Supply Run - Practicing Stealth (Mission)

Missions:

Kouji took a deep breath in, and then a deep breath out. He needed to be prepared for this mission. He was supposed to infiltrate the building in front of him and destroy the rebel's supplies. It was his first mission that involved stealth/being covert. His father had trained him well in this regard, but he knew he was nothing compared to other ninja he had met. Izu flashed through his mind her silent, graceful movements the mark of a true ninja. It had been no trouble at all for her to sneak up on him. On multiple occasions no less. He knew he shouldn't compare himself to her, but he couldn't help it. She had utterly schooled him during their bank maintenance mission, barely exerting any effort at all to take him down and teach him an important lesson. So he continued to breathe and took measured controlled breaths. He would not shame his village by failing the mission, let alone getting caught.

As he moved on from his breath work, he tapped down his clothing on the lookout for anything that felt loose or may make any noise. On finding none he catalogued his clothes for the tenth time that night, ensuring his face was obscured and nothing on him could give away his village affiliation. His headband wasn't on him tonight. He had just earned it, but he already felt bare without it. That headband was a mark of his hard work and dedication to his village. But it would be an obvious marker to point to his origins if he got caught tonight. Outside of that, he wore a sleek, black outfit with a tight scarf pulled him to obscure the lower half of his face. He was wearing his special weighted and chakra-infused glasses that stayed in position on his face, regardless of how he moved.

With that last catalogue he sighed. He had no further reason to wait, in fact, he probably should have started half an hour ago. He pushed down the butterflies in his stomach and ran up the back of the building, utilizing the tree climbing technique he had learned on his promotion to Genin. As he rose to the top of the building he peered in through an open window. With no obvious guards in sight, he rolled in as quietly as he could. As he stood up he made sure all of his movements were methodical, if not slow. He was aware of each part of his body as they moved with a precise measured quality. Each one was accounted for and moved no more than was needed to ensure no excess sound was created.

He surveyed the room and knew he wasn't at his destination. It seemed to be an office of some kind. Some documents were left sprawled on a desk but a quick look told him they were nothing important. No, his purpose was in the main part of the building, the warehouse. He quickly stalked towards the door and paused beside it. Upon hearing nothing immediate beyond he slowly turned the knob of the door and pushed the door open.

He was on an upper walkway in the warehouse. It seems this office was the overseer's room which placed him in an ideal position to get to the supplies he needed to sabotage. He tried to peer through the dark, it' black embrace both a boon to him, an unwanted intruder, and also a curse. He waited for his eyes to adjust further and was rewarded for his patience. He spotted two guards walking diligently around the lower complex, opposite each other and in opposing patterns. He had hoped for less lively sentries, but he knew he couldn't catch a break on every mission. He was surprised no one was guarding the upper levels, but he supposed the important items were down below. He carefully formed the handseal to transform into a crow and fluttered down onto crates in the center of the floor below.

He waited as another guard passed close to his hiding spot and then released the technique. Then it became more a battle of attrition and patience than anything else. Now aware of the guard's pattern he slowly made his way around the complex, searching crates for the supplies he was meant to destroy, ryo. It was sad that he wasn't allowed to steal any, his Genin allowance didn't count for much. But his instructions had been explicit, to ruin the money and leave it as both a warning and a message. He soon noticed a symbol on the crates with ryo in them that helped him identify and thus quicken his efforts. With each crate he found he used his prepared water scrolls to release water with the water sealing technique. The bills became drenched until the point they became about as valuable as mulch.

This wasn't to say he didn't have some close calls. At times he would miscount the number of minutes until the next guard came round, or perhaps they swiftened their pace. Regardless on a few occasions, he had to quickly come up with a solution as he heard the approach of footsteps. A well-used transformation technique or a well-positioned hiding spot was enough to keep him from alerting his enemies. But Kouji knew he was lucky. He would need to practice his stealth in the future and learn additional techniques to aid him if he hoped to take on even more difficult missions.

Finally, with a final crate doused with the last of his scrolls, he knew he had combed the whole warehouse. And with the sentries none the wiser! He quickly transformed once again into a bird to rise to the upper level and used his tree-climbing technique to exit the building. As he escaped the premises he let out a sigh of relief. The mission was complete. He hoped he could find someone to celebrate with. This mission had a whole new level of stakes that he hadn't had to face before. There would be no Izu in the future pretending to be enemy. Instead, his wits and abilities as a ninja would be the only thing between him and success, or failure. Life or death. He let out a large breath at the thought and closed his eyes for a moment. Then he shook himself and moved on into the night.
