The Monster in the Sea Empty The Monster in the Sea

Sat Jul 31, 2021 2:37 pm
Mission

Travin was given a strange mission, to say the least. He was supposed to lead a group in an investigation on whether or not there was a sea monster in the area. Just like everyone else growing up in Kiri Travin had heard the stories of the monsters in the area. It would rise up and eat people that swam too far out or just swallow whole fishing boats. Travin never believed it to be true but apparently, some fishermen have brought back evidence that pointed otherwise. Looking over the file Travin was given for the mission he showed pictures of the creature underwater and well as of a tooth that one of the fishermen had brought back.

Travin looking up at the clock noticed that it was almost time to meet up with his team, so after double-checking his gear Travin walked out the door, and after making a few hand signs was standing by the gate to the village. It would appear that he was the first to make it, and he once again loved that he could just teleport everywhere and no longer had to worry about traffic and such. Travin would sit down by the wall on one of the benches in the shade as he waited for his two teammates to arrive. He had worked with Saya before on a few missions and while she was a bit crazy in Travins opinion she knew how to handle herself and was probably the most powerful genin in the village with the most potential as well. Then there was Kikuko she had become a genin and started training while Travin was in Hoshi, so he didn’t know too much about them. However, from their spar at the event, Travin had a good idea that they could handle themselves in a fight as well. All this made Travin feel good about the mission since he felt they would have a well-rounded team.

Once everyone arrived Travin would pass them the file with the pictures and the little information that had been gathered so far. “It would appear that we are to investigate and see if we can prove this story to be true or not” he would tell them. “What do you two think should be our first move,” he asked. Travin had worked with Saya and he knew that while intelligent and could fight he didn’t know how well she did in puzzle solving. The same could be said for Kikuko as well, so this was mostly to see how they would go about running this mission. He hoped that their first answer would be to return to the scene to look for clues or to find more witnesses and try to get together a hunter ground. He hoped that it would at least be something along those lines, as he feared that Saya would want to put on a show for the monster in the hopes that she could win it over through the power of song.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Strap your boots up. Double check the straps of each shoe, and then the pouches at your waist. Is each one filled with the ninja tools you’lll need? It’s possible you’ll never need to draw a single one? It’s possible that today will be the day they’ll save your life. In the life of a shinobi, anything is possible. Adventure and discovery are just around the corner in equal measures as tedium and disaster could be. Caution mixed with courage was the way to ensure a happy yet healthy life.

But of course, the unexpected would and could always occur. Such as being assigned to an S-Rank mission on a day where otherwise she had expected to be babysitting children. What? How? Why? And more importantly, why her?

Well, truth be told, she knew that answer. More than likely part of the reason that she had been tapped for such a mission was her own heritage. Not born to a prestigious clan like many of the other ninja in this village, but that of a humble fisherman. But her father had raised her on the tales of the sea, of its many wonders and treasures just as much as its trials and horrors. The ocean was capable of providing, but mercy was a characteristic that she had always lacked. In her embrace, it was survival of the fittest, the strongest, the meanest. And sometimes that meant that humans were no longer at the top of the food chain as they so thought. In truth, their actions today would be more of investigation than any kind of definitive action, but simply the potential of things to follow was enough to set her upon edge.

Following the directions to the appointed meet up location, kikuko would wave politely to Travin as she approached. Hopefully here, away from the watchful eyes of the rest of the village’s shinobi population, she would be able to save a portion of the face that she had lost upon their last spar. The sting of her actions still lingered, but time had served as a balm to that particular reminder. “Travin. It’s good to see you.” Taking a seat a polite distance away from him, she would scan the crowds for their final teammate. “Do you think she’ll be arriving soon? It wouldn’t be good if we waited too long for something like this.”

She would wait and listen to his response, and when all three had been gathered she would eye the pictures with a careful gaze. She knew the silhouettes of the water fairly well with how often she was upon the boats, and the silhouette was unusual. The same could be said of the tooth- but the fact that a tooth had been brought back at all was unusual. That meant that the tooth had been lodged into prey snatched upon by the nets, or otherwise somehow scavenged from the seafloor. She was putting her money on the former than the latter. “There’s a few people I’d like to speak with regarding this.”

