The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Thepartingglass
The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Linebreak

The thick scroll weighed heavily in her hand with the weight of what she had done. A few weeks ago, she had killed the shark man in cold blood, and, well... She didn't quite know what to do with the body. He seemed to have a unique enough bloodline, which she'd be happy to sell to the ragdoll man, but she did want to see about keeping one of the organs for herself- just to study, of course. Worse comes to worse, he'd just knock off some ryo from the price. And it wasn't like she was particularly attached, anyway. The sun was beginning to set over the horizon, and chill winds swept across the sands. She needed to get to Kenshin soon, or else night would fall before she could get back to her apartment. She was wearing a dark red hoodie, black leggings, and simple brown leather sandals that she had managed to haggle off of a local shopkeeper who wanted her to leave as quickly as possible. She approached the hospital with a bit of spring in her step, noticing how everyone she met on the streets gave her a wide berth. Did her reputation precede her? She did have a fairly unique appearance, after all.

Eventually, upon arriving at the building, she opened the front door and made her way down a flight of stairs into the morgue- which was located in a basement, as it was much cooler underground than it was above ground. Hopefully she would find him there, and if not... Well, she supposed she had around twenty more minutes before she really needed to get back. There wasn't much pressure to move quickly other than the simple fact that she hated cold temperatures. She tilted her head forwards, glancing around the room, hoping to spot someone else there. Should she not be alone, she would knock thrice on the metal door to signal her presence... Not that she was hard to detect, of course, but more as a safety precaution. Startled ninja were dangerous, and all that.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Sat Dec 07, 2019 9:48 pm
This is not a good look… gain some self control. Mizu had been pacing around the halls in the hospital for what felt like a few hours. Her now wild hair flying behind her as her steps hit the stone floor with unintended force, the silent halls reverberating them back at her and only increasing her distaste for her most current actions and behavior. She let her guard down way to much around Kenshin, to the point she wasn’t sure if she was getting soft or not. Sighing to herself she flopped her back against the wall in frustration - when in her life had she become so weak to someone? She was Mizuki Ohta… the silent killer of years past reduced to a blithering girl worried about a boy. Wrinkling her nose in distaste she sprang from the wall and began heading down to The Morgue - Her feelings aside she still had a plan of action and she still needed to take her growth here seriously - regardless of how confusing everything had become with him.

She burst through the Morgue doors again as she had on her first encounter with him, her eyes scanned the room the same as they had then too - this time though she was expecting it to be empty, Kenshin was always aware of his surroundings and was most likely not going to be sitting out waiting for her to appear. She spotted the desk that she could clearly imagine Kenshin sitting at while nursing a glass of strong liquor - which just so happened to be still sitting out on the desktop - Huh. Striding over to it she pulled her black cloak she had been wearing closer around her and plopped down in the chair - pulling it closer to the desk she would grab the canter and swing her legs up onto the desk. Oh would Kenshin be unhappy about this - not only was she acting like she owned the place but she was drinking straight from the bottle - which if the last time she tried was anything to go off of was a no no to him. Leaning back she took a small sip from the bottle and closed her eyes - the cold of the morgue seeping through her cloak and into her bones until three small raps on the door made her eyes fly open to reveal Amat walking in her footsteps much lighter than Mizu’s had been. “Well! If it isn’t my favorite person in Suna, come on pull up a seat, either Ken is around watching -”, she glanced around knowingly, “ or he will be here shortly I would assume. Want some?” She wiggled the bottle toward Amat while still holding it protectively in her thin fingers.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Sat Dec 07, 2019 11:28 pm
"Really?" she asked, not really caring enough to mask the hint of surprise that was laced into her voice. "I'm your favorite person in Suna?" the following question was unvoiced, but loud enough for Mizuki to likely interpret it. Why? A pause as she looked at the bottle in the older woman's hand. "I have something for him, but I suppose it could wait." she stuffed the scroll into a hidden pocket in her voluminous sleeve before approaching. She took a sharp inhale of the bottle from where she stood as Mizuki offered her some. "What is it? Is it supposed to smell this bad?" her nose was wrinkled at the acrid scent of the liquor. It brought up old memories- four to five years ago back in Volcano country, her father had gained a liking for stuff like this before he snapped. Was it this liquid, she wondered, that had led him to act the way he had? Did that small bottle hold so much power? Curiously, if Mizuki allowed her to, she would bring it to her lips, having to stand on the tips of her toes to meet the older woman on top of the desk.

