulant if I’m going to get through this.”
Madara shrugged. She had to go by there to pick up her payment anyways. “Alright, lets go!”

Madara knelt on the ground in front of a large wooden door that stood as her only obstacle. She knew that the thing she needed was right on the other side inside the top drawer of a dresser. She needed to go in there to get the key to the surfboard storage area so that she could sabatoge them and win this surfing competition. She had no fuckin clue how to surf so the only way to win was to cheat horribly. She knew where to go because she’d made sure to watch the official put the boards in there this very morning. Luckily Madara’s target had stepped out to go shopping and had left their child home alone. What fools they were, she’d think as she took a look at the door. It was locked of course but Madara decided that today that wasn’t going to stop her anymore. She had known that she would one day have to take on this trial for a long time and she could think of no better trial to test her skills.
Madara had hidden a simple lockpicking kit under the bed which she fetched and opened in front of the locked door. Most of the tools were foreign to her. There were only one main that she had ever actually used. She didn’t even know its name. All she did know was that if she put it in the lock and poked at its insides enough there was a good chance that easy locks would just open. Then she could use another tool to help turn the lock and voila, the lock would open. She wasn’t so good at reading yet or else she would have gotten a book on the subject. She also didn’t have anyone to ask so all she could do was experiment.
Madara took the two tools in her hands and put them in the lock. She moved them around somewhat randomly until she found something that depressed inside the lock. She ran the tool back and forth inside the lock which took several minutes while she thought hard with her eyes closed. She created a mental image of what she thought the lock must look like in her mind and she did her best to pick the lock… but it was a lot harder to do so than one might think. After about ten minutes of trying her hands started to hurt. She left the tools in the lock and walked off while fuming. Her stomach hungered for the candies even more now than before.
Just as she was going to try again she heard a knock on the door. Oh great, it was her neighbor’s kid. His name was Billy and he was the exact sort who liked to not be in trouble. Madara despised him because he was just too different from herself. His only redeeming quality was that he had an older brother that was one of the surfers. He was more her type. Always in trouble and she had seen him hopping into other people’s homes in the late afternoon if they’d gone out for the evening. The kid the parents had left home was too shy at this age to go approaching older kids, especially boys.
“Helloooo?” called Billy. His voice knocked Madara out of her daydreaming and encouraged her to run to answer the door.
“What do you want kid,” Madara asked when she opened the door.
“Do you want to go play? I’m bored. My name is Billy” Billy said.
“I’m busy Billy go play with someone else.” Madara started to close the door but Billy stepped on inside.
“I’ve already asked everyone else and nobody’s free. What are you so busy with anyway? You’ve just gotten home and some people left.” Billy walked around until he found some bread which he started munching on without asking for permission.
“So you’re telling me you’ve been spying on me,” Madara said with a roll of her eyes. “Anyways I can’t tell you what I’m up to because you’re a spoil sport who would just go and tell on me. Get out already!”
“Oh so you’re up to no good,” Billy said smugly. “I knew leaving you home alone was a bad idea. Well you better tell me what you’re up to or I’m definitely telling on you.”
“You’re the worst Billy,” Madara groaned. “Well you might as well come with me then.” She led him to the locked door to the room of the official.
She went back to the lock and started jiggling the tools around again. It wasn’t any different than before. She could feel the parts depressing inside the lock but for whatever reason it wasn’t working as she expected. This was no new experience for her. A simple lock often took a lot of time and luck for her to open and often she didn’t expect to ever open the lock. This wasn’t practice though, she actually wanted into that room which got her all worked up.
“So you’re trying to open the door,” Bill said matter of factly.
“Obviously Billy, ugh.” She wished she was strong enough to lift Billy and throw him out a window. She tried to ignore him but every bite he took and breath he took seemed to tick her off. Her previously gentle raking of the lock turned aggressive until her tool got stuck inside the lock.
“This is more boring than I thought it would be,” Billy commented.
“Well this is what I do for fun. And if you tell anyone I’m going to shove one of these tools in your eye.” Madara didn’t think she would actually do that, but she would get revenge one way or the other. As far as she knew the officials didn’t know about this particular thing she was doing and she’d like to keep it that way.
