Mission: The Terror of the Mountains

Anaphiel's Stats at the time of the mission:

It was shaping up to be a beautiful day, at least if the weather was any indication. Anaphiel was staring out the big window in the kitchen of the two-storey home he currently shared with his younger sister. The sun had just started rising and the window faced to the east, giving him a spectacular view as the sun touched the clouds, turning them all shades of red and orange, and yellow. “Definitely something worth painting.” He would say out loud, not that he expected anyone to hear him. That did however elicit a response from his sister, who had just entered the kitchen. She walked over to him and gave him a hug from one side, which he reciprocated by placing an arm around her shoulders and kissing the top of her head. “I may do some painting today” she said to him with a smile. “After my mission of course.” Anaphiel nodded. She was also a Chuunin in the village and was set to leave on a mission that would take her outside of Lightning Country. She would likely be gone for a few days at least. Things had seemed to slow down a bit and Anaphiel had not yet been assigned a mission.

Of course, that would change just as his sister was leaving to go on her mission; a letter was delivered just as she was walking out the door. She accepted it and brought it inside, passed it off to him, and then continued on her way out the door. Anaphiel opened the letter and read the contents; It was an S-Rank mission, there was some kind of beast rampaging in the mountains near the village and it had to be dealt with before any harm could befall the village. He was assigned primarily because of his tracking and sensory skills, which made sense as they would need to make sure that they were taking out the right problem, so to speak.

The mission report also noted that he would be working alongside a Jounin, who would be taking charge of the mission and that they would be meeting near the gates closest to the area the monster was said to be causing havoc. That suited Anaphiel fine for now as most of the missions he was on had been either solo or under someone else’s command. The name wasn’t one that he was familiar with, and that bothered him slightly; he preferred to know who it was that he was working with, as unknowns made situations less certain. With a sigh, Anaphiel would put the letter down, get washed up and dressed before making his way out of the house. Punctuality was important for him, so he made sure to arrive at the gates a few minutes before the proposed mission start time. He hoped it was the same for the Jounin that he would be working with. It would depend on whether or not they were already waiting for him when he arrived.

Kaito's stats:

Light traversed the vaste distance of empty space in great blanketing waves at blinding speeds, and within minutes, it washed the world with its purifying bliss, washing away most of the shadow that covered it and creating new shadows of its own. It wasn't long until some of this light spilled through the cracked blinds of a redhead's room, and with accuracy that would make even the most accomplished marksman jealous, sniped him away from his slumber with a bright beam to his shute eyelids, disturbing his rest and bringing him awareness of the new day. For a moment, the redhead took in the environment; the musty smell of his disorderly room, disorder which spread through the rest of his humble residence. Humble residence was complimenting the breaking down messy apartment he lived in. He had yet to make any good changes in this place, or even move out to a better one. He just didn't feel like it; besides, most of his funds were sunk directly into maintaining his arsenal and improving it. Much like a mercenary of old, he would soon wear his vast fortune on himself, in the shape or armory and weaponry, maybe even some vanity items to showcase his wealth and intimidate his opponents.

But today, he would likely showcase he had forgotten to do his laundry, for he couldn't find anything to wear. Eventually he chanced on some clean clothes he wore, he ate some buttered toast and chased it with a strong mug of coffee, and made his way to his shift at the gates. He had his regular equipment with himself, weapon pouches at the back of his belt, wakizashi hanging above his jagged claw, black tank top with black pants, bandages covering his hands and forearms, feet and calves, black sandals, black headband, and his eyepatch strung around his head, covering his right eye, his red mane of hair caught at the top back of his head.

Once at the gates, he leaned back on a chair and pretended he was busy. From time to time he would trigger his byakugan, so as to keep an eye in the distance and make sure no more old men or girls atop caravans had intentions of harming the Kumogakure. Eventually, a lad in fashionable robes approached, but kept his distance. Kaito paid him no mind. Probably waiting for someone before taking off from the village. So long as they had the necessary documents to leave, he would be no trouble to them. In the pit of his stomach, he kind of hoped he would try something. He was spoiling for a fight.