She wasn't expecting the burning, awful taste, but by then her mouth was completely full. If she spit it out all over the woman in front of her like her first instinct was she would actually shrivel up and die of embarrassment then and there, so she tried to swallow it as quickly as she could. A violent cough wracked her upper body as a few stinging drops trailed down her windpipe. "You people actually drink this for fun?" she wondered aloud. "It tastes rotten..." Her mouth puckered as she tried to forget the feeling of liquor on her tongue. She wiped her mouth and swallowed again, hoping saliva would wash it away. Of course, she was wrong. She thrust it back into Mizuki's hands after a moment, having momentarily forgotten that she was still holding the offending object. At least now she knew she wasn't missing out on anything...

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Tue Dec 10, 2019 3:55 pm
Still holding the bottle outstretched she would give a gentle knowing smile to Amat and nodded, “You are a very curious young woman and I respect your passion -” the bottle was still in her grasp as Amat took a sniff of the acrid drink, no indeed it did smell bad to someone who hadn’t spent many mornings smelling like the stuff as Mizuki had. “- unfortunately yes it does have a rather off putting smell the-” before she could warn the young one of the more off putting and aggressive taste of the drink the bottle was already tipping to her lips, having already leaned over the table in curiosity. Oh I remember my first sip… cringing internally she would fight back a smile that was trying to form on her lips - full of amusement as the girl struggled to maintain her composure for the sake of appearances, even having to succumb to the violent coughing that ensued.

She would laugh in earnest at her next comment - the bottle hitting the table with a soft thud as Mizu doubled over slightly in laughter - “I wouldn’t say it's for fun… but it is an acquired taste, I'll give you that.” She straightened up again and took another sip, unflinching as the drink hit her tongue. “You are a very interesting person Amat- your reactions are always a highlight. What are you bring for Kenshin anyways?”

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Fri Jan 10, 2020 4:29 pm
"This?" The young Meijin held up the scroll, tilting her head as if to forget the taste. "A body. Some guy I killed outside the village gates. I wanted to talk with him, see what he wanted, but..." a pause. "Well, he kept getting closer. When I told him to halt, he attacked. You know how these things go." a pause as she kicked her feet back and forward, a rare display of the child acting her age. "I'm not really sure what I'll ask for in return, 'cause he had a pretty weird bloodline. Maybe a favor...?" she shrugged. Eyeing the bottle, she spoke up again. "...Say, do you think if I have too much of that I'll catch on fire?" the question was phrased innocently enough, but also contained a hint of seriousness that meant she was genuinely curious. She did, after all, have a fire based kekkei genkai. And she was immune to her own fire ninjutsu... Was the line of thought worth pursuing?

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Mon Jan 20, 2020 10:02 pm
Amusingly enough Mizuki was incorrect in her assumption that Kenshin was watching the situation, but she was correct in assuming that he would be returning shortly. He had been amusing himself within the newly formed Bloodworks of Suna, or at least attempting to, as the girl that he had faced had been a disappointment at best. It was to be expected, very few were able to truly stand up to him at this point and this was simply the beginners tier for the ‘arena’, but still, he had decided to leave it at one match for the day… it wouldn’t do for him to be disappointed so thoroughly twice in one day. He didn’t have his Byakugan active as he entered the hospital, but he did have his chakra sensory active as always, and as such he felt the presences of both Mizuki and Amaterasu, and while he couldn’t pinpoint their locations he suspected that the two would be waiting for him within his unofficial office. Just the thought of being able to subtly wind the hotheaded Mizuki up, all the while trying to do so in a way that Amaterasu wouldn’t be able to truly see or comprehend, sounded far more fun than the little trip he had paid to the arena, so with a small smirk on his face he would lightly up the pace of his strides.

