Sakana's Path to Chuunin pt 2

There was a war coming. A war that would go down in the history books. A war that would involve all the nations in the world. Even tho Sakana had not been there for Maku's speech he was informed that Maku had planned to take over the whole world. Sakana and his friends, Komon, Komori and Hitori would start off the invasions by heading off to the hidden rain village with a large civilian militia to take it over and establish an outpost. The Meijin boy not a huge fan of the war. He really did not like being the bad guy but he hoped Maku planned this attack for a bigger picture other than making Kumo one huge land. The main reason Sakana wanted to go on this mission was for the exploration aspect of it. Kumo ninja are not allowed out of the village till they are jounin or in some special cases chuunin. And since he was only a gennin himself this war would allow him to become not only stronger but also wiser. He would learn the customs of the rain village and get to see all the history behind the village. He had literally at this point seen everything he was allowed to in Kumo and it was time for things to change. His biggest fear with the mission would be that since he was one of four ninja going he would have to pull his own weight and the weight of all the civilians he would have to protect from danger. The gennin was not sure weather he could keep himself safe let alone the fact was after all he was only a gennin. As of right now the shinobi team consisted of two chuunin, Komon and Komori and two gennin, Sakana and Hitori. Could four low ranking ninja actually take over a whole village? They would get crushed by two jounin or a kage. The goal was to take the village without little resistance but you can never think you know what is going to happen in a war.

Still he did not really know how he felt about this, about the war. On one hand it kind of made since due to the natural order of things being messed up, to Sakana's knowledge there had not been a Great Ninja war in quite a long time and no village had been crazy enough to try to take on all of the other ones by them self but Kumo was Kumo and the citizens there did usually think themselves above everyone else. But on the other hand World Domination seemed insane why would the new General Maku think he could take on every village by himself? At first yeah moral is high but one the first loss hits every one will start to question if the war actually meant anything. Like for himself what is the benefit of being a good solider boy? Maybe he could get promoted and skip the chuunin exams, but to do that Sakana would need a lot of blood on his hands. The one good outcome would hopefully be that he would not be restricted to the Kumo border anymore instead he would be able to travel wherever he wanted to because well the whole world would be the Kumo border if they owned it. He knew he could not be the only one who had doubts. Komon and Komori were blind trustees in the higher power, he did not know why but that would be their downfall. The other member of his team Hitori, while he did not really know him, the Meijin had seen the look of doubt and frustration on his face the last time they had all met together. He has to feel the same way as Sakana right? But two gennin could not do anything by themselves because they were not strong enough to, Sakana needed to either get with the program and support the war or he needed to devise a plan.

Plans take a while he he decided that he would try to support the war and only think of the exploration aspect. But to be able to explore he needed to be stronger. He could just train but that still would not settle the citizens if he wanted people to trust him on the battle field he needed to be a chuunin. After the initial chuunin preliminary exam Sakana realized that the tests is no joke and in turn he needed to mentally prepare himself but to his surprise and delight when he got the second invitation for the chuunin exams in the mail he would just have to demonstrate three jutsu for some jounin and they would decide if he passed or failed. He was balls he was still considered fit to be a chuunin after his fist exam. Sakana would just need to wow them for this exam to allow them to continue with that confidence. It was good to hear there was no health risk this time as he was still in pain and hurting from the last exam. That had really messed him up. After being impailed in the shoulder by a Kunai and having his leg being crushed he almost died but instead was in a coma for two weeks. He did not really remember anything from those two weeks so when he woke up and was informed of the new military general maku and the kumo ninjas plan for world domination he was surprised. But back to his chuunin exam. He could easily perform three jutsu. . . He simply needed to decide which ones. None of the ones he really had were that impressive but they did have practical uses that he would be able to show off. That was the other thing he needed to worry about. The grader would be subjective he could get someone who likes flashy or something who likes Power or even worse some who hates water style techniques, so Sakana needed to be prepared for anything that could possibly be thrown at him.

