Hanten Shiranui was still smiling, despite the horrifying experience he had just went through. It would probably have broken the spirit of any normal academy student, but you can't break what's already been shattered. And so Hanten's soul had already been broken. He had probably suffered enough during his lifetime (this included) to break the mind of even a genin, perhaps. A weak genin, maybe, but it was really whatever. What Hanten's mind was preoccupied with was the task at hand. Earlier that day, he had been quite crushed. Physcially that is, it was nearly impossible to crush him emotionally, for reasons already stated.
Well, what had happened? It had really occurred all to quickly, and Hanten had barely any time to react. It had all began when he had followed some nice girl to the training grounds. She was pretty cute, and he had wanted to talk and train with her. It seemed that she was about to let him too, until that boy showed up. He was a calm, reserved guy on the surface, but seemed to seethe with rage, energy and activity underneath, and was annoyed and provoked very easily. That was a completely different from Hanten's attitude toward... well, everything.
He smiled at everything, and it was a false smile. This boy... frowned at everything. Well, then a couple of other boys had showed up, as well as some kind of animal. The first boy to get there had broken his back, quite strategically too. How he had been trained to do that, Hanten had no idea, but he knew that one day, he would meet that kid again.... and lose. Over and over again, he would just keep losing. Well, then again, his losses were all for the best. After all, it made him the better person.
Now, the current situation. Hanten was tired out, and his legs were paralyzed, as a result of his spinal cord being severed. He had to drag himself, literally, to the hospital. It was good that the hospital was close by, but Hanten wasn't a very strong or fast boy, so it took him quite a while to get there. His arms now hurt, and his entire torso felt like it had been utterly drained of energy. He banged his head against the door until some worried nurse let him in, yawning, then stopping in horrified surprised, as the boy who had come in with the night looked up at her.
The boy.... was still smiling. It wasn't an ambitious, "I will beat him", smile, but a cheerful, deranged smile, like one whose mind had broken completely. The nurse stifled a small scream before resuming her duties and taking the boy inside. They restored his fitness and began the process of healing his spinal cord. Ah.... this was good. Hanten was glad that these people would heal him. Soon, he would be out and about again, to lose... and lose. His mission? To find someone who made him regret losing.
