Much to Kato's surprise the situation de-escalated pretty easily, at first. The trio of sword wielding thugs had indeed backed off and waited outside when he had faced up to them. Kato stood as a sort of door man, blocking the entry to the workshop. It was crowded enough in there, the last thing they needed was large oaf's bashing around and damaging the fancy equipment. The idiom of a bull in a china shop came to mind, or in this case three bulls. "Now you three wait patiently, you'll get what you came for eventually. Someone has went to inform the alchemist."

Some time passed before Kato noticed the noble who had been speaking with the alchemist making his way out of the workshop. Kato moved to allow the frail looking man to pass and noticed the trio of goons suddenly spark into life. He realised that the frail noble was carrying a little jar containing the pills that the thugs sought and moved with the noble to provide protection. As the goons began their attempt to free the noble of his 'medication' Murata stepped through the open doorway, and a small scuffle broke out. Kato and Murata traded blows with the goons, distracting them and allowing the noble to scurry away at his slow frail pace. After a few minutes of melee Kato and Murata stood over the unconscious bodies of the thugs grinning and panting from the effort. "I was starting to worry that I would be of no use on this mission" Kato chuckled as he and Murata re-entered the workshop.

Now that there was a sense of calm about the alchemist's workshop the process that they were there for could be done a lot easier. Kazushi had read the manual and figured out the process, he pointed to different pieces of equipment and echoed the instructions from the manual before him. Kato felt out of his depth working the equipment but followed the instruction regardless, being extremely careful as he did. Mercury poisoning didn't sound fun and Kato really wanted to avoid that if he could. The team worked together well and eventually extracted enough mercury to satisfy their employer who momentarily disappeared into his office before returning with three vials of mercury held carefully in his hands. The alchemist gave them a warning about handling the mercury before ushering them out of the workshop and mentioning something about a court date.

"I knew something was suspicious about that alchemist. I wonder why he's been summoned to court, probably because of those 'miracle pills' he's been spinning" Kato thought to himself before saying farewell to the other mist shinobi and heading home.

The Terumi lad got to work, moving back and forward between setting up the equipment and coming back to the book to make sure he was taking each step properly. To his surprise, the trio of massive lads had heeded the advice of Kato and the chemist, and stepped out as though they were aristocrats initiated in the ways of etiquette and respect, something Kazushi did not expect from ones who dressed themselves and held themselves as mere highway bandits.

Gonk, who had confirmed himself to be Hoshigake -- a blatant truth already realized by the Terumi -- commented on how it was a pleasure to meet the blood of the old Kirigakure; the sentiment was indeed mutual, and as far as Kazushi could tell, there was no other place for their kind than in the new Kirigakure. What could possibly be the point of ones with such rich and violent history to allow their bloodlines to be used by villages and countries which had nothing to do with the Bloody Mist?

He followed the chemist as Murata entertained herself and the guests outside the door, the symphony of destruction weaving a tale of carelessness the Terumi didn’t feel he could partake in yet. All things done, the chemist presented them with a vial of mercury, the quicksilver dancing within. Taking to the door, Kazushi waved at them with his back turned. “Pleasure to have met ya”, he said as he disappeared.

As they were pondering what to do, the alchemist entered the room talking to a noble, who was holding a jar of pills.
“Could this be what those thugs were talking about?” Gonk wondered, as he looked at them. Murata and Kato left the room to protect the noble from the thugs outside, leaving Gonk and Kazushi to help the alchemist with his project. First, Gonk had to chip pieces of a reddish rock and place them in vials. Then, a solution of various chemicals Gonk had never even heard of were poured in. Finally, the vial was heated up until the rock dissolved and the solution became a silver looking liquid. They repeated this process several times until there were a couple dozen vials. The alchemist handed each of the ninja a vial of what he called “Mercury”. Although he cautioned doing just about anything with it. The alchemist then hurried them out, mentioning something about a court date, and his medicine. Gonk pocketed the vial, and followed the rest of the ninja out, noticing the loose nails in the door. As Gonk exited the building noticing some blood stains on the ground and building. Gonk waved goodbye to his fellow shinobi and walked home.
“If this stuff is dangerous I could probably use it as a poison or something,” Gonk thought as he unlocked the door to his apartment, glad that it was built properly. He wrapped the vial of mercury in a towel, not wanting to accidentally break it, then decided to go out and get some lunch.