What techniques though? This would be the most important matter in his head for the next length of time. He did not want to perform three water style techniques that would make him seem not well versed in being a ninja. So he could perform one water style just and two other jutsu. Well he did not have any A rank water style jutsu and it would take too long to master one and since water is his specialty he would have to go in with an ok technique. And any of his E or D rank techniques would not really impress anyone. So what B rank techniques did he water? Well really he only had two B rank techniques, water prison which involves water clones and it looks boring though, there are sealing techniques that do the same thing more efficiently and he would need someone to use it on and he figured the jounin would not want to volunteer to get trapped. So he instead he would perform the only other B rank he knew, the water shark bullet technique. This technique is visually appearing and it is pretty powerful. Hopefully there would be a water source for him if not it would be a total disaster and he would probably fail. So he was banking on a fountain or something. His book he had told of an exclusive skill that not many knew. He could not recall the name of the skill but he remembered the details. This skill would work like his mastery with the hidden mist jutsu, he would be able to use most water style with without a water source because he would just be pulling moisture from the air. It would solve his problem of worrying about a water source all the time but he did not have much time to learn it in such a short amount of time. Because he needed to learn an A rank technique. The only one he had was a stupid bird that he really did not care for. Sakana had learned the technique from Komon because he wanted to put his drawing skills to good use. From the beginning when he first drew the hawk it had caused him nothing but pain. The giant beast had first kicked him off when he first attempted to mount, and when he finally was able to get on the bird he got to fly it. Sakana’s awful fear of heights had caused the bird to disappear in mid air. Obviously he would not be able to show that jutsu to judges, if he was not confident of it himself he would not be able to convince a jounin that he was proficient in it. He thought of a different A rank, it was not a jutsu found in his Meijin book but instead was a jutsu that was famous around the whole ninja world for centuries. The A rank jutsu he was thinking of displayed Chakra control and power, it was called the rasengan. If Sakana was going to learn this jutsu he would have to do it quick, he knew his second chuunin preliminary exam involved time for training but there was no way he would be allowed to learn a new jutsu on the spot, especially an A rank jutsu. So instead of going home and resting up like he planned to do, the new plan was to go to the lake to train his rasengan. For his exam he decided to do an A rank, a B rank and a C rank. The gennin had already planned out the A and B rank jutsu but he needed to think of one for his C rank. He figured he would figure it out later so with that he headed off to the lake.

His trip to the lake did not take long as it pretty much became his second home and he could probably sleep walk his way there if needed. The great thing about the lake was that it was secluded. No one ever bothered him there and it was one of the only constants in his life. The lake never changed unless Sakana had broken a tree or something like that. Instead of walking along the lake as he usually did he decided to practice at the field surrounding the lake. This was because Sakana was about to learn the rasengan. A jutsu that would require his whole chakra concentration to perform so he could not waste any chakra on his feet to be able to stand on the water. The legend that was passed down was that before you could perform the rasengan you had to understand the rasengan. The user must spin their chakra into a ball. It is the first step in learning the technique because the rasengan is quite literally a spinning ball of chakra. The next step in learning the technique is the user had to focus all their chakra in one sharp burst in order to create immense power. When these two skills are combined the technique is formed and completed and the user then would use the spinning ball of chakra to harm their enemies. Usually Sakana had heard the technique being learn through the use of balloons and rubber balls. The Meijin had a few balloons on him but only two rubber balls so he could only practice each early stage around one time which was ok because he was super limited on time anyway.

So now it was time to try and perform the rasengan. Sakana inflated his balloon. This was the classic red balloon you would be able to find anywhere. The first step to learning the rasengan is being able to rotate your charka. Sakana prided himself on being able to control his chakra flow really well. It all started when he learned how to infuse his chakra with objects. That had to be at least a few months ago at this point. Sakana learned how to push his chakra out of his body to make it visible. After learning how to infuse his chakra he took his training to the next step, when komon had given Sakana a shinobi painter set to use, the Meijin had learned first how to become an artist and then he learned how to making his drawings come to life using his chakra. That is how Sakana achieved making his hawk drawing come to life. But the rasengan is something different it is not really infusing your chakra with anything but instead control your chakra expertly. There literally could be no doubts in your head of your ability to control chakra if this jutsu was to ever be powerful.

