Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Night Of The Dead [Open]

Mon Oct 22, 2018 3:30 pm
The lives of those no longer roaming the world could not be cherished if their deaths were solely mourned. Only their demise remembered, leaving a hole in those they'd managed to touch along their journey, those they'd became a part of through some means. The day prior to this one, blood was shed in remembrance to mix with the tears of loss. Tonight, people danced and sung to their hearts content so that they could treasure the gift of life. The duality between the two days brought a comfort to many, knowing that despite the darkness of the day before there was always a light they could look forward to the day after. To know that their lost would never be forgotten like the other villages.. that they'd always be worshiped and looked upon as heroes traversing the afterlife.

Intricately carved torches depicting different creatures were slowly consumed by flames all throughout the village, a sign that not everything was permanent in this world, yet they could be beautiful all the same. Citizens of Kirigakure let their hair down all around the village, but they centralised more around the docks where the biggest festivities were held. Great pyres were stationed throughout the busy docks, roaring with life as the embers danced higher and higher. The salt of the sea hung heavy in the air, burning the lungs of those by the docks yet combined with the smoke trailing into the sky it almost brought a feeling of comfort.. of belonging. The nearby buildings sparsely decorated with banners depicting dancing figures and a handful of legends in the village. Children and adults alike laughed and wooped throughout the village, twirling in and out from the crowds without a care in the world, a sheer contrast to the events a day before.

Blending in with the masses stood a figure clad in body paint, smeared with a combination of white and black paint to resemble a skeleton so that he could pay homage to those whose lives had been sacrificed to provide for this village, either being used as the foundation or for the advancement. His hair temporarily dyed back to its old white hung loose and the man would not seem like his true self at all as he wandered through the crowds, a torch burning in his hand. The reincarnated man wandered throughout his peers so that he could stand in front of the greatest bonfire of them all. The one that dozens of trees from the other islands fed into with a depiction of a humanoid form standing inside of it. The flames distantly flickered in the grey eyes of the man, a vision bestowed from the fiery incarnation.

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Mon Oct 22, 2018 4:08 pm
Yet another night he found himself swept in amongst the crowd. While the night before had not been as quiet as expected, the day had brought in a new level of energy within the village. The rituals of the night contrasted heavily with that of the day he had noted. A more sombre affair had been blasted into the past through sheer force of will as the village screamed out in celebration. The young man found himself taken aback by it all. Such traditions were lost to him. Having spent the majority of his years growing up in a village that valued advancement more than that of tradition the concept of these two days were mostly lost to him.

Now Takeo found himself once more drifting through the crowd. More than once had he been swept up to accompany another in a dance. It was bewildering. Almost as if the night before had not occurred at all was the difference that startling. 'I'm not going to survive this day intact.' The man thought to himself as once more he was swept up into the crowd. The once more crowd seemed to be heading in one direction. The flickering lights of the fires ahead shone brightly in the night. For the second time Kirigakure was showing it's presence to the world. The small islands would not simply roll over and fade into obscurity.

The white haired man was more than happy to allow himself to be brought along. The joy was infectious. Children dove in and around the legs of the adults as they played their own little games. The adults themselves were different from the previous night. Their faces were lit up with smiles and laughter filled the air. A great relief had been lifted from their shoulders. Takeo felt it too. While it had been brief, he finally felt at peace with at least one of his regrets during his life. It had been time to move on.

Finally Takeo's eyes set upon the centrepiece of the gathering. A twisted and gnarled humanoid figure constructed from numerous pieces of timber. The wood from the other bonfires crackled, the embers being sent about the night sky from the wind. It wouldn't have looked out of place the previous night. Yet it seemed to have a different meaning now. It was lost to him, a foreigner in this land, yet the villagers looked upon the great pyre in awe. Takeo himself would have gazed too, lost in his own world as he gazed into the flames. Yet his attention had been caught by a familiar figure. They stood by the largest of the bonfires torch in hand. Takeo blinked, his mind seemingly playing tricks on him as the figure appeared to have white hair.

