The Passing of a Torch [Noboru] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Passing of a Torch [Noboru]

Wed Mar 03, 2021 3:58 pm
It was a peculiar sight, to be sure. Not only to view the room from this unfamiliar angle, but to see each entrant and how they behaved. Ryuzaki, confused as to where to stand while they entered, awkwardly decided to stand between the chairs; Ichigo nodded amicably while sitting at the back, and finally, Gin awkwardly found his way to his seat. Something about the Akimichi worried Kaito, perhaps the audible gulping sound that came from the man. He could comprehend it; after all, to be summoned to the Raikage Chambers out of the blue wouldn’t necessarily make someone feel at ease, yet, he would need to know that his ninja had clear enough conscience to be summoned to the Kage office without worrying. Then again, Kaito’s conscience had its fair share of sunken worries, dark moments of his life which from time to time bubbled questioning to the surface of the lakes of his mind, yet, had he not risen to the rank of Raikage in spite of it all? No, dark moments and questioning of one’s own motives and actions was likely healthy.

Speech given, he gaged the room for reaction; Ryuzaki appeared to be psyched, even though he stood between chairs instead of having taken a seat. He reminded the redhead of himself, even if socially inept, his comments put Kaito at ease that he was ready. Conversely, should he feel a little more worried? After all, he would be competing against the strongest genin the world had to offer. No matter. Worries paid no bills, only action. Maximum effort seemed appropriate; Kaito smiled. The Akimichi sweated profusely, his stomach rumbling. It was true after all that Akimichi were built differently; how long ago had he eaten last? “Yes, there will be food. As a matter of fact, that reminds me, I need to contact our catering services, if we’re taking you, we might have to rethink our food supplies. Are you okay?” He was now sweating a lot; Kaito worriedly turned around, and cracked open the window next to the immovable Kiseragi, trying to get some air to circulate into the room.

Ichigo congratulated him as Kaito set himself back onto the chair, exclaiming how Kaito must surprise him at every other meeting. “That’s how it goes, Ichigo. I needed a good surprise to break the ice, actually. We’ve come across a… peculiar item, in our journey. Or rather, two items.” He snapped his index finger against his thumb, and a scroll appeared in his right hand. “Two pearly Byakugans, the precious dojutsu of the Hyuuga. Now, I could take one for myself, considering my right eye is busted, but I decided not to heal my wound so as to learn a lesson, and I guess putting one of these eyes in this slot would go against me learning a lesson. So, instead, I’m giving them away to our ninja, in an effort to increase our village’s strengths. One of them is mine, one is from my shadow.” A lie, obviously, but one that rolled so easily from the liar’s lips, it might as well have been the thousandth onion a line cook cut. “He doesn’t want it, so I’m giving it to you, Ichigo.” Truly, the eyeball belonged to Zento. However, he did not want it, instead, wanting it to go to someone else who might want it. Perhaps he was morally against the act of transplanting someone else’s body parts onto his body. He did not pry, instead knowing only it was his will that it go to someone who could make use of it. “I suppose you can already do transplants?”

He looked at the two lads; Gin gave him weak vibes, also a crude reminder of a young Kaito, albeit the redhead compensated his weakness with bravado that got him relentlessly bullied by others. A blessing. Gin though, was honest about his uncertainty, and that would be bad, especially in Hoshi. “Gin, you need to get a hold of yourself. Are you indisposed?” He looked at Ryuzaki; the man who reminded the redhead of himself the most. As a Nara, he was also not endowed with natural gifts, instead belonging to a clan who kept their secret techniques under tight leash. Their strength too came from hard work. “Ryuzaki. I will… lease you, this other eye.” He looked at the scroll, curiously. “Now, this bad boy would net me around… one hundred and fifty thousand Ryo, I wager. I’ll sell it to you at fifty thousand, and you don’t need to pay me immediately, you can pay me in installments throughout your career at your leisure. However, the discount comes with strings attached; I will expect that you earn this discount with your performance in the exams. Do you accept it?” If Ryuzaki accepted it, he would turn to Ichigo. “Can you transplant it now? Or do you need to visit the hospital?” If alcohol was needed to disinfect, a cabinet to the right side of the room would have enough sake for all.

The Passing of a Torch [Noboru] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Passing of a Torch [Noboru]

Ryu listened intently as his village leader spoke, he offered Ryu a chance at advancement, one that came with a steep price. The price in ryo was very fair, and one Ryu could manage rather easily, but the cost to his being could be more. Ryu wondered if polluting his DNA was really safe, he knew nothing about the subject, but he pushed the thought from his mind as he would pay any price to protect his village. "I accept willingly, sir." Ryu said at an appropriate point, he ended the sentence with a deep bow, raising his head he thought about how much he could currently pay.

