Task: Somebody's driving purpose in life is currently to see you dead. They've paid good money to send this top-tier assassin to take you out. Threads should begin as a casual social thread or unrelated mission thread until the assassin arrives. If there is a group of characters undertaking this mission, the NPCer will choose one that they are specifically targeting, and they only have to kill their mark and make a getaway to succeed.

Everything was set the hunt for Axwell Florent was about to begin. The group going on the hunt had banded together and were starting to discuss how things would go. "The man knows the faces of the Hoshi shinobi, so Fu will serve as bait until we see the bastard. Then we'll attack from many angles to prevent his escape." Their current location had no buildings in sight, at the present the Nova's "damaged" eye remained stationary as his other was on the look for people coming from his side. There were few places to hide in this landscape, someone could hide behind a boulder or two in the desert of Hoshi, but only if they decided to squat. With the sun high overhead and no clouds on the horizon the area was completely visible. As were the group walking through the sand.


At the present they were hunting for a werewolf, but soon they would find out nothing ever went as planned. As the doctor walked he would be somewhere toward the back of the group no more than 5m from Ayato, who could foresee a problem with his byakugan as they drew closer to the meeting location of former noble Florent.

The Kage set the pace, running across the desert. His companions followed beside him, trying to keep up. Ayato attempted to call out a question, but the wind muffled his words, and the shinobi did not hear them. From then on, he traveled in silence.

It was the hour before dawn when the world was dull and grey. They had traveled under the guise of dusk and avoided the main roads, all with the intent not to attract attention. They had set out to kill an insurrectionist, the traitor, the most dangerous enemy of Hoshigakure. Axwell Florent, the former Queensguard. Ayato’s claw mark scar was itching with a burning sensation as he looked to make another Dance in the Gardens with the people behind him. 

And they, too, had their goals. For Masashi Uzumaki, the opportunity to join the Nova Corps when the group beat the shit out of this traitor. For Fu of Konoha, a chance at redemption after breaking Hoshi’s law. Finally, for Akabayashi, people said that the vulture remembered his loyalty to the village’s ideals whenever it served him. They could say what they wished about the man, but he was no coward. The bodies he and Ayato had buried after Valen’s coup had set the foundation for Hoshigakure to build the village that it is today.

The town amounted to stone buildings ringed by a border wall, which had grown up around an ancient mural tucked away in the mountains of Haven Country. The place did have a certain charm to it, Ayato supposed, save for the cold storms that plagued it during winter.

On your way to Fallhalt. The unsteady sign was about to fall from its rusty hinges, and time had withered both its paint and vibrancy away.

The Hyuuga had active his clan's Kekkei Genkai, chakra pulsing along the veins and nerves of his face. They bulged up in a manner almost grotesque, reaching up from the top of the spinal column and across his cheeks. Then they were up to his temples and into his eyes. The pupil became distinct, the outline etched into the iris via a flexing vein, giving the shinobi of noble birth an aggressive and hostile appearance.

The Byakugan's 360 degrees-range vision would have little use here. Instead, Ayato exhaled, and a single additional nerve flexed under each eye - his vision expanding to a long-range, scanning the empty mountainside between the group and the unguarded gates of their destination. 

“This is the part where I say that things are quiet, too quiet.” Said Ayato, his lips forming eerily to what appeared to be a smile and his movement coming to a sudden halt.

Masashi's stats at the time of the mission:

It was still dark outside when Masashi Uzumaki was awoken by his butler. The mission he was undertaking was extremely time sensitive, as such they were departing before sunrise in order to meet up with the rest of the team that was to be joining them. Masashi would be meeting up with his friend and leader, Ayato Hyuuga, along with 2 others whom he would be working with to take down a renegade member of the now defunct Queensguard. Because of the nature of the mission, Masashi quickly got cleaned up and ate a light breakfast while he got changed. Today’s garb was all function. He still wore his traditional duster, but rather than his normal attire, he wore a recently acquired suit of body armour. The only change he made to the armour itself was to swap out the armour’s bracers for his own specially designed bracers, and remove the claws from the gloves. Before putting on his duster, he would take a pair of Kunai and lay one on each of his bracers, the seal previously placed on them holding the weapons firmly in place. In addition, he would slide a trio of senbon into special grooves built into the bracer. They wouldn’t be accessible while he wore the duster, but at the very least they would be in each reach should he lose the garment. Lastly, he would take the mask and faceplate that came with the armour and put it on, concealing his identity to those that didn’t have his chakra signature already memorised. With his preparations completed, Masashi would leave his home and make his way to the designated meeting point.

It was an unassuming piece of wall that was the barrier between the village and the rest of Haven Country. It made sense, for they were not trying to draw attention. That section had been cleared on purpose, not that the guards on duty knew that. The patrol routes had been modified slightly so that there was a small gap when the section of wall would not be under watch. It was a security risk to be sure, but they couldn’t risk tipping off Axwell Florent that they were on their way. Naturally he was the last to arrive, with Ayato and the other two already being there. He didn’t know either of the others, but that didn’t really matter at this time. There wasn’t time for words, so Ayato immediately took off with Masashi following close behind. His training had slowed him down slightly, so it took more than he’d expected to keep up with his friend. As they travelled, Ayato had said something to them but it was lost in the wind as they ran.

Eventually Ayato signaled for them to stop, which was perfectly fine for the Uzumaki Jounin. The breather was nice and a short break would help them as they were almost at their destination. He couldn’t exactly see what was going on, but it looked like the Hogokage was scanning the surrounding area, possibly for threats. Masashi would do the same, but lacking any special doujutsu made it so that he could really only check the area close to them, and even then being in the dark wasn’t exactly the best for visibility. Since they were standing still, Masashi would put his hand into one of his pouches, nick his thumb with the edge of one of his weapons, and then make a series of hand seals. Once the hand seals were completed, he would place his hand on the ground, creating a summoning seal. Two serpents would materialise within the seal, his friends Tsutomu and Usagi. “Tsutomu,” he would murmur to his ally. “We are very likely going to be entering a difficult fight, and I’d like you to help me collect nature energy in advance.” The serpent would nod, being acutely aware of the need for discretion based on Masashi’s own tone and body language. Usagi almost started to speak but Masashi held a finger up to the faceplate on his mask. The two serpents climbed inside Masashi’s jacket and wrapped around his torso in a way that they would not fall off, but would not impede his movement. Once settled in, Tsutomu would begin harnessing Nature energy and passing it on to his summoner. In addition to that, the pair of serpents would have their heads sticking up out of the collar of Masashi’s jacket in order to keep a constant vigil, providing him with more ways to be aware of his surroundings.

Ayato would then say one of the most clichéd lines in the history of everything, and Masashi would roll his eyes and say quietly, “then we’d best be prepared in case this goes bad fast.”