He arrived just in time to spy Amaterasu taking a swig directly from the bottle of Awamori that had been sitting upon his desk, the drink faithfully awaiting his return from his little venture… but it seems that Mizuki and The Little Wolf had decided to make their own amusement while they waited for his return. His Monster in the making had made herself right at home on his desk, legs and feet resting upon the simple wood, her rear resting firmly upon the worn leather and soft cushioning of his favourite chair. Mizuki was next to ‘steal’ from his drink, not that he particularly cared… but would it have killed the two to use one of the glasses that he had within his desk drawers? Had they even considered just how unsanitary sharing a bottle like that was? Or was he the only sane one left within this village. No matter, what was done was done and there was no use crying over contaminated alcohol… but he would be drinking from his OTHER bottle thank you very much.

“Mizuki, Amaterasu, how are my two favourites doing today?” He would ask nonchalantly as he entered the room and moved towards one of the Cold Chambers lining the walls, not really thinking much of admitting that the two of them were his favourites. He had been quite open in his doting of Amaterasu and had even declared her to be his apprentice, and Mizuki… well, the little game that had been started upon their first meeting should have been enough of a clue to her. As he reached it he would simply open it and pull another chilled bottle of Awamori, along with a small metal pan filled with frozen water.

“A glass please Mizuki, you should remember which drawer they’re in” The Raggedy Man would ask simply, the smirk upon his face only growing as he sat on the opposite side of the desk, placing the bottle upon some of the more useless paperwork that littered his somewhat messy workstation. Should she retrieve a glass for him he would use a single finger to shatter the ice within the metal pan, before grabbing a handful of the shards and placing them within the glass and pouring himself a drink. He would go to raise the glass before pausing, looking at Amaterasu out of the corner of his eye, then chuckling lightly and extending the glass towards her.

“I think you’ll find this far more pleasant than your last one” Was all that he would state, his tanned hand simply holding the glass out for Amaterasu to take.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Mon Jan 27, 2020 4:44 pm
Amaterasu titled her head to the side as Kenshin walked in, eyeing his posture and body language before settling back to her normal, more relaxed stance. "Do you want a body?" she asked bluntly, watching as he pulled out a small pan filled with ice. "The person who had it looked like a fish- do you think that's a kekkei genkai?" the scroll with said corpse inside seemed to intensify in weight as it rested inside the palm of her hand. A pause as she accepted the glass cautiously, before looking back up at the two people watching her. A tentative sip later, and she found that it burned considerably less. After a couple delicate sips, she placed it down- she'd probably leave alcohol to the adults. They're already weird, anyways. Another pause. "...I learned Mystical Palm by reading your notes. I can't do any other medical jutsu, though." she tilted her head forwards, not quite knowing what to say, and instead electing to let the two people in the room with her do most of the talking.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:06 am
It had been a bit since Kai had talked with Amaterasu, an interesting child that Kenshin has taken a liking to. Unsurprisingly, Kai could see why. She was strong, naive, and curious. Most importantly though, she was young. Altogether that made her extremely easy to mold into whatever it is you wanted her to be, of done correctly.

Mizuki had been completely different. Worldly, in the sense that she no longer retained a child-like, or any type really, innocence about the world. Where Amat seemed to struggle to understand how and why people acted or felt certain ways, Mizuki had been incredibly intuitive. Adept at hiding the truth behind her own thoughts and emotions, she excelled at picking out the same things in others while maintaining whatever facade she had decided on using. What Kai liked most about the girl though, was her ability to see and accept a situation as it was instead of fighting helplessly against the flow of fate and her own inadequacies. Not to say that she wouldn’t be able to advance past her shortcomings, as it seemed she had already begun to, but that she had the rare ability to accept what she cannot change. The former Konohagakure shinobi admired that fact.

Considering what the little pyromaniac had told him about Mizuki figuring out that he had subtly placed her under a genjutsu, Kai had decided it was time for their next meeting.

It wasn’t difficult for him to track her down, though why she was in the hospital he didn’t know. Since the Demon had made the Morgue into his own private office, it probably had to do with him. Not wanting to disturb any, ahem, “private” meetings, the Uchiha activated his strongest sensory technique to gauge the situation he was potentially about to walk into. What he saw both surprised and amused him. Instead of Kenshin, both Mizuki and Amaterasu were in the Morgue. Judging from the flow of chakra within their bodies, Mizuki seemed to be enjoying herself and Amaterasu wasn’t that far off from that. He also noted Kenshin approaching at a casual pace not far from them. Ending the technique, he went back to suppressing his chakra, as was his habit, and made his way down to his master’s office.