“Gee you don’t have to be so serious. I won’t tell, honest. You gave me this bread after all.” He truly did not realize that he had taken the bread without permission.
Just then the kid of the official came into the hallway. “Oh you’re trying to get into dad’s room? Well there’s some candy in there. Can I have some?” Madara nodded.
“Good. With any luck you’ll have this thing taken care of and then I’ll get hold of those candies my parents bought.” The world candies piqued Billy’s interest so he shut up after that. He watched as Madara worked her tool free from the clutches of the lock. About half an hour of fiddling later and Madara either got lucky or figured the lock out. She turned the lock confidently in unison with the door handle and the door swung open. She threw a fist in the air in triumph. She was sweating profusely at the temples and she looked very exhausted mentally. She knew that there was a time limit to her task and by some stroke of luck the parents were taking longer than usual for their usual short shopping trips.
Billy was the first to walk into the room to the surprise of no one. He started walking around and looking for the candies. Madara rushed over to the drawer, pulled it open and grabbed a few candies out of a box. She then hurriedly closed the drawer and pulled Billy out of the room.
“We’ve got to hurry before they get back,” the kid said desperately. She had only just realized that the lock had to be locked again and she didn’t even know how to do that. Now that she thought about it, she had never thought to relock a lock after opening it. She was panicking big time now. She wasn’t used to being this stressed out. Billy just stood there watching her. He wasn’t worried at all. He was just waiting to be given a candy as if he had done something to earn it.
“Just say the door wasn’t locked,” Billy suggested. He then noticed how stressed the official’s kid was. “Don’t cry. Oh gee.” He walked over to her and gave her a big hug and a pat on the back. He was a lot sweeter than his brother that was for sure. His sibling would have laughed and snatched the candies on his way out.
“It’s alright. Here take these and get out of here.” Madara was really in no mood for candy. She grabbed the surfboard storage key and shoved it in her pocket. She fiddled with the lock but she already knew that this wasn’t going to happen as she expected. She thought now that if she had left the tools in the lock it would have been pretty simple to relock the door but she had been quick to take the tools out and instinctively shoved the tools in her pocket.
“Don’t have to tell me twice,” Billy said. He took the candies and shoved them in his mouth. He chewed them and was very satisfied with his trip over to this house. He didn’t tell anyone about what Madara was doing. He liked her a lot more now that he thought he could get some free food by visiting her.
Madara never did get that door locked. She left out a window right when the parents arrived. By the time the kid’s parents arrived she’d long since given up and hidden away. She just had to hope that her parents didn’t notice. Unfortunately they did notice that the door was unlocked. The good news was they didn’t suspect Madara of any wrongdoing. Her breath didn’t smell of candy and she seemed sad from earlier. They assumed she was sad because she wasn’t supposed to have any candies today.

She then snuck out and went to the starting area. Madara went to this surfing competition expecting it to be a pretty chill experience but it was anything but. There were shinobi arguing with non-shinobi. "You say that, but you're one of them! You're a shinobi so of course you're going to justify them, if you didn't you would be insulting yourself. Who would attack us if we didn't have any in the area? Who would attack us if we didn't have any in the village?" the rival surfer asked, and by this point it seemed like the crowd wouldn't be listening to reason. they were so addicted to the words coming from the man that they weren't thinking about how she was just lying and making everything stand on the shoulders of the local. She wanted to deck this guy in the face, but she couldn't be so obvious about it. So, she was going to need to take care of this herself, but it was going to need to be stealthy.
She was a shinobi, she was an assassin, and she thought she could cause untold pain to this civilian if she so wished. So, she could do this one little thing. Moving so that she was brushing past the man as she began to give a speech, their bodies connected for a second and he was caught in her grasp instantly, and suddenly the man's body went stiff as a rock and... fell over, onto his back. Despite giving the appearance that she was going to give a speech, she turned around as she heard the fall and moved to his side. The man seemed like she might have actually had a stroke or something, which was brilliant because with his age the crowd would think that it was natural causes.