Holding the balloon in his hand Sakana began to imagine himself rotating his chakra. In his head this process would go over smoothly. He would force his chakra into his hand and then inside the balloon, the balloon would just pop really easily. So he had to try. As planned the chakra went into his hand then inside the balloon, once his chakra was inside the balloon he tried to spin the water in one direction, this did not work however it would not all spin in the same direction, instead plastic inside the balloon would jut out in all different direction. This was a big problem because he needed it to all spin in one direction if he ever hoped to pop the balloon in time. Sakana felt it pretty ironic that he could not control the water inside the balloon as he was supposed to be a powerful water ninja. But none the less he would have to keep practicing in order to master the first of three steps in order to perform the rasengan.

This time it would be different, Sakana focused on the water balloon. Focusing in manipulating the water would be kind of cheating because the rasengan was not made of water. So instead of just manipulating the water he placed his chakra back into the water, and started to spin it. This time he started to spin it clockwise, and since he had time ti train Sakana took it slow, the water started to flow around inside the balloon, he was controlling the speed. Once he got comfortable with it he started to go faster and faster. Soon the water was spinning at a rapid rate and the balloon was expanding along side it. The Meijin decided to give it one strong push and the water spun so fast that the balloon popped. The soon to be chuunin had completed the first step in learning the rasengan.

The second step was to be far harder in comparison though. Sakana dug through his bag to find the rubber ball he had brought with him. The next step was controlling how much chakra he put into the rasengan. The gennin would need to pop this rubber ball in order to complete the chakra flow. There was no water to aid his efforts inside this rubber ball so he would have a much harder time completing it. With the ball in his hand Sakana. In order to pop the ball Sakana would be forced to expend a large amount of chakra that would be dense enough to pop the balloon. There was not really a set method or procedure in doing this, Sakana had heard that learning this from a teacher made the process much easier but the gennin needed to learn to do things himself especially if the worst case scenario happened and he was placed in a life threatening situation without his comrades. His mid shifted back to his thought process of learning the rasengan. In his hand faced a challenge that needed to be dealt with, a rubber ball needed to be popped. It was his current mission as a shinobi to pop this ball, because after all this still was not the hardest task he would face with the rasengan, he still need to actually make a rasengan. Sakana channeled a large amount of chakra into his arm, there really was no better way to do it because unlike the first task where it The required lots fluid movements this task required one fast fluid motion in order to pop the balloon. So Sakana could see the chakra flowing from his arm it was actually visible. This is how he knew his strength was enough to pop the rubber ball. He knew the ball was going to pop, he was so confident in his ability to achieve his task. In one fast effort he quickly forced the chakra out of his arm into the balloon. At first he thought he had failed because nothing had happened but it just must have been a delayed reaction because the rubber ball did pop. And Sakana was proud of himself.

The next and final step for learning this technique was to actually perform the rasengan. Sakana would have to combine his first task of spinning his chakra with the second task of making his chakra strong in order to create the rasengan ball. This would be the A rank move he would perform at his chuunin exam, this is the technique that will defeat his opponents in the war ahead. This is the technique that will make Sakana the ninja he always wanted to become and all he needed to do was use his chakra to create some ball. There was no way he was going to fail this. IN simple terms all he had to do was create a ball. In complex terms he needed to perfectly use the perfect amount of chakra and spin it into a ball.