Ryu turned to the drunk as he was addressed. Ryu knew of his accomplishments and awaited his response, if the doctor was too agree that he could do it immediately then Ryu would prepare himself. Ryu was predominately left-handed so he would sacrifice his right eye for this purpose. After the subject of transplantation was discussed Ry made now that he would visit the Thunderpeak Campus and read more about DNA and its long term effects on the body. When the meeting reached a lul Ryu would twitch his arm and a leather wallet would appear, it bulged with cash. Ryu presented it to the Raikage "I can pay 35 thousand now and 15 after the exam"

The Passing of a Torch [Noboru] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Passing of a Torch [Noboru]

Thu Mar 04, 2021 12:10 pm
An interesting sight it was indeed. The more chubbier one out of the bunch seemed to be under quite the impression, being in the presence of the Raikage. Perhaps if it wasn't for the fact Ichigo already had some history with Kaito, the Drunk would have shown the same reaction as the boy going by the name of Gin. Anywho, once his red haired friend was done comforting the Akimichi he turned himself to Ichigo, explaining they were able to get their hands on something interesting while coming across a peculiar item, or so Kaito claimed before proceeding and bringing said valuable to the table.

With his interest being piqued even more, the Drunk got up and slowly walked towards the desk in order to have a look for himself. By then a scroll had appeared, revealing two lilac eyes. Now laying in front of him would be the Byakugan, the famous dojutsu of the Hyuuga clan. Although it would be a first for Ichigo, regardless of not having had the pleasure of meeting one it wasn't that hard figuring out what he was looking at. Kaito continued to explain the situation while the Drunk kept staring at the set of eyes laying on the desk in front of him.

The Drunk paid close attention as the Raikage informed him about one of them belonging to himself while the other technically was meant for a person Kaito called his shadow. From what he was told, Ichigo found out not only did said individual not want the lilac eye, he also received news that it would be going to the Drunk instead. "Another gift? Lately luck must be on my side" he voiced, hoping not to jinx it. Things had been going fast for him and anyone in the village lately, and same could be said about their conversation. Before he could fully let it sink in, the red haired Kage asked and assumed Ichigo knew how to do transplants. "Of course, I haven't exactly been idle while you were away" the Drunken Doctor replied with confidence.

After finishing that specific sentence he slowly removed his headband, revealing the crimson eye belonging to the Sharingan in his right eye only for the Raikage to see. Both Gin and Ryuzaki were probably too busy getting nervous and excited about the upcoming Chuunin Exams for them to notice, paired with Ichigo's position standing to their right, making it close to impossible for them to see the revelation. "Don't worry, there's still room for one more in my left". With a big smirk on his face he continued to listen as Kaito offered one of the two participants a deal, one where they required Ichigo's assistance. "Don't worry, I've got everything I need. I assume everyone here can stomach the sight of a bit of blood?" Seeing how Gin was acting it wouldn't be that out of the ordinary the boy would faint at the first drop of blood. "Whenever you're ready, my friend".

Ryu nodded instantly to his new friend the drunk doctor. However, as the realization of what was about to happen sunk in he took an audible gulp and his arms uncrossed from his back. Ryu stepped forward and took a seat "Maybe I would be better seated after all" he said with an uncomfortable chuckle after the sentiment. Ryu turned to Ichigo and traced the scar on the right side of his face "Leave my moment intact" He said followed by a nod "Please replace my right eye with the treasure". Ryu then gripped the arms of the chair with both hands, enough to turn his knuckles white "Whenever you are ready". Ryu's calm and friendly demeanor had disappeared and was replaced with his natural mono-toned voice.

The Passing of a Torch [Noboru] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Passing of a Torch [Noboru]

If he had any, Ichigo would probably roll up his sleeves as the Drunk Doctor prepared to perform surgery on Ryuzaki and transplant one of the Byakugan in the boy's right eye. He then carefully grabbed the dojutsu meant for the boy, as well as the scroll with the remaining on which would later be put into his own socket, if allowed. "Trust me, I'm a doctor", a bit of comforting never hurt. By then the young shinobi had taken a seat once again, aware it might be a bit more comfortable that way. "Try to lean your head slightly backwards please". Assuming Ryuzaki did as he was asked and adjusted his posture to gain the most ideal position for the surgery, Ichigo would finally begin.

First, the doctor grabbed the eye which was laying on the scroll he placed close to him before turning his attention towards the patient. "Now something to help with the pain" Ichigo voiced as he quickly formed the necessary hand seals to perform the Chakra Anesthetic technique, channeling his chakra to his fingertips as five blue flames appeared. He then placed his fingers on the boy's chest, allowing the technique to do its job. Slow but steady the effects would start to take place as chakra was injected into the nervous system. "Alright, try not to pay too much attention to the sound", he gave the technique a couple of minutes to fully take effect before finally removing Ryuzaki's current right eye which followed with a loud pop.