"M-mister ?" she asked, feigning worry. Moving his head so she could check for breath, she noticed that the man was barely breathing. Looking at the crowd, she called out to them.
"Is anyone here a doctor?" When a man at the back nodded, they continued "I'll move the body somewhere less congested, we need to make sure he's okay." With that, she slipped his hands under the body and began to move it off, before looking apologetically at the crowd.
"Sorry folks, Mister Takahashi seems to have fainted. We're going to need to give him medical attention, please go back to what you were doing." With that, she moved off the stage as people began to disband. She hated lying to the people like that, but it was necessary. Now nobody was going to get hurt.
The actual competition was a cakewalk. Madara was no great surfer but at least her board didn’t break unlike the others. She happily took the prize money and smiled the whole time.

Madara sat down a the beach and helped a boy who wanted assistance with a sandcastle. His dad was there but he had no intention of helping. Instead he told Madara of a soldier he had known a soldier once. There was a year where he would visit her parents every few months. He was a low ranking soldier who had aspirations of becoming a politician someday. His name was Oion. Oion had worked for the town since he was a teenager and throughout every job that people wanted her to do. No matter what the job was, they all seemed to flock to him as if she was some sort of hero. Even that boy, made it horrendously clear that he didn't see Oion as a normal shinobi. Madara wondered if any of this had anything to do with sandcastles.
He was an anomaly, a peace lover and someone who wanted to be able to shape the world into something beautiful. He was even beginning to climb through the ranks, it seemed like he'd ranked up extremely quickly, although that was probably only because of the fact that she had spent six years as a genin. Now he was a jounin, promoted for his skills as an assassin. He had even been invited to join the special forces if he wanted, but for now he wasn't able to see herself in a job like that. He wanted to be able to protect the village, and she would do almost anything if it ensured the continued safety of the village, but... but was she willing to do something like that? He wanted to be the Kage one day, she wanted to pick up the reigns after whoever was in charge passed on, he was a great man but he felt like he could do the job better. "P-please don't kill me...." his opponents would beg, tears in their eyes. They were pathetic!
Madara didn’t give a rat’s ass about the story but it did help pass the time. There was only so much she could do to help the kid with his sandcastle and was sort of intrigued about how Oion turned out.
“Okay kid, is this good enough?” she’d ask after half an hour.
“No!” was the response.
Madara groaned and helped him make a huge wall surrounding the sandcastle. She wished she could control sand but unfortunately that wasn’t in her wheelhouse. Still, there was another reason. She still had thoughts about what she had done the last time that she had done a job for the beach. The last time that she had worked for the beach was just a few days ago as a lifeguard. It hadn’t been that fun. She supposed making sandcastles was worth it if she managed to get a buck or two off of these fuckers. When the castle, a moat, and a wall had been finished the kid’s dad threw Madara a chunk of change which she pocketed. She then ran off before the kid could ask for more modifications.

Madara was just walking around on the beach. She’d just helped some kid build a sandcastle and she had hoped for some peace and quiet but instead she got an earful. Someone was arguing.
"My father died for the village, you damned self-aggrandizing bastard. He died fighting in a far away land and never got to see his youngest son, my mother hadn't given birth to my little brother before my dad died. But then my mum died too. So did my brother and sister. They died to try and make the village a better place, they wanted nothing more than for people to be safe and happy. But, you wanted to destroy to get more power, so you know what? Say please again." she said, as the man seemed to whimper before giving her what she wanted "P-please?" Her hand moved out and wrapped around the man's face, squeezing his head so hard it would hurt, before whispering with a mix of fury and disgust in his face.
Madara walked up to someone in the crowd circling those two and she asked, “what’s the deal here?”
“Oh, they’re newlyweds. They’re here for their honeymoon and now they’re arguing.
