Stranger In Your Own Home [p] - Page 2 Empty Re: Stranger In Your Own Home [p]

Tue Jan 23, 2018 2:22 pm
Kotsuzui listened as Hikari informed the Kaguya that leaving the village to follow Xyxer back to Kirigakure wasn't going to be a problem for her. Especially if it meant she could train under the Mizukage. In all honesty Kotsuzui didn't see anything wrong with wanting to learn from the Mizukage even after what he had done to their village. In all likeliness he would also be learning from Xyxer if he too were to go to Kiri. The only thing that may be a problem was whether of not Xyxer was openly willing to just train people that required it. Being the man who now ruled over two villages likely required quite a bit of work. Would he even have he time to start training people? If so, what would that training even look like? The ninja of Konoha were so spoiled as shinobi that they probably have never seen the likes of what Kiri goes through in their training. But if that was something Hikari truly wanted then Kotsuzui wasn't going to try and tell her otherwise. It wasn't his place to do so. If someone had a path ahead of them to get stronger then that was their own prerogative. "I hope you like water" Kotsuzui replied to Hikari's point on always wanting to travel, half jokingly. "I hear there's a lot of that in Kiri." For a brief moment he wondered what it would be like to be surrounded by the blue of the sea instead of all the greenery and forestry that surrounded Konoha.

Kotsuzui continued as he spoke about why Hikari and Salzem were not the same, and why she was in fact strong. As he spoke he hadn't been watching the Hyuuga beside him so he couldn't see how she was reacting to his words. But one could imagine. He knew he words wouldn't go over to well with Hikari. After all he had been talking about Salzem being weaker than the rest. Judging by how close the two were with one another, the words likely took their toll on Hikari. But she seemed to be doing well in hiding her true feelings to Kotsuzui's harsh words about her brother, for the moment. Her reply showed obvious signs that she did not agree with Kotsuzui and that she did not see things the same way the Kaguya did. In her eyes she had failed at her job. Failed because she couldn't save Salzem. Failed because she healed Kotsuzui but was incapable of healing anyone else. Failed because there was the possibility of them dying. Funny how these things worked. One see themselves as a failure while the next person doesn't.

"What a medic is suppose to do and what a medic actually does are two very different things, Hikari" Kotsuzui replied in response to her first remark. "Everyone knows that a medic is suppose to put their own lives on the line to save others, just like as Shinobi we're suppose to put our lives on the line for the village. But when it comes down to it how many actually act on it? You remember how easily we all knelt to Kiri. How easily we were willing to give up our village. It was only because of a select few Jounin that we ended up actually putting our lives on the line for our village." Kotsuzui took a brief pause, almost as if he took a breather before continuing. Basically what he had been saying was that although medics are suppose to put their lives on the line for others, when it actually came down to it it took strength to follow through. That was the strength that Hikari possessed.

That however, was the Kaguya's response to Hikari's first remark. Now came his response to her follow up. "You're too hard on yourself" he said, "Salzem's death is not on you, its on Konoha. It was the village that failed Salzem, not one medic. You kept him alive. There was no telling that he was going to die after that." He took another pause brushing his hand through his pink mohawk, almost as though he was using the brief moment to gather his thoughts before speaking out. "One medic does not hold the responsibility of healing everyone. That's just madness and nearly impossible. There are other medics within the village. You're not alone Hikari. So why put all the blame on your shoulders?" Although he ended with a question, it was more of a rhetorical one. He wasn't really expecting an answer. It was more just to prove a point than anything else.

At some point during the conversation Kotuzui managed to slip in what his plans were and Hikari replied to them with a simple nod. It was all that was needed. He knew that she understood him, understood that the village needed it as well. Kotsuzui could only hope he had what it took in order to achieve such a task. If going to Kiri was going to happen, that would be his number one task. Learn from the strongest to take everything back and help Konoha become what it use to be. But that would for future Kotsuzui to worry about. Now, he waited for Hikari's answer to his question on revenge.

