Mission

Travin stepped out his door into the village hidden in the mist, and today it was living up to its name. The mist was thick rolling over the waters covering the village and was a little too cold. Forcing Travin to open the door back up and reach in and grab his zip-up hoodie. Sliding his zip-up hoodie on over his normal gear he felt a lot better about the day since at least he wouldn’t freeze today. He was hoping for an easy day of walking the walls and patrolling the village for today since he just had guard duty, but he knew as well as every other shinobi in the village that it wasn’t always that easy. Stepping off the porch Travin started to head into the village proper to get a bite to eat before reporting in.

Walking into the dinner Travin noticed that it was a lot warmer in here than outside and immediately unzipped his hoodie. He took a seat at the bar after the waitress told him to set wherever he wanted. Ordering a coke while he looked over the menu for a few seconds before deciding that he was wanting the eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. He made some small talk with a few of the others at the dinner as most people always wanted to find out what was happening in the village. Travin took the time while waiting on his food to feel what he could for the people telling them that he wasn’t allowed to tell them everything. Once his meal was sit down in front of him he started to eat starting with the eggs and bacon then finishing with the hashbrowns after adding some ketchup to them. Wishing everyone a good day as he paid and tipped the waitress before walking out.

Travin made his way to the village gate for his check-in time to swap out with one of the other guards. “How’s it going Jerry,” Travin said waving at the man sitting at the desk. Travin thought that he probably had the easiest job insight since he got a nice little weather-controlled room to stay in and just told everyone elsewhere to go and who to swap out with. However, Travin also knew that Jerry probably got yelled at a lot by his boss for their mess-ups. Since everyone thought that they could be everywhere all the time, so every single thing that happened in the village Jerry was getting yelled at by someone for it. All because we weren’t there to stop it when it was happening.

Jerry told Travin that he and two others would be replacing Bom, Tom, and Dom on the east wall. Travin gave Jerry a nod and walked over to the side of the small building he was in and stood beside it waiting on his two teammates and the others they were going to be replacing for guard duty today.

A Day of Work Empty Re: A Day of Work

Tue Dec 15, 2020 3:50 pm
Ban awoke to a silent house- as per usual. Both her parents died in the line of duty so she didn't have to look after them. Ban never wanted kids so there was no chance of that causing any noise. She didn't own any pets. And Lastly, she didn't have a partner to share her home with. Not that she'd been looking because she had been busy with work all the time. Ban dreamed some nights about what it would be like to have someone next to her in bed when she woke up to greet her. Ban shook off this thought though and continued to make herself breakfast in her empty home.

Today's mission was just an ordinary guard duty. It was something most shinobi of the mist were accustomed to doing once or more a week. Her teammates were to meet at the gate in about 30 mins, leaving her some time to get a stroll down before the start of any mission. It was colder outside than she thought, so Ban wore a coat around her usual ware-combat pants and a blacktop. This was all paired with her katana which she wore on her back.

After getting a walk around Kiri, Ban would reach the gate area where she would approach the post. Already waiting for them was one of the members of the guard squad and one of her teammates she would be spending the rest of the day with. Ban strolled up to them casually. "Morning." She would say in a calm and deep voice.

A Day of Work Empty Re: A Day of Work

The day was unusually cold, the sun was up but the mist covering the land was preventing its rays from warming up the island, Shinji dressed in his usual attire. Shinji wore a buttoned-up, long-sleeved checkered shirt, under a long, high collared, buttonless, and white trenchcoat that reaches to just above his knees, the symbol of the Senju clan is sprawled vertically up the length of the coat. He wears long trousers that cover to just above his ankles, his feet have wrapping wound around them and are covered by sandals, the shinobi headband wound around his head. On his back hip sat a weapon pouch with his supplies inside, and on his right leg sat a weapon holster that had his kunai and shuriken inside. He sat on the front porch of his family home and secured the fastening of his sandals, one of his sisters came out and gave him a wrapped breakfast burrito to eat on the way to his mission.

Shinji for the first time was taking on a C-ranked mission, he was to meet two other shinobi at the wall for guard duty. Shinji made his way towards the assigned gate, he noticed a gathering of people near the gate, they looked like the type he was would be working with, so he approached, a wide smile on his face, a juxtaposition to his cold, dead eyes. "Yo," he said loudly his hand waving frantically back and forth "I'm here for guard duty" He looked around the group, assuming some of them were the previous guard shift "I'm Shinji, it's nice to meet you".