Sakana looked out over the lake maybe there was some way he would be able to one day combine the rasengan with water but this really was not an issue during this time. Now with nothing in his hand the gennin’s next goal was to create the rasengan. The Meijin extended his left hand out in front of him, he was right hand dominant so that hand would do the spinning. He started to spin his right hand above his left hand. He was already visualizing the chakra ball there was not really any doubt in his mind that this was going to work. So as the chakra flowed from his arm into his right hand it started to spin faster he watched the blue start to appear, he felt his chakra surging inside himself the ball was now fuly formed in his hand, but another thing Sakana remembered about this technique is that it did not last very long, so he turned to a nearby tree and let loose. He felt the tree shatter upon impact with his hand, the rasengan had been completed.

Now that he had completed learning his A rank jutsu he still needed to learn a non water C rank jutsu, he thought about a Taijutsu move or something but he did not really enjoy doing those, he needed to find a jutsu that he would love doing he looked to his bag that was filled with his weapons, he saw his new katana peeking out the side because it was too big to fit in the bag. Sakana wondered if he think of a C rank technique that would involve him showing off with his katana. In a book he read a while ago about weapons he remembered what the book said the downfall of the katana was, you needed precision because only one half of the sword was a blade. Sakana also remembered the books solution to this problem. It was a technique called Sakura first step, this allowed the user to use their chakra as an extension of the blade in order to make both sides sharp. This would also demonstrate his chakra control like the rasengan. He decided this will be his C rank technique that he will use to impress the jounin judges. When he pulls the blade and his sheath out of his bag the sword still felt awards in his hands. Up until this point the only real practice he would have gotten with it was when he was cutting up trees in the woods when he was given his assignment to go to the rain for the war. So what a better time to practice than right now. He drew the blade from the sheath and practiced some cuts in the air. There was an improvement since his last time using it, it was probably because he had gotten his rest and healed from being in a coma. Once again chakra infusion was beginning to be one of the best skill he had developed because literally it is needed for many techniques in the ninja world.

Since Sakana had just learned the rasengan he figured this technique should not really be an issue for him. The Meijin hand just focused all his chakra into his hands before transferring it into the blade. He watched as the charka became visible on his hands, he noticed as he keep developing his Meijin abilities his chakra turned from the silver color it used to be into a more blueish color. Sakana started the transfer of his chakra into the blade. The gennin watched as his chakra started to engulf the blade but the technique had not fully worked on this first try, the chakra only went to the flat side of the blade, while in theory this would be ok it did make the sword unbalanced, so Sakana knew he needed to try again. This time as he focused his chakra into the blade he imagined the whole blade being engulfed, from the top of the hilt to the top of the blade. This time the technique had worked, the blue chakra had become visible around the whole katana. Of course looks can be deceiving so Sakana needed to test this out. As he looked closer though the chakra did not just look like normal chakra instead the chakra looked as if they were sakura petals, appearing and disappearing around the blade. Sakana walked over to his a tree at the lake and started to cut with the blade edge first. The tree had some slash marks in it, but he really needed to test out the flat of the blade, as his katana was in the tree a leaf started to fall off the tree and the gennin realized that if he could hit the leaf it would be a good show of reaction timing and his new technique. So Sakana cut from the side with out flipping his blade over, it still cut through the leaf meaning that the jutsu was successful. With achieving these two techniques Sakana decieded to go home and rest so that he would be in best condition for the next day. On his walk home he figured that he would show the Sakura first step first, then the shark bullet and then finish up his exam with the rasenagn. He planned out how the exam would go in his head before sleeping.

Sakana woke up really early the next day. He did not want any chance of him being late so he ate breakfast and got dressed in record timing in order to get on his way to the place where he would be tested. The gennin knew there was no need to be in a rush as he was an hour early already but for some reason he felt a sense of urgency to get there quickly. On his way there Sakana went though the plan a few more times in his head before he saw the building he would be arriving in. He remembered the feeling of confidence he had before the last exam, and then the sense of defeat he felt once falling into that coma. This time there was no risk of death so Sakana was more confident than ever. Upon walking in he basically felt like he had already been there the waiting room was the same layout as the one for the first exam. Sakana walked up to the man sitting at the desk again so he could check in. The man explained that Sakana was very early to make sure he understood. Sakana explained that he did understand and that he would be happy to wait however long it was necessary. The man replied that the jounin examiners were not there yet but Sakana would be welcomed to train in the room before hand, and if he was already trained it would go much faster and he would be the first student done. Sakana happily accepted his offer and headed into the room in front of him.

