Mission: Food Shopping
Anaphiel's stats at the time of the mission:

He’d finally managed to break the cycle of depression the other day, thanks to some help from a friend. With that major hurdle out of the way, it was time to get back to work. Staying inside for 8 months was not doing anything to help him, and as a result, he’d lost the majority of his skill prior to arriving in Kumo. That would need to be rectified. He was surprised that he was still a Chuunin after all of this, maybe the Raikage was taking pity on him? Who knew. In any event he’d been assigned a fairly full day of basic missions, to get him back into the swing of things. The first task he had today was assisting an old lady with her shopping. The mission documents included a list of what was required, and the money that it should cost to purchase everything. The list consisted of some fairly common household essentials: rice, fish, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, beef, milk, some salt, sugar, flour, and carrots. The list looked like it had been written based on what she realized was missing while she wrote it, rather than in any specific organized order. It was a minor thing to simply re-write the list to group similar items together. With the reorganized list and money in hand, the Hidemori Chuunin would make his way out of the house and towards the village’s marketplace.

The marketplace was bustling as usual, it was midday, and everyone was out getting their shopping done. Anaphiel wasn’t going to waste much time here, he was on a mission after all. He had grouped the shopping list based on the stalls he would need to go to: the produce stall would have the lettuce, tomatoes, and carrots, the butcher would have fish, eggs, and beef, and the general store should have the milk, rice, salt, sugar, and flour. He would work methodically, working his way through the marketplace going to each stall in question based on their proximity to where the groceries needed to be dropped off, starting with the stall that was furthest away. That meant his path would require him to hit up the general store first, followed by the produce stall, and lastly the butcher. He’d even managed to get a better deal on a couple of the items, meaning that there was a little change left over. Once he had collected everything he needed, he made his way over to the old lady’s home to drop everything off.

The old lady didn’t live far away from the market place, so Anaphiel was able to drop everything off fairly quickly, meaning that anything perishable didn’t get much of a chance to spoil. The old lady was extremely grateful that someone was able to help her out with her shopping and Anaphiel was happy to help, now that he was no longer feeling sorry for himself. With that mission completed, it was time to get to work on the day’s next mission.

Mission: Round Up

The next mission that Anaphiel had to do today was one for the Kumogakure pound; the village has always had a large number of strays, and the higher ups want to help reduce that number…by finding them loving families. Anaphiel would much rather see them go to loving families than be euthanised, so he’d do what he could to help prevent that from happening. The first thing he’d need to do is make his way over to the pound. Unfortunately it was not particularly close to the old lay’s home where he’d just finished the grocery delivery, so he would begin the long walk over in that direction.

He’d seen a couple cats and dogs along his way over to the pound, he couldn’t help but smile. Sure they weren’t doing much for the village’s image, but they were cute and weren’t really causing all that much trouble. Oh well, a mission is a mission and he needed to get his edge back. Stray animals weren’t necessarily the hardest quarry, but with him being out of it for so long, it would likely be the best place to start. He’d finally arrived at the pound and was given an comically large net and an assistant that would follow him around and keep the captured animals confined until they could be returned to the pound. With everything in place, Anaphiel left the pound in search of cats and dogs to bring back.

He was out for a couple hours, and in that time, he managed to apprehend at least ten cats and dogs total. Unsurprisingly for a ninja village, they were extremely fast for their kind. That being said, they weren’t fast enough to outrun Anaphiel. The dogs were easier to catch than the cats, mainly because the cats would hiss and attack with their claws, and ninja village cats have notoriously sharp claws. He had picked up a couple of scratches, one he may even need to go get stiches for, but if the pets to be were given to loving homes, it would be well worth it in the end. There was one highlight to this for Anaphiel as well; a pair of the animals, a young wiener dog and a corgi, had taken quite a shine to him, and he quite liked the little buggers as well. So when they had returned to the pound, Anaphiel had promptly adopted them. Once the papers were signed, the Hidemori Chuunin left the pound with Cheddar the Corgi and Charlie the wiener dog. The current plan was to take them home before making his way over to the location of his next mission. This most recent one had helped him greatly as it was a good opportunity to see what kind of shape his body was in as a result of spending 8 months inside. He was not exactly thrilled with his current state, but he was better off than he’d expected. After a short walk home, it was time to introduce his sister to their new housemates.

