Inevitable Empty Inevitable

Wed May 11, 2022 3:18 am
Darkness, it swallowed everything without remorse, joy, love, fear, light. Nothing was beyond its encroaching grasp, eventually it would be the only thing left. Nothing was fancy about it, it needed no enhanced speed, nothing to block its prey, just time and it would eventually catch up. Both welcoming and dreaded two sides of the same coin, it meant rest for the weary to start anew.. it also meant eternal rest to never stir again. Darkness was infinite and finite living in everything and eventually always finding a place in everyone as well in the form of emotion. It couldn’t be controlled or tamed and mocked all who tried, for it simply was.

In this instance it served as a veil, an all encompassing shroud choking light from any source. The mausoleum crypts silent, nothing lived here anymore the weight of emptiness pushing all things out. Cob webs adorned most surfaces that had also accrued debris from the internment being etched into the very earth. Chunks of a mixture earth and stone littered the floors from time eroding the structures. The moisture in the air have the area a certain smell that could Only be described as “old” the off putting addition of decomposition was an added bonus.

“Thump”

Solitary in the middle of the crypt was an ornate marble panel etched with various words now no longer legible. Atop another slab of stone with fissure cracks running along and through it. Empty vials and bags that once held solvents and various other liquids adorned the slab and finally above both foundations lay a sarcophagus rusted. The bronze and silver note the same drab color as oxidation and moisture had played its part.

“Thump….thump..”

The top of the sarcophagus was shattered in various places but its thickness held most of the cover in place. Multiple lines of tubes ran alongside the cover before disappearing inside of it via an open corner. The varying colors of the liquids going from green to purple to blue has all but run dry. The intricate artwork and inscriptions that once proudly showed were now covered in wax from candles that had long given all they had to hold back the ebbing darkness. Against the walls were artifacts of a time long forgotten the weapon Silence once proud and full of malicious power now chipped and bartered, its edges dull and the rust preventing any of its attachments from being functional ever again. The battle armor adorned the opposite wall hulking in stature the grey color even more lifeless than before its pristine condition not meant for a burial ground such as this. An exhibit of sorts was played out for no one to see as the other batting weapons that had been used from battles no longer spoken watched on as the user never moved.

“Thump…. Thump…. Thump….. Thump”

A beat played from the tomb, the only noise allowed to exist in the void of darkness. It was rhythmic and as it picked up pace it felt as if it belonged in this time, in this place. Against the darkness where sound had long been evicted this new introduction into the environment almost felt as if it was beating the void back with its own emptiness. What the beats were telling their surroundings is that they longed to swallow everything around it, engulf it with what was no longer in itself. Could darkness eat darkness, emptiness absorb more emptiness, how could a void feel so full? The sarcophagus shifted slightly the sounds of stone grinding against itself reverberating through the halls.

“Thump……………Thump………………..Thump”

A figure, no, a husk of something once humanoid slowly sat up lurched over. It was, is, and is to come. Just like darkness he was slow and methodical eventually it always all came back, it controlled and covered everything. A singular deep breath widened the back and extended the chest forward. The darkness seemed to give room to what had awoken once more. With a cold exhale the room once again returned to its neutral state. Things were moving once more, the good work, everything was….inevitable.