“I got this.” Madara said. She stepped up and put them both in a genjutsu. In the illusion the girl said "No." Suddenly slamming his hand back, she slammed the back of the man's head against the walls, breaking the skull open and smearing the blood and brains all over the wall of the carriage, before doing it again and again until she was definitely dead. Definitely, since she was little more than a mess at that point. Dropping the man where she lay on the floor, she picked up a match that the man had used to light his pipe earlier, striking it against the wall and catching both the match and the carriage on fire. This was over, she thought as she stepped outside as the carriage slowly began to burn.
The woman felt sick just looking back at that incident. The man had threatened the village, every last thing that she had ever stood for, everything that she wanted and everything that she had dreamed would have been crushed under that greedy bastard's feet on his road to power, but that didn't make what she had done any more excusable. She hadn't just killed her like he'd killed the others - Quick, painless, surgical like cutting away rotted flesh - he'd made it painful, slow, gory. The blood had dried around his hand by the time that she had rode back to the beach town, but it still covered the horse that he'd ridden's reigns, enough to make people back away when they looked at him. She couldn't blame them, someone covered in blood? That was rarely if ever a good sign.
Madara then suddenly ended the illusion. Both the guy and girl were in tears and within moments they were holding each other since they’d just experienced an illusion of one killing the other.
“Yo that wasn’t free. Give me money,” Madara said. She took the guy’s wallet and pulled out some ryo then walked away.

Madara was supposed to be gathering all new fireworks so that’s just what she did. She went around from store to store and asked them if they had fireworks to spare or not. While she walked she remembered a time when she had started to fiddle around with locks. This was convenient because she was finding that after the high tide so many shop owners had evacuated so she was basically having to break into stores to get fireworks. Madara remember a day when she was sitting on her small bed in the corner room of her home with an object in her hands. It was about the size of a fist and was made of wood and metal. It was a lock that she had foraged from a pile of garbage the other day. She only knew it was a lock because it had been loosely connected to remains of a door and it had a keyhole. She had tried to get inside the lock but that would have required tools she did not know how to use. She highly doubted that smashing it with a rock repeatedly to open it would do her much good. That was what she told herself, at least. The simple fact that the lock was contained like it was turned out to surprise her. She had always thought that the lock was a more accessible contraption but she supposed it would not do much good if you could just break the material covering the lock and access it. Perhaps she had just happened to get a hold of a more complex lock, she had no way of knowing one way or the other.
Madara smiled at the memory. She fiddled with a door in present time and went in and raided the shop for fireworks. Most of them were wet, but she was able to find a good chunk that were still dry. She brought those to the beach and set them up. But it was nowhere near enough. She headed back to town and went to the next store. The hot summer sun agitated her despite the thick curtains blocking most of the light from reaching her. The humidity only served to make her sweat as she annoyedly fiddled with the contraption to see what she could learn about it. Unfortunately there was not much for her to learn. She ran one of her lockpicking tools through it to rake it but it did not seem to do anything. “Is it broken?” the thought crossed her mind more than once. It had been thrown away after all so there was a good chance that it was just a piece of garbage. She tried using several of the other tools to try prodding the inside the of the lock. She could sort of feel the inside shape of the object but there was no telling what it actually looked like. It felt nothing like any other lock she had inspected before.
The thought to bang it with a rock until it broke apart came to mind again. The thought of taking it to a neighbor and asking for it to be pried open was also an option. It all came down to whether she cared about people knowing what she was up to. She knew that there was no good reason for someone her age to be messing around with locks since she definitely did not have any sort of interest in becoming a locksmith. As that crossed her mind she got an idea. “I’ll just take it to a locksmith!” she said aloud. Then she quieted her voice because she didn’t want anyone to hear her.
“What was that?” asked someone from across the road.
“Nothing,” she shouted back.
Madara smiled because she thought her idea was a good one. The only obstacle would be payment. She doubted a locksmith would take time out of their day to help her unless she was lucky. She was cute but she didn’t think she was that cute. It was settled, she was going to have to steal some money from her one of the stores. And to do that she was going to have to sneak around and get to the money without anyone noticing. Luckily she had some experience in this area. Madara formulated a plan in her mind.
