Into Fire {Entrance} Empty Into Fire {Entrance}

Roku walked.

He walked for quite a fair distance, from his usual haunts near the Village Hidden in the Mist all the way to Konoha. Seeking power, training, prey, anything. It was an arduous walk, yet one of the few things he could think about was that he had stolen a pair of boots because his shoes had become so worn. Luckily, they fit, snugly made for an old fisherman of minor stature. The situation was just amusing in some way, partially because it was the only one that continued swirling about his mind and partially because it was darkly humorous that the only thing he had gained thus far by leaving familiar territory was a pair of boots.

There was very little to do on this walk but train to some extent, keeping his body athletic as he grew and making sure to hunt and forage a proper diet. His height had increased a little bit, although he couldn’t measure it. Such was background information, occupied as the boy’s mind was by his venture, but the fact that puberty was becoming a thing did not escape his notice. It was no unfortunate circumstance and it would be nice to look less like an eight-year-old, but adolescence was a time period that there were complaints of from almost every teenager he encountered, and if not them it was their parents doing the talking. His Earth Grudge Fear had become easier to utilize, with less difficulty in releasing his threads from his body and a pleasant pain settling along his skin when it was in use, a plus that may have resulted from the growth. But actually becoming taller, gaining some size, that was something to look forward to.

Such were nominal details in the grand scheme of things, especially as Roku neared his destination. There were, of course, events on his journey that had some impact; every meal he had eaten was stolen, and every bit of shelter was not his by name. But the basic survival that had been his childhood thus far was not any different on this walk, simply a bit more exhausting with his unceasing effort. It had been the most arduous task he had endured and probably would remain so for quite some time.

Roku did not walk very fast.

Disturbances were clear as he neared the village, even from a great distance; there was some manner of massive storm less than a week before he arrived, and it was such an occurrence that it would be impossible to ignore. Hopefully, there would still be a village when he made it. Or maybe it would be better to hope there was no village and he could make the rubble his new home. That would certainly be neat. But alas, any massive phenomena had dispersed before his presence. The storm left almost as suddenly as it had begun, and whatever mass cacophony existed was no longer.

The rest of the long walk was spent in thought about what to expect upon his arrival; his kind were distinctly unwelcome in villages most of the time, but he was too afraid to continue living alone outside the Mist. His options were to join them, die, or leave, and although joining was not particularly unappealing, it was also potentially fatal. Such had created the grand debate about what to do with his life, but it was the fear that really locked in the answer. Fear gave way to anger, and anger gave way to clarity; strength was the only option, but it was better gained from the Leaf than with the same village who had killed the strongest man that had ever been in his life. Although maybe that was the exact sign that they should be the ones he joined, his slight frame and rather fragile nature made such an arduous task as fitting into the Mist exponentially more dangerous.

The Leaf seemed like the most reasonable option, an upstanding place that he had heard legends about; in the same breath, one could hear rumors of the weakness that had spread through the once shining Konoha machine. There was no good way for Roku to deduce what was true and what was false, but it felt better than the blatant risk of his life by even approaching the Mist village. They had to be strong, but was power what he wanted to risk his life so boldly over? Although power was important, was it as important as life itself?

His first impression of the Leaf was less than glamorous, a feeling of disgust and regret brewing upon his initial glance. The formerly mighty gate, the subject of many a tale, was no longer so great. There had to have been an attack sometime rather recently, an intense storm in multiple ways. The buildings near the front had been damaged by likely the same massive blast, and although repairs had been slightly enacted, it was yet to conceal the scars. It must have been a delightful sight, but without having seen the causation, it instead only fueled Roku's revulsion at what he thought he could make a home. However, it would leave an opportunity for predation upon an otherwise useless place at the very least. But the storm left a suspicion in his mind, a creeping thought that slowly seemed like an inevitability. Something would be here for him. The walk would not be in vain.

The boy walked through the former battlefield like a ghost, a wavering wisp of war that seemed it might disappear as swiftly as he had made an appearance, and his boots carried him to the sole focus of his white pupils; a slightly blurry, shaded idea of the Hokage building down the road.

More gate duty. Oh joy. This was the third day in a row that Jason had been assigned to the gates. Seriously it was like some outside power was determined to make sure he watched over konoha and made sure no unauthorized persons entered the village. Speaking of unauthorized persons, there was one right now. Before the kid had made it within 15 meters of the gate, Jason would yell down to the newcomer.

“Halt! State your business.”

If the kid did as he was told, then likely no harm would come to him. If not, well he wasn’t going to like what came next.

A voice rang down from the gates at the young shinobi, catching his attention. That was something to be kind of expected. at least the village still had guards. Roku tilted his head just to examine the character behind the voice. Not an awful looking person, a younger man who didn't hold himself in a very threatening fashion.

"I'm here for power, hopefully to be gained by joining your village."

His answer came out in an unwavering, pleasantly carrying fashion; Roku had half expected a stuttering voice crack to be his first impression, but it seemed he was truly quite unfazed. After only a couple seconds of stillness, he resumed his walk toward the village leader's office with all the naive belief that he would be let in without further trouble. His intent truly was peaceful, or at the very least lacking malicious intent.

After a moment of thought, he directed a question back up to the guard at the gate.

"Is there any way you could help me with that?"

‘Oh great, a power hungry idiot’ Jason thought to himself, rolling his eyes. He wasted no time in firing off a warning shot to the kid in the form of a kunai which was aimed to land in the ground just in front of the moron since he chose to continue walking. “I told you to stop. If you continue the next one won’t miss” he said, his tone obviously one of boredom. “And you wasted a trip coming here. No one allowed in that isn’t one of us. Holage’s ordars. Turn around and leave or the next one will be between your eyes faster than you can blink.”

If the kid didn’t listen again, he’d probably be dead before he knew it.

The boy blinked, looking from the kunai to the gate and back to the shinobi who had directed him away. "It was quite a long trip to just waste." What would most aptly be described as a hollow and sad acceptance made up his tone and his manner became almost listless. The definition of travel and the inherently risky nature of certain journeys began to weigh in Roku's mind, the idea that he had taken some undefinable blur of months and turned such a time into movement only to be so denied by circumstance. "But I suppose."

Well, the point of the whole trip had been circumvented, and he would need to train on his own which was almost the reason he had come all this way. But still, it remained a necessity of life. Turning around and simply walking away felt strange, though it was also requisite to living in the circumstance.

Roku made his way the most nearby intact trees, a far shorter stroll than his last at only about 100 meters, thinking about what exactly to do after he got done setting up camp there.
