The flow of seasons

“Thanks for your patronage lads, hopefully we never have to darken one another’s doorsteps in the future.”  He said as he watched each of the unconscious bastards soon disappeared as they were transported back to their home dimensions.  He put his hands into his pockets and then yawned as he walked back out of the tent.  He looked at a map he had taken from one of the thugs and noticed that to the west of the fairgrounds is a fairly popular town and he began to make his way there.  

It took him roughly 40 minutes of walking at his own pace to see the gates of the place, he let out a long whistle as he was astounded with the looks of the place…he was expecting some sort of backwoods style village, but to his amazement it looked fairly modern, even having a few things he wished he could see in Hoshigakure.  The gates were manned by guards on horseback and as he approached he noticed that the armor that the guards wore was a bit more advanced as well in terms of techniques used to strengthen the metal that was there.  When he was finally let in, he made sure to make his way towards the first smithy that he could find.

He found the first smithy on the eastern edge of the village, aptly named “The Blazing Horseshoe”  and at a quench trough was a portly man who was just finishing a katana for some unnamed customer.  The work was exquisite with a pattern along the metal that reminded Yamato of teardrops, the back of the blade looked ominous as the young shinobi stepped up onto the worn lumber flooring.  The place had definitely seen better days and the blacksmith knew that as well, but from the various pieces of metal around the actual shop area of the smithy…he was at least busy so Yamato waited until the quench as done and the blacksmith took the cooling blade and walked to a massive grindstone.  

“I am looking for a small sword, something specialized that I may be able to keep on me and hidden at all times, but with a sheath that can be utilized with a mixture of black powder and metal shavings to impair the vision of anyone that wishes to attack me while I am here.”  He explained as the blacksmith just continued to do his work, He did not once pay attention to Yamato as he had to finish the job he had originally started, but there was…a difference in the smith’s breathing.

The smith agreed to his commission, asking for 200 tickets for the entire construction, and Yamato was more than happy to pay for it.  He handed over half of the tickets up front because it was easy to solidify the deal that way.  The smith was renowned for his exemplary craftsmanship along with his near inhuman speed in which he was able to get his work done.  As Yamato watched he saw what worked for the smith; strength and dexterity…

His dexterity was something to learn from as he studied how he moved each time, the way he swung the hammer on the metal, and the amount of force used when doing so each time.  The varied angles and techniques used made Yamato question what he had seen back in Hoshigakure.  But after a day and a half he had finished the blade and sheath.  All the parts needed for the tanto style blade were assembled and he was shown the hidden mechanisms at the cap of the sheath that could contain a small amount of powdery mix to utilize as an offensive or defensive piece.  Yamato was grateful, and during this time he had finally accepted that in order to gain strength in this dimension…he would need the tickets to remain, so he would hunt the hunters and take their tickets so he can further train his mind and body.

He spent the better part of the next few days hunting the scum that preyed upon those that had either just arrived or had been trailing unsuspecting targets.  The blade he bought was a perfect tool for incapacitating his foes, and especially well rounded to allow him to escape from the guards so that he could escape a safe distance, but after a few days of preying upon hunters…they were starting to get the gist of things and they began to prepare traps and hunt more selectively.  The thing with this was, is it allowed him to find better prey this way for himself…and even if they did not have ALL of their tickets stolen…they would lead him back to an even better cache of tickets for him to graciously remove from the hands of bandits.  In the end does it justify what he was doing, or was he no better than those that he was taking from…well that kind of question was best worried about with someone that held a real moral compass…Yamato had long since abandoned such a thing in favor of doing things his way, had he not been brought back to the village of Hoshigakure he would still…be a wandering blade in the swamps of Amegakure ruins.