She quickly got to work. She was excited. Too excited because she swung a door open so quickly it made a high pitched squeaking sound and banged against the wall. Madara had a flashback to when she had done the exact same thing as a child. It made Madara freeze with freight because her mom yelled at her to stop doing that. Well, so much for her plan. She decided to keep trying. She dropped to the ground on all fours and moved as quietly as she could. Truth be told she would have been more quiet if she just tip toed but she had it in her head that acting like a sneaky mouse or cat would be better. She awkwardly shuffled her four limbs on the ground which produced noise in addition to the creaking of the wooden floor that told her mom that Madara was moving around the house.
It was enough to make Madara realize that she was stupid for trying to do all this without jutsu. “I’ll just go invisible and start stealing more fireworks. It doesn’t get simpler than that,” she thought. She used dustless to turn invisible and then did just that. Before long she had a whole cart full of fireworks which she wheeled all the way to the beach. Setting them up took longer than finding them but at least there was a half decent show at the end. She got paid for her work and it made her wonder whether her whole day was only worth a few thousand ryo. She thought she deserved more but there was only so much to do when all the main missions around here had been done.

Madara wasn’t planning on doing anything today until she found out her mom was in town. She’d rented out a home Airbnb style and Madara was obliged to come and stay with her. The only trouble was, now she wanted to get out and do something to avoid dealing with her mom. She heard there was some sort of marathon mission that everyone was joining up and there was a grand prize too.
Madara peeked around the corner of the wall and saw her mom cooking something in the kitchen. Her back was turned. She would not notice that her mom was working slowly because she suspected her daughter was up to no good. She slowly chopped some vegetables and picked up on the squeaks which told her that Madara was creeping closer. Mother didn’t want to give herself away so she just kept working. It was only when she heard the small jingling of coins that she turned her head and asked Madara what in the world she was up to.
“Nothing!” Madara replied with a very guilty tone. She quickly drew her hand back from the bag of coins and her mother turned all the way around.
“You wouldn’t happen to be leaving now, would you?” Mother walked over and took the purse in her hands. She tied it to her waist for safekeeping. “You ought not to be sneaking around dear, it’s a bad habit. I’ll be damned if I raise a daughter that spends her time sneaking around. Go fetch some cabbage from the market, if you’ve nothing better to do.”
“Gross nobody likes cabbage.” Madara whined.
Mother laughed and tossed her a coin that was just enough for a cabbage and then shooed her daughter out of the kitchen. She didn’t really need a cabbage, but she very much believed in handing out chores as punishment. She didn’t even expect her daughter to return with a cabbage since she was always running off and doing what she wasn’t supposed to. But at least it would get her out of the house for a while.
Madara hurried to her room to grab shinobi gear and left home through her bedroom window. She had no intention of getting any cabbage, she was going to take this money right to the nearest snack spot. She stuck to the shade and grumpily pushed her way through the doors of the shop of the nearest good smelling food.
Madara walked up to the counter and put the lock not so gently onto it. “I a snack stat!” she said.
The worker took the money in his hands and looked it over. He didn’t think anything was strange about her bringing it in even if it was foreign coin. It wasn’t the first time a shinobi had been to his place in a while. He told Madara the price to which she frowned.
“Don’t tell me you thought this would be enough to buy anything. Come back with more.” He pushed the money to the end of the counter, towards Madara.
“Sorry, I’m not in the right state of mind. I’m mentally preparing for the marathon,” she said before handing over more money.
The worker gave her a peculiar look and shrugged. He wished her well on her race even though they both knew he didn’t give a flying fuck about the outcome of the race. He handed Madara some food and went to work and within a few minutes he had made some more snacks to sell to the next customer. Madara marveled at the snack. It looked nothing like she expected it to. He waved Madara off who’s poor mood had turned happy.
He wanted to be able to tell people thanks for protecting them, to stop a threat to their continued safety, to remove a plague that had infested them and threatened to hurt them, maybe even to kill them, but she couldn't. that was giving away precious information that was something only the town’s higher ups should know. Thankfully, only a few people had noticed, so his reputation wasn't that pock-marked, and killing was expected among locals, even respected in certain areas, but the non-local who had seen him had begun shying away from him.