Sakana looked in awe of this room, his earlier fear of no water source was gone when he discovered that the jounin were smart enough to create an environment in which any ninja of any element for specialty would be able to thrive. In one corner it was all stone, tress and grass, Sakana figured that would be fore earth, fire and wind style users in order from them to be able to show off their moves, in the other corner was a small pool looking area which would be best suited for water style users and maybe lightning style users in order to show off how they are able to fry the water. Then on the other side of the room was a bunch of training dummies. These would probably be best used for taijutsu, and weaponry specialties. So that they would be able to demonstrate their moves on dummies in stead of ninja. There really was not an area for genjutsu, space time, or puppetry but Sakana figured that was because they did not require any thing really all they needed was some open space which would be provided for them. So with that in mind Sakana went to train. He decided to train as if the judges were already there so he headed over to the training dummies, they were made of lots of different woods parts, the parts looked removable so the gennin figured that they were part of the test to show your accuracy and precision when hitting them. The idea was to control you strikes so the dummies would not have to be replaced but only put back together instead. The Meijin pulled the katana from its sheath, he did as he always did when doing that and practiced a few swings in the air first, once he was ready he summoned his chakra into his katana and perfectly sliced the dummies lower half off and without stopping he sliced to upwards breaking off the arm in the process. He figured that was a success so he would move on but first he walked over to the dummy and put it back together to display proper etiquette even though he was currently the only one in the room. He then headed over to the small pool. This is the place he would be performing his water shark bullet technique. As he always did when performing ninjutsu he got into a ready stance before he would do the technique, when he was ready he did the hand seals Tiger → Ox → Dragon → Hare → Dog → Bird → Rat → Clone seal → Dragon → Ram and the shake that appeared in font of him took up about a fourth of the pool so instead of showing off its speed Sakana would have to show off its power instead. The trees that were next to the pool would come in handy because Sakana would need to destroy one of them. HE practiced making the shark swim around but he did not want to break the tree yet because he wanted to wait for the jounin to get there first. So once he felt confident in that technique he dispelled the shark and headed back towards the training dummies. But when he got there Sakana feared for the power of the rasegan would be too much for the dummy and destroy it negating the purpose of making the parts removeable. So instead he would use a dummy for the real technique but would pratice now with a water clone.

Sakana summoned a water clone and explained the situation, the water clone was not happy that he was about to have a spinning ball of chakra connect with his chest but after he was done complaining he said he was ready to get hit. The real Sakana took a few steps back from clone Sakana. The Meijin extended his left hand in order to complete the rasengan. His right handed started to spin faster and faster as the blue chakra ball started to form in his hand. He charged the clone and planted the rasengan directly into its chest. The gennin watched as his clone flew through the air with a hurt look on his face, after traveling around five feet the clone disappeared and its memories came flooding into Sakana’s head. He felt as he had just himself experienced how much getting hit by the rasengan would hurt and he made a mental note in his head to just use it for combat situations. As if this was planned once Sakana was done the rasengan and managed to catch his breath the three jounin judges walked though the door. They all looked pretty average for ninja, they all had black hair and they were all wearing their jounin flak jackets.

