Summoning the Oni

For Jecht it today had started as a pretty normal day, decent weather and nothing really of note had been going on. Though he felt a vibration coming from his communication gauntlet that was connected to a whole information network that some bigwigs had put together so that all shinobi in the village could tell who belonged to the village and who didn’t. He had been told that those of higher ranking could see way more information then he currently could and that was eye-opening to how many people lived in the village and the capabilities of the village as a whole.

Back to the vibration coming from his gauntlet as he opened up the display he saw a message for him directly from the Hokage or Jecht assumed someone who worked closely with the Hokage as it really just said it was from their office. Regardless of who it was from, it was a summons for Jecht to make himself present there within the hour, of course which meant that Jecht was there as long as it took to sprint from where he was to the appropriate building. Once he arrived at the building housing the Hokage’s Chambers he greatly slowed down and while he had no issue strutting around in his half nakedness as he had definitely earned that from the work he had been doing around the village. Jecht knew that he at least needed to keep things professional as he could since he was going to be meeting with the Lord Hokage Aokidanza.

Their first meeting had been rocky to say the least, with Aokidanza appearing in that snow covered village holding a corpse of an enemy shinobi wearing some of the formers blood on his body exuding an aura that felt like tar and poison. Once the misunderstanding had been cleared though things had progressed smoothly. Jecht had even received his promotion from Genin to Chuunin at that interaction.

Moving through the building he was shown into the building and escorted to the Hokage’s Chamber where the escort knocked and upon receiving some kind of affirmation opened the door and directed Jecht inside to which Jecht promptly did.

There in the chambers themselves Jecht had a moment of awe as he had never been in here even when joining the village years ago, so this was a moment of interest. A quick scan brought Jecht back to focus as he spotted those who had called him for this summons, “Greetings Lord Hokage, Jecht reporting as ordered.” Jecht said with alert tone, this was his leader, his boss so they deserved the upmost respect.

Cold, steely, eerie gazes would find the Ogre, Aokidanza and Yachiru both were peering across the room at the Oni. The tall Yōkai stood at 6’5 ft and he was, for whatever reason, under-dressed. But, Aokidanza would have been lying to himself if he didn’t expect this from him. After all, his first meeting of him was pretty much the same attire, more or less. Give or take a shirt.

“Jecht, it is good to see you in fair health. You Ushitora of the flames have a remarkable plethora of uses for flames other than destruction. I’d be wise to remember that.”

He smiled, simultaneously extending and outstretching his arm and hand for the shinobi to take a seat at one of the two spare chairs before his desk. He would give him time to do so. In the same fashion, the beautiful Yachiru would gaze at the man, she eyed him from head to toe, and no (Jecht) she was not in awe of his physique, she was contemplating on how she would kill him for stepping foot in Aokidanza’s chambers dressed like he was. The Demon was known for being aware of all things around him, even this. Raising his free hand to signal that she ceased her impulses immediately.

“I must say, I’m almost thrilled to see you again, Jecht. There have been quite the buzz within the village as of late. Your name seems to be connected with it. You’ve contributed a lot to the village these last few weeks and I want to be the first to tell you…I am thankful.”

What?! Did The Demon actually tell someone that he was thankful for them? Was this a jest, a means to lower one’s guard? No. He was genuine in his wording. He meant it. Jecht has been putting in a great deal of work as of late and it did not go unnoticed by the Hokage, or the Deputy for that matter.

The village hidden in the leaves have been bolstering since Aokidanza came to join it. And Gen more since he ascended to lead it. There have been some questionable characters within the walls of the village that would quite frankly concern others, but for Aokidanza it was like any other encounter. He wanted to see where Jecht head was at and the only way to do that…

“So tell me, Jecht, what is your stance on genocide?”

His question came off so naturally, yet held an air of malevolence.

The cold, serious stares of Aokidanza and his assistant could be felt on the exposed body of the only shorts and sash wearing Ushitora, he knew that someone would find issue with his outfit but frankly while he did respect Aokidanza and the position he held Jecht hadn’t been told that he needed to dress up for this occasion. Should Aokidanza find issue with his outfit, that is when Jecht himself would change it for future summonings until then he would remain as he was. The feeling that Lord Aokidanza gave during their missions in that winter village was one that made you know that if he had an issue with you or what you said or did he would say as much and it was best to allow the man himself to inform you with his words or actions before just assuming you knew better.

The woman standing who was clearly an assistant to Lord Aokidanza was eyeing Jecht as openly as a person could, Jecht wasn’t foolish or bold enough to think that someone that was selected to be the assistant to the Hokage would be “checking” him out. If Jecht guessed right she was probably wondering what kind of person showed up to the Hokage’s chamber in so little clothes and with no hint of shame at doing so. Was it cockiness? Was it a slight against her master? Jecht could almost see these type of thoughts cross the woman’s face though it wasn’t any visual twitch that made him think of this it was just a standard assumption when it came to people who served powerful masters.