Now she had to actually do the stupid marathon. Running was the worst. Unfortunately for her there were a good number of shinobi that joined too. She was going to have to get dirty during the race. When the race began people activated their speed boosting techs and she was no different. Madara raced ahead of most of them because her speed was pretty good but it was nowhere near as good as the people in first and second place. She had to use paralyzing genjutsu at just the right moment to make them trip and fall. And fall they did, hard.
She snickered as she ran past and maintained her lead for most of the race. Someone got close to her once but she quickly created an illusion of an obstacle and changed the apparent elevation of the path. It was enough to throw second place off her tail allowing her to win the race easy peasy. Well, not wasn’t that easy since she had to use all those jutsu but she still won. She supposed she would get an earful for playing dirty but nobody seemed to care. It wasn’t so much money that anyone would attack her over it and all she had to deal with were a few Konoha shinobi who didn’t like her too much now.

Madara wasn’t planning on doing anything today until she found out her mom was in town. She’d rented out a home Airbnb style and Madara was obliged to come and stay with her. The only trouble was, now she wanted to get out and do something to avoid dealing with her mom. She heard there was some sort of marathon mission that everyone was joining up and there was a grand prize too.
Madara peeked around the corner of the wall and saw her mom cooking something in the kitchen. Her back was turned. She would not notice that her mom was working slowly because she suspected her daughter was up to no good. She slowly chopped some vegetables and picked up on the squeaks which told her that Madara was creeping closer. Mother didn’t want to give herself away so she just kept working. It was only when she heard the small jingling of coins that she turned her head and asked Madara what in the world she was up to.
“Nothing!” Madara replied with a very guilty tone. She quickly drew her hand back from the bag of coins and her mother turned all the way around.
“You wouldn’t happen to be leaving now, would you?” Mother walked over and took the purse in her hands. She tied it to her waist for safekeeping. “You ought not to be sneaking around dear, it’s a bad habit. I’ll be damned if I raise a daughter that spends her time sneaking around. Go fetch some cabbage from the market, if you’ve nothing better to do.”
“Gross nobody likes cabbage.” Madara whined.
Mother laughed and tossed her a coin that was just enough for a cabbage and then shooed her daughter out of the kitchen. She didn’t really need a cabbage, but she very much believed in handing out chores as punishment. She didn’t even expect her daughter to return with a cabbage since she was always running off and doing what she wasn’t supposed to. But at least it would get her out of the house for a while.

Working a movie set was not as exciting as Madara thought it would be. It was a bunch of carrying a bunch of heavy stuff and being quiet. Also not being in the way of the camera was important. The movie was about someone who wanted to go to the fire country. That was his home. Well, not home per se, but this was where his family were. Their names, at least, since they were all inscribed on the tablet for the honored heroes of the village. He was not as bad as some people, some people had never known their family, but in the same way wasn't that more tragic? His father was a great man, who'd been taken by the drums of war and never returned. Missing in action, the report said, suspected killed. So, despite not being confirmed dead, his name was inscribed on the monument. His sister, betrayed by her own team-mate and used as a body-shield was inscribed here, he had been on her first mission. His mother and brother, killed by Hoshigakure shinobi who fled from the cremation of their village, they were here too. The main character almost smiled at the names on the plaque as he read them, in a way glad just for that small bit of familiarity. Meanwhile Madara was moving props into place mostly boredly.
"Hey guys... I'm sorry I don't come to visit more often, my free time has all been taken by the village recently, and they expect me to do so many jobs I don't know if I'm coming or going. But.. you probably know all that, if you're able to hear me that is. After all, if you're listening and watching over me you know the good I've done for the people, the friends I've made and even the progress. Did you see me fight that strange girl in the forest? the one with the green hair?" she said, as if waiting for an answer that she knew would never come. It could never come, she didn't believe in ghosts or spirits or an afterlife. Still, there was no harm trying, right? Either she was right and she was just talking to herself, or she was wrong and she actually got to talk to people she cared for.