He shook his head. There was no point in questioning the reasoning of the other man. Instead Takeo simply made his way through the crowd and approached. The man would stop parallel to the figure on his left hand side. "You picked a good day to return." He said after a moment. Takeo's eyes stared forward toward the bonfire. "I'm sorry for not making it. I had personal things to deal with." The man would flash a grin after a moment seemingly amused by his own thoughts, "Though since you have returned it seems I wasn't needed anyway."

Becoming silent Takeo would await a response. If all had gone well then this night had more reason to be one of celebration. Though if his own fears were to be realised then there would be many more nights like before to come.

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Mon Oct 22, 2018 5:41 pm
Nero looked at the bear-shaped wooden totem in his hand one final time. He threw it into the fire in front of him. "Be at peace Sera.".

In his past years, he had always enjoyed the first day of the festival more than the second. It was more "Kiri" in his words. Today, he believed he finally truly understood the importance of the second day. The meaning of it. He looked at the keg beside him. It was full of high quality beer, not that it could be seen from the outside. From the outside it looked wooden but the inside of the keg was covered in glass so it would keep the beer clean.

He held the keg above his shoulder once again, and kept moving with the crowd. He didn't have a clear goal, he was just trying to take in every bit of the festival, and enjoy every minute of it. Along the way, he would offer people beer, and make them a mug out of ice to hold it. Nero had realized it was a much better way to offer people beverages. He was both saving money on glasses, and distributing joy in a more sanitary way. Finally his Yuki heritage was coming in handy. Well, hopefully it would one day come in handy when fighting for the Mizukage, speaking of which...

Out of the corner of his eye Nero saw a familiar figure. Kiri was really a small town, wasn't it? He walked over to the man he had met the day before. It was impossible not to sense him, even if he had been unseen by Nero's eyes. A few seconds later, the Yuki approached the man, and only when he was close enough to speak with him in a regular tone did he see the second man standing beside him. Nero's senses must have been blinded by Takeo. Otherwise there was no way he could have missed this man; who had highly impressive chakra reserves as well. Were these two always in town, had Nero not noticed sooner? Either way, there he stood with them.

"Hey Takeo!" he said from the man's right side, "Enjoying this day of the festival more, I hope? Will you be joining the activities today? Oh, before I forget...". He created a mug in his left hand, turning cold air into thin ice. "Beer?". If either of the man accepted Nero's offer, he would pour them a glass of beer, and hand it to them while reminding, "Careful while handling the ice, it is broken easily.".

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Tue Oct 23, 2018 11:20 am

Chiaki wore a proper silk kimono and his own silken hair loose and free to play with the wind on this tragically beautiful day. His lips were painted black and a skeleton was depicted on his face, a mix of geometric sharpness and elegant swirls. The Shinigami had not come for many of his loved ones, but the one it had taken away, he had never even had chance to meet. His mother. How could he mourn her loss when he never had anything to lose from it? So he would celebrate that she had ever been alive, and hope that wherever she watched, she would be somewhat proud of the man he was becoming.

He drifted and twirled through the festivities, his eyes wandering in search of a friendly face or two. He spotted the familiar blue-white hair of his distant cousin, accompanied by a barrel of wood. Chiaki sped up. "Nero," he called out. The other did not hear him, perhaps distracted or overwhelmed by another presence, so Chiaki followed after him. He slowed down slightly as they neared the two other men. "Dearest cousin, won't youpour me one as well?" he asked as he drew closer to them. "No better way to enjoy festivities than to enjoy them drunk, after all."

He peeked curiously at the other two men. "Friends of Nero's, I take it? I am Chiaki."

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Fri Oct 26, 2018 10:50 am
Oriton took a deep breath as he strolled through town. It wasn't the worst day by any means; it was a day of celebration. There were way worse days in his history, such as "The Blood Games" and the day he had to leave his own home. Although, you could say that this day was somewhat related to it. He tightened the strings of his hoodie as he heads outside, the misty air felt slightly different from every other one. It carried emotions, the shouts of children, and the laughter of adults sharing a drink. The boy himself was confused, was this a day of mourning or a day of cheer? It was more on the celebratory side; he hadn't come out to grief when he was supposed to. He would do that today.