Lord Aokidanza spoke about how the Ushitora of flames could use their abilities for more then just destroying and it would be wise of him to remember that. Though Jecht already had similar ideas for his Clan’s usage of the elements, after all he wielded his own abilities to train, teach and protect others.
“Of Course Lord Hokage.” Jecht said with a slight bow to his words. Then when Lord Aokidanza gestured to the seats in front of his desk Jecht would take this time to sit in the one on the right facing the desk, which would be Lord Aokidanza’s left.

There was praise from the Hokage for Jecht’s own contributions to the village as of late, he was reminded once more of the interaction that the two of them had had back in that snow where Lord Aokidanza had offered words of praise for his prior contributions and promoted him to Chunin back then.

“Thank you, Lord Hokage. I only do what I must for the village that took me in all those years ago.” Jecht said with a somber tone. A moment of confusion passed over Jecht’s face at Aokidanza’s next question not because of the subject but the suddenness of it.

“My stance on Genocide, Milord?” Jecht repeated back to Aokidanza not as a way to question him but to make sure he had heard him correctly though the look on Lord Aokidanza’s face told Jecht that he had heard it correctly.

“I believe it would depend on the circumstances surrounding it. If it is done for simple action with no cause then I wouldn’t agree with it as that is just plain murder and taking life for no better than reason then boredom or entertainment is something I find wrong.” Jecht would begin to explain his thoughts on the matter.

“Genocide with a just cause behind it, a retaliation from an attack on our village, against our people, against ourselves would be something I could come to accept as long as other options had been explored first. The one thing about Genocide as an option is that you must make sure you have the power, focus and determination to see it through to the last individual because if even one person were to survive you have simply allowed the chance of a enemy being able to grow and return the favor.” Jecht thought as while he would rather never have to go so far as to wipe out an entire group of people on the scale to be called Genocide, it was something that happened in this world. Clans disappeared overnight in massive wars due to minor infractions and major alike, his own stance on it wouldn’t change the simple truth of how violent and war driven this world was and he saw no reason to try and change the world to stop it.

To much pampering and coddling would only bred a society that was weak and spoiled making for easy prey for those of the world who didn’t care about the rules and regulations of Society and lashed out at any who were weaker than themselves. This world was built on Might makes Right and it would continue to do so till someone had such overwhelming power to stop all fighting, which Jecht believed it would take nothing short of a literal god to do so.

“At the end of the day Lord Hokage, My stance on Genocide is that it’s a last option against an enemy that truly deserves it.” Jecht would say with a serious tone in his voice that matched the seriousness of the topic being discussed.

A grin appeared on the face of The Conqueror, subtle, but it indicated his interests in the thought process of Jecht. Did he expect the Ushitora to be as enthusiastic as Yachiru about bloodshed to that degree? No. If he was truthful, like he always is, Aokidanza didn’t see that in the man. In fact, he didn’t want that from him. The Demon surrounds himself with anchors that will benefit him, as well as balance him. Yachiru she was just as bloodthirsty as he, perhaps even more it was difficult to say. Her only heart desire is to battle strong opponents and bathe in their life’s nectar. Tooru a behemoth of a man, a destroyer who only finds purpose in chaos and sadistic means that questions his very humanity. Ooetsu, kind and gentle as they come, somewhat of a saint who only dreams of creating armor and weapons for those that he love and wish to protect. Takara, the human form which embodies Aokidanza’s human side. All of them possess their own natures, but also a piece of Aokidanza.

Yet, Jecht held something more rooted that even the Demon recognized as a part of himself. Principles. Despite what others may say or think of the Senju, Aokidanza possess unbreakable principles that allowed him to move with which reckoning. The words that came from the shinobi resonated with the The Hokage.

“I see. So that is how you view that word. That definition. But what if I told you that genocide was nothing more than a word? It holds no true weight, not for humans at the very least. Animals, in the history of their existence we haven’t ever heard of them mass murdering. We do often from time to time learn of them killing for sport, but that is merely an adaptation they inherited from watching mankind poach and slaughter their kind for pelts, horns, tusks, claws and teeth. By nature humans are savaged creatures, more feral than beasts. More feral than even you and myself I might add. So the word was creature to bring shame to their nature, to their pointless and otherwise seen gruesome behaviors. And yet, we have systems set in place where genocide is deem the only reasonable action against a threat, or means of vengeance, revenge, justice, condemnation…the list can go on.”

He stood from his seat, making his way over to the front of Jecht, where he would sit at the edge of his desk to maintain eye contact. The Demon leaned forward, close enough to make it personal, but not so close to make it feel odd. He would whisper to the Ushitora.

“Allow me to enlighten you. I have lived long enough to see the beginning of a great eruption take place which bleed into what you see now. I have seen many an empire built only to be felled within a single night. I have seen fear engulf many of nations while blood stain the very land that we walk upon. I’ve learned that nothing comes without a responds. You cannot have love without hatred. Peace without war. Order without chaos. Life without death. It is the natural law of things. Just as all that I’ve said before. Humans are more cruel than any monster we have seen. They are manipulative and cunning enough to influence the thinking of many with a mere word. When you hear the word “Genocide” you are programmed to think negatively. But if you were there, like I was to witness all that took place before you were even thought of you would not be programmed to think that way. Instead you will see it for its true meaning…”Noble Killer”.”