"I guess you saw her kick my ass as well. But... She insulted you, she mocked you, what the hell was I supposed to do? Just let her stand there and laugh about how her precious trees were more important than living, feeling people who were stolen from me? That fucking bitch..." she said, his fist tightening as if she was about to punch something. He... She honestly might, at this point.
The director cued the special effects and Madara started sprinkling water above the actors.
"I guess you saw her kick my ass as well. But... She insulted you, she mocked you, what the hell was I supposed to do? Just let her stand there and laugh about how her precious trees were more important than living, feeling people who were stolen from me? That fucking bitch..." she said, his fist tightening as if she was about to punch something. He... She honestly might, at this point.
Madara was getting real tired of firing off rain so she fucked up and the director yelled “CUT!” She took a breather and then signaled for the water container to be refilled. Madara looked ashamed and yelled “Sorry!”. After a few minutes they redid the scene.
Still, whether she would or not seemed to become permanently suspended in the flow of time as she was instead interrupted by the sound of someone coming up the stairs. She didn't need to look behind him, the speed of the footfalls made this man seem like she wasn't hurrying, and if that was indeed the case then she had to assume that she was simply another mourner rather than someone who would have actually posed a threat to him. Of course, it didn't occur to her how egotistical or perhaps narrow-minded it had been for her to automatically assume that juts because someone was in mourning they weren't a threat, but she hadn't killed anyone recently. Well, not true, he'd killed a lot of people recently, from within the village and without, but none who would be missed and none that had their death's attributed to the man in anything other than official reports. Besides, everyone that she had killed had either been a missing-nin or a nuke-nin, so it wasn't like it was unexpected for them to be killed. It was kind of a danger of the job, like the danger of getting crushed in a mine-shaft collapse if you were a miner.
It was only when the man knelt down next to her did she see her truly for the first time. The man was young, not as young as some of the natives from the village but she was definitely young. If she was not mistaken, he would have guessed that the man was at least half a decade younger than him, if not more. But, there was something else that seemed to surprise he. The man was dressed from head to toe in a rather bizarre outfit. Tight leather jeans, two belts (two! What pointless extravagance!) and a shirt that seemed to be bound by leather straps the same way that buttons normally would be (seriously, what's wrong with buttons? Buttons were nice and... less fetish-y) and she was wearing a long blue scarf. However, among all those things, he didn't see the sign of her wearing a headband. Now, that was bizarre, because people seemed to wear their headband as a point of pride, although paradoxically it was rarely actually worn around the head. People wore it in many other places, some had it wrapped around their arm, some used it as a makeshift eye-patch, some extended the fabric it was tied to and used it as a belt, and people like he wore it around their neck to avoid letting people choke them. After all, with that added bit of shield, not only was his jugular covered, but it also made it much harder for someone to get their hand around his neck, making it all but impossible to choke him.
Madara wasn’t really following what was happening in the story. She had joined mid production so they were just going around doing various different scenes. She didn’t like it very much. For one it wasn’t her kind of movie and for two she wasn’t all that strong of a shinobi so she hated the labor. It wasn’t like she could just genjutsu her way out of it.
As it currently was, the main actor was wearing a different outfit from his normal uniform jacket. His leather boots were still there, although these were almost like heels, staying tight-fitting to his foot and tied by a series of leather straps up his leg until it stopped halfway between his knee and his ankle (yes, she was wearing leather straps as well! Shut up, who wears buttons on their shoes?)Tucked under that, she wore a pair of light blue jeans that had what appeared to be a simple linen shirt underneath it, with the wondrous buttons that the man's outfit sorely missed. She was also wearing a pair of white gloves to cover his hands, and a brown hooded jacket that seemed more like an over-shirt than a coat. This was also made of linen, but there was something about it that made it look more like burlap. It was a sort of earthy, natural brown that was hard to master in normal dyes. Fashion designers would hardly kill each other for his outfit, but it was definitely something that suited him. His hair was dealt with the same way it was always dealt with, his hair left to hang basically, making it clear that no express effort had been made to do his hair well today. If his family were watching him, they would be judging her over his actions rather than whether or not she straightened his hair or whether she kept it ridiculously short as some seemed to obsess over.