She did not answer him with a mere 'yes' or 'no'. Instead she answered with her first target, the leg thief. In some ways that had been a stronger response than a simple yes. Kotsuzui slipped a glance over to Hikari by slightly turning his head over to her at the same time she had adverted her own gaze, wanting to see the expression on her face. He didn't need to make eye contact with her to know what was going through her. It was anger, hate, wrath, everything she needed to fuel her revenge. Everything Kotsuzui felt inside as well, but for different reasons. Kotsuzui turned his gaze back to the horizon as a small grin spread across his face. Being able to relate to the emotions of the Hyuuga had brought some form of amusement to the Kaguya. But why? Maybe because he knew what her intentions were, or maybe because he knew if he were in her spot he would likely want the same thing. The death of the culprit.

The name of her next victim caught the Kaguya by surprise. Not because it was a fellow Konoha shinobi, but because it was just the one. There had been a number of people to take action in striking down Salzem, but she only wanted the head of Yensung Aburame. It was likely because he was the one who coerced everyone to do it and the first to do so himself. Better that way in all honesty. Killing one Konoha ninja was a lot easier than five. But killing the one would still be a difficult task for the simple fact that they were both Konoha ninja. Kotsuzui knew very little about the Konoha Jounin other than he had trained Kisuke for a brief moment. That he was quite powerful in the use of genjutsu. Kotsuzui hated genjutsu with a passion.

"Fair enough" Kotsuzui replied. It was a simple response to the Hyuuga admitting what was likely a deep and dark secret of hers. But the Kaguya couldn't help but understand her. If someone killed Kisuke he would definitely kill them, which made Kotsuzui glad Hikari wasn't going after him. Otherwise the two sitting on top of the gates were bound to have faced one another. Normally he would have offered his services to help. But he felt as though this were something she would want to do on her own. So he was going to leave it at that unless she asked for his help. Although she may not ask for his help, but that didn't mean he couldn't help prepare her. "From what I know, the Aburame is quite skilled in the use of genjutsu. Unfortunately, I don't know much else about him or the Leg Thief. But if he was able to take down Salzem then he must be quite skilled in close quarters combat. You're going to need a lot of training to take them down. I have a certain, let's call it a 'trick', that may help you against the Aburame. I can teach it to you." But before he explained what it was, he slightly changed the path of the conversation. "Before I do, I need to know that you understand the severity of the path you're heading down. If you're too succeed, you'll be branded a traitor, a missing-nin. People from the village will be sent after you to hunt you down..." I'll be sent after you to  bring you back, or kill you. He kept that last part to himself. It was likely something she didn't need to know or already knew. Also, he was ordered not to. He needed to hear her response, her resolve to the task before he could go on to teach her the skill.

Stranger In Your Own Home [p] - Page 2 Empty Re: Stranger In Your Own Home [p]

Thu Feb 08, 2018 7:36 pm
A light, airy giggle escaped her lips as the man beside her joked about her liking water due to Kirigakure being surrounded by it. Her laughter didn’t last long, but it had happened nonetheless, as she had not been able to contain herself, having not expected Kotsuzui to be one for cracking jokes. The unexpectedness of the comment caught her off guard enough for her to find it humorous, “Haha we better hope I do, or I’ll be miserable the entire time.” Hikari didn’t think she would mind the oceanic scenery, it would be quite the contrast to her earthen home, and one that was much needed. Hikari could only hope that Xyxer would agree to help her become stronger, somehow. She wasn’t entirely sure what he would do or make her do, but she had to try at the very least. It was the only way she felt she could become stronger, to learn from the strongest, although he might have only gotten strong due to his circumstances, ones he could not replicate or help her achieve. She hoped that would not be the case, but she didn’t know enough about the Mizukage to be sure of anything at this point.