A Day of Work Empty Re: A Day of Work

Tue Dec 15, 2020 11:03 pm
Kita awoke to the sound of his alarm blaring beside his pillow. Kita groaned, and reached over to slap the thing. He arose from his bed and went into the kitchen, grumbling to himself as he did. "I don't know why I even set that alarm. I don't even have any missions today, so there wasn't a need for me to wake up as early as I di-" Kita was interrupted by the familiar sound of a letter sliding underneath the door to his apartment. Kita walked calmly over to the letter, scooping it up off the ground and opening it immediately. Kita read through the letter, speaking aloud softly to himself as he did. "Forgive us for the inconvenience... due to a clerical error we forgot to assign an additional shinobi to guard the village gates for today... you will be assisting three other shinobi..." Kita sighed, and set the letter down on the counter. At least he didn't get up for nothing. Kita quickly returned to his room, throwing on his Kirigakure underclothes, as well as a gray winter jacket overtop, held together with buttons and straps, and coming down to mid thigh in the front of his body, while drooping a bit lower in the back. Kita went into the kitchen, and grabbed a donut before he left. Hopefully, this mission wouldn't be too boring.

Kita made his way out towards the outer walls of the village, having finished his donut by the time that he had gotten there. When he had left his house, the sky was still dark. However, as he made his way through the fog laden streets of Kirigakure, light began to fill the heavens, creating a gray Kirigakure sky. As Kita walked through the gloomy Kirigakure streets, he felt a peculiar sensation, where the skin that was exposed to the elements was frigid and stiff, whereas his flesh inside his jacket was sweaty and overheating. It wasn't pleasant. Kita followed the directions on the mission letter to the village gates, noting that there was a small administrative building that other ninja seemed to be piling into. "I guess that's the place." Kita threw on his biggest friendly smile, and began to walk towards it.

As Kita neared the building in question, he noticed that a group of ninja were meeting up at the side of it, exchanging greetings with one another and discussing the mission. While most of them were unfamiliar, there was one face amongst the crowd that Kita recognized. Grinning widely, Kita raised his hand in hello. "Hey Travin! Remember me?" Kita walked forward towards the group, lowering his hand as he did. He turned to the other members of the group, and gave a friendly smile to them as he did. "It's nice to meet you all! My name is Kita Hajime. I'm going to be working with you today!" Kita pulled out his mission slip, and held it aloft for all to see. "I actually got assigned at the last minute. Turns out that they forgot to hire an extra ninja in advance, so I got called in pretty last minute." He shrugged. "So! The slip they gave me didn't go into a whole lot of detail. Are we just doing a basic perimeter sweep?"

A Day of Work Empty Re: A Day of Work

Travin was leaning against the wall when the first person from his group showed up. Shortly followed by the rest, but there was an extra person that showed up saying that they had been given the mission on short notice. Travin had done a mission and met the guy a few times and welcomed Kita on the team saying that four made a well-rounded team, and with introductions finished Travin realized that Kita was the only one he knew anything about. With the guys, they were supposed to be replacing showing up to be relieved of duty for the day. Travin took the lead walking over to the gate where they were going to be checking over anyone and everyone coming into the village. For Travin it was like the worse guard duty job he could ask for. Much rather preferring to walk the walls and village over standing at the gate.

So I doubt anything will happen at the gate, but I think we should at least know what everyone is good at just in case.” Travin was mostly wanting to know a bit more about both Ban and Shinji having never really met them before. He was pretty sure he had seen them around the village from time to time but never really got the chance to talk. “I’ll go first” he added a short pause as they exchanged clipboards and what not with the guys getting off work. “I’m a genjutsu specialist who prefers to work at medium to close range” he would tell the group as he took his spot by the gate. It was a little slow at the moment but he knew that it would probably pick up as the day got closer to noon and people started coming in for the market and other stuff in the village.

The guard shinobi didn't have to wait long for their replacements to show up. Soon after Ban showed up, Shinji and Kita both appeared, Kita being an extra for the guard duty due to some miscommunication down at the mission planning center. Lousy work, Ban thought crudely to herself.  Both Shinji and Kita were energic shinobi, bringing excitement and volume to the group. Great, Ban thought to herself again, more annoyed than before.

Thankfully, Travin lead the group in introducing themselves and their abilities. "I'm Ban Hozuki. My specialties are close combat kenjutsu and shurkienjutsu." She said blandly when it was her turn to introduce herself.  It was important to know your comrades' abilities before a mission so she admired Travin's initiatives.

After going through all the team's abilities and names if not already given, Ban started off by saying. "I would suggest posting me at the front of the gate for a smaller perimeter while you guys split up to sweep the rest of the gate area based on your abilities. My versatility would make me more useful here than out there." She hoped the group would listen to her suggestion with respect. She was a team player after all.