Katsumi Stats:

Jutsu:

The chilling fog of the early morning hung eerily in the air, though only reaching mid calf. The sun had yet to break the horizon line but Katsumi was wide awake - she had a ritual she followed before going out on a mission regardless of the level, and this was an S rank at that, which required her mind to be as in tune with her body as it could be - so her ritual persisted. She awoke before dawn break and performed a complete 2 hour chakra centering yoga session, some would say it to be a waste of time or hoo-doo nonsense but for Katsumi the synchrony it brought her kept her sharper than she could describe. She tended to lose herself in the flowing movements, her even breathing easing her muscles into the almost dance-like session - all while in the privacy of her family estate’s garden.

The light of the sun was just breaching the hedge line, carving a bright yellow streak through the otherwise lush greenery - when she finally lowered her taunt frame out of the complex ‘Grasshopper’ position and rested her knees firmly on the ground, only then opening her red eyes to greet the days responsibilities with the seriousness of someone twice her age. Exhaling one last time she finally rose and turned to ready herself for the mission ahead - wearing a high necked sleeveless black bodysuit, Jounin Flak jacket she reserved for missions only and instead of shoes she simply had her feet wrapped tightly in black cloth; this kept her footsteps nimble as well as near silent. Finally attaching her weapons pouch on her thigh she took a final look at her reflection before grabbing the paperwork necessary for today's business; Travel paperwork for her and company as well as the mission itself.

Walking to the gates proved to be uninteresting and unhindered - she made it with plenty of time before their deined meeting place, instead of waiting out in the open she took to a rather comfortable looking outcropping of rocks and resting upon it with both legs tucked under her and her hands out and open - then becoming near motionless. She had found in her years of practice that in the early mornings the senses were still weakened from sleep, thus making a still figure no matter how different they looked from their background, nearly fade out of observance. With her eyes closed she listened to the world around her, she felt the chakra natures of the people around her - a few night shift guards a few meters away and one very familiar one that seemed to pulse brighter than its counterparts, further away and approaching was an unfamiliar one that hastened up the path until it paused at the gate entrance and idled. Anaphiel Hidemori.

WC 1105
With only one sent to join me today, it leaves the balance … off, that won’t do. The crimson eyes flashed open and took in the man she was assigned to lead - Tall, athletic but not bulky, and well kept. If Katsumi was black, white and red, he was shades of blue, black and brown - draped cloth and extravagance. Sighing internally she prayed that his fashion choices would not hinder his ability to move or else she would trim the length for him. Rising to her full height of five feet three inches she glided over to introduce herself. Small in stature, she was formidable in presence, holding her chin slightly up to incline her eyes to his. She gave a wry smile, “Morning, I am Katsumi Nakiri, the Jounin assigned to lead this mission. Anaphiel I presume? Your attire matches your name if I do say so myself.”, she gave another wry smile before she turned to approach the guard tower that housed her very own red head.

Leaning forward into the window, her elbows pressed into the ledge as she held the paperwork she had pulled from a pocket in her jacket before speaking, a slight tone of mischief outlining her words, “What good fortune I have today it seems. Hope you brought the appropriate gear Kaito, you’re coming with me today.”, sliding only the travel paperwork through to him, she nodded sharply all pretense of joking aside, she addressed the second guard in the room, “Your shift just got extended effective immediately. Let’s go Kaito, I'm briefing before we head off to give you two time to think of a strategy.” This was the girl who commanded a twenty men team through flawless kitchen service - unyielding, commanding, and intense. Without turning to make sure he was following she made her way back to Anaphiel before she opened the scroll that she had left tucked into the same pocket as the travel paperwork choosing to read aloud the key details to give the two a proper overview of the situation. “A summons has gone awry in the mountains to the east, it has a path that is predicted to run into the village destroying anything in its path, it has been ranked as S and is known to be highly dangerous.”, she closed the scroll and tucked it away before addressing the two with her full gaze,”Kaito you lived in the mountains for some time so reflecting on your time in the terrain will be necessary. Anaphiel, I did some review of your public files to get a general idea of what you can bring to the table - long range attack, Medical support and containment are the most crucial attributes for this mission. Experience from Kaito with his quick decisive close range capabilities, my ability to distract and support from mid to close range in combination with Anaphiel’s long range containment - this shouldn't take more than an afternoon.”, waiting a few moments to listen to any and all comments and questions before she turned from the two men and ran her fingers back through her hair taking a deep breath, “I expect possible game plans upon our arrival, inclusion in tactics is how I run my squads and I expect compliance.”, looking over her shoulder, another faint smile spread across her lips, “Do keep up.”