Stretching out her arms and legs, she would pop up from her seat with a bit more pep in her step. “Normally I’d say we should head straight to the scene, but I have a family friend who knows a lot about this sort of thing. If these belong to a fish this village has seen before, even once, he’ll know- and the same goes for if it really is some kind of monster. That, and he lives on the way to the docks. It shouldn’t be too out of the way. Unless you two would rather go about this another way?”

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:53 pm
It was... actually not that nice of a day out today. It was extremely foggy, making the air feel awkwardly wet. One would think that everyone's favorite heroine would have gotten used to this by now, but the moment she got outside her hair reacted violently to the moisture, and she started to pout. Still, the mission seemed pretty cool. After meeting up with her first teacher, she and her best friend were off to find out something about... something? A monster or a fish or... She'd get the details from Travin later probably. The point is, with this team, there was nothing that could stop them. In preparation for a mission that was garanteed to require boat travel, she'd prepared her best outfit: a white ruffled long sleeve shirt that flowed freely from her form with black wrap pants. In lieu of a belt she wore a wide red scarf that matched the bandanna she quickly tied across her hair to keep it out of her face. Finally, She'd pulled on a pair of long black boots, Like fifteen black leather belts that strapped at various angles across her body, and a wide brimmed pirate hat with a bright blue gem in the center and a raven's feather sticking from the top. Yes. It was a good day to be Saya.

Behind her trailed her team as always, with the puppet AI(PuppAIt for ease) wearing an inverse version of her outfit, Freyja garbed in the leather and chain she always wore, but wearing an all black pirate hat to join in, and Coach..... Wearing gym shorts and a tank top. He's a work in progress.

After approaching, taking a moment to give her best friend a hug, and giving a nod of respect to Travin, she realized that it was expected for them to have fully read the mission scroll before they got here. I mean, of course she SHOULD have read it, and technically she did, but she couldn't remember all that information when there was so much going on! Travin and Kiku discussed what the best plan would be to begin their journey, and Saya pulled the scroll from the bag at her side, skimming it once more for understanding.

"Well. I would say the first step would be to get on my freaking cool pirate ship so we can head out to wherever this stuff is happening. My galleon should be way bigger than what was destroyed up to this point, so I don't think we'll be in any trouble--or.... Or we can talk to someone who totally knows everything about creatures in the area and could tell us what's going on. That seems like a good plan too. After we talk to your friends is it galleon time Kiku? I haven't taken her out in SOOOO long! " It was almost fitting that she'd set her statement perfectly to interject with kiku completely disagreeing with her plan, but inevitably she'd totally played it off in a way that seemed super natural and normal. Saya was nothing if not graceful.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

It’s good to see you again as well Kikuko” Travin would reply as he returned the wave. “It’s Saya for all I know she could be behind me somewhere getting ready to drop a stage on my head and do a number about falling pianos” Travin would say with a smile letting Kikuko know he was only joking. However, in reality, once he had said it, he made an unconscious decision to look up and make sure she wasn’t about to drop on his head.

It didn’t take long after Kikuko arrived that Saya came wondering up without a care in the world. Her entourage following suit behind her. Travin made a note that she was wearing some strange pirate outfit today. It always bugged him for some reason that while she was gifted in the shinobi arts she was also so strange. The part that bugged him is that he could never make out what was running through her head. Something that his clan was quite good at even without their genjutsu.

Hay Saya” Travin would say as she made her way over to them. Travin would stand up and get ready to go. Double-checking his stuff as he noticed Saya pull out the mission scroll. Of course, she didn’t read it he thought to himself with a half-grin. He would listen to Kikuko’s plan and it made sense to him that they should seek out information on what is out there. He then listens to Saya disagree only to agree on the terms that they used her ship. Shaking his head “Saya we have to use your ship to my knowledge you are the only member of this team with a ship.”