Once the chuunin walked through the door the took a seat at the table that was placed closed to the door. The jounin in the middle was obviously in charge and then he began to speak. “ All right my file here says you’re name is Sakana Meijin, I have never head of you and that is not always a bad thing, so let me explain to you have this process is going to work, I see you have already trained on your own so we can get right into it. You will perform your three practice jutsu. These techqniques should be completed without fail and fast, we do not have a lot of time so you cant waste anyone’s time. This test is graded on a pass fail system, so here we have myself and two other judges we will evalualte your process and then at the end we will say weather you passed or failed, you only need two of us to say you passed to pass, so don’t get discouraged if one of us fails you we are all looking out in your best interest because we do not want any chuunin who can not handle themselves. We are trained to be silent and show no emotions during the exam so I will say good luck one last time and you can start when you are ready.”

Well that was quite the pep talk Sakana thought to himself. Well even though the jounin are intimidating they really can not effect the process. All Sakana had to do is train the same way way he did earlier but this time there would be a few spectators, after all he should enjoy showing off he put in the work, he earned this. He decided to make it a presentation and talk the judges though what he was doing even though they judges would not respond. He walked over to the dummies. “Judges today I will perform three jutsu for you, I will perform a C rank, a B rank , and an A rank technique in that order. First my C rank technique is the Sakura first step. It is a weaponry technique that will demonstrate my charka control, it allows my whole Katana to be a blade instead of just of just one side being the blade.”

Sakana would then walk over to the dummy and unsheathe his his Katana, the gennin would begin to infuse his chakra into the blade, the blue would shine through as the Sakura looking pedals would appear and disappear around the blade. The Meijin sliced the bottom of the dummy not breaking it but perfectly through the cracks so he could put it back together after. Without skipping a heart beat he forced the blade up cutting off the arm of the dummy.

Sakana would then walk over to the pool, “Judeges, I demonstrated my abilities with weaponry jutsu and now I will demonstrate my ability with water ninjutsu, this move is called water shark bullet.” The gennin moved closer to the pond and did the hand signs Tiger → Ox → Dragon → Hare → Dog → Bird → Rat → Clone seal → Dragon → Ram and the shark appeared in font of them, Sakana began to make the shark swim around the water very quickly. After the judges would have seen the shark swim Sakana rammed the shark into the nearby tree crushing it.

The gennin walked back to the dummies, “Judges I have one final technique to perform I believe this technique will best show my ability to mold and control chakra. This is a favorite technique among many people. My final A rank ninjutsu technique will be the rasengan. “ Before he were going to start The meijin thought over his what was happening, he was so close to finishing. He ran over to the dummy, with his left hand extended. His right hand started to spin over and over the blue ball started to form he was going to complete this. He watched the chakra spin, with all his force he planted the rasengan onto the center of the dummy shattering it in the process. Sakana was sweating at this point catching his breath. “ I believe I have demonstrated great control of chakra, I ask you three judges to pass me and allow me to move on to the next chuuin preliminary exam.

The judges started to converse while Sakana stood in front of them. The talked it over and the middle one started to speak. “Sakana, just want to give you some comments before we give you are decision. Personally we thought it was cleaver choosing a C rank, a B rank, and a A rank, while we would have preferred only one ninjutsu technique but the rasengan was a perfect display of chakra handling and control. We all believe you did really well and for that reason we reached a unamious decision that you passed, good luck on the rest of your exams and we hope that you will pass, we believe that you will become a great chuunin. You can leave when you are ready, there are other students waiting after you.”

Sakana was overjoyed, he had passed and better yet he was complimented more than once, this was an amazing improvement from being put into a coma from these exams, Sakana thanked the jounin and headed out the door. As he walked out the building he noticed over ten students in the waiting room trying to complete the same goal of Sakana. The Meijin was really happy that he had gotten there early because it would have killed him to have to wait for like two hours.

Sakana started on his way home, there was one more chuunin preliminary exam before he would be allowed to take the last three exams. He was ready to take those exams, he may try to get his last preliminary done before the war but it may not work out that way, either way he would become a chuunin. He will become a great ninja that will be remembered for the years to come. War, is most likely Sakana’s next step in life, but he would be able to handle whatever challenges awaited him next.