Mission: Pulling Weeds

Hey sis,” Anaphiel said as he walked in the door. His sister was sitting in the kitchen, staring out of the kitchen window, her back to him. “I brought home a surprise.” She turned to look at him, tears in her eyes, and saw the two four-legged roommates. Her face registered shock for a brief moment and made a sound that was half laugh, half sob as she slid off her chair onto the ground as the two small dogs ran past Anaphiel and over to the normally stoic woman, jumping onto her lap and licking her hands and face. Anaphiel smiled as he closed the door and walked over to her, kneeling beside her and putting his arm around her shoulder. She looked up at him, tears in his eyes. “I miss them,” She said to him. “It’s okay,” he said to her, “I do too.” He sighed, sadness threatening to take over again. Now wasn’t the time though, he had work to do. “It’s my turn to look after you.” Anaphiel said to her. “I have a couple small missions to complete today, but after that we’ll talk.” She smiled sadly up at him and nodded before returning her attention to the dogs he’d just brought home. “Look after her will you?” He said to the two dogs. They both looked at him for a second and tilted their heads before returning their attention to Telantes. Anaphiel chuckled and got back to his feet and left the house.

His current mission was to help a couple civilians with weeding their gardens. Not a particularly difficult task, but it was manual labour, and Anaphiel could use the extra exercise. Luckily for him they all lived next to each other so there was not a lot of travelling between the houses. The mission details stated which home required what areas to be weeded, the owners of each home had their own tasks to do so they were not there when Anaphiel showed up. That was fine, he was not in a particularly talkative mood so he just got straight to work.

The first house had a vegetable garden that was getting pretty seriously choked up with weeds. The Hidemori Chuunin got right to work, pulling weeds that didn’t line up with the neat rows of vegetables that grew there. Luckily for him, this particular garden was the hardest, simply due to the sheer number of weeds that had accumulated. A few hours later, he’d cleared the garden of weeds, and the corpses were laid out in a large pile to one side of the garden, to be used how they saw fit. The next garden, a beautiful flower garden, was in significantly better shape and only took Anaphiel about a half hour to clear out the weeds that had grown around the different types of flowers. This one had taken more finesse, simply because he didn’t want to pull a flower by accident. The smaller pile of weeds was left for the homeowner to dispose of. The last house had…a rock garden? Anaphiel scratched his head as he stared at it. “Oh well, mission says to clear the weeds,” so he spent ten minutes clearing out the small number of weeds that were poking out between various rocks. With another mission completed, it was time to move on to the final mission he had for today.

Mission: The Sneaky Cat

The last mission on his agenda today was to track down a woman’s cat that had escaped her while trying to get it to the vets for a checkup. Anaphiel sympathised… with the cat. Unfortunately for the feline, a mission is a mission, so it was his job to find it and reunite it with its owner so that this appointment with the vet could proceed. As he had no reason to stop elsewhere on his way, Anaphiel would travel straight from the last home he’d finished weeding to the complex where this other lady lived.

The building itself took a little while to get to, roughly 20 minutes at a brisk walking pace. Shame that these missions had him going all over the damn place. Oh well, that’s just how it goes sometimes. The building itself was actually quite large; seven stories tall and was roughly 300 meters by 400 meters. Unfortunately for him, the cat could be anywhere, either inside or outside. The cat’s owner was standing by the main entrance wringing her hands and sobbing. Anaphiel inwardly rolled his eyes, but had to stop himself simply because he would likely be the same way if anything happened to Cheddar and Charlie, his two new furry roommates. She had a picture of her cat; a white furry monstrosity with a bow on its head. The cat itself looked to be about 4 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2 feet tall. This was going to be an easy mission and likely one of the hardest missions at the exact same time. Easy because the cat was so large he should have no trouble tracking it down. Difficult because it would be liable to rip his face off with little trouble. Anaphiel held on to the picture for reference, but doubt he would really need to look at it again, unless there was a couple of these monstrous cats roaming around.

The Hidemori Chuunin started his search outside the building, just in case the cat had gotten outside. It took him a short period of time to search around the building and there was no sign of the cat. Now began the process of searching the building from top to bottom. Luckily he wouldn’t have to search all of the apartments in the building, so that left him with common areas, hallways, stairwells, and the roof. He started his search from the first floor and worked his way up. Naturally the cat was on the roof, in the corner further from the stairwell access. The cat was not happy and not looking forward to a trip to the vet.

The damn thing nearly killed him; a swipe at his face nearly had a claw run across his throat, ‘this should not be an E-Rank mission,’ Anaphiel thought to himself as he dove around the massive feline. He’d luckily managed to trick the cat by getting it to charge him and substituting with the massive cat cage that the lady had for its transport. It flew inside and he slammed the cage closed. With the cat successfully captured, he slid down the side of the building with the cage, and helped the overjoyed pet owner bring the cat to the vet for its checkup.

Once the cat was safely dropped off at the vet, Anaphiel headed back home to get cleaned up, changed, and decided to take the night for himself. He needed to get out and see how some of the other members of the village were doing.