OK, so this is the plan. Kikuko you lead the way to the fisher you know that will give us the information. Then we make way to Saya’s ship and we find out what is really out there, as you both should know” he would look at Saya as he spoke the last words. “This is a non-combat mission our only goal is to find out if it’s real or fake. However, that does not mean there is no danger. If whatever it is that left that tooth is really out there and attacks us we will have to defend ourselves.” Travin would tell the two before waiting for Kikuko to lead the way to the fisher.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:03 pm
Despite herself, Kikuko would be unable to control her laughter at Travin’s implication of Saya having set herself up for a gag about falling projectiles- it was utterly her style, after all. “Hah! You’d better not say that too loudly. She might start getting ideas at that point, you know.”

Stretching herself out, she would find herself in a relaxed state of mind as Saya finally arrived to make a trio- well, as much of a trio could be when she had an entourage of several puppets along with her. Was this another of her fashion statements? Having worked and been friends with Saya for so long, her outfits no longer fazed the kunoichi to any degree as might otherwise could be expected. So what she looked like a pirate? Ultimately, it wasn’t as though this was a mission requiring a level of stealth. If it meant that the mission was done, she wouldn’t care if she was wearing pink hot pants and a giant bunny head. “Hello Saya! It’s good to see you!”

Listening to her friend’s contributions, her eyebrows would rise to a certain degree. She had been told in the past of her acquisition of such a ship, but she had never been upon its deck until now. Would this be the opportunity they needed to set sail? The idea filled her with a sense of elation.

“I think...it’s possible to do both!” She would agree. “Once we get the information we need, we can get upon the waters to make sure that what we learn is true. That way we can confirm on all directions. Even if we end up not having to do any combat, I’d feel much safer on that sort of a craft then a rented schooner. Surface Walking only goes so far, you know?”

Their thoughts having been aired, Kikuko would lead the two along the docks. The scent of salt and fish commingling with seaweed already set to dry after being wrenched from the sea, fishermen and dock workers commingling side by side as they go about their business even with the threat of such an unknown beast in the area. Certainly, the way is dangerous, but the village must live on. And eventually it is that they come upon an old, balding man instructing a duo of two young men lifting crates of salmon into a cart- whose face would burst into a smile upon seeing Kikuko.

“Ah! Little Kiku! It’s good to see you again. And you have friends!” Hobbling forward with his cane, he would give the tanned kunoichi a grandfatherly hug before separating from her. “This gentleman I don’t believe I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and the lady...am I right in saying that you’re the owner of that galleon parked along the marina?”

“That’s her, alright.” She would offer, if Saya didn’t interject with one of her introductions. “Travin, Saya, this is Temujin- an old family friend. We were hoping that you might be able to help with something important.”

Kikuko would then wait for Travin and Saya to ask their own questions, Temujin’s face becoming slightly more serious at the prospect of being asked for aid by a group of shinobi.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Mon Aug 30, 2021 11:58 pm
"Sounds like a plan! I let the crew go to shore since I haven't needed to take the ship out in a few weeks, but we can run er on a skeleton crew for ye mateys!" Try as she might, she could never actually get the whole pirate accent thing down. She had the phrase understood well enough, but it sounded less like a pirate, and more like she was mimicing the almost irish sounding brogue of her friend Dana. She'd been spending a LOT of time with Dana, so she supposed that made some sense.

Team puppet followed their friend down to the docks, and off to the home of the fisherman she'd talked about. She'd gotten pretty used to the area with all of her random adventures. So used to it that she actually had to stop herself when she tried to take lead, having realized that she definitely didn't know where they were going, and her trying to find the place would lose them valuable time. Finally they were there, with an older man that Kiku said was named Temujin. Had she seen this man before? It was a shame that she met so many people that the faces often blurred together.

"That would be me! I pilot the finest vessel in all of Kiri! I've named and christened her the SS eccentricity!" That. That was not what she'd named and christened the ship. If she were being honest, she'd forgotten to get the name painted on the boat, and it had shifted and changed so often as she forgot or thought of something better that it was hard to say what it was even called origionally. That wasn't important now tho. THey had information to gather.