The other team members gathered and introduced themselves, Shinji gave each of them eye contact as they spoke and nodded along with what they were saying. When the suggestion that they introduce what they specialised in Shinji did not have an immediate answer, as he still had not really developed in this way, but he was working hard at completing missions, he formed an idea of what his speciality would be. "I am a medical ninja, who would be best used as a support role, I would be best left at the gate also and then to respond to anything that happened wherever we needed," Shinji said energetically, nodding along with his own evaluation of his abilities, although right now they were very basic. Shinji would stay at the gatehouse and respond to any area where someone was wounded or began a battle to support them with his earth jutsu, that being said if nothing happened on the day he would just sit at the gate, something that did not suit his personality very well, but after all, this was a job, not free time. Shinji started to get slightly bored even thinking about staying at the gate all day long and doing nothing, it was like academy class, but there would not even be any learning, at least he was outside, that thought slightly comforted him.

A Day of Work Empty Re: A Day of Work

Kita nodded along at Travin's suggestion to explain their capabilities. If a rogue shinobi showed up at the gates, it could never hurt to be prepared. The others went first, with Kita smiling warmly as he contemplated how they could assist one another should a fight come up. To be honest, Kita didn't actually expect to encounter any resistance today. The village wouldn't send a team of Genin to secure the border of their village if there was a genuine threat to be wary of. Still, it would only be polite to share in turn.

Travin went first, as he was the one who came up with the idea. Kita couldn't recall where exactly he heard it, but he did hear sometime in the past that Travin was a Genjutsu specialist already. "Where'd I hear that?" Kita thought. Sadly, he didn't have time to ponder it, as the next of their group was already going. Ban Hozuki was the name of the woman who went next, and it appeared that she was also a weaponry specialist. "A fellow weaponry practitioner! Maybe I'll talk shop with her sometime. We probably have a few techniques that we could learn from one another! She seems a bit stand offish though, so I'll give her some space for now." The last one before Kita introduced himself as Shinji, and he had some strange symbol up the side of his coat, most likely a clan symbol of some kind, although Kita didn't know which clan in particular that was. He explained that he should be put in a supporting role due to his abilities as a medical ninja. "A medical practitioner eh? Hopefully we won't need him, but he'll be incredibly useful if someone ends up getting hurt. Maybe I should ask him if he would be willing to teach Bobo once he's field ready." With that, all the other ninja finished. With Kita's introduction being the last in order, he gave a soft smile and gave a brief preview of his abilities. "Well, I'm a ninjutsu practitioner myself, but I'm also incredibly knowledgable about weaponry and weaponry techniques too! I think that my best usage would be to place me at a central location, and then use my Shadow Clone Jutsu to scan the walls over long distances. This would let them relay information quickly to us, so that we could respond to any threats quickly and effectively." Kita didn't say it aloud, but he hoped that it went without saying that if the group decided on another use for him, he wouldn't be opposed.

Travin listened to what everyone was good at and he knew a little about Kita from a previous mission. He quickly came up with a plan as it seemed as obvious to him as the sunrise is sure. “How about this Ban you take guard at the gate it’s the smallest area with the most traffic. Making it great to stop trouble before it starts, as well as if needed to close distance or take cover.” Travins voice would have a slightly commanding tone to it as if being in charge came naturally to him. “Shinji you stand in the guardhouse and accept paperwork and give the signal if something is not checking out. That way your close enough to help out if anyone gets hurt or shows up hurt, but your also able to stay out of the way in case a real fight breaks out.” Travin would say as he turned from Ban to Shinji. “Finally Kita you Check the wagons coming and going making sure no one is under any of them hiding or inside using your clones if possible to speed up the process and will use my Seigan to check for high amounts of chakra to give us an advantage in case someone is trying something while I bounce around helping the three of you if you get backed up.”

With his plan out, Travin would wait to see if anyone had any better ideas or went straight to it.

Travin, who assumed the leadership position, listened to the group's abilities assessed them quickly. Shinji was a medical ninja and would get placed at the gate to accept papers and be a lookout for the front for any kind of suspicious activity. Kita was also a weaponry specialist with shadow clones and would be in charge of checking wagon and such for anything dangerous. Ban would be a guard for the front gates, allowing her to be accessible. Travin would place himself on the lookout for any strong chakra with his "Seigan", a dojutsu Ban and neither heard of or seen. She appreciated Travin's decisive skills on this mission, she could respect a smart leader.

Ban posted herself outside the gates to see visitors as they came in. Traffic began to pick up as the sun rose as more and more people came by to deliver their products to Kiri's markets and travelers showed up to look around the famous village hidden in the Mist. Ban watched the people for any potential threats like weapons or hidden thugs but saw nothing. The people all seemed to be normal and non-hostile...for now.