There were many places for people to pay their respects to the people whose lives had passed from the previous day. Although there were too many to go to separately, there was one large totem with many flickering torches set up. Oriton took a breath as he passed by the symbol, turning towards it and looking on it with sullen eyes. He bowed his head and kneeled, scooping up a pile of dirt in his hands. He was quiet for a moment, all the sounds around him fading out of existence.

"To all the people," Oriton started, staring back up towards the respecting symbol, "Who I wasn't able to save." He rolled his wrist forward, the dirt falling back to its resting place. He wiped at his face, getting rid of the condensation. He wasn't sure if it his were his tears or the weather, but the sinking feeling his stomach reassured and the slow floating mist assured him it was both. He stood up from the ground, wiping himself off. Getting rid of stray dirt.

The boy didn't feel like going home, knowing his parents would be all over him to make sure he was okay, he heads deeper into town. He led himself through the crowded streets of Kirigakure, smiling at small children who bumped into him, and shaking hands of proud men; happy that their family had died with some sense of glory. Some totems were more prominent than others, most families were large, but there were the occasional that were smaller.

Oriton took another deep breath and sighed. He continued to walk along but stopped as he ran into a crowd of villagers. "I apologize," He said to the man he bumped into and began to weave through the crowd. In the front stood a figure, a glorious figure constructed of many pieces of wood. Although it wasn't alive, the villagers cheered and stared at it happily. Oriton stopped for a few to look at it but then continued to move on. Just looking at the powerful figure made a flame burn in his gut.

What a day this was.

As he was distracted, he ended up bumping into an unfamiliar person. It was even worse; it felt as if he was interrupting a conversation. "I'm sorry ma'am, excuse me," He would say to Chiaki. He went to leave, but ended up in front of a familiar face, "Ah, Nero! I didn't see you there. How have you been?"

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Sat Oct 27, 2018 10:48 am
Among the bright, busy streets of Kirigakure in full festival, a young man wound his way through the crowds on a mission.  Children passed by in every direction, out skipping and playing tag and wrestling, with adults stopping to pat them on the head and sneak them sweets with warm smiles.  But the blonde genin in black combat pants, a white T shirt, and his Kiri headband was following a trail of broken and discarded ice mugs that each had begun to melt into puddles, mixing mix with the beer they had been carrying.

The path lead to the central fire, complete with effigy, and there he found his quarry - the tall ninja he had been seeing all too much of recently.  However, Nero wasn't alone, with several other people around him, including the man from last night and those with various shades of blue and white hair.   Hayate closed the distance, addressing the keg wielding manic.

"Hey Genius!  You're leaving a shattered trail behind you.  Ice mugs might keep the beer cool, but not everyone can just hold onto ice for long periods like your Yuki....."  Hayate cut off mid sentence and mid insult as his gaze trailed off to the left a bit.  The white haired figure he didn't recognize before was heavily painted, and it took him a moment to identify the previously blue haired Kage in this state, but it was definitely the same figure he saw in the portrait hung in the Kiri Kenjutsu academy day after day.

"Mizukage!"  Hayate pulled a short bow in surprise.  "I'm sorry.... I Didn't mean to... I'll just be..."  Hayate struggled to get his words together.

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Sat Oct 27, 2018 11:16 am
The presence of Takeo brought a comfort that was indescribable to the white-haired skeleton, almost evoking an emotion in the man that was so renowned for lacking them. Father had drilled it into him from a young age that family was all he would ever have, everyone else was disposable but family would always have your back.. a funny notion, come to think of it, as Takeo and Xyxer had been split up in their youth to carry out their own lives in separate villages.. yet life found a way to draw their destinies together once more.

Tossing his torch into his other hand, the arm of the Mizukage reached out to his brother and pulled him into a side hug, his hand rubbing through the man's white locks, some of his black paint rubbing off into them as an after-effect of the heat, "Rejoice, brother, I'm still alive after all." He turned to look at him with a wry grin himself as they momentarily shared a comfort that they were both foreign to, "You aren't getting off so light next time though, I'm afraid." At this point a man with a keg had shown up beside Takeo, offering them both alcohol. He was tempted, yet he resisted. A faint shake of his head as he withdrew his arm from his brother. If he dared to indulge in alcohol, he was unsure on how he would act in this tumultuous time of his life; the risk was too great.