With that she took off, without another word during the entirety of the trip until they started to come across wreckage of the environment, of which she held their approach - standing high in the trees that were still standing and staring down at the cracked trunks and crumbled rocks that made a clear path North-East. Raising her chin a bit again she simply raised her eyebrows at the two, awaiting their ideas, her body language clear enough indication for what she wanted.

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

All of the entrances to the village had guards, which made sense, since they wanted to make sure that the only people entering and leaving were authorised ones. One of the guards looked over at him once before paying him not further attention. The red-headed guard was slightly shorter than Anaphiel but was definitely more solidly built than the Hidemori was. The man wore all black; tank top, pants, sandals, hitai-ate, and eyepatch. He also seemed to be fairly well armed, which led Anaphiel to assume his talents may perhaps lead in that direction. There was no one else there that looked like they were waiting for anyone, other than the gate guards, so Anaphiel simply stood around, keeping an eye out for anyone coming and going.

He detected her chakra before he saw her, so he turned to face the approaching signature. The person he saw walking towards him was not who he expected, but he wasn’t disappointed. She was short; a full foot shorter than he was. She also had a smaller build, lithe, petite. Pale skin, bright red eyes that you could get lost in, and platinum white hair cut shoulder-length on one side, and shorter on the other side. The black sleeveless bodysuit she wore showed off her figure quite well, a little too well... Anaphiel caught himself staring and made sure that his mouth remained shut. It was well deserved though, she was a very attractive woman, and Anaphiel was normally able to keep himself in check. ‘Must be the early morning.’ He thought to himself as she approached. She also happened to be wearing a Jounin’s flak jacket, and there’s no way she didn’t have that because of favouritism, not here in Kumogakure. She would be someone with significant power and may not be the kind of person that appreciated being stared at, regardless of the reason.

Anaphiel could almost detect the amount of confidence she gave off when she stepped into the chakra-infused air that constantly surrounded him. As she addressed him and introduced herself, the first thought that went through his mind was ‘even her name is lovely.’ He almost gave his head a shake. ‘focus. You’re not here to date her, this is a mission. Figure that out after.’ He would nod and return her smile with one of his own. “Good morning, I am indeed Anaphiel. It’s nice to meet you, Katsumi.” In regards to the comments about his attire, he provided the logical response. “The clothing seemed to suit the environment. The mountains can get colder, and being cold dulls the senses, and slows the reflexes. Being a liability to the mission is not something I plan on having happen.” At that she would then make her way over to the guard town and lean into the window, providing the Hidemori Chuunin with a lovely view of her posterior, and spoke with someone inside. She then made her way back to where Anaphiel was standing. It seemed that the red-headed guard was no longer to be on guard duty, for he made his way over.

Once the three of them were together, Katsumi would give a rundown of the situation; A summoning had gone wrong outside of the village and it was heading this way, likely to cause as much damage as possible. Their job was to contain the issue and deal with whatever was summoned. She then proceeded to list out their relative strengths and a rough idea of her expectations. Anaphiel would nod at the end of the quick briefing. “I understand. I will also use my sensory abilities to keep an eye out for any errant chakra signatures.” He said as the group would make their way out of the village, following Katsumi. As soon as they were outside of the village Anaphiel would activate his Baioregan, causing his grey eyes to become a deep violet colour. One of the first things he noticed is that Katsumi had access to three elemental natures, as her body was tagged with green, brown, and red symbols for the Wind, Earth, and Fire elemental natures. ‘Glad to know I was right about her skill level.’ He thought to himself. It was quite an accomplishment to have more than two basic elemental natures. Kaito had but one symbol tagged to him, the brown symbol for Earth. Not that it really mattered; you didn’t need a lot of elemental natures to be good at close combat.

It didn’t take them long to get to the initial wreckage. What surprised Anaphiel was that it didn’t look like the trail led back towards the village at all, but away from it. “That’s strange…” he would say out loud. “Wasn’t the report that it was heading towards the village?” He looked around for more clues while saying. “Our first priority should be to catch up to it and draw its attention so that it doesn’t cause any further damage.” He would wait for Katsumi and Kaito to provide further feedback before doing anything further.