”A glass please Mizuki, you should remember which drawer they’re in”

”Actually, make that two, if you don’t mind,” he said with a mischievous smile as he entered the room. Even though he knew what to expect, it was still an amusing sight. Mizuki, bottle in hand with her feet up on the Demon’s desk, the small form of Amaterasu with a mostly blank and semi-innocent look on her face, and what he could only assume was an equally amused Kenshin taking in the scene before him. Hopefully it wasn’t too presumptuous to tell Mizuki to give him a glass as well.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Wed Jan 29, 2020 1:40 am
The bottle was still clasped in her hand, body still stretched out across the impeccably organized desk when Amat raised her question to her - in spite of herself she laughed, a curious note of wonder in it that shocked even herself. It was a funny question to consider really and had she more medical background she might be able to determine that very question for her, but all Mizu could do was laugh at the off handedness that Amat had when asking. What a joy she was to be around, being able to embody a wholesomeness that was yet to be lost to the path she was walking. It was a sobering fact to think how much was robbed from Mizu as a child to have lead to her psyche as it was now- yes Amat had been through a lot, The Little Wolf had been through tragedy but she was stronger than that event, having maintained a semblance of innocence no matter how shallow. “You know Amat,”,she struggled to maintain an even composed tone, “You’re spirit is fiery enough, lets not tempt fate.”

“Mizuki, Amaterasu, how are my two favorites doing today?”

Her eyes flashed to the doorway as the sound of his voice reached her, her view partially blocked by Amats small frame. Her eyes were alight with her usual fire again, the brilliant violent stood out more in the lighting as they traced his path to the wall and watched him pull another bottle of Awamori, and a small metal pan filled with frozen water. De Ja Vu. She couldn’t help but smirk at the memory, knowing all too well she was breaking his first ever rule he made in this very room to her. She settled herself firmly down into the chair relaxing even more as he sat opposite her, the same smirk playing on his face - his request was simple enough so she obliged, willowy as she was she was able to easily reach the drawer. “I do infact know where the glasses are kept,-”, her eyes flashed back up to Amat, “, but I always believed a first drink should be straight from the bottle itself, really gives homage to the liquor.” Setting the glass down in front of him she would begin to lean back into a settled position, her legs shifted a little more to the side of the desk to make room.

”Actually, make that two, if you don’t mind.”

She froze for a heartbeat, being taken by surprise by the newcomer - Kai, the Uchiha who had placed her under a genjutsu … and the Uchiha who had given her chakra reserves. An oddity among shinobi and even more so among Missing Nin, she had yet to determine just how much she trusted him but she felt no need to change her behavior from before. She was very comfortable in the company she was in and it was time to see if he was worth having around. Glancing at Kenshin out of the corner of her eye, her face having snapped toward Kai as he had spoken - the look she gave Kenshin was one of slight amusement and a look of ‘This guy huh?’. Taking another swig from the bottle she still gripped she leaned over slightly and grabbed the second glass from the still open drawer, placing it lightly in front of Kai as he approached the desk. Instead of releasing her hand from over the top of the glass she began to speak, “Nice to see the real you Kai.”, her tone was mostly joking but it held a slight edge of warning at the end. She would grant an empty smile before smoothly removing her hand from the top of the glass and pouring a healthy amount for him. “For ice you might be out of luck unless our gracious Host is willing to share his bucket.”, she stated matter of factly, glancing back at Kenshin with a true smile pulling at the edge of her lip.

“You know… I don’t think we have ever been in the same room all at once. All having a nice friendly drink and selling body parts. Almost like a real family.”, she mock sighed and pulled the bottle one armed into her chest as if she was truly moved by the scene in front of her. It was a rather odd get together if you looked at it objectively, the members of Sunagakure were an odd bunch that seemed to blend better together than one would think. There was something in that that couldn’t be manufactured - but should be exploited. Turning her eyes back to Amat and Kenshin she would continue musing out loud, “In fact now that we are all together, now might be a brilliant opportunity to talk about any plans might have… as a group.” As she finished her sentence her eyes were firmly on Kenshin, waiting to gauge his reaction as always.

