Scritch scritch scritch. The sound of pencil on paper, looping, curving, crossing a character before continuing onto the next. Note taking was a tiresome yet necessary endeavor, Kikuko found. It wasn’t merely about recording information found, but the recognition of it in order to from a tighter bond between the memory of now and memory of later. By taking the information, processing it, and then placing it upon a separate record, she would be able to more easily record it during a different situation in which she would need to call upon it readily. In a strange way, wasn’t that purpose antithetical to taking notes in the first place? Writing down information for later, yet making them for the purpose of never needing to refer to them. It was a strange concept to wrap her head around.

Still, that didn’t mean that she would cast such ideas aside. While she had never been a fan of ardent studying, finding that live experience among the world to be far more valuable than poring over dusty old tomes in the confines of a library, more often these days she found herself gravitating towards the trove of knowledge than she would expect herself to be. In some ways, it was a hazard of her occupation- or rather, her specialty. As a fuinjutsu user, it was mostly assumed that many seals would be placed upon paper and parchment to be utilized easily as well as readily transported- and there was nowhere as bursting to the seams with raw material than this particular place in the entire village. It was the same place where they would write papers, discuss ideas, and even test out their own sealing matrixes if they were feeling especially adventurous or foolhardy. Was it to say that in some ways, the library was the proverbial watering hole of Fuinjutsu users? She wasn’t able to say.

Yet despite this, today’s purpose was not meant to be focused upon the sealing arts- although that hadn’t stopped her from practicing upon herself while searching for a particular manuscript she had been hunting down for the past few days. Training with Saya had taught her the drawbacks of her seals during combat- mainly, the application phase. Pausing to place them upon herself had cost her valuable time which she could have spent maneuvering or casting other techniques, and it wasn’t something she wanted to get caught out on again. She would need to learn to place them upon herself beforehand, if she didn’t want to be caught with a nasty surprise in an active combat situation.

Still, it was always a bit of a process. Formulate each sealing matrix, and then apply the amplifying technique to store additional power within the sealing bounds. If she wasn’t careful about it, the results would undoubtedly be quite painful. Quite thankfully, however, she was beginning to get the hand of her techniques. Placing the Seal of Absorption upon her left palm, she would begin to switch to the right palm before pausing. As a matter of fact, why did she place them both on different hands? Was it simply to look cool? It made no sense, from a practical perspective. If she had placed them both upon one hand, she could be forming hand signs with her other since it wouldn’t be preoccupied. It was a genius idea, if she said so herself. Pausing to place the sister seal to the first one she had placed, the Seal of Direction, she would smile down upon it. They didn’t look like much right now, if she was honest- more of a funky hand tattoo than anything else. Still, when it came to a fight, they would do her proud.

Placing her final technique at the base of her spine, she would finally slide out the scroll she was looking for the begin with- a similar volume to the one that she had learned the amplification technique she was using right this minute. The augmentation of her abilities was a valuable technique to have, especially if she was being honest about her capabilities and weaknesses. While she might be a capable summoner, her firepower was almost certainly lacking when compared to individuals like Sayatria or Daiko. Every little inch of additional firepower she could push out of her body would be welcome, even if she’d be tired out in the end. She could do it, if she tried hard enough. The path to Ninshu was difficult, but she would persevere.