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

Tue Jul 28, 2020 1:38 pm
Kaito had wished someone would start trouble, however he immediately regretted his wish, for the Universe had provided him with Katsumi Nakiri, his arch-nemesis, his rival, and one of the oldest friends he had in the Kumogakure. He wasn’t sure whether there was one god or a multitude of gods, but if there were, they certainly seemed to have a sense of humor, and were particularly fond of toying with Kaito. When Katsumi ordered him to take off with them and requested the other guard stay on shift longer, he exchanged a look with the other guard, and couldn’t help but spread the widest shit eating grin he could muster at the disappointment in this fellow’s face, his dreams of ending night shift suddenly destroyed by this short and commandeering hell on wheels lass.

Kaito took off without a word, following Katsumi, and giving a nod to the other guy in their squad as a show of respect; he had no real intention of getting to know him other than what was needed for this mission, and even that, responsibility for a plan fell on the platinum haired girl, not him. When she explained the rundown of the situation and what she expected from the two of them given their specialties, Kaito began tinkering with blueprints for plans. S-Ranked summons were typically huge beasts with high intellect, extraordinary in combat and strategic thought. His only hope was that this one was not very well versed in strategy, elsewise they might be in for a rude awakening going after it in its preferred grounds.

He stated only “I’ll reserve my comments until we meet this beast. But if we meet it before we can do anything, we should defer to me on the front, Katsumi hidden behind me for an opening, and the beanstalk can hide in the shadows until he can contain the monster.” He hadn’t caught the name of the lad, and it would only get in the way to learn his name now. Kaito was terrible with names anyway.

Once they made way, Kaito made sure to inch himself further and further to the right of the group, so he kept the right side of his face hidden, just in case he would need to enable his Byakugan he would like it to be kept a secret. Once they met with destroyed terrain, it became apparent that this beast was indeed grotesque in size; the destruction it laid in its path was nothing to scorn at. Katsumi looked at the duo in her peculiar style, a mixture of a jolly bubbly academy girl with a sadistic tyrant. The tall robbed man spoke first, aloud and without a care for volume in case the beast was close-by; this told Kaito that the beast was not likely within the range of his sensing abilities. The comment, however, left much to be desired. He addressed his question. “Report was a prediction on its trajectory, not a full statement. It’s likely that this beast is feeding as well as it can on local wildlife, and moving closer to the village due to the abundance of game. It might attack the village if it gets hungry enough and the scores it finds here aren’t satisfying enough.” The remarked on the comment made by the man. “You are incorrect, sir. Setting our priority to catching up to it is tantamount to hanging ourselves right here on this tree branch. If we have no idea what we’re going to find we’re just waiting to be killed by what clearly is a competent killer.”

Being the furthest to the right, at the edge of the branch they were on, Kaito enabled his Byakugan; immediately the world melded between his regular sight and the black and white negative sight of the Byakguna, and while his regular eye could only seen vague information, the Byakugan afforded Kaito with accurate vision for one hundred meters around himself. He was also able to view Katsumi and Anaphiel, should he think they might get any sight of the veins now bulging on the hidden right side of his face, as well as their chakra networks and their chakra points. Truly, ripping out Ghost’s eye had been the best decision he made that night, after condemning him to his death.

He began taking note of tracks he found out loud. “Broken forestation, crushed rocks -- no, sliced rocks. Creature came from the North-West, likely as stealthily as it could muster, and against the wind, then broke through the treeline and jumped something that was around here. It then broke off bound North-East.” He looked up from the ground, and into the distance where rockface rose above the tree line. “The cave system.” He disabled his Byakugan and looked at the duo to his left. “This creature is probably feline or canine in nature, but has no habitat where it can hide properly, so it makes use of the cave system to feed and rest. It likely has means of seeing in low light, meaning it’ll be at an advantage in the caves. I suggest we smoke it out. Depending on where it is, we’ll have to infiltrate an alternative entrance, find a hub, and set off a large amount of explosives to cause it to flee; this means we’ll likely have to split up momentarily while someone plants the explosives so the others can ambush it at the cave’s entrance where it’s most familiar with; if frightened enough to flee, that’s the exit it will instinctively run through. We can only hope it’s not feeding a family of its young, otherwise we have another thing coming.” He looked at the floor again. “Based on the broken vegetation and the damage to the rocks, I would wager it has remarkably sharp claws, and there should be a mouth full of equally sharp fangs as well. Be wary of direct confrontation. If it’s cat-like, don’t duck backwards, try and duck underneath the fangs, but be wary of ending inside its mouth. Best to be eaten whole and get puked than being shredded to pieces. Ideally, don’t engage closely at all, and leave it to me to contend in close quarters.” He shot a look at Katsumi. “That’s my two ryo, anyway. The ultimate plan is yours.”

