Heya, 'tis your uncle Bob de Yousei with the jutsu rules we hoped to have for V7. Same as before, these are a solution we came up with so far, does not mean they will be in V7 in this exact or any form really... Well, go nuts, have fun, leave a comment below, like, subscribe, donate for the children and the retarded folk, enroll in the military, give away a kidney, volunteer for biomass recovery process and most important of all, enjoy. Jutsu Rules



Characters in the ninja world use various different powers. These are registered as jutsu and include ninja techniques of all categories, their fighting styles, any sort of supernatural or irregular power that is not covered by stats or simply a trait that makes the character unique. Jutsu are categorized in two main ways - by its rank and by its type(s).

Obtaining Jutsu

Although characters learn jutsu by training and discovering them, players however do not need to write it all out and it can be done behind the scenes. You, as a player, have your characters learn stuff by participating in roleplay threads with them, such threads can be anything from training and fighting to casual walk through a forest or just social time with friends. At the end of a thread everyone participating in it claims their total word count and can spend it to train any ability available to them for training, or may go for stats instead. Number of words needed to train abilities is described below, together with jutsu ranks.


Jutsu Rank

Jutsu rank describes a combination of its power, difficulty, risk and overall scope. Ranks range from E to S, similarly to character ranks. Jutsu are usually of a single rank, but they can be registered as multi-rank, it can be a collection of ranks or even a range of them. Their ranks play part when determining how difficult it is to train that ability, how many and of what types of jutsu your character can learn.

Default values for each rank:
E rank: 5 power, 5 AP cost, 500 words to train
D rank: 10 power, 10 AP cost, 1000 words to train
C rank: 20 power, 20 AP cost, 2000 words to train
B rank: 30 power, 30 AP cost, 3000 words to train
A rank: 50 power, 40 AP cost, 4000 words to train
S rank: 70 power, 50 AP cost, 5000 words to train

On top of this Jutsu rank also matters when learning jutsu higher ranked than your character as there are certain limits that effort alone cannot overcome. Following are the caps of how many and what rank Jutsu one can learn at certain power ranks:

E rank: Unlimited E and D ranked Jutsu
D rank: Unlimited E, D and C; Up to 10 B ranked Jutsu
C rank: Unlimited B and below; Up to 5 A and 1 S ranked Jutsu
B rank: Unlimited B and below; Up to 10 A and 3 S ranked Jutsu
A rank: Unlimited B and below; Up to 20 A and 5 S ranked Jutsu
S rank: Unlimited A and below; Up to 7 S ranked Jutsu

Jutsu Types

Jutsu type or types helps define what kind of ability it is. When training new jutsu, characters are limited by their current knowledge and skills and must know the types of abilities they are training well enough. This knowledge is expressed by giving each type a rank for which the character knows it. Knowing type for that rank means you can train jutsu with that type of that rank. For techniques of multiple types one needs to know at least half of its types for that rank (rounded up).

Increasing the rank of types that you know:
Everyone knows all types for E rank by default regardless of their character rank simply by having knowledge about that type. Obviously, you cannot learn techniques of a style that you do not know exists. Beyond that, one needs to have practiced enough as well as spent money in order to require books, training materials, or otherwise access to tools to deepen their knowledge. The following describes the requirements to reach a certain rank of knowing a type:

D rank: 500 words, 1000 ryo
C rank: Be at least D power ranked, 1000 words, 3000 ryo
B rank: Know at least 3 C or higher ranked jutsu of this type, 2000 words, 5000 ryo
A rank: Be at least C power ranked, know at least 5 B or higher ranked jutsu of this type, 3000 words, 7000 ryo
S rank: Know at least 5 A or higher ranked jutsu of this type, 5000 words, 10 000 ryo

Note - techniques can be used for training their types if at least one of their types is the same. So a technique of Fire and Ninjutsu types can be used to train either or both types.

Examples:
Tom intends to learn a C ranked technique of Ninjutsu type. To be able to learn it he needs to know Ninjutsu type at C rank, which requires him to be at least D ranked, to do 1000 words of training, spend 1000 ryo and to have trained Ninjutsu to D rank previously.
Bob wants to train Fire Fist technique which is B ranked technique with Fire, Ninjutsu and Taijutsu types. Since it has 3 types, he will need to know at least 2 of them for B rank, it does not matter which ones.


Following are the default types. Most techniques are categorized using these, but there may be unique types not listed here.