The silence was almost palpable as both people just stood (or, in the ronin's case, knelt) looking at the monument. This man had been murmuring something under his breath, and whilst he had not been able to hear her she had been able to read his lips. Not enough to actually tell what she was saying, but knowing that she was saying the same thing over and over again, almost like a chant. No headband, a bizarre outfit and chanting in front of a grave... was this guy a priest? No, she was sure that priests had to dress more modestly, whilst she wouldn't call what the man was wearing lavish she would definitely say that it was immodest. it would draw the attention of anyone who wasn't blind within the nearby vicinity, although that might be something to do with the fact that it was quite tight and that if he wasn't concentrating on other things, he'd had to admit that the man was not-bad-looking. She was hardly instantly attracted to him, but she wasn't like others who would just get rejected out of hand. But, honestly, she cared more about other things right now than about the fact that there was someone chanting like an idiot.
So, how was she going to bridge the gap that silence left? there had to be something, she had faith that there was some way to keep this silence from continuing indefinitely. She knew that if it did nothing bad would come from it, but there was still a basic curiosity that he had that was driving her to know more about this man. To know why she wasn't wearing a headband, to know what had brought her out here, to know who she was mourning. For a moment in time, if only this moment, they were brothers in arms, they were both the silent vigils on the gravestones of those who were forgotten except for the words carved in a single solitary stone. So, it was only right that they get to know each other.
Madara had nearly fallen asleep. It was just so fucking boring. And it wasn’t like she had to watch this shit one time. They’d do a million takes of every different scene and she had to move shit around every. Single. Time. She got bored and debated quitting but it was almost the end of the shift.
"So..." and, he knew that she was going to need to breach this sooner or later. "... if you don't mind me asking, who are you mourning? Whoever they were, they must have been important to you." she was sympathetic and understanding, and would more than understand if the man didn't want to share his own reasons for being here with someone he'd not even truly met. Sometimes grief was personal, and sometimes it was not so much. Although, judging the age of the man, she could make a decent guess about who. She was not wearing a headband for the mourning ceremony, and if she was mourning his team-mate from the village, she would surely be wearing it as a sign of respect. That and the fact that he had not seen her around before. that most likely meant a family member. But, she was not crying. So, it was not that fresh of a wound. It was not suddenly sprung on him, this had been known for a while. She wasn't here with any other family members, which would either show that she was an only child and that she was mourning his parent(s), or that she was an orphan and mourning a sibling. Or perhaps she was mourning for more than one, just like he was. But, either way, educated guess or not it was rude to guess things about a person like this. A person that, by all rights, he didn't even know in the slightest apart from in judgements made about his overly eccentric clothing.
That was it. Madara had officially fallen asleep and hadn’t heard the director yell CUT! Luckily she jolted awake when her equipment dropped and she hurried off to collect her pay.

Whoever they were, they must have been important to you." she was sympathetic and understanding, and would more than understand if the man didn't want to share his own reasons for being here with someone he'd not even truly met. Sometimes grief was personal, and sometimes it was not so much. Although, judging the age of the man, she could make a decent guess about who. She was not wearing a headband for the mourning ceremony, and if she was mourning his team-mate from the village, she would surely be wearing it as a sign of respect. That and the fact that he had not seen her around before. that most likely meant a family member. But, she was not crying. So, it was not that fresh of a wound. It was not suddenly sprung on him, this had been known for a while. She wasn't here with any other family members, which would either show that she was an only child and that she was mourning his parent(s), or that she was an orphan and mourning a sibling. Or perhaps she was mourning for more than one, just like he was. But, either way, educated guess or not it was rude to guess things about a person like this. A person that, by all rights, he didn't even know in the slightest apart from in judgements made about his overly eccentric clothing.
That was it. Madara had officially fallen asleep and hadn’t heard the director yell CUT! Luckily she jolted awake when her equipment dropped and she hurried off to collect her pay.