He then lean back, his Sharingan fixed on the man as he allowed his words to seep into the confines of his mind and root. Did he want Jecht to be a mass murderer? Not at all. He wanted him to instead relinquish any negative thoughts or feelings on what was apart of him already. He would take a moment, exhaling before taking another breath.

“Jecht, I see a lot of myself within you, believe it or not. Of course it was when I was but a mere child, but even then I shared your perspective. I was but 5 years of age when I was introduced to the act of mass murder. I watched as both my parents were slughtered before me due to pointless war that bleed into home country. Taking everything from me and leaving me to defend myself. My father did his best to protect my mother and myself. But he was too week of an Uchiha to do so. His Sharingan was but two tomoes. Then my mother did her best to protect me from the savages that took her body and defiled her before and after her death before me. It was then that I woke to my true nature. Blacking out in that moment I came to only to find the land drenched in blood, splintered with branches as several thousand unknown shinobi were laid to waste by a mere child of 5 years of life.”

He paused as he reflected on that day. It was a constant reminder of who he was and what he had become and why he does what he does. Like humans, Aokidanza was a monster, a product of his environment. Inheriting the actions that he seen other humans commit.

In the midst of his wait he would receive a message mentally and as he did he would have to cut things short. Informing the Ushitora that he would need to leave. He would then inform him that he was promoted to be Warden of the Konoha Prison as a reward to his efforts. After which he would wait for him to leave the office and he would then and only then leave as well.

But before then he would give him a scroll and instruct him to learn Inferno release and create a Tai based inferno release Jutsu by the time he returns.

After Jecht had given his thoughts and stance on how he viewed the act of Genocide and what were his conditions on what would allow him to be accepting of its execution upon others, it was now time for Lord Hokage Aokidanza to give his thoughts and impart knowledge onto Jecht. Things that were going to be said by the man in front of him would reveal things about Aokidanza that Jecht had no prior knowledge of and more into the age, life experiences and thought process of said individual. Aokidanza began his reply speaking on how the word Genocide was simply a word without any true weight something that had been made to cause humans as a species and collective to be repulsed of and a way to suppress their own innate desire for cruelty and capacity to do horrid things unto others. It was a way for society to curb the whole and control the masses, after all it was hard to rule a group if that group is fill with people who didn’t care for your words. It reflected back into how this world was truly one built on the expression of “Might makes Right”, without the power and strength to back up the words you must build a society that fears itself and regulates its inner self with laws and rules. Not every leader of the masses was some glorious warrior at times they were simply the best spoken.

Aokidanza didn’t simply stop at his thoughts on the word and definition of Genocide, he continued to explain to Jecht on how he has been around since the Great Eruption, a historical event that even Jecht had learned about when he was younger that was hundreds of years ago. A curious look crossed Jecht’s face at this bit of information after all, the man in front of him looked to be barely in his 30s if not late 20s. Not one that has existed for longer then most villages had been around. It would explain some things that Jecht had heard about the former Missing Ninja, the air of control that exuded from the man in front of him. There are something that truly only come to a person with age and personality.

Jecht sat there listening as Aokidanza leaned close and whispered the information to him, Jecht being closer to the Hokage than he had been prior. Being able to get a real good look at his face and what he looked like, he committed it to his memory. The 3 tomoe Sharingan looking straight into the Ushitora’s own red eyes, funny that the public of Konohagakure knew the old warning to never look a Uchiha in the eye due to the immense control and power of genjutsu that they held and yet here was Jecht doing just that. Not that Lord Aokidanza would need to put Jecht into a Genjutsu to dispatch him, Jecht had felt that aura and knew that in his current form Jecht was no match for Aokidanza. If he was lucky he might be able to land a hit on him before his life was snuffed out like the flame of a candle in the wind.

Learning Aokidanza’s past even such a small bit was knowledgeable, it allowed Jecht an insight to the character of his Hokage. A past filled with strife and conflict, one most rarely dealt with in this time, as always he was simply learning with ever interaction.

Then there was a moment of silence where it felt that Jecht was expected to respond to the words of his Hokage, but it was Lord Aokidanza that filled that gap informing Jecht that he was needed for something and would have to cut this summons short. Though with that information Jecht was also informed that he was now to be the Warden of the Prison as a promotion to Jounin and such a high position in the village. He was also being allowed to learn Konohagakure’s Advanced Element of Inferno, with such a reward Jecht was then tasked with creating a Taijutsu based technique with the element and Aokidanza expected it to be completed before he would return from the important matter he was going to take care of.

“Of course Lord Hokage, I will learn this element quickly and create a suitable technique to go with it.” Jecht said as he arose from his seat to accept the scroll that had the information on how to learn the element and headed to the door, giving a bow before exiting the chambers. It was time to focus on learning this new element and begin his training and creation of a brand new technique. Jecht had a million things running through his head, but he was looking forward to proving himself with each new assignment.