Elements:
Each of the five base elemental natures - Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth and Water - are their own type and separate from Ninjutsu techniques, thus can be matched with any.
Advanced elements created through combination of one or more base elemental natures count as a separate type and such techniques do not require to include the component element types. Advanced elements that originate from Bloodline Limit are an exception and do not have their own type, instead falling under Bloodline type.

Bloodline:
Abilities that describe powers stemming from a Bloodline Limit, such as Uchiha clan's Sharingan and Kaguya clan's Shikotsumyaku, must have the Bloodline type. As explained above, Bloodline type includes any chakra releases (elements) originating from a bloodline, be they advanced elements or otherwise.

Ninjutsu:
Ninjutsu is the most widespread and versatile type. Most things requiring advanced chakra shape or nature manipulation and not originating or being achieved through other types are usually ninjutsu. Examples of ninjutsu include fireball, water dragon and shadow clone techniques, while a Fire seal or Water illusion would fall under other types.

Taijutsu:
Taijutsu incorporates any form of physical and martial arts. These range from various hand to hand fighting techniques to weaponry use and extraordinary feats achieved through pure physical prowess rather than use of chakra.

Genjutsu:
Genjutsu are illusionary arts that uses target's senses to disrupt their chakra flow, creating effects ranging from hallucinations and false perceptions to false beliefs and complete mind control. Generally, Genjutsu effects can be dispelled using Genjutsu Release technique.

Medical Ninjutsu:
Medical ninjutsu is a type of techniques that use chakra to manipulate the body in various ways, most usually to heal it of injuries. Users of medical ninjutsu, called med-nin for short, are primarily healers although this type of technique could potentially be used for offense as well.

Fuuinjutsu:
Fuuinjutsu or Sealing Arts deal with using chakra to bind, restrict, contain and control. Their target and method may vary depending on situation and need - Fuuinjutsu techniques range from forming contracts, sealing away fire, binding a foe in place, sealing a chakra entity such as Bijuu into a person or taking control over an opponent's actions.

Spacetime Ninjutsu:
Spacetime techniques or ST for short are a rather rare breed and deal with time and space. More so space, than time. These techniques allow teleportation, shift in position, phasing through objects and similar. Summoning of various items, people or animals to aid in combat is also under this type.

Sensory:
Sensory type deals with techniques that enhance or somehow modify one's perception. They are usually combined with other types. For example, sharingan would be Bloodline Sensory while the Rain Tiger at Will technique would be Water Sensory. Techniques that allow one to sense through chakra fall under this type as well.

Barrier:
Barriers are fields given special characteristics. They are not restricted to defensive or containing barriers, nor are the methods of their creation limited to Fuuinjutsu or Ninjutsu - one could have a sensory barrier, lightning barrier or even medical barrier.

Actually looks alright.

Why was Barrier made into it's own spec though? From the way it's described, in order to have an S-Rank barrier you'd need S-rank reqs for both barrier techs and whatever sort of barrier that you would be making?

If it's Fuuinjutsu, Barrier S rank you need to have either Barrier or Fuuinjutsu of S rank.

It looks good so far the only issue I have to date is the fact that this now requires Ryo just to learn higher ranked jutsu.

One thing I've noticed, and correct me if I'm wrong, but we need at least 5 A ranked of a type to be capable of learning 1 S rank. But certain types don't contain 5 canon A ranked jutsu. 

Based on this Directory (which i dont know if it's updated or not), Fire element only has 4 canon A ranks, and S/T only has two (one of them needing a Snake Contract to be used). Since Barrier seems to be a new type there are probably very few jutsu of those type currently on the site.

The remaining slots needed to obtain an S-ranked can simply be filled with custom techniques which i guess is my question. What will the limit on custom techniques look like since we may need more of them to fill the requirements for certain jutsu ranks?


EDIT: Also, 5 A rank to know 1 S rank. If your ninja rank is A, you can only know max 20 A rank jutsu, which means 4 S rank jutsu of that type. So why put the max at 5 S-rank if we'll never be able to get that last one? Same for B rank ninja?

Another thought too add on to my previous post, instead of making it 5 A for 1 S, maybe we could even it out. For example, have at least 2A, 2B, and 1C of said type to have an S rank of the same type?

Suggestion that would make things more creative and would solve Kots' problem: Get rid of the restrictions on customs. The issue with it going in from V5 was that customs due to effect quality were better than canons, but since everything's being standardized in V7, that should no longer be an issue. As such, the restrictions on customs would no longer be needed.

All in all though, pretty cool. Still don't like the super high WC for jutsu, especially since they require ryo now. Maybe dial that down a bit? Unless, of course, ryo is somehow going to flow like water in V7...