The Drunk would proceed by forming the hand seals for the Mystical Palm technique, his hands glowing a gentle shade of green. He then took the right eye before gently inserting it into the now empty socket. The healing energy of his jutsu would mend the damaged tissue, forming connections to the new eyeball without any difficulties. Ichigo wouldn't end the technique and continued to heal until he believed the process to be complete and making sure everything worked as it should. The doctor looked for a mirror, because let's be real, which Kage Chambers doesn't have one, and once he found what he was looking for he allowed his patient a moment to see the result with his own eyes.

Ryu snapped his vision round to the doctor as he spoke, "I do trust you" Ryu said in a flat tone with no ulterior motive behind it. Ryu then closed his left eye and began to gentle hum, allowing his mind to wander to a different place, he then moved his head back like he did at the dentist. After the procedure began Ryu could not feel anything in the way of pain, due to the anesthetic, but he began to sweat profusely and his hands began to shake. Although he could not feel what was happening his body knew that something invasive was happening to it and the defensive measures kicked in. Suddenly there was a popping, Ryu gritted his teeth at the sound and was snapped back into reality. Ryu moved to the mirror and blinked his eyes a few times, nothing felt different inwardly, but the eye was also dormant. Ryu blinked a few more times as he moved gunk from his eye and turned to Ichigo and nodded "Good job" he said as the exhaustion his body felt at the procedure caught up with him and blackness crept into the edge of his sight and his consciousness left him momentarily and he fell backward.

Gins mind was overloading with thoughts and feelings, more so now that the Raikage had turned his attention to him. Responding with a slight nod into his well-being, the young Akimichi palmed his stomach slowly rising out of his seat as the rest of the group began conversations pertaining to another matter. “May I be excused?” he muttered to the Kage, upon receiving permission he would utter his final statement on the matter of the Chuunin Exams, “I’ll be ready.” Before heading out of the room, quickly out of the building and to a nearby restaurant.

The Passing of a Torch [Noboru] - Page 2 Empty Re: The Passing of a Torch [Noboru]

A single breath, and Kaito vanished from his chair and over the desk, catching Ryuzaki the moment his knees failed him. “Easy there, champ.” He lowered his limp body onto the couch where he was allowed to nap the rest of the day away. With Gin gone, excused by the Raikage with a curt nod of worry and permission, and the napping Ryuzaki now napping, only Ichigo, Kiseragi and Kaito stayed in the room. “Now then”, he started, adjusting the armor against his torso, “with this trip, I will need to be gone to escort the genin and represent the Kumogakure in this tournament. The village is in a dire state, but I’m afraid we can’t turn our back on the world and scorn it. We need to have at the very least neutral relations with our neighbours, and if possible, alliances.” He spoke to Ichigo, mostly, as he understood Kiseragi wouldn’t be turning or pretend to pay attention. As ANBU, pretending to be a shadow was part of the job description, he supposed, and he would be listening intently anyway. “While I am away, I am charging Kiseragi Onomori with the title of Deputy Kage. The lord has since left for his household, but he will be informed by our ANBU friend when we’re done here. This will be a temporary position, as I am sure lord Kiseragi has more to do than keep the charge he left onto me, but I can’t leave no one at the helm while I’m gone, lest we risk another dip in the village’s stability.”

“However, I have something I must ask of you, Ichigo. A small sacrifice for the village, maybe a big sacrifice for yourself.” As he spoke, he moved to the cabinet from whence Kutari drew two rock glasses and a bottle of fine whiskey. “You see, we need an overhaul to the healthcare system of the Kumogakure. It pains me to say it, but there has been no word on improvement on Lord Maximillian’s health. Without any one else I can look to, I can only ask you, as a friend, and command you, as a Kage, to take up the mantle and improve our systems.” As he spoke, he uncorked the whiskey bottle, and poured the golden elixir onto each rock glass, filling it a quarter of the way, then putting the bottle down and offering Ichigo a glass. “I would like to promote you to a position of power, where you can have the most impact, but I have become wary of rising in the ranks too fast. With that in mind, I am putting you in charge of the reconstruction and improvement of Kumogakure’s hospital, as well as making you a member of the board, in an effort to reconcile the medical arts with the ninja arts. To give you authority, I am also promoting you to the rank of Chunnin. As with all my gifts, I am giving you something with expectations attached; I will expect to see progress in your ninja career, I want you to earn this role. I will remain your friend, but I will also keep a close eye on your career. Would you accept these charges?”