"So. Where were you on the night of june fourteenth at four fifteen Am and do you have anyone that can actually confirm your alliby?!" Saya leaned in close, looking the man over as she asked absolutely the least helpful question she could think of. With a sight, PupAIt stepped fowards.

"Saya no. What if we let Travin do the talking hm? He's in charge, and I bet he has more information than we do because he didn't forget to read the mission scroll because he was too busy trying to decide which of his thirteen pirate hats went best with his outfit." Damn. Saya had taken some serious burns in her short life, both literal and figurative. There was the time she'd forgotten she had turned on the front hub of her stove until after she leaned down on it to practice handstands, but this was far worse.

"Right. Uh. Travin, whatcha got? Should we do a good cop bad cop kinda thing?! I can totally be the bad cop! " I mean.... COuld she? The girl didn't have a mean bone in her body. She was as good at performing as she was bad at doing anything that was unkind to literally anyone ever. Except for the rare occasions when someone tried to kill her.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Tue Aug 31, 2021 9:47 pm
Travin followed Kikuko and Saya to the fisher’s house or wherever it was they were going to met the man. Travin mostly stayed quiet for the short trip taking in the sites as he didn’t really come down to the docks very much. Once they were there Travin stayed in the back and let the girls run the show for now. He was mostly wanting to see what they came up with before adding his own opinions on the matter. Kikuko leads them up to a balding man with plain clothes, though well taken care of. She introduced the man as Temujin and made introductions around the group as well. Travin shook the man’s hand as she introduced him to the Temujin.

Travin could tell the man was getting a little nervous when he found out they was needing information on something. Something that Travin was familiar with dealing with after all the shinobi of the mist did have a brutal reputation, and a lot of people had learned a long time ago to just stay out of the way. When one of Saya’s puppets stepped forwarded and told Saya that Travin should ask the questions as he probably had the most information. Travin simply watched her reaction, and as he expected she didn’t miss a beat offering to do good cop bad cop.

Travin simply gave Saya a smile “No I don’t think any of that will be necessary” he told Saya as he sat down on one of the crates. “Join me Temujin” he added while motioning to the crate across from him. The old man would do as asked and sit down. Travin would simply reach into his cloak and pull out the tooth that had been found and a copy of the file on the tooth as well. “This was found and turned in” he would tell the old man while handing him the tooth. While the Temujin was looking it over Travin would continue opening up the file as well. “According to the witness, it was found at 21.956 and -129.9” Travin would wait and let the man think for a minute.

Temujin would give it some thought before starting to talk and tell the three that that location is off a small remote island about 4 or 5 hours out to sea. The island is mostly deserted after a disastrous tsunami hit it. A lot of people say that the tsunami was caused by some ancient and powerful monster awakening from a long slumber. Most of the fishermen that have ships big enough to go out that far avoid it, as a lot of strange things happen around the island. Including people going missing, and no one that has set foot on the island has ever come back.

Travin thanked the man and looked at Saya “Well I think we have our destination. You want to set sail, or do you need some time to call back more of your crew to make that far” he would ask her.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Tue Sep 07, 2021 11:06 am
Try as she might, she couldn’t help but quirk a bit of a smile hearing the strange accent that Saya briefly affected? What nation was it supposed to be from? Either way, coming from Saya, it felt decidedly silly. Maybe that was the point? With Saya, it wasn’t always possible to tell.

“The S.S Eccentricity, hmm?” Temujin would quirk a bushy eyebrow at the bubbly and energetic kunoichi, chuckling briefly before the noise turned into a cough. “That’s quite a unique name, if I say so myself. Although you may want to rechristen her officially before people start getting confused as to the identity of your vessel.”

Of course, once she got ankle deep into her ‘questioning’, Temujin’s eyes would boggle slightly (along with Kikuko’s) before he burst into yet another age wizened laugh. “My dear, I’ve come to the ripe age of eighty four years old. The only thing I do past eleven o’ clock is sleep until the sun rises. I do appreciate your keen eye for information, however. And perhaps for outfits.”