She went on to respond to his statements about herself, how she had failed as a medic during the war. His reply came soon after she finished speaking, stating with confidence that what a medic was supposed to do and what they actually chose to do were very different. In her mind, however, they were not supposed to be different, they should have matched equally. Every medic knew the moment they chose to become medical-nin that both their lives and the lives of those they heal were always on the line when it came to combat. Medics were always likely to be targeted in battle due to their ability to heal their comrades, for if the enemy shinobi had a way to continuously heal themselves and get back into the fight, those that were attacking them didn’t stand a chance, thus making medics targets to be killed. But perhaps only medical-nin could understand the vow they silently took upon entering the medical field, and that others would never be able to comprehend why. Hikari thought maybe this was happening currently with Kotsuzui, or maybe, just maybe, she was wrong and only a few medics stayed true to their word of risking their lives to save others. She couldn’t be certain which it could be, as during the war it seemed like she was one of the only shinobi to enter the battlefield and begin healing injured Konoha ninja while the enemy was around.

The second half of his remark regarding her not being a failure as a medical-nin was slightly more ironic. He compared medics duties to shinobi defending their village, and mentioned that they had gone against their beliefs, giving up the village easily when they first knelt. She couldn’t entirely agree with her friend, believing they should have continued listening, at least to see what his terms would have been before they decided to go to war. She felt they had been too rash in fighting back, and risked the lives of many for a war they already had no chance to win. It was during Kotsuzui’s brief pause that she found her voice to speak up, wanting to inquire about his position on the matter as it seemed no one had agreed with her thus far, “Was it truly worth it, to put our lives on the line for a war that could have been prevented? We didn’t even get to hear why they came to our village, for all we know he could have offered a peaceful negotiation instead of bloodshed. We also could have fought them after hearing their terms, weighing the pros and cons of what they offered.” She glanced at her companion as she spoke, her lilac eyes looking for any sign of reaction in the man beside her. Hikari had no idea how he would respond to her questions, ones he might interpret as her giving up the Will of Fire (even though she had acknowledged that even she still held a bit of flame still within her). “The Hokage had ordered all of us to kneel, yet those same Jounin betrayed her orders. How is that a display of our Will of Fire if we can’t even listen to our leader when it matters most?”

Hikari braced herself for any possible backlash Kotsuzui might give her in response to her inquires, already knowing the man beside her was a very firm believer in the Will of Fire and the actions of the Jounin that rose against Xyxer. It seemed he valued their ideals over lives, however he could end up surprising her. That wouldn’t be the first time she was shocked by the young man, his reassuringly kind actions during the end of the war had already startled her once. He had been a stranger who showed more compassion for her than anyone else that day, without even knowing the cause of her sorrow and torment.

After his reply, if he decided to give her one, he continued his own statements about her. He told her she was too hard on herself and placed the blame of Salzem on the wrong person. He too believed Konoha was at fault for her brother’s untimely end. The simple knowledge of him understanding Salzem’s death could have been prevented brought a spark of light in her otherwise sullen eyes. Someone else knew Salzem was meant to live but died at their village’s cruel hands, soiling them all in his youthfully innocent blood. Her gaze drifted away from his, scanning the ground ahead of them where the battle took place, where Salzem took his last breath. He said she kept Sal alive and did her best, and that none of them knew what was going to happen, yet Sal wasn’t just “some shinobi” to her, he was her little brother. As a big sister she was supposed to save him even if it meant giving up her own life for him.

But he was dead, and she was just sitting there, consuming air not meant for herself. Nothing Kotsuzui could say would change her mind; she felt unworthy of the life she was spared, seeing the world through new eyes that longed for an end. With each passing moment she felt less like herself, the guilt ripping away at her seams until all that remained was a shell of who she once was, a person she no longer knew. How could he say she was not at fault, when she stood by and watched the life slowly drain out of him, his crimson eyes meeting her own with a wistful gaze, desperately clinging for more time. She should have been by his side, holding him in her arms lovingly as he crossed the great divide if she could not have saved him. Instead Salzem was left alone in his final moments, succumbing to death in the embrace of frozen water and hardened earth.

She remained silent as he finished his comments, her voice trapped inside while her mind was livid, running wild with the thoughts she kept to herself. Kotsuzui would not have been proud of her if he knew what she had been thinking, the blame she continued to place on herself despite his best efforts to lead her astray and the pain she continued to put herself through every time she thought of Salzem as her eyes locked onto the muddled field where it all took place.