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

Katsumi had remained motionless while she waited for both Kaito and Anaphiel to provide her with any form of plan they might have come up with - knowing now that Anaphiel was also able to sense chakra signatures was something she was interested in using as an early warning system if her own chakra sensory didn’t reach as far. He simply pointed out that the tracks led away from the village, which was odd but wasn’t impeding on their approach at this time. Though Kaito easily grasped her full attention as he launched into a full slated analysis of their situation - along with some quips that showed he had no hindrance in correcting his team mates.

Then he settled into a demeanor that was far more serious and… presumptive. He seemed to know things about the area without even really needing to look closely around, either he was far more observant than she had originally gave him credit for or… something. A cave system. Her eyes instantly snapped to the same budding rock face in the distance before returning her gaze to listen to the remainder of his plan, only when he was finished did she close her eyes to think for a moment. Razor sharp claws, undetermined agility and speed, a one way in/out scenario - it seemed as though there were a lot of variables working against them. No matter, she had a fairly balanced set of skills at her disposal between the three of them, nodding slightly she opened her eyes and crouched down to one knee on her branch, her hands coming to rest on her knee.

“Alright, the cave system is a built in stronghold, so smoking it out in any essence is the appropriate angle but explosives are unnecessary - I have a jutsu that will allow me to fire ten fireballs into the cave. If smoke would do the trick then fire itself will do it much faster. Splitting up is still a smart play,”, she turned to Anaphiel directly at this point, “In splitting up we rely on you to be the one to immobilize this beast so we can end it. My plan is simple - Anaphiel breaks off from us as we approach the cave system and finds a spot he can enact any and all means to halt movement of the beast, Kaito and I go in ‘switch’ style to keep it occupied til you find your opening, stopping its movement is crucial to the next phase of the plan.” Taking a deep breath she let it out in a half laugh, looking up at Kaito now, “I have an inkling that the beasts skin might be tougher from the outside, which leaves us no choice than cutting from the inside out. You are exemplary at close combat, all I need is for you to create a reason for the beast to open it’s mouth, at the same moment Anaphiel you pin him down - if you two can do this for me I will take care of the rest.”, she bit her lip for a moment before deciding to ask anyways, “Kaito, I’m going to need to borrow your sharpest sword.”

Without flawless execution of this plan she would die. One slip in the hold of either of the two men and she could be severed in two - but didn’t she always leave the most difficult and life threatening tasks to herself? Be it for glory, worry, or generally saving the worst for herself she was still unsure. She would wait to see if Kaito gave her a weapon, if he had she would adhere it to her belt for easy draw. “Any questions? Now would be your time. ”, she posed this for the last moment before they would set out - in which near silence would be necessary. If there were any she would answer them before raising to her full height and turning to face the rock fronts in the distance. Gritting her teeth for a moment she raised her left hand and flagged it forward before pushing off the tree with enough force to launch herself soundlessly through the air several meters in its direction - relishing in the cold air as it sliced through her hair. Nothing like possible death to make you feel alive again.

They made quick work of the distance and she directed Anaphiel to split from the group with a simple nod and a mouthed - “Be safe.” With both hands she indicated for Kaito to take point as they approached from the other side of the cave mouth - still hidden in the brush she was unable to see any movement in the black entrance - though the blood streaks along the ground leading into the cave was proof enough Kaito was correct. Standing a few meters behind him she performs six hand seals and upon the lasts forming ten balls of fire that surround her form in a semi circle - causing the flickering red to cask orange tinted light on her white blonde hair. With a low whisper to Kaito, she sets their plan in motion -Faster than he she moved to the center of the clearing so as to have the mouth of the cave in her direct sights before launching all ten balls of flame into the mouth and as deep as she could make them reach - leaving a second between each launch. The resulting sounds of exploding rock would have been troubling enough if the responding ear splitting roar hadn’t cut through the air immediately after her onslaught.