With Travin taking control of the conversation, Temujin would slowly take the offered seat upon a crate of fish, his trembling knees supported by his cane as he slowly lowered upon the impromptu resting place. Up this close Travin could see the keenness of his eyes- a brilliant hazel, still unclouded by the ravages of age and time. Giving his testimony along with the information that the trio would need for potentially identifying this sea beast, he would eventually clap a hand upon the young man’s shoulder, surprisingly strong for his age.

“Now listen here, young man.” He would gently sigh, one born of experience and time. “I know that you shinobi are not only careful, but skilled at taking care of problems we normal folk cannot. But don’t think for a second that makes you invincible, alright? What I’m saying here is- be cautious, and good luck. The sea holds bounty and treasure that supports our village, but it also has horrors in equal measure.” Standing up once again, he would offer the best of bows he could do given his advanced age. “Thank you for your time, you three. Now, if you don’t mind, I have more shipments to oversee.”

As the old man would toddle away, Kikuko would mull over the information they had been given. She’d only heard of the island in question briefly throughout her childhood- having appeared in a few anecdotes her father had told her as a child. What the contents of those stories were, however, didn’t inspire a lot of confidence in her. They’d have to make sure that they were prepared before setting sail. “Whatever we’re going after is big- a real predator. Saya, it’s your ship. Your call.”

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

"I don't think anyone will question the identity of my ship, no worries! Worst case it's got my face on it. Not like, on the ship itself but on one of the flags. It's got a flag with my face, the island nation symbol, and the jolly roger--that one came with the ship of course. Can you imagine if I painted my entire face just like. on the ship?! That would be silly. " She would wait for the group to finish gathering their information, and I feel it important to point out at no point did I say she did so patiently. As the others spoke, with Ai certain that her suspicions weren't actually helping what was going on, she would find some way to entertain herself. First she twiddled her thumbs. Then she hummed. Finally she decided to climb up the coach puppet's back, feet fitting easily into the wooden slats, and sit impatiently on his shoulder. Finally the time would come.

"Don't worry. yagami is already gathering the crew. It helps having an assassin turned dress maker who you can send to do stuff while you're off doing other stuff. " It also helped to have secret clones that you could speak to through mental command, but who's counting right? As Kiku suggested they not sail, the small senju would just give her a look. You know the look. As if something being huge, possibly carnivorous, and incredibly deadly would stop her from sailing inevitably right into it's jaws. That is NOT the Sayatria way.

They set sail quickly with each of team puppet taking a task. For once The puppeteer was able to just stand back and allow the ship to run itself. From her position at the wheel she'd glance across the horizon, following Travin's directions to take them swiftly towards her destination.

The Monster in the Sea Empty Re: The Monster in the Sea

Travin would listen to Temujin and allow the old man to speak his peace. “Don’t worry, I have no intentions of dying today, and we are only to find out if it’s real or not. If worse comes to worst I will simply teleport us all back to the village” Travin would say to ease Temujin’s mind. While he would indeed do just that if the creature did attack and prove to be too much for the three of them.

Travin had no idea why he was still surprised when Saya said she had a picture of her own face like a flag for her ship among the others as well. It just went to prove to him that no matter how well you think you know someone they still surprise you with things that you should have expected. Travin was happy to see that Saya was willing to risk her ship for this and had already called back all her men for the coming mission. Travin would follow Saya over to where she had her ship docked with it only being a small distance away since they were already at the docks. Travin coming up to the ship saw that Saya had done a lot of work to the old thing, and didn’t think that it would even be seaworthy. After all, when they found it, it was crewed by a bunch of pirates that didn’t know what ship maintenance and repair was, as the ship had holes all through it and Travin remembered wondering how the thing was even still afloat.

Travin followed Saya up on deck and allowed her to command her crew as is the proper rights of the ship captain. He would be taking the seat at the table near the wheel where Saya would be stationed for the journey. Giving Saya direction to the island using the maps she had for navigation as well as the directions that the old man Temujin had given them they would make the trip in good time.