Her attention was salvaged from the deep confines of herself when the topic of their conversation sifted, Kots explaining his plans for the future. It was evident he too harbored deep feelings of disdain since that day, but he didn’t direct them at anyone in particular. His feelings were centered more at Kirigakure as a whole, and perhaps even himself for not being able to defeat Xyxer. She gave a small nod of acknowledgement to him, unable to bring herself to do more than that. His follow up question took her by surprise, the suddenness of his inquiry raising a few suspicious in the girl. Although his intentions were unclear, Hikari told him nonetheless of her plans, listing the two people she seeked vengeance from. Her averted eyes noted his movement as he twisted his head ever so slightly, analyzing the dark expression she wore. Noting the mixed emotions fighting over her, he turned his head back to the horizon, and she became unaware the corners of his mouth had curled upwards in a small grin. It was probably for the best that she didn’t witness the shift in his expression, saving them both from the wrath she might have shone in response to his smile. Her warped mind would not have comprehended the emotions behind his upturned mouth, mixing contemplation with amusement.

As she mentioned her second target, he seemed to understand why it was only him she was after, admitting with a simple “fair enough” that he had no qualms about her going after the Aburame. She felt a small wave of relief wash over her when he accepted the people she intended to kill, for neither of them seemed to be the people he wanted to protect. Kotsuzui even offered to assist her defenses against Yensung, agreeing to show her a trick that she could use against his Genjtusu, and then he mentioned the Kiri man was most likely a close combat fighter if he was able to defeat Salzem. Hikari agreed with his analysis of the man, having already came to the same conclusion when she thought about it as well. However, it was fortunate he knew a bit of information about Yensung, it put her at an advantage to know he specialized in Genjutsu for she could prepare herself for any Genjutsu he might throw her way and it may help her avoid getting caught in his traps.

“I’ve known since the beginning what will happen to me at the end of this path, and I’ve accepted my fate.” Her words were monotone, with a sense of resolve underneath. She would allow herself to be caught after the deeds were done, but she could not fall until their deaths were accomplished. After she obtained her revenge, Hikari could care less what happens to herself, for she deserved it in the end. Taking the life of a fellow shinobi, no matter the reason, was against their rules in the village, she knew the moment she forged her own path, yet prison would be child’s play compared to the fate she desired.

Stranger In Your Own Home [p] - Page 2 Empty Re: Stranger In Your Own Home [p]

Sun Feb 11, 2018 2:50 pm
In the brief moment Kotsuzui took as a pause from talking, Hikari took the opportunity to jump in and ask a question. She asked if it had been worth it putting their lives on the line when all the deaths could have potentially been avoided had they just heard Kiri out. She was right in saying that they had never even heard what Xyxer had offered and that there could have been a potentially peaceful negotiation instead of bloodshed and death. And once we heard their terms and had time to think about it then we could have decided whether to decline and fight back, or accept and avoid death all together. When Hikari took a pause of her own to turn and look at the Kaguya she would not meet the eyes of Kotsuzui. Kotsuzui maintained his vision looking down the horizon as he pondered her statement, giving her time to continue and finish was she had to say. She did, going on to ask how was defying the Hokage a display of Konoha's Will of Fire.

Everything Hikari had brought up were solid points and to be honest Kotsuzui wasn't sure he had the answers for her concerns. All he could was voice his own opinion on the matter and speak his mind. So he did. "We'll never know if it was truly worth it to fight back or not. You could be right that Xyxer was offering a peaceful negotiation. Only Risako knows. But do you really think the terms Kirigakure were offering were fair terms? They didn't come here simply to create an alliance with our village, otherwise they wouldn't have brought an entire army. They came to take from us. Whether you think it was worth it to fight back or simply let them take from us without resistance is entirely up to you. But I think it was. What is our job as ninja if not to protect our village when foreign invaders come knocking on our doorstep. Yeah we lost people. But just as a medic-nin knows they're signing up to put their lives on the line to save others, ninja know they're signing up to put their lives on the line to protect others."