It would later come to pass that Nero was quite the figure in the village as quite a few shinobi came by to speak to him, all the while Xyxer had now drifted slightly away as he danced with the people of the village and crouched to the level of the children, mock fighting them yet allowing them to prevail over the dastardly skeleton of death. Fine fighters they were on this, besting the Mizukage without a trickle of sweat, yet few of them knew of the man they'd encountered.

That was soon to change when Xyxer heard a man cut off mid-sentence close to them, and he stood up from one particular child that was now chuckling like a hyena, turning his gaze just as the words started to leave his mouth. He was going to be exposed on a night where all were equal, aside from the youth. A single finger came up from the Mizukage to cover his lips, ushering a silence to the young boy who was about to address him by his title. Should he heed the request, Xyxer would offer him a faint nod while he went about bolstering the confidence of those who would one day ensign into his vast armies, and help him stake his claim on the world that was rightfully his.

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

The reaction of his brother was surprising to say the least. In response Takeo clapped a hand onto his twins shoulder as a return gesture. "I'm sure the details will be interesting to say the least, but another time." He commented as he removed his hand. The brief moment shared between the brothers was shattered upon the arrival of several others, one of which he recognised as Nero from the previous night. "I'll take one." Takeo responded to Nero's question. With an icy glass of beer in his hand he would take note of his brother being dragged further into the crowd.

Host, we must talk.

I'm busy.

It was not a request.

The white haired man sighed as he took a sip of his drink. "Another time." He repeated mostly to himself before he disappeared into the crowd.

[Exit]

Apologies, something has come up so I'll save having to wait to be skipped.

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Mon Oct 29, 2018 2:52 am
Kiri really was a small town wasn't it? It's like, almost everyone Nero knew seemed to be in the same place whenever there was the smallest event. Well, today wasn't a small event to be fair. It was one of the fairly bigger ones. Nero's long-lost cousin who he had reunited with only recently was there as well. "Hey Chiaki. Can you make a mug for yourself or... Nevermind, I got you." Nero said, as he poured him a mug as well. "Okay, well. See you later Takeo." he said to the white haired man who had to leave them. There were so many people to address, Nero was getting confused. "Hi Oriton! Glad to see you're joining the festival.""Hey Hayate! I thought the way of Kiri was to toughen our people. Especially those who are old enough to drink beer. I doubt they can survive our weather if they can't hold ice in their hands.".

He offered his beer to the long, white haired man Takeo seemed to know, who had shushed Hayate before he could spill out his identity. Nero had to ask, "I'm sorry friend, I didn't catch your name. A friend of Takeo's? Haven't seen you around much before. A newcomer, perhaps? Or one who returned home recently?".

Lastly, Nero decided to address everyone, "So... We've got quite a company here, it seems. Where do all of you want to head first? Do you want to offer gifts to the children, plant trees, take part in the competitions going on across the village? I don't know, invade an uninhibited island?".

Night Of The Dead [Open] Empty Re: Night Of The Dead [Open]

Wed Oct 31, 2018 6:56 pm
Chiaki was in the middle of taking the icy mug when he was bumped into by somebody from behind. He looked over his shoulder at the taller boy and smiled sweetly. "Next time, watch where you're going and you won't have to apologize." His voice was melodic and smooth, the timbre of his voice straddling the line between feminine and masculine.

Instead of continuing to berate the taller boy, his attention was dragged to the arrival of yet another person, who made his entry by calling Nero names. Chiaki turned his head sharply and took the ice mug, inhaling deeply so he could properly berate the guy yelling at his cousin. The guy stopped midway though, staring oddly at one of the white-haired men. Chiaki followed their gaze and stared oddly at the painted man, catching the tail-end of their shushing gesture. "Miz...?" He frowned and lifted the icy mug to his lips to take a sip. "Why wouldn't he want us to know his name?"

After Nero finished addressing everybody present, Chiaki would pipe up, "Perhaps an exchanging of names is due?" He smiled politely at the group and bowed deeply. "Chiaki Yuki. Pleasure to meet you all."

Once all introductions were said and done—or glossed over—he said, "While invasion sounds like quite the fun activity, we should celebrate what we have right now."