She jumped back a few paces so as to give Kaito the room in front of her to take point - the time between her launch of jutsu and now being enough time for him to take his appropriate place. In the spare seconds she had left she activated her Sharingan, both of her eyes forming single distinct black marks in the blood red.  “Here we go.”

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

It would seem that Kaito didn’t agree with his assessment and recommendation. That was of no concern to the Hidemori Chuunin. Anaphiel was not as familiar with the area they were in, so he was welcome to allow someone else with more knowledge of the environment to correct him. That being said, he felt that Kaito was being a little overly dramatic in his description of what may as well happen if they rushed in there.

The close-combat specialist then went into a verbal description of their surroundings, and his findings therein. Most of it seemed pretty straightforward; Anaphiel had a very similar mental picture of the area thanks to his Baioregan. The caves nearby would be a logical place for a large predator to make into a lair, provided that something bigger and meaner wasn’t already there. The fact that it didn’t already have a habitat of its own made sense, as the monster is reportedly a summon. The fact that it may do well in the caves because of the lack of light meant nothing to Anaphiel, whose Baioregan was designed to work in no-light environments. The recommendation to not get close was also not really needed, because the Hidemori Chuunin was not one to engage in close combat primarily, being a ranged specialist and all. He wouldn’t say anything though, simply listen to Kaito’s report and wait for Katsumi to provide orders.

Katsumi’s first comments were directed towards both of them, that she would use her fire release to try and smoke the beast out of hiding. She then turned to Anaphiel and mentioned that splitting up would also make sense, stating that it would be up to him to immobilise the monster. He didn’t have a whole lot of tricks up his sleeve, but he didn’t really have a choice in the matter. He’d stop the beast one way or another. As soon as he received his orders, he would nod to Katsumi and make the seal of confrontation, activating his Mind’s Eye of the Kagura. As they weren’t doing anything else immediately, Anaphiel would double down on that, drastically increasing the range until he picked up a chakra signature that seemed to be coming from the caves. It was most likely from their target. “I can’t say with one hundred percent certainty, but there’s something in the caves.” He would say to the other two while Katsumi took a deep breath (he could watch her do that all day) and let out a laugh just before explaining the next part of her plan.

It was very possible that the beast’s skin would be tough to crack, but the Hidemori Chuunin wasn’t sure that the current situation required an assault that would require their team leader to cut the thing up from the inside. Were he more inclined in that particular direction, he would have volunteered instead of her doing it. Unfortunately, he was not designed for close combat to that degree. With no questions of his own to ask, he would wait for their signal to head out, which wasn’t long after. Katsumi waived her left hand and lept away, Anaphiel followed suit.

As they neared the entrance to the cave, Katsumi motioned for him to take his position and mouthed two words his way; be safe. Anaphiel would wink, nod, and mouth “you too” before taking up position on the near side of the cave entrance. At this range, his Minds Eye of the Kagura could easily pick up the chakra signature inside. It was still not close enough for his Baioregan to pick up, but it wasn’t that far out of range. He had a couple of ideas on what he could do, but the most logical one had a very short range. He hoped it would work, and there was only one way to find out.

Katsumi and Kaito arrived on the other side of the cave not long after he split off. Katsumi then moved to the center of the clearing and launched her fireballs into the cave, explosions causing the beast inside to let out a massive roar of rage. Anaphiel could immediately tell that the beast was closing. He would keep out of sight, because for his plan to work, he would need the monster focused on someone that wasn’t him. When Kaito ended up doing whatever it was he planned on doing to get the beast’s attention, Anaphiel would close to within 5 meters and make two hand seals, activating his Temporary Paralysis technique as soon as the beast’s mouth was open. This would lock the monster completely in place, preventing it from moving in any way.