Kotsuzui knew that Kirigakure coming to Konoha was more than just wanting to take from the village. It was also due to a personal vendetta that Xyxer held with a former Hokage of the village. He essentially came seeking for revenge to what the Hokage had done to him. Or so Kotsuzui thought. Though he wasn't entirely sure if it had been for vengeance, or closure. Maybe he was simply seeking to close a chapter in his book that has long since been opened and unfinished. He had learned a lot from his brief interaction with the Mizukage but there was still lots for him to discover about the man. "The Hokage was doing what she thought was best for the village and that was her display of her Will of Fire" Kotsuzui continued. "I don't believe the Will of Fire is one concrete concept that someone can put their finger on and say 'this is it'. It's an ideal that differs from person to person. For someone it may be keeping people alive no matter the costs like the Hokage. For others it might be fighting to protect what matters like the select few Jounin had done. One's Will of Fire does not trump anothers. If you remember, when the blonde Hyuuga refused to kneel, our Hokage did not demand her to kneel. Instead she stood and fought with us." From the way Hikari was speaking and based on the questions she was asking, it made the Kaguya believe that she would have rather avoided fighting right away and hearing what they had to say first. She may have had a point too. "Maybe you're right. Maybe it would have been better to hear them out first and potentially avoid the death of our ninja. Maybe I'm wrong. I took a knee because it was ordered of us, but I stand with the actions of the blonde who stood to Xyxer", no pun intended.

The conversation eventually lead to the topic of her targets for revenge. When Kotsuzui asked her if she knew the consequences to what her actions may bring, she replied as true as one could be. She knew what she was getting herself into and was fully accepting of it. Since Kotsuzui knew he would be able to change her mind on the matter, he decided he would do his best to help her through it. It wasn't his place anyways to try and talk her out of it otherwise. Not that he could. "What I'm going to teach you is almost like a smoke detector. But it teaches your brain to detect a genjutsu and alert you of it. It'll help you against the Aburame but you can't rely on it. The technique doesn't cancel genjutsu and if the genjutsu is too strong it will miss it entirely. But it should help" he added as he glanced over to the Hyugga for the first time in a while. "It's a tricky technique. Basically, when you're under a genjutsu the user's chakra is tampering with your mind. So you need to teach your brain to recognize when someone else's chakra is there. Once you do that you send your own chakra to the spot being manipulated. That will notify you of the presence of the genjutsu. If you practice enough you can train your brain to do is subconsciously. Unfortunately I don't have any genjutsu to help you practice it. But make sure you can figure it out before you face off with the Aburame."

With that Kotsuzui would give the Hyuuga time to speak and listen anything else she needed to voice. But his time had run its course and there were things he needed to take care of. After listening to what she had to say, unfortunately he would have to leave them unanswered. Slowly the Kaguya would rise to his full height and dust off his white clothing a bit. "I'm afraid I have to leave for now" he informed the Hyuuga. "Thanks for joining me. It's good to... talk" he'd add. Being a man of few words, this conversation had taken the Kaguya out of his usual comfort zone. But it helped to talk. He wasn't sure how or why, but it did. Whether the Hyuuga stood with the Kaguya or not did not bother him. Regardless he would meet his gaze with hers if she looked at him. "Goodbye Hikari. Take care of yourself. I'll be seeing you around" he added one final time. But that would only be if Hikari was able to go to Kiri. If not their meetings would be limited at best. But not impossible and he was hopeful. After she said her farewell, or not, Kotsuzui would turn and hop down the gates before being on his way back into the village.

Stranger In Your Own Home [p] - Page 2 Empty Re: Stranger In Your Own Home [p]

Thu Feb 15, 2018 10:40 pm
Her male companion’s gaze remained fixated far off into the horizon, deep in thought it seemed over what she had proposed within her statements. Once she finished voicing her opinion on the matter, subconsciously looking for solace to ease the turmoil in her mind, Kotsuzui took the opportunity to respond with his own opinion on the matter. Thoughts crowded her head while his voice carried on, her retorts to his statements kept locked away. It would be pointless to mutter them here when they each had their own perspective of the situation and neither would budge from their views. Kots believed the fight was worth it due to the many implications surrounding Kirigakure; the main concern being their giant army. His words held truth behind them in regards to the necessity of an army if Xyxer had only been looking for peace, yet even that could be proven false with a rather simple argument: the army was only there in case they attacked him as it is rather impossible for a single man to take on an entire village of shinobi. No, his army could have been there as a precaution, but they mistook it for an instigation of war.