The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin] Empty Re: The Parting Glass [Mizuki, Kenshin]

Sat Feb 01, 2020 4:20 pm
Kenshin would watch from the corner of his eyes as Amaterasu took a few tentative sips of the drink, absentmindedly listening to the rather blunt words that flowed from her lips. He would allow a small smile to form on his face as she admitted to learning how to perform the Mystical Palm technique from his notes, small traces of pride filling his being at the thought. The Reaper would chuckle lightly and extend his hand towards Amaterasu, allowing the appendage to rest upon the crown of her head and ruffle lightly. She was almost like a pet, but at the same time… not, if that made sense… hmm, was this perhaps what being a parent was like? He supposed in a way it was, but at the same time it really wasn’t… and for that he was eternally grateful.

“I’m quite proud of your current growth Amaterasu, as well as your endless thirst for more knowledge and power… it reminds me a lot of myself, but make no mistake you are your own person. You are far more powerful than I was at your age, and truth be told I don’t think I could hold a candle to you when it comes to fire release techniques…” The usually stoic and uncaring Kenshin would say, the smile on his face not the usual smirk, but something that conveyed what appeared to be genuine affection for his young charge. How glad he was that he ran into her in the black market so long ago… she had proved to be quite the investment, and truth be told he had indeed become quite fond of the blunt child, and not only because she reminded him so much of himself.

“And yes, of course I’d be interested in such a fascinating sounding corpse. I will, of course, pay for it, and it’s quite likely that our next anatomy lesson may involve this particular cadaver, but this time I will be learning alongside you” He would then state, an almost eager grin starting to form upon his face as he casually discussed corpse dissection amongst his strange circle of friends and confidants. Sure, there were only two of them… but that’s more than he could ever truly say he had possessed in the past, quite sad really, but he truly couldn’t afford to trust in anyone save himself in those days.

As he asked for his glass he would hear the familiar voice of Kai request a second glass, a request that Mizuki obliged, before providing Kai with a small statement that made Kenshin's eyes light up in amusement. Oh he just had to know what Kai had done, and what better way to get him in the mood to talk then to provide him with some ice for the liquor that would loosen his tongue. Mizuki would be the one to continue speaking though, likening their strange little group to a family, and truth be told he could see it in a way. They were certainly a dysfunctional one, but no family was perfect, and it was quite clear that everyone here cared for the others in their own strange ways.

Alas, the mood was changed when Mizuki continued to speak, all but asking him what the future plans of this little group and their end goals would end up being. He would allow his dull red eyes to flicker to Mizuki for but a moment, a hint of irritation and annoyance in his gaze but a petulant mixture of a frown and a scowl on his face, clearly showing that it was mostly done in jest. Reaching over he would take the glass deposited by Amaterasu, still more than half filled due to her tentative sips, and down the entire glass.

“I suppose this is as good a time as any to discuss my future plans, and the roles that you and others will play. First things first… Suna, it will remain our base of operations, but soon we will be establishing rules for those that wish to live in the village, and punishments for those that choose to willingly disobey.” The Ragdoll would state with a serious look upon his face, allowing his fingers to clasp together and cover his mouth as he leaned forward

“I aim to turn Sunagakure into a haven for the strong, welcoming those from any and all village or walk of life to enter and test their strength against other fighters of worth. We will, of course, be offering less than moral ways for people to increase their strength while within our walls, for the right price of course. There is no true catch here, aside from the fact that we will inevitably draw both powerful fighters and powerful enemies who are uncomfortable with the idea of what we are. I have no true goals of world domination or destruction, simply to create a haven for the strong, and a haven for those that do not wish to submit to the broken village system. In essence… I will be transforming Sunagakure from a husk of the broken village system into something new, not quite a black market but not quite a village, something in between. Not exactly the most reaching of goals I know, nor the most exciting… but I have come to realise that I don’t actually care enough about this wretched world to try and force any sort of change. I refuse to play the pathetic games of the village system, and I refuse to become a pawn that tries to create lasting change… I simply want to create a place for those that want no part of any of this”