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

Whether they said so or not, it appeared Kaito’s assessment had been accepted as accurate, for no contentions were made. She would be drawing the attention of the beast from the outside of the cave, which was a much better option than going into the system in case the beast kept up to their speeds; she went on to detail how Anaphiel would be in charge of ensnaring the beast to restrict its movement. She gave a half hearted laugh before proposing that she would be trying to cut the beast from the inside to avoid it’s potentially tough hide; Kaito clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, and watched her hesitation before asking him for his sharpest sword. He raised his left eyebrow and hesitated himself, but resigned to unbuckling his Jagged Claw from the belt upon which it rested, and handed it over to Katsumi saying “this is my most valuable possession, don’t make me dive inside the beast to get it back.” She asked if anyone had any questions and to voice them now, but Kaito just pursed his lips and shook his head lightly, whereas Anaphiel appeared to be expanding his senses across the land, later adding he wasn’t one hundred percent sure, but he felt something in the caves. It wasn’t a solid confirmation, but it played into Kaito’s assertion, and that was enough for him. Katsmui raised her left hand, signaling that they were off, and off she went, shaking the branch on which they stood. Anaphiel, the giant, took off after her, shaking the branch a little more, and thus came Kaito’s turn; he could’ve crouched on the swaying branch, swung his arms forward, and projected himself off with great force, but that would’ve caused the branch to sway more and possibly rustle trees, giving the creature a tip to their approach if its auditory senses allowed it. Instead, Kaito travelled along the branch towards the trunk, and jumped off the sturdier trunk as lightly as he could to follow the duo, bracing himself so he could roll on the landing to avoid a thunderclap on impact.

As they walked, Kaito stayed at the rear of the group until Anaphiel split; he did not witness their interaction, with the exception of the nod he gave to Katsumi. His stomach started turning; what did that signal mean? Were the two of them trying to pull a quick one on Kaito? And he had just given his best sword to Katsumi… what a fucking idiot. Katsumi gestured to Kaito to take the lead, and in order to avoid raising any suspiciousness, he moved on command without a hint of hesitation. He was in a sticky situation, but he was certain he could take the two of them on. After all, he had a few trump cards up his sleeve no one knew about, for he had never openly exposed them.

However, as he took point, Katsumi performed a few handseals, and Kaito struggled to keep his composure just in case she meant to blast him, as his back started to feel the heat emanating from the orbs of fire. A whisper set him straight though, and he just stepped to the side wide enough that she could go ahead while avoiding the fire orbs; he watched them go into the cave, one at a time, and the echoing booms within, followed by a pained shriek of what he could only surmise was a big boy. He put his hands together for a singular seal, and in a puff of smoke, a clone formed in front of Kaito. The clone took a knee in front of the cave’s mouth and leaned his torso forwards, and Kaito stepped on it and leapt into the rockface above the cave’s opening, sticking to the vertical cliffside by virtue of the chakra on his feet. The rockface shook lightly with the stampeding of the beast within, but he looked at the clone on the floor for his tactic to work; the clone looked forwards, aware of the next step. As the beast approached the light, he could see a demon approaching, out of the regional folklore it were, a red mask with oni fangs protruding from its mouth, a blood red cloud pattern on its face, as a terror on legs it was. The clone’s face hardened in concentration as it performed the boar seal, still one knee to the ground, and soon as the creature’s face touched the sunlight, the clone slammed his hand to the ground as Kaito leapt forward; the ground broke and convulsed, tearing and turning, making the creature lose its footing for a second, but not before Kaito raise his leg high in the middle of the leap to bring it down with crushing force in an arc, delivering a blow to the base of the skull of the creature. As the creature staggered, Kaito landed on the creature as he drew a kunai, he mounted its neck and swung himself down to stick it into the creature’s eye; it unleashed a mighty hurt roar, and that’s when Anaphiel’s temporary paralysis took hold of the creature, in pain as it were, it was unable of screaming even though it’s maw was wide open. The clone on the floor, still kneeling, cried out “NOW!” as he leaned forwards, bowing down to the mighty creature and allowing to be a platform for Katsumi to do her part.

Katsumi bounced on the balls of her feet keeping herself ready for the sudden take off the window was to provide - the sword Kaito had handed her was unlike any weapon she had ever laid her hands on. The blade looked as though it were ripped from the skull of the very beast it was set to decapitate, jagged teeth of red melding into the off white bone - a perfect representation of the master it belonged to; dangerous and dripping in red. The length itself in her hands was half her height, which pleased Katsumi since the maneuver she was about to pull benefited from a blade such as this - she would have to remember to compliment the craftsmanship when this was all over.