The last thing he mentioned struck a chord in her, the notion they had risked their lives to protect others. It was comical, truly, to imagine them having protected anyone considering most of the village had been burnt to a crisp during the war. Any shinobi or civilians trapped within the confines of the walls when that occurred would not have survived the vicious flames that preyed on their flesh. Yet again the Hyuuga bit her tongue on to keep from speaking out, the last thing she needed was to break ties with the only ally she had left in the village.

Her attention was brought back from the recesses of herself when he continued, discussing the latter part of her comment about the Will of Fire. The snowy haired kunoichi couldn’t help but agree with Kots on the points he brought up, mentally noting to herself how foolish she had been to believe that the legendary Will of Fire meant the same thing for every Konoha shinobi when in reality it was as he said; it’s an ideal varying between people, and could mean two completely different things depending on who one asks. Her belief was to save as many lives as possible, as the first example of the Hokage referred to. She wondered briefly what Kotsuzui’s idea of the Will of Fire meant, although she could guess it had something to do with protecting the village no matter what it takes or the lives lost. They most likely had completely different meanings for the ideology, and Hikari was beginning to accept that.

Kotsuzui changed the topic after a deafening comment that the Hokage had not ordered the Jounin to kneel but instead chose to fight with them, joining their forces together to oppose the invading army. He mentioned that maybe she had been right, maybe they could have avoided everything had they just kneeled obediently as their Hokage had instructed them to do. However, no matter what might have changed he was firm in his belief that standing with the Jounin had been the right thing to do. Hikari gave a small nod to acknowledge his opinion, deciding it best to leave that part of the conversation untouched in favor of avoiding an argument. Instead they continued talking about different things, their plans for the future, until it got down to who she sought revenge from. Hikari did not hesitate to admit that she knew the consequences to her actions for they would not hold her back from seeking the justice Salzem deserved.

The man beside her offered assistance as best he could, informing her of a skill he knew that would allow her brain to detect when she is placed under a medium level genjutsu, and since she knew the genjutsu release technique, breaking from the genjutsu after becoming aware of it should prove to be a piece of cake for her. Her lilac hued eyes glanced at him when he began to inform her of the ability, and for a moment their eyes met. His bright eyes held no judgement or resent even though she had revealed dark, personal matters to him, and how he was able to be gentle and kind was a mystery.

It would be challenging to teach her brain how to detect whether it is under a genjutsu or not without the aid of being placed in one, but she held a fire of determination in her eyes to overcome the obstacles in her way. Hikari would master the ability as much as she could in order to be fully prepared for whatever the Aburame threw her way. “Thank you so much, Kotsuzui, you do not know how much I appreciate this knowledge.” Her voice was soft, her tone steady, as she turned to face him. He would never be able to fully know how much he meant to the young girl, and she wasn’t sure anything she could ever do would be enough to repay him. She was forever indebted to the Kaguya.

Sadly, as all things do, their time together came to an end. Kots rose from his perch, dusting off his pearly attire, and said his farewell, thanking her for their talk. She straightened her own legs to stand with him, looking up at his towering figure and making eye contact once more as she reciprocated his farewell, “Thank you for keeping company as long as you did, this talk was quite nice…” Her voice lost its strength as she trailed off, momentarily overcome with a wave of guilt. The feelings subsided as he asked her to take care and said he would see her around, to wich she mustered up her voice to wish him the same, “Goodbye, Kotsuzui. You take care as well.” He began to turn away when she continued, calling out loud enough for only him to hear, “Until we meet again!”

She wasn’t sure when they would run into one another again, but she was hopeful it would be soon. He hoped down from the gates, her eyes watched as he disappeared into the crowd until his silhouette could no longer be seen before she leaped down, her mind blank. Hikari was drained from their conversation, the emotional turmoil it sent her through finally taking its toll. She headed off towards the Hyuuga District to rest in the presence of her beloved companion, Kuro.