Her initial assault had done just as she hoped it would, the beast was coming and it was coming for the two lone figures in the center of the clearing. Kaito’s timing was flawless as he gave not a single moment of contemplation to the monster before already throwing the plan into motion - as the floor rumbled under foot she watched as he launched himself into the air and brought a devastating blow to it’s skull before landing onto the beast's back - she was backing up now to gain as much of a starting run as possible. This thing was hideous… like a monster from a story children were told to scare them into behaving, grotesque fangs like a hog mixed with a long snouted mole, all topped with razor sharp teeth that even at this distance dripped with saliva. Fuck.. hadn’t thought of poison did you Katsumi? Too late now … her cue came just a moment before the clone bellowed to her - the muscles of the beast freezing as her eyes caught the action. Placing the blades hilt to between her hands as if in prayer she formed the Ram hand sign around it - holding back the activation til the perfect moment..

NOW. Her footsteps tapped with lightning speed across the ground, hitting the back of Kaito’s clone and launching her body into the air kicking off harder from her right side to give her arc a slight spin, only once she hit the arc of her jump did she activate the Ram hand seal she held - causing her body to flicker directly into the open jaws of the beast, the slight spin she had created turned into a viscous spin as she simply had to extend the blade out horizontally from her body; Momentum and the treacherous teeth of the blade she held doing the rest of the work for her. For those with eyes who couldn’t follow the blur of speed she had become it would seem as though she would flash completely out of view - leaving a few seconds of confusion and silence. Then came the stomach turning squelching sound as the head slid from the body and hit the ground, followed by the body which had gone limp.

Laying in the space between the head and the body was the small form of Katsumi - her white blonde hair drenched in blood, her hand still gripping the jagged sword in a knuckle white grip. She was dazed as she stared up at the sky, releasing the Sharingan back into dormancy as she calmed herself internally - for there was one important thing she had left out in the making of this plan… she was severely claustrophobic, and the tight space of a throat was probably the most nightmarish spot she could have put herself in. What choice did she have though? Being the smallest in the group it would have come down to her anyways, and yes, they could have fought the beast outright but that was leaving so many windows of opportunity for injury or fatal wounds to occur - no. This was the right call. Once she knew her hands were steady she released the hilt from her grip and slid her hand into the pocket of her flak jacket - trying not to wrinkle her nose at the soaked feeling of the cloth - and pulled out a pack of cigarettes which housed a small flip lighter along with 8 or 9 cigs.

Still laying on the ground she closed her eyes as her fingers worked on muscle memory pulling a single cig and placing it in between her lips, cupping her blood covered hands around it to light it - only after taking a deep inhale would she finally open her eyes and begin laughing, “Mission accomplished.” She took a few more drags before sitting up; using her hands she pulled her hair back and rung what she could out of it before tying it in a knot at the back of her head away from her face. Finally she dragged herself off the ground, making sure to grab the sword from where she dropped it and held it out towards Kaito - “Here. You’d better take it now before I keep it for myself.”, she gave a wink, taking a deep inhale again - her nerves easing as the nicotine seeped into her system - and exhaling the smoke away from the group if they were near enough. “Lets go home boys.” With a last furtive look at the beasts body she turned and began making her way back in the direction of the village.

Monster Hunter (IO) Empty Re: Monster Hunter (IO)

The bastard was bigger than Anaphiel had expected; Easily fifteen meters long from tip to tail, 3 meters wide, and 4 meters tall at least. The serrated teeth in its jaws were roughly the size of a tanto at the smallest and could puncture all but perhaps the strongest armour. The claws on its four paws were a each a meter long and would likely do more physical damage than the teeth would. Just looking at it would scare off a good number of hardened shinobi. Anaphiel was not one to lose his cool, but he came close. Luckily for him, their impromptu plan actually worked; his Temporary Paralysis tech took hold and froze the monster in place while the monster’s mouth was wide open. This gave Katsumi her opportunity to finish it off, which Anaphiel could follow thanks to a combination of Mind’s Eye and his Baioregan. Katsumi’s jump off of Kaito’s clone and subsequent body flicker turned her into a bladed whirlwind, flying right into the beast’s mouth.

One moment, the beast was standing there, muscles locked in place, the next moment its head was on the ground, disconnected from its body. Katsumi was laying on the ground in the space between where the beast’s head and body fell to the ground. Anaphiel would immediately rush over to her to make sure she was alright. He would kneel down beside her as she pulled out a cigarette. “Did you get hit anywhere?” He asked her, ready to use any basic medical ninjutsu to help at least keep her alive long enough to get back to the village should further treatment be necessary. It would appear though that she was fine, as she was able to get up by herself. Anaphiel would keep near to her, just in case she was simply acting tough.
